Overcoming the “Dip.� When I first signed up for classes, I thought I knew what coaching was but I learned it is so much more than consulting and advice giving. With that realization I began to question myself and my confidence dipped. Then I put the skills, tools and structure into place during my coaching calls and my clients experienced incredible breakthrough, and so did I.

July 4, 2017 when on my very first mentor coaching call I realized there were only two students on the line. I remember feeling a bit of panic but, of course, the trainer gently (but unequivocally) twisted my arm to go ahead and try coaching. I wasn’t prepared but didn’t have time to resist either and under her spell, I jumped in. I loved it. I realized that I really could do it. That magical 10-minutes gave me a huge boost and further propelled me toward my coaching career.

I remember one mentor session. I think it was the third or fourth time I was coaching in class. In that session for the first time, I decided to drop all my notes about the process and follow my intuition. I proposed to the client to do a short meditation together because I felt he needed to detach from his thoughts and slow down to find a new perspective. Something I never did before. I was nervous about this last step and unsure of my competency, but the space was safe and supportive, as it had always been during the mentor coaching and training sessions of ICA. I realized during those five weeks just how much I had learned. I felt very grateful to be among the caring and compassionate coaches of the ICA community.

There are so many great memories with ICA, among them the coach supervision and the observed coaching. It’s hard to pick one memorable moment. So much love and support, so many tools, the teachers, the peer students, the self-discovery .... Wow! I am a trained performer (Actress & Stage Coach) and I think the best moment was when a trainer told me that I had Coaching presence but I was TOO present (too performing) :-) I realized that I didn’t need to perform as a great coach in front of my clients; I needed to help them to perform in their own life.

Getting unique personal feedback on my coaching skills during mentor and observed coaching was the best.
