Join us this issue as we journey through a history of the "fish wars", the fight for treaty rights in the Pacific Northwest, and the subsequent landmark decision that redefined Indigenous rights.
We also can't look past the current battles in the region as Tribes face new frontline battles to protect themselves and their Salmon relatives from ever encroaching colonial structures.
On this path we will here from Bridgette McConville (Northern Paiute) about their lifelong relationship with their Salmon relatives and how they use this knowledge to feed the people and maintain tradition as they offer up a recipe from their business Salmon King Fisheries.
Moving forward we will hear from Kunaq (Iñupiak) about her family's Seal hunt and culture camp for the women of her community. In this story we will learn about what it takes, and looks like, to protect culture! We'll even get a glimpse into the process, modern foodways in the community, and the challenges they face to maintain them.
