“
see myself as an arbiter of taste,” Vera Wang said in a Vogue interview, in 1990, and taste she certainly has. Arguably the most prominent global bridal designer, Vera Wang is renowned for fusing modern designs with traditional elegance.” Born in June 1949 in New York City, Wang enjoyed a pampered upbringing on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The daughter of affluent Chinese immigrants, Vera studied art history and competed professionally in figure skating in her youth. When she didn’t make the 1968 U.S. Olympic team, she “looked to fashion to replace it.” “When you fall down — which you have to [do] if you want to learn to be a skater — you pick yourself right up and start again. You don’t let anything deter you,” she notes. “Oddly enough, it’s strangely like fashion — you have a limited amount of time in which to get a point of view across.”
“When I design a wedding dress with a bustle, it has to be one the bride can dance in. I love the idea that something is practical and still looks great.” Vera was promoted to senior fashion editor making her the youngest ever editor. She stayed with the role for 17 years but was then turned down for the editor-in-chief position so moved to Ralph Lauren to work as design director for accessories. “I became a design director there,” Wang revealed. “It was incredible to work there. The budgets and the staff... as many ideas as you could come up with, that’s what they could

Disappointed with the bridal options on offer, she decided to design her own wedding dress which led to the opening of her own bridal boutique. “I was a late bride and that experience of metamorphosis, going from being a fashion nun to being a bride, was kind of extreme for me,” she says. “There wasn’t anything, either a retail situation or a couture [designer] that really satisfied the needs of modern women, in my opinion. I was using common sense and thinking, ‘Well, everybody doesn’t want to wear the 4-inch cap-sleeve where you can’t lift your arms and a bodice of sequined lace with a big pouf skirt and stuff around your hair dangling down. I just thought there was another vision.” Initially the boutique offered a selection of couture gowns by designers including Guy Laroche, Carolina Herrera and Christian Dior but as Vera honed her design skills, she went onto launch a signature collection of sophisticated bridal wear.

In 2000, Vera Wang’s enthusiasm for couture fashion resulted in the launch of her highly acclaimed ready-towear collection. The Council of Fashion Designers of America honoured Vera Wang by naming her ‘Womenswear Designer of the Year’ in 2005. A wedding-industry standard, Vera’s winning combination of modern design and traditional elegance with a nonchalant approach to style and luxury has attracted a large Hollywood following with her designs frequently worn on the red carpet and many opting to rock the iconic bridal designer’s gowns down the aisle. When Khloe Kardashian wed Lamar Odem she turned to the designer for her outfit of choice, along with her sister Kim, when she wed Kris Humphries (preKanye). TV starlet, Kaley Cuoco opted for a pink tulle Vera Wang gown for her New York nuptials as well as Victoria Beckham,

Get The Look By Nicola McGeorge
I
cannot tell you how many times I get asked by my brides whether I carry Charlotte Tilbury products in my kit? Of course, I do! Find me a good makeup artist who doesn’t swoon over the queen of glows glamorous collection. Plus, Charlotte has been responsible for the bridal makeup of some of the biggest A-list weddings, including Kate Moss and Amal Clooney. So, if anyone knows how to create the best makeup products for your wedding day it’s going to be Charlotte. Today I am going to show you how to create our cover look using my favourite Charlotte Tilbury products.
36 CONFETI
Prep the skin with the awardwinning Charlotte’s Magic Cream, it will give every bride the perfect base and wedding glow for her big day. Followed this with applying the Magic Eye Rescue around the eye area. Once the skincare has had a chance to sink in, apply the Wonderglow primer to ensure the makeup stays for hours. For beautiful bridal skin choose Light Wonder, a lightcoverage foundation and apply it to the face using outward motions. The light-weight formula leaves a gorgeous, natural-looking finish. Use a little of the Retoucher concealer under the eyes and blend well to help reflect the light and conceal dark circles.
For a gorgeous blushing bride look, pop Cheek to Chic blush in Ecstasy, onto the apples of the cheeks. A subtle rosy glow will bring a youthful, fresh look to the face! For the eyes take the Sophisticate Palette and blend the tan shade just above the crease. Taking a clean brush buff out any lines. Apply the matte chocolate shade all over the lid and run it along the bottom lash line. Sweep The Classic Eyeliner in Audrey across
the upper lash line, then re-trace the line for added intensity, winging it slightly up and out to elongate the eye. Line the waterline with Rock N Kohl in Barbarella Brown. Curl lashes and apply the Full Fat Lashes mascara, for a wide-eyed flutter. Use the Brow Lift eyebrow pencil to fill in and shape the eyebrows for the perfect frame and add definition and set in place with Legendary Brows eyebrow gel.
Once you’ve finished applying your foundation and concealer, use the finely milled powder Airbrush Flawless Finish to set the base and stop the foundation looking heavy, powdery or cakey. It also removes any unwanted shine for the photographs.
For a gorgeously kissable pout, first line the lips with Lip Cheat Crazy in Love lip liner all over your lips (rather than just the outline) to really extend the life of your lip colour. When you apply the soft, berry-pink Hot Lips 2 lipstick in Amazing Amal, apply once and then blot with a tissue before applying a second layer.
Get gorgeous sculpted mega-watt cheekbones instantly by ‘following the hollow’ with the Hollywood Contour Wand. The Beauty Light Wand gives an amazing soft-focused Instagram filter for your skin which looks as amazing in real life as it does in photographs. Apply to the tops of cheekbones, the tip of the nose and the inner corner of the eyes.

MAKEUP GOES
au natural
Many people are unaware that skincare and makeup can contain products from insects, fish, and mammals. Thankfully more and more brands are going cruelty-free and vegan. Marbella based makeup artist, Nicola McGeorge, shares her favourite eco beauty products which help her create the perfect bridal makeup look for any eco savvy brides. ‘For a flawless makeup application, skin prep is key. I specialise in working with sensitive skin types and I love the Dr Haushka organic skincare range for anyone with skin concerns. There is a reason this brand can be found in the kits of so many leading makeup artists. Start off with the Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream, which gently cleanses and exfoliates, then apply the nourishing award winning Rose Day Cream for a healthy, radiant glow. Moving onto foundation, the Peta approved Face Atelier Ultra foundation is a kit staple for me and holds up even on the hottest days. Set with RMCAs No Colour powder which works on all skin tones. COVER FX is renowned for their pretty highlighters, while environmental philanthropists Chantecaille creates a Cheek Gelée Happy Hydrating GelCream Blush which is simply dreamy. For the eyes, create your own palette from Cozzettes highly pigmented eyeshadows, then add a feline flick with Kat Von Ds Tattoo liner.

because he loved me and he just wanted to say thank you for being such an amazing girlfriend and so I still had no clue what he was about to do. It was after dinner when Bhavesh suggested that we go for a walk on the beach. As we walked towards the sea, I was holding on to him and walking with precaution as it was dark with only the moonlight to guide us, and the deck that led to the rocks above the shore had large enough gaps for my stilettos to become wedged in! When we arrived at the beach, the moonlight hit the waves that were rolling onto the sand - we just stood there in awe of the scenery. We held each other tight and reminisced about the amazing times we had been through together over all the years we had known each other. He then suddenly said, ‘Can you see that?’ I turned around to see what he was pointing at, and as I looked down, a light shone on to the rocks where there was a sign that read, ‘Marry Me?’. I then turned back around to see that Bhavesh had got down on one knee! He told me that he wanted to spend the rest of his life and more with me

We went back to our table where we finished off our champagne, when Bhavesh told me he had another surprise for me! What could possibly be better than this? We were on a tiny island off the south coast of Cuba and on our last night on the island (we were due to fly to Varadero the next day to continue our holiday), Bhavesh had booked us a table at a restaurant. When we arrived, I was surprised to see that he had arranged for us to dine in a private cabana that was beautifully decorated with candles, flowers and white curtains that were softly blowing in the breeze. During our meal, we were serenaded with beautiful Spanish love songs. At this point he told me that he did this for me

ALL I EVER WANTED AND MORE…
The wedding planning begun almost immediately after we had returned back to the UK. I had always dreamt of an outdoors wedding, with beautiful scenery and romance. I already knew that this would be the theme throughout. We decided to marry in Spain as we both travelled there often. Spain has always been a destination close to home and close to my heart... the ambience, the people, the laidback attitude, the weather and climate.... we had to get married in Spain!

morning, the blessing ceremony in the afternoon followed by cocktails and the reception party into the night. All were outdoors, the weather was amazing and all this infused with the surroundings and the ‘buzz’ our guests came with made it truly the best wedding, I myself, had ever been to, and I still can’t believe that it was my own. I knew I wanted a traditional Hindu wedding with a twist of vintage and regal attire. Dianna from Party People and the team at Beau Rivaaaj ensured that the setting was just that and the planning was impeccable. The mandap was decorated with beautiful fabrics and hanging ornaments. It looked exquisite with traditional but subtle colours. The large pillars surrounding the amphitheatre were draped with beautiful images of Lord Ganesh. For the blessing ceremony, Dianna had stripped away the colours and left a beautiful plain white chuppah that was complemented by the surroundings of the Roman Stone amphitheatre. The ivory and soft pink flowers paired with our outfits made a perfect combination against the sunlight and the greenery.

CONFETI 61
Just getting started... Danielle and José blended English and Spanish traditions to create their fairytale style wedding in Málaga.
We found love We met in a bar on Clapham High Street. I was out with my friends, and José was out with his. I was walking to the bar when José jumped in my way and offered to buy me a drink. We chatted for the rest of the night, and I dug up some of my A-Level Spanish which I am sure sealed the deal for me! The rest as they say is history.
be outdoors, making the most of that lovely light you get with Malaga sunsets. We booked a weekend to Malaga in December 2018 and looked around all of the venues on our shortlist. The castle was the last appointment of the day, and we both came out knowing 100% that it was where we were going to get married.
We got engaged in November 2018 in his birth town of La Laguna in Tenerife. José pulled off a complete surprise, getting down on one knee in front of La Laguna Cathedral. I hadn’t known it, but he has been making frequent trips to Hatton Garden to design my ring for months. My parents have had a house in Malaga for about 15 years, and I have always loved the lifestyle, food (and weather!) in Spain. It feels like a second home to me. Combined with Jose being Spanish and also from the south, Malaga seemed like the perfect 62 CONFETI
location for our wedding, and also a place where we could more or less guarantee there’d be sun. Up where we belong As soon as we got engaged- I set about researching locations in and around Malaga. There were a few
names that kept coming up in my searches and Hotel Castillo de Santa Catalina was one of them. I thought it looked absolutely beautiful in photos and the castle setting with views across the sea and Malaga city were stunning. I also loved that everything could
The church was slightly trickier - again I made a shortlist of churches in the city and Jose got in touch with the priests to check availability. We were so lucky to find Iglesia de San Juan Bautista. Jose spoke to the church’s lovely priest, Don Rafael, who booked us in and helped us through the paperwork process. She’s the one We worked with the wonderful Hollie Ennis at Hollie the Wedding Planner. I am so glad we chose Hollie - she was a dream to work with from start to finish and no ask
was too big or too small. As well as helping to create the wedding of our dreams, she is so lovely, caring and thoughtful too - just the kind of person you’d want to share your special day with. I cannot recommend her highly enough. A classic reinvented I bought a few wedding magazines to get some dress inspiration, but quite honestly, I had no idea what I wanted at first. I went to a few dress shops in London and it was only really by trying things on that I realized I liked lacy form-fitting styles with a little bit of sparkle. I loved trying on the big, princess dresses but they would have just been so impractical in the Spanish heat. I settled on the beautiful Pronovias ‘Princia’ gown (I also loved that it was a Spanish brand!). I worked with their seamstress to customize the strapless dress with delicate armlets and also added some subtle sparkles to the body and train. For my bridesmaids, I wanted classic dresses in a soft blush colour. They all have different body types, so making sure they were all comfortable was my primary concern. We settled on a different style of dress for each bridesmaid but all in the same blush colour. José wore tails in a deep navy colour from his family shop in Algeciras, JJ Marton, as did all of the men in the bridal party - although they stuck to the traditional black. Shoes and accessories were also from JJ Marton.
we kept the father of the bride speech, and had Spanish touches such as the churros stand and Spanish guitar player. I went for a mix of white/cream roses, eucalyptus and baby’s breath for all of the flowers - mine and the bridesmaids’ bouquets, the table centre pieces, the altar at the church and also adorning the table plan. For the tables, I added gold tea lights and place settings as well, and for the top table, a mix of gold tealights and candlesticks. It felt really elegant and matched the grandeur of the venue perfectly. We do We went for a traditional Catholic ceremony in Iglesia de San Juan
Bautista in the centre of Malaga. We wanted the ceremony to be as inclusive as possible for the British attendees because it was conducted largely in Spanish. We mixed in some English readings (from my wonderful school friend, Claire) and also included songs the English guests would know. The music blew me away when I walked down the aisle. Definitely a tear-jerking moment. I was also pretty clear that I wanted one of the songs to be William Blake’s Jerusalem - the Brits loved that. Dinner is served The castle’s catering company is called Lepanto, and they were absolutely brilliant. We had a starter of fresh lobster with avocado and salmon
mille-feuille followed by slowcooked Iberian beef cheek and “Rondeño” cheese parcel and then two desserts: a chocolate volcano with vanilla coulis and berries, and a white chocolate and mango timbale. We also had some delicious canapes and a ‘jamón’ carvery as guests arrived, and later in the evening we had a churros stall pitch up. The shots of anis they were served with went down extremely well.
I knew I wanted pretty, bright and natural make-up (I used the Victoria’s Secret runway look as inspiration) and my hair worn long and in waves, but beyond that I wasn’t too prescriptive. The look really came together at my hair and make-up trial, and I got to test out my ideas and see them come to life with the brilliant Alex Bridal for hair and Nicola McGeorge for make-up. On the day, I went for a half up, half down style with hair left loose around my face and then we added pearls for a finishing touch. My make-up was really light and natural, with gold tones around my eyes and pink lips. I was so happy with how it all turned out. Sophisticated Style I had an overall colour palette of white and gold, and we had a logo designed that we used on our invites (and the wax seals), our menus, table plan and also our cake topper. Jose’s brother is an architect and really creative, so he helped us a lot with that side of things. It was also really important to us to blend English and Spanish traditions - for example, CONFETI 63
Dancing the night away We found a brilliant singer at Tanit beach club called Adriana. We didn’t know at the time, but she had been on the Spanish version of The Voice - so many of our Spanish guests knew who she was. I wanted some soft, chilled jazz-style music when guests arrived at the castle, and Adriana’s voice was perfect for this. We also had a Spanish guitar playing through the meal which was really atmospheric and provided such a lovely, authentically Spanish ambience. Later we had a DJ which was great to get the party started. Our first dance was to New York, New York by Frank Sinatra and we worked with a dance teacher for our dance. We also made a bit of a moment out of the ‘entrance of the bride and groom’. We played ‘The Greatest Show’ as we came down the stairs from the castle balcony and walked among all of the tables saying hi to our guests. It was such a fun moment with everyone clapping - one of my highlights of the day for sure.
A token of love I wanted to keep favours classy and traditional, so we offered cigars from the Canaries to the men (a Spanish tradition) and beautiful pashminas to the ladies. Jose’s dad owns a clothing store in Algeciras called El Caballo, so he sourced them for us and also made a lovely little card insert with our logo and a thank you note to add to the packets. The guests loved them, and hopefully they’ll think of the day when they use them. The big picture Kino Ortega was our wedding photographer. His work has such lovely colours and really captures special moments as opposed to all staged photos. We did a trial in June when Jose and I visited from London and we ended up with some really gorgeous photos in and around Malaga city. I am really happy with the final photos from the wedding - we look so happy in every shot. I love that he managed to capture that so well.

Love at first laugh
Javi and Amelia married on the beach of Zahara de los Atunes with an exotic vibe and endless personal touches. Instant click We met on a night out in London. Nothing particularly special until we really ended up laughing about an inappropriate joke we (only us!) both thought was hilarious and Javi borrowed a ring from a friend, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him there and then. We met for our first date on Southbank the next day. The date lasted 13hours wandering down the river and comparing our very different lives. Something really clicked right from the start. I’m from London and Javi is from El Puerto de Santa Maria but now we live in Barcelona. We knew we wanted a beach setting for our ceremony and an exotic vibe for our party. Not to mention Zahara de los Atunes was a location Javi had taken me on my first trip to see his home, so there was something really special about its remote location feeling like our little paradise. We love how tropical the area feels with its cystal-clear waters and the softest Andalucian sands, mixed with a very chilled charm and local vibe. With Javi being from a nearby town, it was the perfect location for friends and family travelling from areas 66 CONFETI CONFETI 66
of Spain and only a short flight for those coming from London. For our other friends based in New York, Tel Aviv, Germany, and elsewhere we just hoped they’d appreciate how special the location was and we knew we’d treat them to a great holiday! Laid-Back Luxury… Our choice for Hotel Varadero was a combination of the flexible attitude of the owner and how amazingly connected all the different outdoor spaces were. We wanted to create a laid-back day for all our guests so the effortless transition from the bare-foot beach ceremony, to sunset decking cocktail, to the oasis-style dinner just matched the relaxed feeling we were after. The boutique hotel is set directly on the Alemanes beach and we just loved the wooden sculptures and Buddha statues hidden amongst the tropical foliage, it really added to the tranquility of the venue. We were in love with the stunning views, especially at sunset when you can clearly see Africa from the beach-facing rooms and the downstairs decking space where the guests would be lounging.
So many of our guests were travelling from abroad that the hotel’s 14 rooms offered a convenient and premium night’s rest, directly in the venue. This was perfect for us hosting a prewedding dinner in a beach bar the night before, allowing guests to go swimming on the morning of the wedding day and even popping back to change into their dancing shoes on the night! Miami Beach Vibes meets 90’s Nostalgia… We are both designers who love to try to approach things with an individual perspective. Our ambition for the day was to abandon convention if it just didn’t suit us (where appropriate!) by adding our personal twist whilst also reordering and rethinking the classic wedding elements we wanted to include. I have to say, I was always a little skeptical of wedding design and disliked feeling that you have to have some things because it’s a wedding - a table plan, a guest book etc. We were both a bit concerned it wouldn’t feel like us and we would end up compromising how special it felt for us. Our style was inspired by our travels, our fashion sense and what we think makes a good party – a blend of retro Miami Beach vibes and 90s nostalgia. As unusual as it sounds, it really brought a sense of individuality to our day! Even for us, this was hard to translate, and we thought our goal was going to be almost impossible to achieve. Our first mood boards were overflowing with ideas that weren’t really unifying into a single style.
A Touch of Gold… Our wedding planner, Sophie Warren Weddings helped provide focus (turns out geometric airplant holders don’t really match with pastel sprayed palm trees!) but also brought original ideas. She second guessed our vision and was such a huge help in tying together every single tiny element of the whole day - researching, presenting and organising incredibly unique ideas. Our vision was translated through a pastel colour palette applied indulgently from the painted palm trees to the guest gift bags. Our table plan was a phenomenal display of pastel
sprayed pineapples that became an area the guests wanted to have their photos taken in front of. Pink glassware and gold cutlery kept the quirky décor looking luxe and even the guests arrived wearing pastel colours thanks to the theme being used across the wedding website. My bridal party was three maids and a “bridesman”, so I wanted to choose a colour that was less feminine than pastel. I thought gold would be a great compliment to the colour scheme and reflect the bright sunlight. It was really important for me to allow the individual personalities of each of my best friends to shine and so I

Doing things a little differently… I knew I was looking for a dress that wasn’t too obviously bridal. The one I chose was actually an evening gown by Australia designer Michael Lo Sordo. The light weight silk was perfect for a relaxed beach wedding, whilst the stunning detail of the backless shape and long side slits meant it was perfect for hot weather. Because of its simplicity I could really have fun with the accessories. I wore large crystal earrings by an independent Berlin designer called Sabrina Dehoff. My dramatic hair piece and fingertip veil were bought from Aukmla on Amazon Marketplace and JasminVeils on Etsy.

We’re so utterly grateful to have that gift of memories. Javi and I both lost a parent when we were young. They are both scattered by the sea – my mother in the UK, Javi’s father in Spain. Before the wedding, we collected a jar of sand from both locations and during the ceremony we combined the two sands from our parents as well as sand from Zahara beach where we stood. It was our interpretation of families and friends uniting and the most symbolic and emotional part of the day. We now have the sand in a geometric terrarium in our home in Barcelona where it supports colourful airplants.
The venue was already an oasis so we made the decision not to have a florist and welcomed guests with an assortment of pastel sprayed pineapples and palms. Our ceremony took place on the beach and our planner helped us create a spiral seating layout with a draped pagoda in the middle. Guests had a short stroll to the ceremony area from the hotel and a close friend had written a song to play on the guitar as I walked into the spiral aisle, passing every one of the guests. It’s all in the details… Zahara de los Atunes is most famous for its tuna so we made sure we served several variations throughout the cocktail hour and sit-down wedding meal. The whole menu was traditional Andalucian dishes and the amazing catering company, Catering Santa Brigida, provided a saber de jamon and a fresh mussels stand. Our planner helped us bring to life a vision we had for a nontraditional guest book which involved tying hundreds of coloured ribbons to a tree and asking friends and family to write and attach messages on postcards I had designed. The postcard designs were inspired by one of my favourite British artists, Peter Blake, and were collages of random objects and locations that related to anecdotes about our relationship – from the rollercoaster of the New York New York hotel in Vegas to a shark. 68 CONFETI
A gift of memories… Javi has known our photographer, Carmela, since they were kids. It was incredibly special to have someone so close to us play such a huge role in the wedding. She’s the most friendly and adaptable person, completely understanding our brief for candid shots and seemingly able to be in 10 places at the same time (we call her the ninja photographer). Not to mention she’s from Cadiz but now
lives in the UK, so she had the perfect understanding and vocab to communicate with the mix of Spanish and English guests. Finally, and very importantly, her beautiful photos. She totally captured the atmosphere of the day – the vibrancy, the details, the subtle moment of a laugh or a tear. Looking through the album in the month after the wedding was like revisiting all the emotions
If I had to do it again I would change… Overestimating how long the ‘little’ things take in the lead up. We knew the hotel had a printer for Javi’s mum´s speech but it was broken when we tried to use it on the morning of the wedding. Then the print shop we found on Google in the local town had closed down, so a 40minute drive later we found ourselves waiting outside a stationery shop for it to reopen after lunch. Our incredible wedding planner had the whole event timed to the minute, but you still need a window for the unexpected. To future couples… You’re in it together for each other, so share everything in the planning, the execution and the day. A few days before the wedding it was 2am and Javi and I were sat on the floor covered in pastel paint, surrounded by 40 pastel-sprayed pineapples and 6 palm trees and I just thought, this is mad, but you’re in it with me and I couldn’t love you more.

Lisa Lisa and and Jonathan Jonathan added added their their own own personal personal touch touch to to their their wedding wedding day, day, hand-crafting hand-crafting their their decorations, decorations, favours favours and and place-cards place-cards creating creating aa tropical tropical paradise paradise in in Nerja. Nerja.
Sweet Home Spain Jonathan and I met a long time ago in Ireland when I went to his 21st birthday party, but then we didn’t see each other for years. We met again in December 2010. Our first date happened to fall on the same date we had met years before. We went to a wedding in Nerja in 2011 and fell in love with the place. We always said if and when the day comes, we would get married in the region as it held a special place in our heart. We moved to Estepona in October 2017 and are still living here. Spanish life is the best and we felt our guests would be able to make a holiday out of the wedding, so it seemed like the perfect choice. Love at First Sight We fell in love with Casa De Los Bates the minute we pulled up to the house. It had everything we wanted, the gardens were the main attraction, they are stunning and full of colour, like a tropical paradise, just how we wanted our wedding to look. The house also caters for larger parties and we loved that the dinner area and night time marquee party were separate. The venue is simply stunning. 70 CONFETI
Laura Kinsella Millinery made my mother’s headpiece. Old School Party Jonathan and I spent months creating decoration pieces, we put a lot of work into them as well as all the wedding favours, fans, place names etc. Zoe Louise sang for the ceremony and cocktail hour and then the band, Stolen Nombes. A close friend of Jonathan’s, Jamie Byrne, was the evening DJ and he was amazing. We wanted a big party with all our favourite old school dance music for the night time. We also hired a saxophonist called Leonard. Exactly as I Wanted I went to The White Gallery in Newry, Ireland for my Rue De Seine Dress. I had already picked three out, so I knew more or less from the start what I wanted. I went for the Layla gown, a silk appliquéd boho style fitted dress, with a low pom pom back and long laser cut train. I adored it before I tried it on. My bridesmaids
were all from ASOS and all the flower girls were Zara and knitted pearl crochet tops from a friend of mine who runs Knitwits of London. All the flower bouquets hoops I made myself as well as my own flower crown. Friends of mine from Dontkillmyvibe supplied the jewellery and also Niamh Mooney Design made the headpieces for the girls and
The house made a French vanilla marble cake and decorated it with Bougonvilia from the gardens which was a wonderful touch. We chose The Love Hunters as our photographers. They were amazing to work with, Marcus made sure he got every single shot with the perfect lighting. He was brilliant. I also love the wedding video and would recommend every bride and groom opts for one, it is an extra cost but worth every penny and ideal for treasuring the special memories.

The ceremony, hosted by celebrant Nikki Kulin, who was a dream to work with, was beautiful from beginning to end. It was very special and intimate and fun. I also loved the dinner, just sitting watching all our favourite people together having fun. The evening party was amazing, the music was brilliant all night and the atmosphere was electric. If I could change one thing‌ I would not stress as much before the wedding. We took a lot on ourselves and I was pretty stressed leading up to it. I would definitely try and do as much as possible myself and I would use a wedding planner that I had good communication with. My advice would be‌ Give yourself plenty of time, be creative so the day represents your personalities and use a wedding planner who has great reviews and also communicates with you both properly and takes full interest in your special day. Also shop around for different prices and hire decor if needed. Set a budget and try to stick to it, especially in the last few months. Finally, create monthly plans to tick off the list to save extra stress as the day gets closer and most of all enjoy it!

Katherine and David’s elegant and sophisticated style shone through at their picture-perfect wedding celebration at Villa Del Mar Do you believe in destiny? David and I met in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada where I am from.David had moved to Vancouver for work. I had been working at a restaurant and was working my last shift as I had a new job lined up. I was standing by the front door when David walked in and he immediately came over to me and asked my name and we started talking. It was like a lightening bolt. Somewhere between here and there we found each other. Sometimes you have this feeling that you were meant to be exactly in the right spot at the right time. He went to the bar for a drink and on the way out he slipped his business card in to the sleeve of my top. I messaged him that night and we arranged to meet up the next evening. Six months later David had to move back to England and he asked if I would join him. We both took a huge leap of faith and it was worth it.
vacation. David had the ring made in England and arranged for it to be delivered to Spain. This meant that he wasn’t sure which day he would propose on. This particular day I was relaxing by the pool while David was doing some “work calls”. He came up to me casually and suggested a walk to this great seafood place down the beach. We got to the pool bar and instead of turning left we were shown to the end of the pier in front of Marbella Club Hotel where a string quartet was playing ‘Somewhere over the rainbow,’ and a beautifully set dining table looking out over the sea and a bottle of champagne were waiting for us. He got down on one knee and he asked me to spend the rest my life with him. It was one of the most magical, romantic moments of my life. From that moment on we knew that this was the place we wanted to share with all our family and friends on our wedding day.

hotel manager that arranged our special engagement showed us Villa Del Mar. It was beyond our wildest dreams. It was perfect. Living in England and planning a wedding in Spain we knew we needed a wedding planner and Carla at Tucco Weddings & Unique Affairs really stood out. And she delivered. She helped bring our vision to life and made some wonderful suggestions as well. Her service on the day was exceptional and honestly, we couldn’t have done it without her and her team. The Lust List My wedding dress was from Berta, when I put it on, I felt beautiful and I knew that it was the one. The dress set the tone for the rest of the bridesmaids and accessories. I had a beautiful art deco hair piece that fit in my low bun and an over the face veil. There was so much detailing on the dress so I went for a simple veil. My shoes were Manolo Blahnik. My bridesmaids’ dresses were from Fairytail London, we went in one day and tried a bunch on and the romantic off the shoulder, flowing light pink dresses turned out beautifully. For hair and make-up I wanted a romantic look and my makeup artist Nicola McGeorge and hair stylist Alex Harrocks did a beautiful job. Everyone looked so beautiful and flawless. David and his groomsmen all had custom made tuxedos. The groomsmen were in all black while David’s was dark navy with black lapels. David wanted all the
we wanted to enhance the natural beauty of the venue. The flowers were mainly orchids, hydrangeas, light pink peonies and roses. We wanted an effortless elegance with a few touches of art deco and gold. Twinkly lights over the pool to give some warmth as the sun went down and to view the fireworks through. More than words We had a string quartet and as I walked down the aisle they played ‘La Vie En Rose.’ Our ceremony was a wonderful blend of sentiment and tradition, short and sweet. David’s daughter Lilly shared a poem by EE Cummings, ‘I carry your men to look sharp. He had a Tom Ford shirt and bow tie and Crocket & Jones shoes. Captured Moments Our whole day was captured by husband and wife team Bloomfield Photography. Their service was excellent, and we gave them a list of shots we wanted and they nailed them all. Their work following the wedding has also been superb. Videography was something we weren’t sure on having, but I think it ended up being the most amazing thing to commemorate such a special day. The quality of the videography team Ziffir is so fantastic and I am so pleased with their work. Simply stylish We really wanted our wedding to compliment the surroundings. We feel our hearts have so much love to give and it was so important for us that our guests felt that warmth and love. After the ceremony our guests were shown to a beautiful idyllic courtyard where they were able to enjoy a flowing bar and canapés. They were then directed to the other side of the villa which opens up to an infinity pool overlooking the sea. We entered as husband and wife to ‘It’s a wonderful world’ by Louie Armstrong.

Jump to the beat We saw the band, The Italian Job, at a festival in Manchester and we loved their sound so we hired them and flew them out to Spain. Our first dance was to ‘Harvest Moon’ by Neil Young. We had the cake cutting and then fireworks played with Queen Bohemian Rhapsody. After the band finished playing, we had DJ Mike play until 2 am and he was fabulous. Everyone danced and no one wanted to leave when the music stopped, so everyone jumped in the pool with their clothes on, including me, the bride, but my mother made sure I changed out of my dress before jumping in!

Dutch couple, Maxime and Juri enjoyed a fairytale wedding that even Walt Disney would be proud of. Once up a time... I like to think that our relationship is a real-life fairytale.15 years ago we became high school sweethearts and stayed together even through further education and lots of travelling. It showed that our love was made to last. In February 2017 we were on holiday in Curacao and Juri arranged for us to dine on the beach. Even while I sipped a glass of champagne gazing at the romantic sunset, I still didn’t have any idea that he was about to propose. I had waited for so long that I had actually given up. Eventually a small boat came ashore and one of the passengers brought over the most magical turquoise box – a Tiffany & Co box. Juri went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Juri has Spanish blood running through his veins and his father has lived in Marbella for many years. After enjoying numerous holidays together on the Coast, we knew it was where we wanted to get married. Juri asked me one evening what would be my dream venue and I told him the Puente Romano. He immediately began liaising with their wedding planner Tara Lorimer and we set about arranging our romantic Spanish fairytale wedding. Tara understood our vision completely and did everything to make our dreams come true. For the evening we decided to hold our reception at the Trocadero Petit Playa so I could feel the sand between my toes. Your wish will come true CINDERELLA I have been dreaming about my wedding dress since I was a little girl, I imagined myself wearing a gown fit for a princess. I will admit for years I had a photo saved on my phone of a wedding dress I had fallen in love with. 76 CONFETI

I wanted soft colours, a natural beauty look. No words can describe how beautiful I felt on my wedding day. My makeup artist, Nicola McGeorge, created a look that was just magical, I had never felt so beautiful before in my life. It was more perfect than I could ever have dreamed of. For my hair, I wanted an up-do so that the open back dress could still be seen through the veil. I explained to my hairstylist, Maite Llaguno, that I wanted a modern take on a classical up-do. Maite created the perfect style with just
the right touch of Spanish vibes. For the décor and floral designs, I created a mood board and Karen from Deseos worked hard to bring my vision to life. All the flowers where so beautiful, the floral heart with our initials and my bouquet were so perfect that I cried when I saw them. Think happy thoughts – PETER PAN The ceremony was very intimate. My father walked down the aisle with me, and I felt like I was flying. My grandfather married us which was a big surprise for all the guests. He was incredible, I was so proud. Our Home from Home Charlotte and Graeme hosted their glamourous wedding day celebration at a prestigious golf club in Marbella.
Happy every after On my birthday last year, Graeme and I were enjoying a morning walk along the beach during our visit to Marbella, when he suggested talking some photos for my fitness Instagram account, (I am a personal trainer.) I turned around and found him down on one knee. I had no idea at all that he was going to propose to me, it was a wonderful surprise. My family and friends were delighted to hear the news. No place like home I grew up in Spain and all of my family still live here, so it still feels like home to me. Graeme also loves it and we have enjoyed many happy vacations here, so it was an obvious choice for us when deciding where we should get married.
Views to wow Our wedding venue was the exclusive Los Naranjos Golf Club in Nueva Andalucia. We were having lunch with my dad at the golf club a few days after the proposal and started discussing how it would actual make an ideal wedding venue for our special day. Boasting breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and golf course it is picture perfect. The restaurant is well known for its excellent food and ambiance, offering a gastronomic variety based on international cuisine. 80 CONFETI
The restaurant and huge terraces could provide different areas to hold the ceremony, celebration drinks and the reception. We spoke with the manager Christian, who was so lovely and accommodating that we knew we would be in the best hands and that his team would do an amazing job. With all the boxes ticked we were delighted to have found our dream wedding venue. A helping hand I did most of the planning myself along with my family. Steph Miller, who is a family friend took over the coordinating on the day and made sure everything ran smoothly. Kim Nordstrom, helped with our beautiful chuppah, flowers and stationery. Fairytale Frock My wedding dress was not what I thought I would go for; in fact it was the complete opposite. I ended up choosing a Mori Lee ballgown, princess style wedding dress, which I only tried on as my mum and now mother in law made me. They had fallen in love with it, so I agreed to put it on just to entertain them and ended up falling in love with it myself. The one detail I did keep from my original vision was the low back design on the dress, which I always wanted.
The bridesmaid dresses were a blush pink, nice and simple, I found them online and had them altered. Graeme’s suit was a relaxed summer style from Tux Lux in Mill Hill. My shoes came off after the ceremony and family photos were done. I swapped them for a pair of platform trainers, which was the best thing I could have done. I highly recommend it to future brides. I danced all night and nobody even saw them, (except for Jeremy the photographer who managed to snap them during the Israeli dancing,) the secret is now out.
I left my hair and makeup all down to Liza Mayne who was incredible. She got exactly what I wanted straight away at my trial. I didn’t want anything too heavy and I knew I wanted my hair half up. She created loose waves, with sections pulled away from my face. A delicate crystal hair accessory was added so there would still be some wow factor when the veil was removed. For the makeup a soft brown smokey eye was paired with a gorgeous rose bud lip and glowing skin. Celebrate in style Rabbi Steven Katz was wonderful and conducted the perfect ceremony for us under our pink and white chuppah. Quike the violinist, who is phenomenal, performed during the ceremony and reception, then the Hitman & Her Duo got everyone onto the dance floor with their set and DJ Tristan kept the music going till the early hours. We booked Jeremy Standley and Ruth Brown of Cinefoto for our photography and videography. They came highly recommended and we couldn’t have been
happier. They managed to capture all the special moments from getting ready at the hotel to the wedding party. The whole time we were getting ready and having our hair and make-up done, they were so professional and we barely knew they were there. Seeing the images and videos they managed to capture afterwards was fantastic. We are really happy with the final results and would highly recommend them. What were your favourite moments? Just seeing everyone together enjoying themselves, having all our close friends and family there meant so much to us. I also loved the speeches, my dad, the groom, and best man were brilliant and had everyone in stitches. It really was the perfect day in every way.

Choose the Costa del Sol for your Destination Wedding By Aileen O’Leary Destination weddings are becoming increasingly more popular but how are you supposed to choose where to go? There are beautiful beaches and charming cities all over the world but do you really need to travel that far? We don’t think so! The Costa del Sol is our top choice for your destination wedding for multiple reasons. Here our top five.
1. The Costa It’s all in the name! With 150km of coastline, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to booking your destination wedding. Whether you’re dreaming of sandy beaches, a pebble paradise or saying “I do” aboard a luxury yacht, the Costa del Sol is the place to be. Perhaps the best thing about the Costa del Sol is the incredible variety of venues available. Your coastal, destination wedding can be held in modern, five-star hotels or in historic, Moorish villas.
82 CONFETI
But that’s not all. Do you want to get married in a big city or a small town? Either way the Costa del Sol has got you covered. Visit Malaga for a chic, urban wedding where your guests can visit first-class museums and enjoy award winning food. If you fancy something a little more intimate why not try
beautiful Manilva where you can enjoy the seaside surrounded by stunning vineyards and get in some much needed postwedding relaxation. If you only want to be beach side for a day or two, consider heading inland for the wedding day where you’ll find lovely
venues and stunning views. The beautiful town of Rhonda was described by Ernest Hemingway as a “romantic background” so definitely worth a day trip at least!
2. The Sol
3. Accessibility
Most couples who choose a destination wedding are hoping to secure a little sunshine. If you’re one of them, look no further. With average temperatures between 10-15ºC in the winter and 25-30ºC in the summer, there is no bad time to get married on the Costa del Sol.
The Costa del Sol is incredibly easy to access, especially from the UK and Ireland. Malaga Airport is the gateway to the Costa del Sol with a whopping 14 million people passing through in previous years.
If you find the heat of summer unbearable or you just want to avoid all the tourists, consider getting married in the spring or the autumn. Your guests might appreciate a little holiday mid-year, the temperature will be perfect, and you may benefit from off-season pricing.
Flights in and out of Malaga are operated primarily by budget airlines so it should be relatively inexpensive for your family and friends to join you on your wedding day.
Don’t forget, the Costa del Sol is very popular in the summer months so flights get more expensive and the airport can be very busy. Once you’re on the ground, it’s very easy to book transfers to your chosen venue or you can make use one of the many car hire companies based at the airport. Malaga Airport is just 8km from Malaga City and within less than an hour you can also get to: Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella and more!
There’s not much else to say except pack some sunscreen and don’t forget to consider the temperature when buying your wedding dress!
CONFETI 83
4. The Cost Destination weddings are not always cheaper than staying home but they can be. If you are living in London or Copenhagen and planning your wedding in Spain, you might find significant savings. If you’re a budget conscious bride, ask potential venues if you can supply your own alcohol and caterers. Andalucía has 40,000 hectares of vineyards producing delicious wines that
you can get at great prices from the local hypermarket. If you do choose to provide your own alcohol, make sure you can return unopened cases to the shop where you place your order.
While we’re talking booze, skip the champagne and enjoy delicious Spanish cava. It tastes great and you’ll be supporting local businesses and embracing Spanish culture.
Hiring your own caterer also means that you can get exactly the food you want. It’s always worth investigating local delicacies to give your guests something a little different. Paella and churros anyone?
5. Culture Of course there are family traditions that you’ll want to include in your special day but a destination wedding also offers you the opportunity to try something a little different. Brits and Americans are used to afternoon ceremonies with receptions that wrap up around midnight but Spanish weddings are something else entirely. A Spanish wedding
is a huge affair with the ceremony taking place sometime after 19:00 and the reception lasting well into the night (or morning technically). If you’re getting married on the Costa del Sol, staying warm isn’t a problem so why not adopt the local customs and have an evening wedding? If you get married in the summer, you’ll probably have to in order to keep your groom from sweating into the cake! For couples who want to give their guests a little thank you present, why not go for a Spanish abanico (fan) which is both a souvenir and something to keep them cool during cocktail hour. Speaking of cocktail hour, skip the sangria which is primarily a tourist drink on the Costa del Sol and serve tinto de verano to give your guests that true Spanish experience. Have we convinced you yet? Start planning your wedding on the Costa del Sol!
