Spain’s Premier Wedding Fair
O
n April the 22nd and 23rd the Costa del Sol will become the epicentre of the European bridal market. This marks the birth of Expobodas Marbella, which will turn the city into the main wedding tourism destination in Europe. The manager of Expobodas Marbella, Manuel Maya, says that during those two days the show will bring
16 CONFETI
together a selection of the city’s leading companies. Maya points out that, from the outset, the fair has an important international component. However, the attraction of the Marbella brand to foreign markets is such that it has been agreed to include this event in the international circuit of wedding fairs.
The ambitions for the city and its environs are so spectacular that Expobodas Marbella will have its own stand at The National Wedding Show in Birmingham, along with a select group of companies from Marbella and representatives from the Wedding Office at the city’s Delegation of Tourism. There will be a selection of the different attractions that the municipality has to offer, which
should explain why it has become one of the world’s top destinations for wedding tourism. Among the parallel promotions in the planning stages, Maya explained that work is being carried out on a ‘Fam Trip’ with the objective of introducing Marbella to the UK’s leading professionals in the sector, so that they know how excellent a destination it is for

NEC, BIRMINGHAM 3rd-5th March 2017 grooms and brides-to-be. During the course of a weekend they can discover for themselves the possibilities offered by the city’s facilities, gastronomy and services and also establish agreements with local companies to work together. “We understand that Marbella is a powerful business and commercial draw, especially
among the wedding and events sector, so we aim to make Expobodas a landmark event, not only on the Costa del Sol, but also internationally,” says Manuel Maya, adding that in this first edition they will concentrate on “the most prestigious and varied aspects of the sector, meeting the needs of both the international markets and the local public.”
Expobodas Marbella will be ably supported by Icon Publishing, one of the main English-speaking media groups on the Costa del Sol, which publishes CONFETI magazine, a reference publication in the bridal sector. Expobodas Marbella offers a different model for both the visitor and the exhibitor, since it allows
them to be in permanent contact 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition to the opening times of 11:00. to 21:00 hours, the bride and groom will have all the tools necessary to organise their wedding via the portal www.bodaeventos.es and can even construct their wedding website free of charge and manage their wedding list. e are delighted to share some exclusive catwalk images from award winning couture designer, Michael Cinco, whose bridal collections have wowed runway audiences worldwide. This Dubai-based Filipino designer is best known for his fabulous couture gowns and his innate creativity and masterful techniques have catapulted him to the front ranks of fashion. He has cultivated a dedicated following because of the luxuriousness and intricacy of his designs, with their fresh, elegant and detailed juxtapositions of fabric and Swarovski crystals. Michael was born on August the 27th1971 and, from an early age, was enthralled by the glamour of the women in classic Hollywood movies.

My clothes appear seamless. It looks heavy and yet it floats. It looks expensive simply because it is.
“
The impeccable elegance and sophistication of Marlene Dietrich, Grace Kelly, Joan Crawford and Audrey Hepburn created an indelible impression on his imagination. These days his celebrity clients include Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Naomi Campbell to name but a few. Michael recently debuted his Autumn-Winter 2016-2017 Collection at Paris’s Haute Couture Fashion Week and also wowed audiences at Dubai,
Miami, LA, Singapore, Australia and Philippines Fashion Weeks, also putting on shows in New York and London. It’s no wonder that brides are awed by his incredible designs but, of course, these gowns are quite hard to come by (unless you happen to be Beyonce or an A-list celebrity!) Cinco himself has said, “A Michael Cinco woman is moneyed. She may not be born into royalty but she’d better have mar-ried into it. My clothes appear seamless. They look heavy and yet they float. They look expensive simply because they are.” Well, a bride can dream!

RIKI DALAL
Israeli bridal designer, Riki Dalal has cleverly built her empire in a way that allows her brides to feel that they are still enjoying her trademark personal touch, although she is now a global presence. Her beautiful flagship salon in London’s prestigious South Molton Street offers brides-to-be the ultimate in customer service, something upon which this shy grandmother of four places great importance.
22 CONFETI
I knew that being a fashion designer was my calling when‌
There isn’t a specific moment in time when I knew that my passion was fashion design. I learned the secrets of design from my mother, she taught me almost everything I know today. It all started with making trial clothes of my own and my passion and excitement for design and clothing ignited. I always made smaller things here and there, but the first REAL clothing I ever made was my wedding dress for my own wedding.
CONFETI 23
I specialised in bridal gowns because…
As I said, I the first real fashion piece I made was my own wedding dress. It was, of course, exactly what I wanted and dreamed of. I figured that if I had an exact vision for what I wanted I would have to go ahead and make it myself. It was then that I knew designing bridal was something unlike anything else. Creating a piece that you know would be always cherished, unlike any other piece of clothing most women will ever own, was something so heavenly to me. I loved that it was such a pure and angelic experience and from that day forward I knew my passion was bridal wear.
My personal style is...
I have a very comfortable and functional style. I am in my Israel flagship store everyday, where we are open and I am meeting my brides. When I am not with clients I am either designing or sitting at my sewing machine, so comfort is key. I often create many of my own clothes so usually I go for classic neutrals and black and I am always in pants. I almost always dress up my wardrobe with statement jewellery pieces to add a bit of colour or bling.
“
I envision all of my gowns strolling through the valleys, hillsides, cities, and beaches as brides say their “I do”.
“
24 CONFETI
My biggest achievement to date… I am fortunate to say I feel that both the brand and I have achieved so much since our start. The largest one yet, though and the one that had the most impact, was the opening of our second flagship store in the heart of London. Expanding in such an area of fashion influence was an incredible feeling and we can’t wait for many more achievements like this to come.
Trends that I feel will be popular in 2017…
I see many trends making their debut, but I think the bridal jumpsuit is going to make a big splash. My first jumpsuit was created back in my Provence Collection with a detachable skirt and I have added another one to my most recent collection, Mayfair. I love the idea that brides are trying something unique and modern for their wedding style or even adding it to their bridal wardrobe as a second look.
I find the inspiration for my gowns from…
As clichéd as it sounds everywhere. All of the names of my collections are places that I have been inspired by, especially throughout Europe. Their cities, views and landscapes appear in my dreams. I envision all of my gowns strolling through the valleys, hillsides, cities, and beaches as brides say their “I do”. It’s a romantic inspiration fitting for bridal couture. A lot of my inspiration also comes from research about what people actually want to be seen in. What is comfortable and realistic for them to wear to eat, drink, dance, mingle, and party in. I want them to feel sexy and beautiful and look their best, so I keep an eye out for what people look their happiest in.
CONFETI 25
My average working day is…
I would say 75 per cent of the day I am on my feet meeting with my Israeli brides who travel to our original flagship for consultations. We also run a salon within the shop, so brides on their wedding day can come with their wedding parties and families for make-up, hair, pictures, and their first look so I can personally attend to them as the put on their dress for the big day. The other 25 per cent of the time I am in my workshop in a separate area of the flagship designing, sewing, and imagining what’s next for the brand.
At the moment I’m working on…
Currently, I am working on the next collection that will debut in Spring 2017. It will consist of tons of glam, sparkle and, of course, sexiness.

What brides can expect from my gowns‌
Riki Dalal brides can always expect modern pieces with a sexy twist. Daring backs, tight rears, deep necklines, and intricate detail are amongst our signature characteristics. Next season, expect to see tons of embellishment and tight bodices to highlight the fantastic feminine curves of our brides.
CONFETI 27 27 CONFETI
“
My designs stand out from other labels because…
Riki Dalal brides can always expect modern pieces with a sexy twist.
“
Riki Dalal wedding dresses capture the seductive elements of the luxe contemporary woman, personifying edgy and fierce designs. Beautiful one-of-a-kind fabrics add life to the haute couture world and we are sure to incorporate the most on-trend aspects of fashion today with the ability to make every dress in our collection one-of-a-kind.
Destination wedding dresses must be...
If your destination wedding is tropical, it is SO important to be sure that you will be able to be comfortable in your dress – it is really the only way that you will be able truly to exude the happiness you feel on your big day. Light, breathable fabrics are key and using materials that float in a breeze will make all the difference. We love the idea of crop-top wedding gowns that show a bit of skin, using something chiffon based, or even a good cut-out style would work best for our destination brides.

Let’ s Make-up Oscar de la Renta
The Anti-Gloss Is Here To Stay Thanks to the matte-lipped maidens of Instagram, matte lipstick is everywhere and has now made its way into bridal make-up looks. As much as I love a matte lipstick it is the equivalent to a satin dress; slip it on and the good, the bad and the ugly are on display. Matte lipstick is trendy and fun to wear, but it’s not low-maintenance make-up. You can’t just throw it on and go - it takes prep and a lot of patience.
“
“
Matte lipstick is trendy and fun to wear, but it’s not lowmaintenance make-up. You can’t just throw it on and go - it takes prep and a lot of patience.
You need to make sure you exfoliate your lips on the morning of the wedding with a lip scrub such as Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub. I like to combine this with their Fabulips Pout-o-matic LipPerfecting System. Designed with specialist, massaging nubs to softly – but effectively – exfoliate, the device won’t scratch or irritate delicate skin. Next apply a very mosturising lip balm, (Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream can be found in every top make-up artist’s kit for a reason) and let that sink in.
Dab excess balm off with a tissue and follow with MAC Prep + Prime Lip. FINALLY it’s time for your lipstick. I am adoring Charlotte Tilburys new Matte Revolution Pillow Talk, a gorgeous nude-y pink, which mimics and enhances the natural hue of your lips, perfect for your wedding day.
CONFETI 31
“
Highlighter should be used under the arch of the brow, the inner corner of the eye and the top of the cheekbones. It is very popular nowadays to highlight the nose (this can make it appear smaller and straighter) and the cupid’s bow. However, in the hot and humid Spanish summers these areas really should stay matte, so you don’t look sweaty in your wedding photos. I would advise using concealers to highlight these areas rather than an actual highlighting product. Aim for a look similar to that shown at Oscar de la Renta: fresh, dewy skin with the t-zone kept matte – elegant and timeless.
Your arch rival When it comes to your brows, it’s out with the overdone and it is about time. I cannot stand the ‘Scouse brow’, more recently renamed the ‘insta-brow’. Dramatic, ombre, squared-off Instagram arches look dated and severe. Ten years down the line you will look back at your wedding day photos and cringe. Naturally groomed, straight brows make you look younger and are on-trend for 2017. My advice is to reach for a tinted brow gel such as Benefit Gimme Brow, this will hold freshly brushed brows in place and lightly fill them in with Precisely, My Brow Eyebrow Pencil. This ultrafine eyebrow pencil draws incredibly natural-looking, hair-like strokes that last 12 budge-proof hours.
Delphine Manivet’s aesthetic was all about a gamine innocence - and what better way to achieve the look than rosy cheeks.
“
The highlight of your day Strobing isn’t going anywhere. Well, who doesn’t want to look glowing on their wedding day, right? The key is to getting the balance right. There is a fine line between a beautiful highlight and simply looking sweaty.
Softly does it Brides are now leaning away from the heavy smokey eye this season and toning it down a notch. This was perfectly executed at Marchesa; fresh faces were pared with a subtle smokey eye, which gives definition without taking over. The Charlotte Tilbury - The Uptown Girl Luxury Palette makes creating this look a cinch.
A pop of colour For Indian bridal make-up, the traditional black smokey eye is being updated with colour. Jewel tones are particularly popular, rubies, emeralds, violets and sapphire blues. Smokey eyes to glittery eyeliners, coloured kajal to bold mascara, all make your eyes the real showstoppers and especially if they are matched with your bridal outfit. With ceremonies taking two to three hours in the baking sun here, I always use Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Cream on my Indian brides. It is an ultra-pigmented, longlasting waterproof cream. Highly concentrated in mother-of-pearl pigments, it provides an immediate colour intensity with a luminous finish.

Let your lips do the talking Carolina Herrera accented her classic-with-a-twist looks for Spring 2017 with a fresh pink lip.
The best of the rest Let your natural beauty shine through on your wedding day with glowing skin, lightly flushed cheeks and fresh-bitten lips. Models at Watters, Amsale, Christos rocked this pretty, all-natural look.
Marchesa used a hint of shimmer on the eyes, a pop of colour on the cheeks, while rosy-plum lips classic glamour with a modern twist was the name of the beauty game at Alfred Angelo. Make sure your red lipstick has orange undertones and a semi-matte finish.
Delphine Manivet’s aesthetic was all about a gamine innocence - and what better way to achieve the look than rosy cheeks. Matching petal-pink lids, lips and cheeks feel fresh for Spring. Three magic words: Rose gold eyes. You can’t go wrong with this romantic metallic.

Precisely, My Brow Pencil Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil
BENEFIT Nicola - Regular readers will know I have a slight brow obsession and I am always on the lookout for new eyebrow products to try out. Surprisingly it is really hard to find a good brow pencil for blondes as they tend to lean towards orange or are simply too dark for me. I was, of course, super excited to try out Benefit’s latest products to help up my brow game. Their Precisely, My Brow Pencil has the sharpest point I’ve ever come across. It delivers incredibly natural, hair-like strokes and colour that lasts up to 12 hours. Waterproof and smudge-proof, 01 – light was a perfect match for me. Let’s just say my Mac brow pencil in Fling has been banished to the back on my draw and I have filled my kit with the new Benefit pencils instead. Jade - I find it very hard to create the right shape with my brows. I am not sure how to fill them in or define my arches. The Benefit Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil has changed everything. The specially designed applicator’s custom teardrop tip ensures effortless shaping. The wider base fills in the largest areas of the brows, while the triangular pointed tip defines the tail. The formula doesn’t smudge or fade throughout the day, yet is easy to remove with cleanser or make-up remover.
34 CONFETI
Vita-Peptide Eye Gel
ENVIRON Nicola - This could be the holy grail of eye creams, the light gel formula contains a variety of vitamins, antioxidants and peptides to help improve the appearance of fine lines and assist in
moisturising the skin around the eye area. With continued use my fine lines, dark circles and puffiness visibly reduced. Make-up sits beautifully on top of this product and it feels refreshing on the eyes. Thumbs up from me. Grace - Although I’m only in my late twenties I’ve already noticed small lines and I often wake up with puffy eyes.
This eye gel is the best I’ve ever used - a little goes a long way! I also love that it feels light on my eyes and that within minutes I can apply my morning make-up without it leaving unwanted residue on the eyes. The skin around my eyes is looking firmer and younger. I also found that when I awoke in the morning the area was less puffy.

This is hands-down the most comfortable foundation I own. It also doubles as a body foundation, ideal to even out fake tan disasters or to give your legs a little colour. Water Blend Face & Body Foundation
MAKE UP FOR EVER Nicola - MUFE upgraded another
one of its cult products. The Face & Body Foundation is now called the Water Blend Face & Body Foundation. What sets this formula apart from the rest is the unique blend used in its base, which incorporates 80 per cent water alongside a potent amount of vitamin B5. This is hands-down the most comfortable foundation I own. It also doubles as a body foundation, ideal to even out fake tan disasters or to give your legs a little colour. MAC aren’t doing too well with me this year as I have now also swapped all my face and body foundations for these bad boys. Christina -This foundation is great for a #wokeuplikethis look. If you’re the type who prefers fullon coverage, you will need to look elsewhere. This product gives excellent opacity that will provide evenness yet still allow your skin to look ‘real’. It doesn’t separate or crease around my laugh lines and feels like I am not wearing anything. For my wedding I wanted a foundation which was hydrating, sweat-proof make-up and waterproof. MUFE answered all of my needs.
Water Blend Face & Body Foundation
ARTIS
Nicola - For those who want it all (me, of course) then you NEED to get these brushes. Artis brushes are made exclusively with CosmeFibre, a revolutionary, engineered fibre made for applying cosmetic and make-up products. Developed to skim across your face without pulling at your skin, they break down powders and creams into a thinner consistency which results in a more flawless finish. I’ve tested a lot of makeup brushes and have never experienced any as soft as this Oval 8 is is my favourite brush from the entire collection. I use it to apply moisturiser, primer, foundation and even blush. I find the size of this brush extremely versatile. Grace - From the outset I thought
they were spectacularly beautiful - mirrored in chrome they couldn’t be more perfect to use on your wedding day. The Oval 6 I love for applying my cream or powder blush. It gives a really natural finish, rather than the look of powder sitting on top of the skin. Even the Linear 6 (a long, skinny brush for applying eyeliner) is very user-friendly. Because they are not made from animal hair, (wooo!) they won’t shed and they retain their shape better.
Golden Shimmer Face and Body Lotion Lip Fixation
JANE IREDALE Nicola - The Golden Shimmer Face and Body Lotion creates a
subtle veil of shimmer designed to warm and smooth the complexion. Wear it alone or pair it with your favourite make-up. It’s formulated with botanical extracts that work to soften the skin while making it supple and subtly shimmering. A dab on the shoulders, collarbone, cheekbones, and ankles is enough glow to make an impression. Nishma - For those of you
with sensitive skin such as me this range is ideal as perfume, synthetic chemical dyes and preservatives have been eliminated. Each Lip Fixation boasts a lip stain and lip gloss in complementary colours. For my wedding day I lined my lips with their mineral pigment-based lip pencil in Berry which blended beautifully. I then applied the lip stain in Fetish, a cool plum. I kept it matte during the day and added the gloss in the evening. Unlike many lip stains there was no feathering or flaking. This lipstick lasted all day and no touch-ups were needed.

2017 is the year myself and Joshua get married and we are so excited! We are sure time will fly and our big day will be here before we know it! We have now chosen all our suppliers and we are loving seeing everything shape together. We have our amazing florist, Virginia Florista who is based in Marbella. We are thrilled with the design for our flowers, they set the tone so well with our styling for the day and Virginia and her team are just amazing at creating wonderful arrangements and capturing our vision. We are currently arranging a day to go to her store with our wedding planner (Fiesta Sol) to go over everything and get a glimpse of what the flowers will look like on our wedding day! A tip I would give to future brides, is to check if the flowers you like coincide with the season that your wedding will take place in, as some flowers may not be available, however your florist is sure to suggest a similar flower. Our cake is being made by Sweet Things by Fi an amazing cake designer also based here in the Costa Del Sol. The variety of flavours

look incredible and we are discussing some ideas for the design of the cake which is very exciting! We have also chosen Nulki Nulks to create all our stationery, such as wedding invitations and table plan. We can’t wait to see the finished invitation design and we are hoping to have them all sent out 4 months prior to the wedding. On top of all this we still have some details to finalise with regards to decor and transport (the decor being my favourite!) and we have an appointment with Sakata Jewellers in Gibraltar for our wedding bands, where Joshua bought my engagement ring. I have been working on sourcing some great favours that would be ideal for a wedding in the heat and we are also planning some fun activities for the same week that we tie the knot!’ We really want to make the most of having our English friends and family here for the week all together in the sun. I recently bought my bridesmaids dresses for my four beautiful bridesmaids which are in keeping with our wedding colours and I also tried on and bought some
final accessories to complete my bridal look! Joshua is yet arrange his suit and groomsmen suit’s, they seem to be more focused on the Stag Do at the moment! Luckily we still have plenty of time!

Elle and Jack We’re getting married August the 19th. Recently we finally picked our main meals, canapés, evening food and cake. Also we’ve been sorting with our wedding planner the decor, table plans and little extras for the big day, sharing my wedding Pinterest board has been fun and really exciting. Flor Valentin is our floral supplier, I’ve chosen a peony and rose
We have 32 of our closest friends and family coming over to Spain, we sent out invitations a while back now because we are going away for the wedding we wanted to give plenty of notice. The invites were cream and gold and in the style of a passport to keep in theme with having a destination wedding. We still have a couple of things to sort out like Jacks and the groomsmen’s suits and the hen and stag night which we will be sorting soon.

We were young, crazy and care free at 17 years old. We knew of each other through friends and in the few times we would bump into each other I would sometimes get a wink and a smile and he would get a little wave back. We were on a tiny island off the south coast of Cuba and on our last night on the island (we were due to fly to Varadero the next day to continue our holiday), Bhavesh had booked us a table at a restaurant. When we arrived, I was surprised to see that he had arranged for us to dine in a private cabana that was beautifully decorated with candles, flowers and white curtains that were softly blowing in the breeze. During our meal, we were serenaded with beautiful Spanish love songs. At this point he told me that he did this for me

because he loved me and he just wanted to say thank you for being such an amazing girlfriend and so I still had no clue what he was about to do. It was after dinner when Bhavesh suggested that we go for a walk on the beach. As we walked towards the sea, I was holding on to him and walking with precaution as it was dark with only the moonlight to guide us, and the deck that led to the rocks above the shore had large enough gaps for my stilettos to become wedged in! When we arrived at the beach, the moonlight hit the waves that were rolling onto the sand - we just stood there in awe of the scenery. We held each other tight and reminisced about the amazing times we had been through together over all the years we had known each other. He then suddenly said, ‘Can you see that?’ I turned around to see what he was pointing at, and as I looked down, a light shone on to the rocks where there was a sign that read, ‘Marry Me?’. I then turned back around to see that Bhavesh had got down on one knee! He told me that he wanted to spend the rest of his life and more with me

We went back to our table where we finished off our champagne, when Bhavesh told me he had another surprise for me! What could possibly be better than this? I thought he may have booked us in for a spa day or he would take me shopping… No. He had booked us both in for a skydive! Fancy being proposed to and then kicked out of a helicopter at 12000 ft... romantic at first, daringly devilish to end.
ALL I EVER WANTED AND MORE…
The wedding planning begun almost immediately after we had returned back to the UK. I had always dreamt of an outdoors wedding, with beautiful scenery and romance. I already knew that this would be the theme throughout. We decided to marry in Spain as we both travelled there often. Spain has always been a destination close to home and close to my heart... the ambience, the people, the laidback attitude, the weather and climate.... we had to get married in Spain!

morning, the blessing ceremony in the afternoon followed by cocktails and the reception party into the night. All were outdoors, the weather was amazing and all this infused with the surroundings and the ‘buzz’ our guests came with made it truly the best wedding, I myself, had ever been to, and I still can’t believe that it was my own. I knew I wanted a traditional Hindu wedding with a twist of vintage and regal attire. Dianna from Party People and the team at Beau Rivaaaj ensured that the setting was just that and the planning was impeccable. The mandap was decorated with beautiful fabrics and hanging ornaments. It looked exquisite with traditional but subtle colours. The large pillars surrounding the amphitheatre were draped with beautiful images of Lord Ganesh. For the blessing ceremony, Dianna had stripped away the colours and left a beautiful plain white chuppah that was complemented by the surroundings of the Roman Stone amphitheatre. The ivory and soft pink flowers paired with our outfits made a perfect combination against the sunlight and the greenery.

AMODERN Very marriage
Soraya and Nick ‘clicked right’ away and it wasn’t long before they were saying their I dos at the Hacienda San Jose. Romance ready Well, I swiped right and so did he! We met on Tinder. He was from the depths of Kent and I was an East London girl. We were very lucky to be in the same mile radius as we both worked in London, which is what made us pop up on each other’s apps. I suspected the proposal was coming so, during a visit to my parents in Spain, we arranged to see a beautiful wedding venue which I had read about. We met Scott from Sunshine Weddings Spain and he drove us up into the Mijas hills to the venue. The Hacienda took our breath away, we fell in love with it and didn’t want to leave. Nick then pulled me to one side and asked if I want to marry him there.
40 CONFETI
So that was his proposal and we left a few hours later with a booking for the following year. A helping hand My parents were a godsend, but there is only so much running around you could ask of them, so having a wedding planner was essential for us. I could not have done it without Sunshine Weddings; they were on hand 24/7 and they never made me feel daft, no question was too big or too small. They took so much pressure off us and we just can’t thank them enough for all their hard work. The team also helped us arrange a meal for the night before the wedding at a local beach restaurant, which was a great way for the guests to get to know each other before the big day.
The pretty list I chose to shop in a local bridal boutique located in Chingford, which is where I grew up. I always wanted to support local businesses as my parents owned a bridal shop in East London during my youth, so it seemed only right. I wanted my dress to have a Spanish feel, so I tried on a gown from La Sposa and I loved it so much that I had to Skype my parents and show them straight away. They agreed it was perfect for me. It fitted like a glove, so I didn’t need to panic if I lost any weight during the year. My shoes were the Valentino Rock Stud in cream and rusty pink. They are the most beautiful shoes ever! My veil was from the Olympia Wedding Fair, so I got
it for a fraction of the price that I would have paid in any shop. It was cathedral length and covered in crystals and pearls. Nick couldn’t get enough flowers - he just wanted flowers everywhere. We decided to have a big flowered arch for our ceremony, which was moved later to the main garden area where we had a marquee. Laugh out loud We chose the funniest guy in Southern Spain to conduct our ceremony. Padre Peter knew the right things to say and do to make our guests feel welcome and to help us stay relaxed. During our ceremony we included a reading of a poem called “The Best is Yet to Be” by Ashish Gutgutia.

We also partook in the joining of coloured sand, which was deeply meaningful as once the two colours are mixed together you would not be able to separate them. I’m in the mood for dancing Our Spanish guitarist Nano, played music before the ceremony and I walked down the aisle to ‘Close To You’ by The Carpenters. The evening entertainment was the female DJ, Kmiss, who is a great crowd pleaser. We had family who had flown in from Mauritius for the wedding and she included some Indian songs to keep them up dancing. Spanish

law meant we could not play music outside after 11pm, so we moved the DJ into the Hacienda’s nightclub, where the dancing continued into the small hours. A treat to eat Our cake was amazing. It was a five-tier creation with handmade flowers and a large bow made from icing. A few tiers were fake as we wouldn’t have been able to eat so much cake! One layer was chocolate, the other vanilla sponge with strawberry and delicious buttercream. Due to the heat of the day it was not delivered until 7pm and we brought it out for just enough time to cut, then we had to put it straight back into the fridge. Final touches matter For our invitations we bought Mijas postcards to send to our guests and we also had stamps made by the Royal Mail with our photo on them. I didn’t want a traditional guest book as I know it can be hard to write messages after a few drinks, so we had wooden hearts for guests to write on
instead. We will be hanging these on our wall at home as a memento of our day. We gave out sparklers during our first dance. These sported a tag which said our names and ‘Let love sparkle’. Cigars were also handed out to the men during the first dance. I wanted a tequila rose cocktail fountain so we had that pumping throughout the night and our guests loved it. We created our own photo-booth, by hanging a large frame by the dance floor and provided loads of props which we purchased in local Spanish discount stores in Fuengirola. It’s all about you Everything was magical and a fairytale come true, but my favourite moment was seeing people enjoy themselves. Even though it was our day, we wanted our guests to have the time of their lives too. Nick’s speech was also a highlight; there wasn’t a dry eye in the place, it was so heartfelt and touching.
Whether you dream of your wedding on the beach at the sunset, high in the mountains, or overlooking a valley dotted with vineyards, we will help you make your wedding dreams reality. Our team of professionals will handle every detail to ensure your day runs seamlessly and is one to be remembered. -

Wedding in the
Garden of Dreams When Elena and Carlos were planning their wedding they knew that it was all about the location. But where would they find the ideal venue? Fortunately Málaga’s Botanical Gardens turned out to be the perfect beauty spot.
Friends and lovers Carlos and I were friends long before we became a couple. We had virtually the same circle of friends and even worked in the same company but, even so, there had never been any particular connection between us. Over time the feeling grew between us and, when I was transferred to Málaga by my company and Carlos stayed in Madrid, I found that I really missed him. It was probably at this moment that I truly realised what he meant to me. Picturesque proposal Carlos arranged a date where we were to visit a newly opened restaurant to sample the cuisine. He keeps a secret well, because I honestly wasn’t expecting anything special. I didn’t even bother to take my mobile phone to dinner! The place was beautiful and we were seated in a spot with wonderful views and, in the most magical of the evening’s moments Carlos asked me to marry him. I was very surprised and immediately became quite tearful.
The diners around us realised that something special was happening – even the maitre d came up to congratulate us and served us champagne. It was magical, like something from a movie. Planning makes perfect Overall we were very relaxed about the ‘wedmin’ because we knew we had the A-team! Probably the thing that was worrying me most of all was the floral decoration of the church, because initially this looked as though it might be difficult to personalise it with our floral décor. I must admit that we were also a little worried about the weather too, but the fantastic Sira Antequera of Si! Quiero Wedding Planners always managed to reassure us and constantly offered so many tempting
alternatives and other options that any worries were immediately put to rest. Overall we can say that Sira’s main skill was removing stress from the planning of our wedding. Any obstacle that we encountered was quickly overcome and we can recommend her as a wonderful problem solver. When we began to visit places that might be suitable venues for our wedding celebration we went to the Botanical Garden, but we went to on our own. The person responsible for events organisation didn’t seem especially open to our ideas, so at first we discarded it as a possibility. However, when we viewed other places none excited us at all - we found that we had
fallen in love with the Botanical Gardens, so we went back to Sira, who quickly solved all the initial problems so we could hold our wedding there. The big day We held the actual wedding ceremony in the morning in the beautiful church of San Agustín, where the garden was beautifully designed with pink flowers. To accompany the sacrament we had the privilege of having the voices of the magnificent soprano Isabel Rey and mezzo Ana Ibarra accompanied by a string quartet, which created a sublime atmosphere. Afterwards it was time to head to the tropical environment of the Botanical Gardens for the reception and wedding breakfast. We posted our seating plan in a picturesque niche from which hydrangeas, roses and green branches all sprouted. Sira had turned out to be quite an artist and the plan had been beautifully created in watercolours and was adorned with a floral bow and rose petals, which created a wonderful impression. The food and cocktails had been designed to take into account our passion for Spanish cuisine. Foie, Jamon Iberico, Chivo de Canillas were all offered, along with some creative cocktails and a champagne bar with some sophisticated snacks that the guests enjoyed. The look of love We wanted the décor to be natural and integrated with the environment and chose a pink and mauve floral colour scheme. The chairs had an aged appearance that was complemented by the barrels on which the different stations were arranged.

With the soothing sound of running water in the background and under the shelter of trees, the meal took place in front of the facade of the House-Palace. The tables were dressed in white linen tablecloths and decorated with floral centres of geometric glasses containing peonies and hydrangeas in candy-pink and vanilla. The ‘glam’ touch of the cutlery and the golden chairs added warmth to the fresh and sophisticated atmosphere we managed to create with Sira’s help. After the meal we cut the wedding cake, which featured strawberries and raspberries glazed with gold dust and we also had a station with an array of delicious desserts. We chose a variety of French delicacies along with Cakepops, Macaroons, Cupcakes, Fruit Skewers, Mousses and a Croquembouche with Strawberries
and Chocolate to name but a few. We decorated the stations with pink hydrangeas, candelabras, golden boxes and candles. Natural highs When I think of that day I mostly remember the good vibes. Our guests really wanted to enjoy the day with us and that was evident throughout the day. Before the wedding we received many messages from friends in which they transmitted their joy to us and, on the day, they didn’t disappoint! We actually ended up asking the DJ to stay on so that we could all keep dancing. They were truly indefatigable. We also loved the Botanical Gardens because it offered such a unique aesthetic. In fact, many of our relatives and friends later thanked us for holding the reception in such a beautiful setting.

We all loved every minute of our day and are incredibly grateful to her for all her hard work. If you were to do it all again, what would you do differently? Nothing! We would repeat everything and would re-hire the caterers, Goyo, like a shot. What they achieved was incredible; our guests were delighted and so were we. We have relatives who want to renew their vows just so that they can have Goyo to cater! Advice to future brides-to-be. Enjoy your day and don’t worry about anything. The Love Story Continues Barbara and Eddie enjoyed an intimate waterfront ceremony and reception at La Sala Gibraltar.
All aboard We have been together for nearly 30 years and, finally, Eddie decided to make an honest woman of me. As we have both lived in Spain for many years we wanted to get married here rather than the UK. However, as we couldn’t legally get married in Spain we decided to do the next best thing and tie the knot in Gibraltar. After viewing a selection of venues we decided on the Sunborn Gibraltar which is the world’s only five-star super-yacht

hotel. There were a few options on the Sunborn but we felt that La Sala restaurant was perfect for us. Located on the third floor it boasts stunning views of the harbour and we found the star to be super helpful. Dress for drama I found my wedding dress at Pronovias in Málaga. I knew the dress was definitely for me as soon as I tried it on. Sheer illusion tulle was overlaid with Chantilly lace, French lace and
gemstone embroidery appliqués. The lace and extra long train gave it a Spanish feel. The staff in the shop were brilliant, especially Flori who took great care of me. I teamed the dress with classic nude court shoes. I let our bridesmaids choose their own dresses, however our daughter Lily suggested that they be in navy to match the groom and best man’s suits. The girls opted for off the shoulder prom style gowns. They made an excellent choice and all looked
so beautiful. I bought our flower girl Myla (our granddaughter) her dress from Marks & Spencer and she looked adorable in it. Treasure for life The flowers were designed by Zoe Strutton of Flowers Inc and she did an incredible job, they were breathtaking. We decided on a white and green theme, keeping it fresh and minimal. Zoe attached a small photo of my father to my bouquet so I felt he was also walking me down the aisle, as he passed away some years ago. My mum gave me away which was a very special moment for me and extremely emotional for us both. All together now We decided to have the ceremony and the reception at La Sala as the venue contains three different areas, so we didn’t feel the need to say our vows elsewhere. The ceremony chairs were covered with white lace to match my gown and accessorised with fresh flowers. The signing of the registry area was decorated with small glass vases of flowers, fresh petals and candles.
The venue is so beautiful we felt it didn’t need a lot of décor, so we just added a few personal items such as photos of our close family who had passed away or those couldn’t make it to the wedding. Keeping it traditional We chose La Sala’s traditional roast menu for our wedding breakfast. It’s actually my favourite food and it was superb. Our all white three tier cake with shimmering bands topped off with an oversized sugar rose was designed by Omaya at Cake Couture. We wanted to keep it simple and elegant but still have the wow factor which is why we choose to have the middle tier covered in white fondant cascading petal ruffles. It went down a treat with everyone. Just magical The whole day from start to finish was just amazing, from putting on my dress to seeing our beautiful bridesmaids all dressed up. Eddie looked very handsome in his suit along with Liam (our best man). Seeing all our guests as we walked back up the aisle was an incredible feeling. Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing - the day was perfect!

All Along
Emily and Ryan mixed retro and modern at their relaxed beachside wedding. Sealed with a kiss Ryan and I first met when we were quite young. Ryan lived in Bournemouth and I lived in Norfolk but I had family in Bournemouth and used to spend the school holidays with them. When Ryan was 17 and I was 21 we both attended a two-day motocross event. Ryan was racing and I went to see the event with my family. That evening we had our first kiss in the beer tent (I know how glamorous that sounds!) The following day we both became quite shy and said goodbye without exchanging numbers. By the time I had got back to my aunt’s, Ryan had already texted my cousin asking for my number. The rest was history. A little bump in the road I have family on the Coast and have been holidaying there since I was a child. Since Ryan I got together we visit Spain several times a year, so it is a place close to our hearts. We chose El Oceano as our wedding venue because it just felt right and set the date for September 2015. However, things didn’t quite go to plan. Ryan and I already had our little girl Freya, who was conceived through IVF. In February 2015 much to our surprise and delight, we found out that I had fallen pregnant naturally and our baby was due in October. My consultant advised that I wouldn’t be able to fly that close to my due date and this left us no choice other than to postpone the wedding.
50 CONFETI
So we moved our wedding to June 2016 which meant that our beautiful baby boy Franklin could join us and be our little page boy. A silver lining We didn’t need a wedding planner, as Glenn at El Oceano arranged the running of the day and I organised everything else. We used Michelle at Gorgeous Event Decor for the styling on the day and Zoe Strutton for the flowers. The two of them worked wonderfully together and made the day perfect. We went for a white and silver glamorous theme. I found it really hard choosing a colour to suit all my bridesmaids but silver worked perfectly, so that was how the colour scheme was finalised. My dress was designed by Maggie Sottero. It had a form fitting silhouette and embellished corded lace in the bodice which gave way to a skirt of voluminous tulle. Finishing touches included a sweetheart neckline and Swarovski crystals. I decided to wear my hair up, as it was simply too hot to have it down. I wanted something timeless and elegant and my hair stylist, Emma created exactly what I asked for. My make-up artist, Nicola was amazing and through our chats leading up to the trial I felt she totally understood me. Nicola created a natural look, pared with a pinky nude lip. I loved it and didn’t need to change a thing.
The finishing touches Our flowers were by Zoe Strutton of Flowers Inc and they were beautiful. I opted for a bridal cluster of white polar star roses, half bound in lace with a broach. The bridesmaids had a smaller version of the bridal bouquet and the flower girls carried baskets tied with silver ribbon and white rose petals. I walked down the aisle to Cristina Perry’s ‘A Thousand Years’ and was given away by my father. He became quite emotional when he first saw me, which in turn made my hairdresser and make-up artist burst into tears. I seemed to be the only one who remained calm and composed! Ryan and I wrote our own personal vows which was something really special as they included our children, Freya and Franklin. The also joined us in the sand ceremony which was a truly beautiful moment.
Serving up a storm The food was outstanding - El Oceano really pulled out all the stops. Our wedding breakfast began with a tapas style starter of Thai Fish Cakes, Chicken Tikka Skewer and Tempura Prawns. For the main course we had the Beef Wellington with Seasonal Vegetables and Dauphinois Potatoes with a red wine jus. We finished with a mouth watering dessert, a trio of Chocolate and Hazelnut Praline Torte, Summer Berry Meringue and Creme Brûlée. Our wedding cake was created by Deborah Sheridan. Not being able to decide on one flavour we ended up having five tiers - Chocolate Fudge Cake, Madagascan Vanilla, Lemon Drizzle, Carrot Cake and the top tier was dairy free for our children. It was amazing and the lemon drizzle was the best ever. Let’s Dance We had an acoustic guitarist during the cocktail hour by the pool and our guests were entertained by Magic Al, who really knows how to wow a crowd. For the evening entertainment we booked Johnny Baker, who was also our master of ceremonies and the
amazing Javier Magallanes on sax. Together they made the evening a night to remember and everyone loved it. We chose the amazingly talented David Toms for our photography. I met with David in the February before the wedding to discuss ideas and I felt so relaxed and comfortable with him. It was only a few weeks after our wedding that David was in a serious accident. We were so shocked and saddened to hear of this. We just want to let him know that he’s in our thoughts and we both send him lots of love and healing. Our favourite memories… There were so many, it’s hard to choose. The ceremony was incredibly moving. Seeing our children come down the aisle really pulled on our heart strings. I loved the flowers and décor while Ryan, of course, got a little excited about his ride for the day – a Ferrari. The food was superb, even surpassing our tasting session. If I really had to narrow it down to just one thing it would be having our family and friends with us in Spain for our special day.

Brave Heart
Scottish newlyweds Linsey and Craig mixed old with new, by choosing to take their vows in a traditional Andalusian style chapel, while their reception was held at the contemporary beach club, La Cabana. A venue like no other We chose Marbella as our wedding location as Craig’s parents have a house in the area and we spend a lot of time there together. When it came to opting for a wedding location it was either miserable wet Scotland or sunny Marbs, so it wasn’t a hard decision really. We met with our wedding planner Scott from Sunshine Weddings Spain and went on a tour of various venues. The one we chose in the end was La Cabane and it was the very last venue and not originally on our list. We both walked in and looked at each other and instantly knew what the other was thinking. This was it! This is our wedding venue! I had always wanted to get married in a church so we decided to have the actual ceremony at La Virginia, a hidden gem in Marbella. It is a beautiful Spanish pueblo and, right at the back, there is the quaintest church which we fell in love with. You are my sunshine I decided to go with a wedding planner because, as much as
52 CONFETI
I’m familiar with Marbella, I didn’t know where to start when it came to planning a wedding. Scott and the rest of his team at Sunshine Weddings were amazing. Anything I wanted for the wedding they made sure they found for me and any problems, they were right on the case, liaising with all the vendors. On the day Scott was amazing! He took away all the stress for me, making sure everything went to time. ‘I do’ in Choo I wore a Badgley Mischka ballgown wedding dress; anyone who knows me knows the bigger the better! My shoes were Jimmy Choo, which were white court shoes with silver jewels and a tinge of blue through them, so they doubled as my ‘something blue’. They matched the dress perfectly and who doesn’t love a Jimmy Choo? For the bridesmaids I chose a beautiful pink cowl neck dress with silver jewels over the shoulders and a draped back.
Think pink As my bridesmaids were pink I kept that as my theme, along with the silver from my dress. The chair sashes were pink and my centerpieces were a mixture of white and pink flowers including roses, lilies and orchids. I adore flowers, so all our table centerpieces consisted of fresh flowers. They sat in a circular vase on top of a mirror disc surrounded by tea lights. La Cabane, being a beach club, consists of huge cabanas, so I opted for small
vases filled with flowers and tea lights hanging from them. All of our stationery, including invitations, was white and silver. For our table plan I kept the same look as our invitations and the table names were from Game of Thrones as both Craig and I are huge fans. Vows to wow We were married by Lizzie, the most down to earth lady I have ever met. On our first meeting I felt as if I had known her for years.

I wanted to add some Spanish traditions, so Lizzie suggested ‘la arras’, a Spanish tradition which involves the fathers exchanging coins to wish the couple good fortune in their marriage. We put a slight twist on this and used something sentimental from each side of the family; our fathers chose a photo from our graduations. Lizzie also wanted to include the mothers within the ceremony, so she suggested they light the marriage candles which represented them giving light to both our lives. Later in the ceremony Craig and I lit our marriage candle using the light from our mothers’ candles which represented unity among the families. We didn’t have hymns and instead asked Stephen Lloyd Morgan, a Welsh tenor, to sing throughout the ceremony. He sang as I walked down the aisle, at the register signing and then as we walked up the aisle as husband and wife.

We’ve got it covered With all our guests traveling from far and wide we ensured they were never short of food and drink. At La Virginia, there is a tapas bar which supplied cava and various Spanish canapés as there was a delay before leaving for La Cabane. At La Cabane we had more canapés and drinks to allow photos to be taken before the meal. We also had a mojito station where our guests could create their own mojito, which went down a storm. Next was the meal. We chose Melon with Serrano Ham, Craig’s favourite starter. We wanted to keep it light and cool as we knew people wouldn’t want anything too heavy in the heat. For the main course it was Chicken in a Cheese Sauce, with Potato au Gratin and Baby Vegetables, followed by Strawberry Mousse. Our cake was made by Cake Couture Marbella. It comprised four tiers with different flavours: chocolate, lemon and raspberry. I chose a

white cake with flowers cascading down the front to match the blooms used in our centerpieces. A garden party We met in a library in Ireland nearly 15 years ago when we were studying for our exams. When we finally got engaged we decided we would have a destination wedding. We have been holidaying in Spain for years and loved the idea of holding the relaxed wedding abroad. We chose the venue many reasons: it was very special to us all, it was the ideal backdrop for our big day as it’s surrounded by lush gardens and set right on the beach and, at the same time. it was very private.
Polished preparations Sira Antequera, our wedding planner, did an amazing job organising our wedding weekend. We loved every minute of it and it was even more amazing then we ever dreamed it would be. She designed my sister-in-law’s wedding and we loved her style and how she made sure all the family enjoyed the day. So we knew she HAD to plan ours. Every detail, from the flowers to the music, from the food to the ceremony was marvellous. Coming up smelling of roses We wanted an all-white theme, classic and elegant. I was so pleased with the gazebo Sira designed in the garden for the ceremony - everyone is still talking about it. Cascading glass
bowls filled with white roses hung down from the wooden structure while the white curtains billowed beautifully in the breeze. The flowers were simply gorgeous; Virginia Florista used orchids, hydrangeas and roses in a contemporary and stylish way throughout the venue. Keep it classic I chose a dress by Pronovias in a bridal boutique in Ireland. I loved how simple but elegant the dress was. The A-line dress with bateau neckline at the front and plunging round back with a decorative bias band and bow was perfect for me. My sister was my bridesmaid and I let her choose her own dress as I wanted her to comfortable in it. We have the same taste so I knew whatever she chose would be beautiful.
Set the mood Goyo took care of the catering for our wedding and it was amazing. We had a Japanese table, where a selection of Sushi was presented on a variety of different sized mirrored cube stands. Guests enjoyed the fabulous live cooking stations of Lobster, Fillet of Beef and Fish. We ended on a sweet note with a dessert bar of assorted treats, which were balanced on cylinder vases of different heights. These were filled with upside down lilies and roses. The dessert bar was delicious and had something for everyone. The Chocolate Dipped Cake Pops were almost too cute to eat. A night to remember We had a pianist playing during the dinner and then we got the party started with an amazing DJ who kept the dance floor packed all night. We gave him a list of our favourite songs to make sure everyone was kept happy. We had our first dance to Ellie Goulding’s ‘How Long Will I Love You’.

Party on The day after the wedding we opted for a casual pool party where everyone could relax. Guests enjoyed lots of fabulous Goyo food stations and finger food but the highlight were definitely the vintage style ice cream trolleys. It was a wonderful and highly amusing day, I don’t think I stopped laughing once. All smiles Our photographer was Nani de Perez and we were very happy with the results. We loved how she captured the special moments of the day without anyone realising a photo was being taken. Got it covered We loved every minute of the day. Sira took care of everything and I was totally relaxed and happy. My favourite moment was when I arrived at the house and saw everything in place. It was magical! I wouldn’t change a thing. For future couples I would advise them to enjoy every second and relax because, before you know it, the day is over.

The fairytale begins About four years ago I was extremely hungover at work when a colleague invited me out to a club for her friend’s birthday. I initially declined the invite and was overheard by my boss who turned around and said, “Hair of the dog! Go and have some fun and come in late tomorrow. You never know, you may meet the man you’re going to marry.” So I went along and that’s the night I met Will!

Marbella is a very special place that is close to my heart. My late grandfather had bought our holiday home there nearly 15 years ago so it is like a second home to us and I have many happy memories of the place. Will proposed in Spain during the summer of 2015 and we knew we wanted an overseas summer wedding so it seemed fitting to have it in Marbella. The wedding planner I wanted was almost fully
booked but had one date left in the summer which happened to fall exactly one year after Will’s proposal - it was fate. Our secret garden Our venue was a private estate near Sotogrande. From the moment we arrived we knew it was the one. We both had a feeling which can’t be described by looking at a photo or a video. I can only describe it
as ‘magical’ and I don’t think there was one wedding guest that I spoke to afterwards that didn’t say the same thing. The venue choice was key for us, it had to be really special and I also wanted lots of different and unique spaces to use throughout the day and this estate provided us with just that. The best way to describe the venue would be like a secret garden with endless surprises.
Designer details The first dress I tried on was by Mira Zwillinger in Browns Bride and, although I had a totally different style in my mind, I instantly fell in love with it but it was more than we wanted to spend. I tried several afterwards and had found a great alternative but as I went to confirm the order something stopped me and I went back to Browns Bride one last time. When my maid of honour burst into tears after seeing me in it my father said that I just had to have that dress, so he went ahead and ordered it.
dress as I wanted them to feel comfortable in their own individual style although, at the same time, I do think it’s important to link them together in some way and for them to feel like bridesmaids. I managed to find a website in the US where the girls could pick any dress or outfit they liked and customise them so that they would end up blending. Colour-wise I wanted them to be in different shades of blush pink which would work well with the light grey colour that the maids of honour were wearing. I love the combination of grey and pink.

Real Weddings summer suit for Will, which he wore with a blush pink tie and a gold lapel pin and cufflinks which were my wedding present to him. Accessorise all areas I do like typical wedding flowers but since it was a summer wedding in a garden atmosphere, we went for more natural looking flowers with greenery which would complement the venue well. My mum had the idea of using jasmine after seeing pictures from the Carolina Herrera wedding runway. Not only did it look beautiful and suit the venue and our themes perfectly, but the scent was incredible. We even ended up suspending scent boxes from trees as I walked down the aisle to emit a jasmine aroma. Feast your eyes on this We are a very foodie family so food and drink quality were of utmost importance to all of us. Our caterer again really complemented our theme as the food was very ‘Alice in Wonderland’, in other words original and quirky and the presentation was unique and playful. In terms of cuisine we were keen to stick to Spanish dishes with a refined, finedining twist. Our main meal consisted of four courses and included traditional Salmorejo and Slow-Roasted Iberian

Pig Cheek. We also had an extensive dessert bar which not only looked impressive but the caterers created a lot of theatre around it, with dry ice and other quirky presentations. We chose a relaxed, inside-out wedding cake decorated simply with edible gold leaf and jasmine branches and topped with our monogram in rose gold with two goat figurines standing beneath. I think personal touches are important and, as Will’s nickname is ‘The Goat’ all of our friends said that we just had to incorporate goats in the wedding. I wracked my brain, bought a female and male goat and spray painted them rose gold.
After the ceremony people were led through iron gates to the next area, where a rumba and flamenco band were performing Spanish music. After reception drinks were finished, a brass band quickly appeared to lead the crowd to the main area. It was then that the main dinner area was revealed to the accompaniment of gasping from guests, as a huge fountain sprouted in the centre of the main dinner space.
Music to my ears As well as a physical journey, I also wanted to take people on a musical journey throughout the wedding so there was a bit of everything for everyone’s taste. It began from the moment people walked into the welcome drinks area before the ceremony. Guests were given rose-lemonades and rosemary sparkling water in coloured goblets and mini bottles with straws to enjoy while listening to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
Since I come from a Greek family, instead of having a first dance we decided to mix things up a bit and performed a traditional Greek money dance where people pin money on to you as a wedding gift - it was a good laugh, especially for Will’s side of the family who wouldn’t
Our show band then started singing and tempted people onto the dance floor before they had even found their tables. The guests were also up dancing in between every course!
have seen anything like that being done before. Show Stoppers I’d say one of the most special things about the wedding was the element of surprise that we created. As the showband performed their last song, we created a fake power-cut so that guests thought the party had finished - but then, across the huge pond, we beamed a spotlight onto an electric violinist who started to headbang and play a house song. With that, he indicated that we should all follow him and led the guests out of the main area (like the Pied Piper) through a magical pathway lit by dangling chandeliers and a pathway of candles that opened onto a surprise after-party area where a female DJ and drummers were revealed. Their drums glowed different colours and water splashed up every time the drummers hit their drums so it looked as if coloured paint was jumping up from them. This, along with a glowing LED violin and the neon party glow-stick accessories that we gave out, made for a pretty epic visual party experience.
I think one of the thank you letters we received from a guest summed everything up. “If Carlsberg did weddings…even they wouldn’t be as good as yours.” I will never forget…Seeing Will at the altar. At one point Will and I were dancing on stage with the band to a very popular song and as we turned round we noticed practically every guest young and old and young were raving like mad and jumping in sync - it was crazy and we couldn’t believe that this was our wedding. It was also before the main course had even been served! Lastly a really special unplanned moment that we will never forget was when one of the female singers performed Adele’s ‘Hello’ and our wedding guests joined in. We had two very long tables either side of a huge pond in the centre and the guests were standing on their chairs and tables to sing as loudly as they could to the lyrics, “Hello from the other side” to each other over the pond, which was very funny. It was the most amazing moment and although we planned every detail
meticulously it just goes to show that some of the best even we couldn’t have planned!

Something Blue Samantha and Alex enjoyed a picture perfect, intimate wedding by the sea.
The one I had always pictured my wedding with the ocean as the backdrop in a venue which really had the ‘wow’ factor. After viewing numerous venues we still hadn’t found the one and began to worry that we would have to settle for something that was merely ‘nice’ or ‘good enough’. Our final viewing at La Cabane in Hotel Los Monteros had everything we’d dreamed of and more. The pool and fountain setting which overlooked a quiet beach was exactly what what we had had in mind and we instantly fell in love with the venue and knew this was where we wanted to get married. Let’s get organised During our first meeting, Dyana from The Weddings Company explained that we could legally get married in Gibraltar on the same day as having our ceremony in Spain and, although it would take some careful organising to fit everything in, we knew we were in safe hands. Dyana was 100 per cent committed to making our day perfect for us, no request was too much and from day one she was always there for any questions we had and constantly kept in touch, making sure we were updated. I am a very fussy eater and, through her experience and relationships with all of the venues and vendors, Dyana assured us that nothing was impossible and we would be able to achieve everything that we wanted, including a menu that would cater for everyone.

I wanted the bridesmaids to look graceful, so they wore long turquoise gowns with silver heels. Even though the wedding would be abroad we still wanted the classic wedding attire for the groomsmen, which meant suits. They wore grey three-piece suits with turquoise cravats and Alex wore a turquoise waistcoat rather than grey.
I decided on a classic ‘up do’ for my hair to show off my backless dress. The bridesmaids had their hair half up, half down in loose curls as a contrast. For my make-up I didn’t want to stray too far from what I normally wear as I still wanted to look like me - just a more polished version. Colour me happy We went for classic white roses with turquoise and diamante detail. This arrangement was used for all of the bouquets as
well as the buttonholes, table centrepieces and to decorate the ceremony area. Turquoise sashes were placed on all of the chairs used during the ceremony and for dinner. The tables were decorated with turquoise crystals and turquoise diamante napkin holders. As I am a huge fan of Doris Day, each table was named after a Doris Day film. A touch of Hollywood As a wedding in Spain would not have been legally binding,
we married in the morning in Gibraltar and then drove back to Spain for our evening Spanish ceremony. As I am obsessed with Doris Day, so chose to walk down the aisle to ‘More’ and our first dance was to, “The Way I Dreamed It’. During our photos and wedding breakfast a Spanish guitarist played in the background which added a traditional Spanish touch. As it was a small wedding we knew we wouldn’t be having a wild party and to be honest we didn’t want that anyway. We hired a DJ to play music and explained that it would be more as background music than a party. Keeping it personal On our guests’ chairs for the ceremony we placed personalised fans. These were white with “Samantha and Alex, 3rd August 2016, La Cabane, Marbella” written on them in turquoise. For our favours we had Cadbury Dairy Milk bars personalised with our names, date of wedding and a photo of us. We are both chocoholics and Cadbury is our favourite, so thought this would be an appropriate and different surprise for our guests. A piece of cake We chose a three-tier cake with chocolate, vanilla and caramel flavoured sponges. We wanted our cake to be classical and match the theme of our wedding so we asked the cake designer for white icing with a turquoise ribbon and a silver glitter cake topper with our names. A night to remember My favourite moment was walking down the aisle. I felt so beautiful and, as soon as I saw Alex, it took my breath away. Obviously as the bride you have the perfect image in your head and you can only hope that it lives up to that and it definitely did. The whole wedding day was amazing and exceeded our expectations, it was without doubt the best day of our lives. We could not stop smiling! The only negative thing was that it went too fast and we wish we could do it all over again. CONFETI 63

“I Do”
Sarah and Paul enjoyed a romantic and relaxed vibe on their wedding day. They took their vows surrounded by white sand and the crystal clear sea at Del Mar, Hotel Puento Romano.
A lasting impression Paul proposed to me while on holiday in Marbella so the area is very special to us and it’s also where we had our first holiday together. After visiting so many venues in the UK nothing compared to what we could have in Spain. We’ve spent a lot of time at Hotel Puente Romano and eaten in their restaurants many times, as the food is always fantastic. Since the hotel has given us so many fond memories already we thought it would make the ideal place to say “I do”. Another key factor that swayed
64 CONFETI
us to choose Del Mar was that we could be married on the beach. After choosing the venue we met Tara our wedding planner who put us at ease. We knew that planning a wedding from a distance would be difficult and Tara helped us every step of the way. We trusted everything she suggested and it all turned out to be amazing. Grand designs There was no specific theme or colour but the idea was for the wedding to be natural and the colours to flow. I chose a Spanish
designer (Raimon Bundo) for my dress, which was a simple and elegant design and I finished the look off with white Valentino Rockstud shoes. The bridesmaids wore rose gold sequinned dresses from Sorella Vita and neutral Valentino Rockstud shoes and we were blow away by how amazing they looked. The men wore blue Hugo Boss suits and tan shoes and belts by Jeffrey West. We gave the bridesmaids and groomsmen personalized Ray Ban sunglasses as a thank you for helping us with our special day.
Understated elegance We wanted to keep the flowers and décor simple, as Del Mar in the sunshine is already beautiful. We chose white flowers with a little foliage and the florist created a fantastic arch for the bottom of the aisle which complimented the setting perfectly. We are blessed Tara recommended Padre Peter for the ceremony and we couldn’t recommend him highly enough. All of our guests commented on how he made the ceremony light-hearted, fun and romantic which was exactly what we wanted.
Let’s dance We had the speeches after the meal and then went straight into the night time celebrations. Our first dance was to ‘Nobody Does It Better’ by Carly Simon. Choosing a first dance song proved to be very difficult; we wanted something that was a little bit more upbeat but also really meant something to us so this song was ideal. We also had Quike and Roberto playing the sax and violin at the end of the song which was a very special moment. We followed our first dance with ‘Happy Birthday’ by Stevie Wonder as we got married on Sarah’s dad’s birthday and having all our guests sing along was a great way to start the party. Being shady We had sunglasses made with the date, venue and our names on as favours for all of our guests and this turned out to be a great idea, as everyone wore them for the barbecue the next day and they are something that our guests can keep forever. Picture-esque Nani and Antonio De Perez did the photography and videography. The photos are unbelievable there wasn’t a bad shot and we have more than 2000! Nani also took photos of our rehearsal
dinner the night before the wedding and our post wedding barbecue the day after the wedding. Where memories are made There were so many amazing moments! Walking down the aisle and seeing each other for the first time on our wedding day. Having all of our friends and family dancing to our favourite songs whilst Roberto and Quike were playing was also a real highlight. By this point everyone was sweaty, tipsy and seemed to be having as much fun as we were. We had fireworks just before twelve o’clock and standing watching those knowing that we’d had the most amazing day was very emotional. Advice for future couples getting married Planning a wedding can become quite stressful at times but try to remember what is important and help each other along the way. All of the little things that you worry might happen on the day become irrelevant as you realise that everyone is there to celebrate with you. No-one will notice if the smallest thing goes wrong and, luckily for us, nothing did. Everyone always tells you that your wedding day goes by quickly, which is very true, so turn your wedding into a week long party like we did!

Have Become
La Casa Rosada was the perfect romantic spot for Sarah and Warren’s big day.
Falling in love Spain has always held a special place in our hearts. Warren’s auntie and uncle live in Sotogrande and we both fell in love with the area from the first visit, hoping one day to call it home. Our first holiday together, and many since, was in Casares and it was where we first said ‘I love you’ to each other. A romantic retreat In a break with tradition Warren wanted a big white wedding, whereas I wanted to get married, just the two of us, somewhere by the sea, so we agreed on a small Spanish villa wedding which was a great compromise. We wanted to find a venue where we could host the entire event. We liked the idea of having our close friends and family staying with us at the location and it also meant we could make a small get away from the occasion and hopefully alleviate any nervousness in advance. We came across La Casa Rosada and we knew it was ‘the one’. It had every element we wanted and more, from gorgeous accommodation spaced over three bungalows, a superior master suite with its own personal living room, a homely feel, multiple bars in the grounds, fantastic landscape, infinity pool, a hot tub (which was perfect for the cooler October evenings) and outstanding views of the ocean. Pure luxury! Flawlessly delivered Our wedding planner was Dyana from The Weddings Company. Dyana and her colleague Sara were absolutely fantastic from start to finish. They were extremely patient
with us and made us feel at ease from our first meeting. When it came to the big day it all went very smoothly. The catering was superb, the flowers were amazing, the guitarist and celebrant were brilliant and we could not have been happier. Heels off My vision was always relaxed and casual. I decided to not to go for a traditional wedding dress and instead chose an ‘occasion’ dress, with incredible embellishments and a stunning back detail. I wore head jewellery to try to capture a boho-ish vibe. The bridal party all wore complementary long white dresses. I wanted a barefoot wedding and chose crystal foot jewelry for myself and the bridal party. Warren wore light blue chinos with a smart white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, a waistcoat and some blue suede Louboutin’s. Everything’s all white The venue was so stunning we wanted to keep décor simple and natural. We had a white colour scheme, the bridal party wore white dresses, white lanterns were used for lining the aisle which were then placed within the table décor, along with a garland of real lemons and limes set in greenery. Festoon lights were hung between palm trees above the tables and uplighters installed at the base of the palm trees, which created a beautiful, romantic feeling in the garden once the sun set. Make an entrance The ceremony started with laughter; Sarah’s sister and bridesmaid Summer fell over on her way to the aisle, in full view of all the guests! Luckily she only came away with a bruised ego. We had written our own vows and our celebrant Kurt made everything fun and enjoyable, inviting guests to stand up and dance to the entrance music. I walked up the aisle to ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ (played on a ukulele) and Warren had taken my favorite song ‘How Long Will I Love You’ and altered the wording slightly to turn it into a piece which his brother Ben read during the ceremony.

Address Book Once we had spoken our vows it was time to present the rings. We had an idea to have the rings within a champagne glass and we would drink the champagne before giving each other the ring. It was perfect and something totally different that Kurt had never seen before and he told us it was great. We walked back up the aisle to Gipsy Kings’ ‘Bamboléo’ which was played on a traditional Spanish guitar and put everyone in a party mood. Fabulous eats Our caterers were Goyo. The canapés during the cocktail hour were superb and, as amateur foodies, we really wanted the food to be a focal point of the day. We decided to have Tapas with Salad and a show Paella to make it traditionally Spanish. The pictures of the food really don’t do it justice. Warren’s favorite drink is a mojito so we had a mojito cocktail bar on offer. The difference is in the details The bridesmaids received a personalised beach bag each with a MAC lip gloss and a Turkish beach towel. The groomsmen were given a personalised photo album
filled with photos of Warren’s memories with them. The pocket squares and ties with tie pin and a bottle of their favourite alcohol also went down well. While getting ready, Warren had his groomsmen present Sarah with a set of diamond earrings and a sapphire and diamond pendant designed by Warren. Guests were given sparklers which were then used later in the night for photos. The highlights We had the most fantastic venue and were blessed with wonderful weather - gorgeous hot sun during the day without a cloud in the sky and the most fantastic moon in the evening. Even the caterers were impressed with how lucky we had been and it made for some amazing photo opportunities.

It was a small wedding but was perfect in every way. The men enjoyed a relaxed morning swimming and chatting by the pool while the girls were getting their hair and make-up done. The food was superb and the ceremony was brilliant thanks to the guitarist, celebrant and our amazing guests. The mojito bar deserves a special mention, as they were the best!

Getaway WITH ME
Anabella Giles has fallen in love with the city of Seville and explains what makes it the perfect minimoon destination.
WHAT TO DO
Seville is steeped in history. The marriage of multiple religions is evident throughout the area: the Moorish heritage, the cathedral and the Alcazar to name but three, there is so much to see and do. Our first stop was the cathedral of course. One of the largest and most impressive churches in the world, it was built in the 15th century at the site of a 12th century mosque. Today, the only part of this structure which remains is the minaret, also known as the Giralda, due to the weather vane added to the top in the 16th century. Several stages of building can be seen, with examples of the Mudéjar, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical styles. 68 CONFETI
Next we visited Plaza de España Square, which is a majestic architectural complex built as the central office for the Ibero-American Exposition, a world fair held in Seville in 1929. Painted ceramic benches representing all the provinces in Spain are arranged round the square. We thoroughly enjoyed the Museum of Flamenco and highly recommend staying for the hour-long flamenco show.
WHERE TO EAT Located in the magnificent colonnaded Andalusian-style courtyard of the five-star Hotel Alfonso XIII, Restaurante San Fernando provides a unique culinary experience in the heart of Seville. San Fernando is a tribute to the city’s patron saint, Saint Ferdinand, formally King
Ferdinand III of Castile. Lunch and dinner are both elegant affairs with a full à la carte menu featuring modern interpretations of Spanish classics, married with an extensive wine list. You must try the Iberian Pork Cheek in Oloroso with Ajo Colorado and finish off with the fine Apple Tart.
We were greeted warmly on arrival and given a lot of personal attention. Our room was spacious and well equipped, while the bed felt as though I was sleeping on a cloud. Both of us enjoyed a wonderful night’s sleep, even with the other half snoring for most of it. The breakfast was excellent, a high quality selection of fresh juice, warm bread and delicious pastries plus fruit, which we tucked straight into.
We also loved the rooftop terrace with plunge pool where one can relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the spectacular views. You can get to the hotel by car but I wouldn’t recommend it. On the advice of the hotel we took a taxi and I honestly do not know how they manage to get their cars through the incredibly narrow streets. I would have given up after about five minutes and left my car in the middle of it all. The hotel is definitely worthy of all of its accolades, especially the charming staff who make each guest feel special.
www.corraldelrey.com
WHERE TO STAY Corral del Rey is tucked away in one of the narrow streets of the old quarter of Barrio Alfalfa, a five minute walk from the Cathedral. The original 17th Century Casa Palacio has been meticulously restored and converted into a small private luxury boutique hotel, offering chic accommodation with a vibrant bar. The hotel, spread over three old buildings, is beautifully maintained. The architectural highlights are the atrium patio, Roman marble columns and the original wooden carved beams. Lots of glass used throughout the hotel brings it alive with light. The luxurious marble and limestone bathrooms with walk-in rain showers were out of this world.

CATERING FOR YOUR EVERY NEED
Photos cortesy from Radka Horvath and Anna Gazda
Tell us Sana Catering’s beginnings and its development over the years. I had been in the restaurant and catering industry for 15 years, managing and consulting for a number of successful restaurants on the Costa del Sol. I found that I had gained a wealth of industry experience, plus an impressive database of local contacts. I had been approached on many occasions to cater for external events, so entering into the specialised world of event catering was a natural progression and Sana Catering Marbella was born in 2004. The company continues to go from strength to strength, with wedding catering being a core focus and genuine passion for all our team. I believe the outstanding quality of the food is most certainly the primary reason people come to us, but for sure it is also for the level of professionalism that is brought to every event, from the most intimate to the most lavish and traditional of weddings. We work with many wedding planners on the coast and we 72 CONFETI
have been lucky enough to work on many weddings with Rachel Rose Weddings over the past five years also. Rachel and her team’s unparalleled professionalism when it comes to wedding organisation is a perfect match for our work ethic in catering! We believe the food and drink at a wedding should be uplifting, inspirational and individual to each couple. Our main man, Chef David Farber, who was Executive Chef at Nikki Beach for eight years is forever telling us how much love goes into the whole process; from sourcing the perfect locally sourced ingredients to plate presentation and establishing that all important relationship between the eye and the palate.
Are there trends in wedding breakfast menus? What is the current fashion and what do you predict as a future trend? There absolutely are trends and we love being creative with them! Mini bites for everything food & dessert related have been on the rise as of late.
“
Food and drink stations are a guaranteed crowdpleaser for wedding guests whilst still offering a fine dining experience.
“
Sana Catering is a leading wedding caterer in southern Spain and its reputation for providing top quality menus that not only tantalise the taste buds but also provide a visual feast has built their reputation. CONFETI magazine took the opportunity to talk to its founder Antonia Foran about the company’s history, its approach to providing couples with exactly the menu they want and some of the most spectacular occasions they have catered, including some humorous requests.
Also family style, self-serve and relaxed meals are another preference at the moment. There are endless opportunities if you go for a food station during the cocktail hour, wedding breakfast, or even for late night snacks. A food station can complement the theme of the wedding: this year we are doing a taco bar, a crostini bar, with all the fillings, and a ‘potato station’. Food and drink stations are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for wedding guests whilst still offering a fine dining experience. I also see a massive leaning towards healthier food. Vegetarian food at weddings used to be an afterthought and even a bit of a joke: a nut roast, a stuffed mushroom, a bit of old tofu prepared at the last minute was just about all most veggies could expect. However, the rise of chefs like Yotam Ottolenghi with his imaginative and inspiring approach, love of strong flavours and equally strong colours, has meant that vegetarian food is starting to take off big-style, and Sana Catering could not be happier about that! Last year we catered for quite a few all gluten free weddings and even a 100% vegan wedding something that the couple chose not to tell the guests before the wedding! I think that day we opened the eyes of even the most dedicated carnivore guests!
How does Sana cater for guests with food allergies? What do you suggest to the bride and groom in terms of forward planning for this? We are more than used to allergies and intolerances and often receive pages upon pages of guests’ allergies just for one wedding. We treat these seriously and advise the couple to ask their guests in their invitations to RSVP detailing any dietary requirements.
What is your most requested style of wedding menu? More couples are requesting that their reception meals be served family style to take the stuffiness out of a sit-down meal. Guests can interact casually as they pass around gorgeous dishes, which means more mingling and
a better chance that everyone will have an unforgettable day /night. One thing to consider if opting for a family-style meal is to rethink massive centrepieces. More room is needed for all of those serving dishes and to let the colours of the delicious Mediterranean food and beautiful plates star as the décor.
Do you change your wedding menus according to the season? What key differences are there, if any, between winter and summer wedding menus? In winter comfort foods reign supreme. Once summer is over, the entire wedding menu planning
process changes immediately. Heavier spices make an appearance and carbohydrates take centre stage. We have menus with inventive ideas for variations on age-old favourites such as pies, warming stews and roasts. Tasty cheeses, glazed ham, and vegetable soups are also at home on a winter catering menu. Whether served sliced on a platter or combined into a full starter, ham and cheese complement one another very well and can be combined in an endless number of pairing options for keeping that Mediterranean feel. We also see heavier, deeper colours in both the food and table décor.
What is the most bizarre catering request you’ve had for a wedding? We once had a request for all blue food from an avid Manchester City fan. Thank goodness this notion was immediately quashed by the bride! Thank you Antonia for such an interesting insight into the work of Sana Catering and its peerless wedding feasts.

MUSIC FOR THE
IRIE J. Personable, friendly, relaxed and easy to get along with is one way to describe Irie J, the UK-based singer who is poised to perform at many weddings on the Costa del Sol in the coming years.
H
e may be a ‘new kid on the block’ in terms of Spain, but Irie J has a long history as a professional singer, and he understands exactly what it takes to perform at your wedding and make it a day to remember. There is nothing quite like having a live singer at your wedding; it’s almost the same as having a concert performed for you, your family and friends. It is even better when the performer has a big, warm personality as well as a silky, soulful baritone singing voice, because you just know that every guest will love him, regardless of age. And all these things are true of Irie J.
78 CONFETI
Irie J is very proud of his West Indian roots and his early career with Jah Warriors, a band that supported amongst others Curtis Mayfield, Aswad and Barrington Levy on tours all over Europe. When the group disbanded, Irie J started working as a solo artist and that’s when he discovered soul music, especially that of the great Luther Vandross. From this point on, he combined soul and reggae in his performance, although as he points out he loves all kinds of music from Country to Classical. His main influences are Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley and Will Downing, as well as Luther Vandross of course. You’d expect class from an artist who has worked with Alexander O’Neal, Rose Royce, Gregory Isaacs and Imagination and that is what Irie J promises you at your wedding. He has worked hard to perfect his wedding act and fully grasps what it means to give the bridal couple everything that they want, including the most current songs. Irie J’s wedding demo CD, which is available to couples considering hiring him for their wedding in Spain, contains Al Green’s wonderful “Let’s Stay Together,” Luther Vandross’s “Always and Forever,” and a soul-inspired rendition of Bob Marley’s “Is this Love” that the reggae superstar would approve of. These showcase Irie’s core musical talents and although Irie J’s repertoire is primarily based on the soulful sounds of America of the late twentieth century, he has the talent, the flexibility and professionalism to learn numbers from beyond that music catalogue. Irie emphasises that choosing the right music really is a crucial part of planning your wedding. No couple wants their guests covering their ears in horror at the music. He’s aware that the wrong tunes can leave the dance floor empty and hearing bad music on arrival at the reception can set the wrong tone for the rest of the day. So it is an important decision and one that Irie J is happy to work with couples on to make sure they get it right for them and for their families and guests. When you hire Irie J for your wedding, he’ll chat to you about the ages of the most
h a w t s f i c i su nd l eelings M sou ike Here are Irie J’s three key tips for choosing a wedding singer, and each tip is one that he works hard at fulfilling:
Professionalism. Look for someone who will treat your day as the special moment that it is. This isn’t just a business contract; it is a day filled with love. Choose someone who will treat your wishes with respect. Also look for a singer who communicates well, responds to emails within a reasonable time and is up front about costs and availability. Flexibility. A wedding singer should adapt to suit you. They should easily get a feel for the songs you like and the style of wedding you’re planning. A professional singer will learn your favourite song and they will get your guests dancing. They should also be able to create a heartfelt moment as you walk down the aisle or sign the register. Connection. Pick a singer who is connected to their music, and also connects with you as a couple. A true performer should love what they do, and you should be able to tell that they are passionate about their job.
significant guests, for example grandparents and parents, and find out what their musical preferences are. Would they like some Sinatra, a dash of Tony Bennett or is there someone who is a big Barry White fan? He can accommodate requests for hits by these artists and will make sure that he finds your special guests at the reception and serenades them, adding an important touch of heart and warmth to the occasion. Every bride and groom knows that the song for their first
dance is an important one and once you’ve made your choice, Irie will give it his all so that it becomes your song forever. He will also help you decide when he should perform at the reception, and can also sing the bride down the aisle if that’s what you’d like. He is used to working with DJs and can fine tune the bridal couple’s selection of music to complement the DJs playlist, ensuring that there is musical harmony throughout the entire reception.

usic plays an important role in setting the tone for your wedding. Selecting the music can be just as difficult and confusing as finding the stationery. With so
many different options and songs to choose from, where do you begin? Well, it can also be one of the most fun things to plan for a couple, especially if you love to listen to music together. It’s important that you find a good
The Ceremony
especially if you are getting married in a church where there are bound to be great acoustics. You can find many great recordings of music if you don’t want to opt for live instruments. Of course, walking down the aisle is a key moment and your music needs to compliment not only the moment itself, but you as a bride. A lot of brides are shunning the typical classical parade and choosing a track that is special to them, giving them the confidence to shake off any wedding jitters.
For the music during the ceremony you’ll need to make at least two choices – namely, your processional and recessional songs. During the ceremony itself, the majority of the music will be background music. It’s important that your music doesn’t take over or distract anyone from your important vows. Choose something soft and romantic that will really set the scene. Classical music such as violins, a sting quartet or harps are ideal,
balance for the different stages of the day as well as remembering, that it’s YOUR day! So, if you’re a couple that loves rock and jazz, or classical and country, make sure you incorporate it. Luckily, CONFETI has done the hard
work for you. We’ve broken down the typical wedding day and combined it with what music sets the tone. These tips will be sure to have you and your guests either shedding a tear, or tearing up the dance floor!
The Reception and Dinner Spirits will be high as your guests begin to let their hair down and congratulate the newlyweds. Something upbeat and light-hearted is perfect to set the scene at your cocktail reception. You can spend some quality time with your partner, creating a playlist of songs that you enjoy. If you want live music a quartet is great but, when in Spain, why not get in touch with some of the Spanish traditions? Hiring an acoustic Spanish guitar and even some flamenco dancers is a great way to impress your guests and get everyone in the mood to fiesta! The Spanish guitar is also a beautiful background sound during dinner. Many couples opt for a singer, singing jazz or Michael Buble style songs while tucking into the wedding breakfast. Confeti’s Top Five acoustic guitar songs are:

The Most Memorable Weddings of all Time
Like most things in life, weddings and brides have evolved over time. A new era has begun and 2017 is set to be full of new trends and fashion for couples that aren’t afraid to push the boundaries! We are all a little guilty of swooning over elaborate celebrity weddings. What with the designer wedding dresses, secret locations and extensive guest lists, celebrities certainly know how to do it with a bang. Even though some are quite bizarre (and the resultant marriages shortlived) fans have been following celebrity weddings for decades. From royal weddings to Hollywood stars, CONFETI has gone back in time to bring you our Top Ten most talked about weddings of all time and, of course, the beautiful brides!
2
Grace Kelly & Prince Rainier
George Clooney & Amal Alamuddin
Sixty years ago one of the most talked about fairytale weddings of all time took place as Hollywood sweetheart Grace Kelly married Monaco’s Prince Rainier III in a lavish, two-week event that attracted guests from all over the world. The couple had two ceremonies, one in the palace’s throne room and one in Saint Nicolas Cathedral. The cathedral wedding was watched by an estimated 30 million people worldwide, more than 600 guests attended and it was often referred to as the wedding of the century. Grace Kelly looked every inch the star, with her one-of-a-kind white wedding dress, donated by film studio MGM. It took 36 seamstresses three weeks to make. The couple went on to have three children and, after Kelly’s death in a car accident in 1982, Rainier never remarried and was buried next to his beloved Princess Grace.
On September the 27th 2014 in Italy, Hollywood heart throb George Clooney tied the knot with Lebanese-British lawyer, activist and writer Amal Alamuddin in a threeday event. They exchanged traditional vows in front of around 100 guests, some of whom were Hollywood’s hottest celebs: Cindy Crawford, Matt Damon and Bono all attended. Clooney wore a classic black tuxedo created by Giorgio Armani, but nothing could upstage the bride, who looked stunning in an Oscar de la Renta French lace wedding gown. In fact her whole wardrobe for the wedding events was incredibly chic and stylish. The actor calls Venice “the most romantic city in the world” and, after meeting in Italy, they knew that was where they wanted to get married.

Kim Kardashian & Kanye West The Kardashians do not do things by halves, so we were expecting big things after Kanye’s elaborate proposal to Kim Kardashian, complete with a 15-carat diamond ring and, boy, we weren’t disappointed! Rumoured to be one of the most elaborate celebrity weddings all time, Kimye held a lavish, three-day celebration, kicking off with brunch in France at designer Valentino’s 17th century chateau. A rehearsal dinner and private tour of Chateau Versailles followed, before private jets whisked the wedding party off to Florence, where the actual wedding ceremony took place in Forte de Belvedere. If performances from Lana del Rey, John Legend and Andrea Bocelli weren’t enough, guests were treated to food by a Michelin-starred chef and a rumoured seven-tier wedding cake. Place cards? Not for Kimye; their guests’ names were engraved into the marble tables instead. Not ideal
if you have last minute no shows, like Kim’s brother, Rob who decided, at the last minute, not to attend. Kim and Kanye both wore custom made Givenchy and released jaw dropping photographs with decadent flower wall backgrounds. We feel quite worn out just thinking about it! This was a wedding that won’t be forgotten for a long time, so let’s hope it lasts longer than Kim’s previous marriage.
4
Prince William & Kate Middleton
The most anticipated royal wedding of the decade, without a doubt was Prince William’s marriage to Catherine Middleton on the 29th of April 2011. With millions of viewers watching the event at Westminster Abbey from all over the globe, the royals did not disappoint. The world watched as the bride-to-be stepped out of her classic wedding car, revealing her breathtaking Alexander McQueen gown to the waiting crowds. With delicate vintage-inspired lace sleeves, Kate Middleton’s incredible gown was the perfect choice for a royal bride and inspired thousands of replica versions. Alongside her, maid of honour and sister Pippa Middleton wowed in an equally chic Alexander McQueen gown which gained her a lot of attention for her behind. Prince William looked every inch the dashing Prince Charming too. A rumoured 300 guests attended, including other members of the royal family, close friends and celebrity guests such as the Beckhams. Afterwards British singer Ellie Goulding performed for the couple in what we are sure was an astonishing wedding party in none other than Buckingham Palace.
5
David & Victoria Beckham On July the 4th 1999, one of the UK’s biggest celebrity couples, otherwise known as Posh and Becks, made the ultimate commitment by becoming husband and wife in the spectacular venue of Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland. At this lavish event the bride and groom sat on thrones, with fash-ionista Victoria even wearing a tiny crown. What more would you expect from a WAG and Spice Girl? The comparatively modest guest list included fellow footballers and other members of the Spice Girls clan, along with members of the Beckham and Adams families. Victoria chose designer Vera Wang to create her champagne wedding dress and David, along with son Brooklyn, looked dashing in crisp white. Their marriage has been rocked by rumours of David having an affair, but almost 18 years later and with four children, the Beckhams are still going strong.

Kate Moss & Jamie Hince
Audrey Hepburn & Mel Ferrer
It was a moment the fashion world had been anticipating; the day world famous supermodel Kate Moss walked down the aisle to marry Jamie Hince in the picturesque Cotswolds. Kate wore a vin-tage inspired gown made by her close friend John Galliano and had a second dress for her first dance designed by Stella McCartney. The photographer was none other than world renowned pho-tographer and friend of Kate’s, Mario Testino. The Kills rocker Jamie looked the part, sporting a powder blue suit paired with shades. With a staggering 16 bridesmaids, including her daughter Lila Grace, the whole wedding was a whimsical, floral affair that boho brides can only dream of. The couple sadly separated after four years of marriage and are supposedly now divorced - sigh!
Quoted as saying, “When I get married, I want to be really married” Audrey Hepburn married fellow Hollywood actor Mel Ferrer during a relationship that was only eight months old at the time. It was a fairly secret affair for such a high profile couple. They wed on September the 25th 1954 in Bur-genstock, Switzerland. The ceremony was held at a local 13th century Protestant church at the base of a mountain. Looking every inch the Breakfast at Tiffany’s star we remember today, Hepburn wore a white A-line wedding dress with chiffon sleeves by Pierre Balmain. She accessorised beautifully with a crown of flowers in her hair, which still inspires many brides and white opera gloves. Unfortunately it wasn’t a case of ‘happily ever after’ for this couple, as they divorced 14 years later.

The wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Lady Diana Spencer took place on Wednesday the 29th of July 1981 at St Paul’s Cathedral, London, United Kingdom. They had a traditional Church of England ceremony and many notable figures attended, including members of royal families from across the world.
One of Elizabeth Taylor’s first major adult movie roles was as the titular bride in Father of the Bride, a part that she must have relished, since she would infamously walk down the aisle eight times over 40 years. One of the most talked about was her marriage to Richard Burton. Their turbulent love story could itself have been made into a Hollywood movie; the couple was to marry and divorce twice. The first time they wed was in Montreal in 1964. The costume designer Irene Sharaff, from legendary film Cleopatra where Liz and Dick, as they were known in the international press, first began their scandalous love affair (Burton and Taylor were both married to other people at the time), made Taylor’s eye catching canary yellow baby doll dress. She complimented the look with hyacinths and lily-of-thevalley weaved into a dramatic braid and a diamond and emerald Bulgari brooch. After a turbulent 10 years together, they divorced in 1974. The couple remarried 16 months later in Botswana. Again Taylor shunned the traditional wedding dress (we don’t blame her given that it was her sixth wedding) and chose a bohemian tie-dye dress. Their second marriage unfortu-nately lasted less than a year.
Prince Charles & Lady Diana
Their marriage was widely billed as a “fairytale wedding” and “the wedding of the century”. An estimated 750 million tuned in to watch the celebrations and the United Kingdom held a national holiday on that day to mark the wedding. Diana’s wedding dress was created by Elizabeth and David Emanuel and had a 25-foot train of ivory taffeta and antique lace. Charles wore his full dress naval commander uniform. After having two children, the couple divorced 15 years later, before the Princess of Wales’s tragic death.

Brad Pitt & Jenifer Aniston Hearts all over the world melted as Hollywood’s sweethearts Brad and Jen tied the knot on the 29th of July 2000. Choosing to hold their ceremony at a Malibu mansion with over 200 guests, 50,000 flowers, four bands, a gospel choir and fireworks, they certainly weren’t nervous of breaking the budget, since the estimated total cost was approximately $1 million. Wanting to maintain their privacy, the couple only released one photo from the wedding day. Jen wore a dress by Lawrence Steele, studded with tiny pearls, Manolo Blahnik heels and, of course, immaculate hair and Brad looked every inch the heartthrob in a dinner jacket and tie (and equally immaculate hair!) Cast members of Friends were among the guests, along with other A-list actors. The fairytale ended five years later, when their marriage ended amid accusations that Brad had fallen for his Mr. and Mrs. Smith co-star, Angelina Jolie. Their relationship and marriage is still one of the most talked about celebrity unions to this day.

6 ways to honour your deceased relatives during your ceremony
Honouring absent loved ones during important occasions is a wonderful thing to be able to do. To be able to acknowledge someone’s absence, to invoke memories of them and even just to mention their name is a very powerful and cathartic thing that one can do and even more so on your wedding day. As much as some couples would love to remember a loved one on their wedding day, many are unsure of the best and most appropriate way to do so. However, those that do, do so in the way they feel most comfortable with and the way that works best for them.

Here are six of the most common ways that couples honour loved ones during their ceremonies. Carrying photos on bouquets For brides who will be carrying a bouquet, attaching small lockets and photos of deceased relatives is such a sweet way to honour them. Carrying a photo on a bouquet which is literally being carried close to the heart is a powerful way to keep the memory of your absent loved ones close to your heart. Many brides go for this option as it is relatively easy and inexpensive to do and it is also a discreet yet fitting personal tribute to a lost loved one. An empty memorial chair This is quite a new trend that is emerging within wedding ceremonies and makes for a very poignant and personal tribute to a deceased loved one. During the ceremony many couples choose to reserve a seat, which will remain empty for the duration of the ceremony, to symbolize the person who is missing from the ceremony. Some couples choose to put a flower, a photo of their relative or friend, or even an symbolic item that belonged to their relative, on the chair as an extra feature. It is also quite fitting to place a memorial plaque inscribed with wording such as ‘this seat is left empty in
memory of those who cannot be here today,’ which makes for a very personal and loving tribute. A memorial table A memorial table is another lovely way to commemorate and remember absent loved ones. You can decorate a ceremony table or altar with framed photos of the loved ones that you want to be remembered and even add some candles and Calla lilies or Baby’s breath to really enhance the table as a feature. This is another wonderful way to give a nod to your relatives in an intimate and personal setting. Including a special object/tribute Some couples like the idea of commemorating a loved one physically by either having on them something that belonged to them or using something of theirs during the wedding day. Examples include, hand-fasting rituals using a tie, belonging to the deceased father-of-bride, or a silk scarf belonging to the deceased grandmother of the bride. What a beautiful way to have a meaning connection with a loved one who has passed away. Some couples have also included favourite music of their deceased loved ones during the ceremony, maybe as their entrance or exit songs, or a song to listen to within the ceremony. A verbal acknowledgement during the ceremony.
Increasingly, more and more depending on what kind of effect couples are choosing to have that you want to create. The verbal acknowledgements lighting of a memorial candle is (usually said by the celebrant) usually done quite close to the during the wedding ceremony start of the ceremony and usually because this is the start of the your celebrant will explain why day and many people want to you are lighting the candles and honour their loved ones from also who you are remembering. the outset. Old Wives KNEW A THING OR TWO!
Young ladies of today, of course, can drink as much chocolate as they like without fear of it affecting the colour of their baby. Madame de Sevigné failed to report that the Marquise was attended by a stunningly handsome black manservant, whom modern medicine may have linked in some way with the baby’s birth! Yet even today there are those who hold that the drinking of too much coffee will result in a baby being born with light brown birthmarks. However nonsensical that may seem in the modern age, “old wives” with their dire prognostications still abound. And they are to be found all over the world. In Hawaii pregnant women are warned against wearing a lei as this may cause the umbilical cord to wrap round the baby’s head. The western version of this is that a pregnant woman should

hen the Marquise de Coëtlogon gave birth to a black baby in 1671 during the reign of King Louis XIV of France (there is a Coëtlogon commemorated on the walls of the little chapel at La Virginia in Marbella – perhaps a distant descendent?), the redoubtable and somewhat unsympathetic Madame de Sevigné reported: “The Marquise de Coëtlogon drank so much chocolate when she was pregnant last year, that she gave birth to a baby who was black as the devil and died”.
The Marquise de Coëtlogon drank so much chocolate when she was pregnant last year, that she gave birth to a baby who was black as the devil and died
not raise her hands above her head, or indulge in too much stretching. Umbilical cords can certainly wrap round the baby’s head, and, indeed, do so in about 30% of all births (so it is not all that uncommon) but this is caused by the baby moving a lot in the uterus, and not by the mother doing a few relaxing stretches. Coffee and cocoa apart, water is clearly something to be avoided! That is, of course, until the baby is in the process of being delivered. It is then a very good idea to instruct the father-to-be to boil gallons of water. Why this should be so is unclear, but it certainly has the effect of giving men something to do, thus keeping them out of the way. And the hot water is always handy in the clean-up after the birth. Keeping clean beforehand may be a problem if you believe that having a bath can be harmful. The theory is that the water will enter the vagina and drown the foetus. As the lungs of a foetus are already full of water they clearly cannot drown, and in any case external water cannot enter the amniotic sac from outside. The only problem for an expectant mother having a bath may be in the temperature of the water. Anything above 98°F 36°C may have an
adverse effect on the baby in the womb, whilst anything under that temperature might well be beneficial as it will not only relax the mother, but also may induce a feeling of buoyancy which in turn might make the baby feel more free to move. And on the subject of movement, there are those who believe that walking induces labour. This is also unfounded scientifically.
angry, or you will give birth to an angry baby, and never eat strawberries or the baby will have red blotches on its skin. The whole experience of having a baby is clearly fraught with risk! Indeed it may be, but modern medical science has greatly reduced such risk, and one no longer has to rely upon tying the wedding ring to a piece of string and then suspending it above the
A more modern myth states that if you mix lavatory cleaner with your urine and then pour the mixture down the toilet, if it turns pink on hitting the water it will be a girl and, of course, it will be blue for a boy! The idea probably started with the belief that the exercise in some way has an effect on gravity. Apart from exercise there are a number of beliefs regarding the inducement of labour, including herbal teas, having sex, castor oil, laxatives, enemas, or being frightened. In fact, none of these will have any effect, whilst being frightened, according to received “wisdom”, is in the same category of having an unfortunate experience or sighting. If, for example, a women sees something ugly, she will have an ugly baby. Sighting a full moon may induce premature labour. If you dream you are having a girl, you will have a boy, whilst if you try to stuff your swollen feet into high heels the baby will be born cross-eyed. You must avoid getting
swollen belly to determine the sex of the child. If it dangles in a circle it will be a boy, if in a straight line it will be a girl. It will also be a girl if you refuse to eat the heel of a loaf, and if your hands are permanently dry and itchy it will be a boy, as it will be if your feet are cold. But if you crave orange juice it will be a girl.
which might have unwanted consequences is that a woman cannot get pregnant whilst nursing. Ovulation can begin at any time after a birth. Breastfeeding is not a reliable method of birth control. But this year sees the fiftieth anniversary of the birth control pill. As a (usually) reliable method of preventing contraception it replaced many of the nostrums once favoured by old wives. Casanova (1725 – 1798) was reputed to have inserted a half lemon into his lovers as a sort of primitive cervical cap, but had he known it, he would have been far more effective had he himself taken the seeds of the papaya plant. These have the effect of cutting a man’s sperm count to zero, and are quite safe. If he stops taking the seeds, then his sperm count reverts to normal. Watch this space! An article on primitive contraception may well be on its way! (But first we must get past the editor!)
A more modern myth states that if you mix lavatory cleaner with your urine and then pour the mixture down the toilet, if it turns pink on hitting the water it will be a girl and, of course, it will be blue for a boy! One old wives’ tale

ed Carpets are the best resource for fashion lovers, and they’re an even better place of inspiration for future brides. Los Angeles recently hosted the 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) and saw the hottest celebs walk the red carpet wearing white! Engaged ladies, take note of Hollywoods most stylish women when searching for your own wedding dress, stars such as Kerry Washington, Guilana Rancic, Viola Davis and Rebecca Romijn were among the leading ladies to walk in white. So want to look like a star when you walk down the aisle? These A-listers prove that wearing a long white dress doesn’t only need to be on your wedding day, but why not take a little inspiration from these red (or white!) carpet looks.
