PUBLISHER’S LETTER
Well, hello July
The temperature has soared, and this July is extra special for Spain as we are finally moving forward and welcoming tourists back across the borders. After three months of Coronavirus lockdown Spain has lifted its national state of emergency and reopened to tourists, welcoming Brits and travellers from 26 European countries. We have now reached the ‘new normal’ and tourists can enjoy their holidays without the worry of catching the virus thanks to the strict protocols in place including hygiene controls and new regulations. Before we go any further, we would like to thank Mayoress, Ángeles Muñoz for her kind letter recognising the efforts of our SOCIETY MARBELLA team. Of course, we couldn’t have done any of the work without the fabulous support of our contributors, I Bites, Delicias Gourmet Group, La Sala, El Banco, Marbella Bakes, Sana Catering, The Harbour, The Boardwalk and OWL. Thank you to you all for helping us turn a challenging situation into a rewarding one. Since we returned to the ‘newnormal’ it’s been all hands-on deck at SOCIETY headquarters with events now beginning to take place. The launch of La Plaza in the Puente Romano Hotel reminded us just how much we love our beautiful coastal home and how we can still enjoy all our favourite locations whilst sticking to social distancing protocols. Our cover star needs no introduction, Jennifer Aniston has been ‘the girl next door’ or the girl we wished we lived next door to since her Friends days and now we love her even more as she is standing up for racial inequality in a big way. Turn to page 24 to travel through time and remind yourself just why we have always been on Team Jen. Whilst we have been trying to cool off, our speed freak, Ian Kuah was turning the heat up a notch as he took the BMW X7 for a spin. Packed with all the usual articles, news and reviews, plus out new Instagram influencer feature and our Shop Local special. This summer issue is brimming with local content and comes with a big reminder to #shoplocal, #eatlocal and #drinklocal. Help us support the community and return the coast to its glory days. It’s time to enjoy another Marbella summer. Andy Clark

orn in Sherman Oaks, California, to actors John Aniston and Nancy Dow, Jennifer Joanna Aniston was born on February 1st 1969. Her godfather is actor Telly Savalas, one of her father’s best friends. After spending a year living in Greece, her parents returned to the US but sadly divorced when she was 9. Her mother raised her in New York City where her father was based after he won a role on the soap opera, Days of Our Lives. Jennifer’s first taste of acting was when she was 11, after joining Rudolf Steiner School’s drama club. In 1989 she ventured into television roles with two unsuccessful shows, Molloy and Ferris Bueller. Her big break came when she was cast as the funny, spoiled waitress, Rachel Green in Friends. Little did she know it would become one of the most-watched shows

on television. Her on-off relationship with Ross Geller (played by David Schwimmer) became one of the show’s most popular story lines. Her famous layered hairstyle earned her the sobriquet of ¨America’s First Hairdo¨ from Rolling Stone magazine. During Friends reign Aniston received an Emmy Award in 2002 and a Golden Globe in 2003. Along with her fellow cast members, she came one of the highestpaid television actors earning 1 million dollars per episode. Jennifer was the first actor from Friends to be honoured with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Additionally, Men’s Health magazine voted her the “Sexiest Woman of All Time”. Alongside her Friends commitment Aniston continued to star in feature films, most frequently in an array of romantic comedies including The Object of My Affection, Office Space, The Good Girl as well as opposite Jim Carrey in

In the early days Jennifer was linked to actor Tate Donovan and rock singer, Adam Duritz of the group Counting Crows. But it was when she was spotted with Hollywood royalty, Brad Pitt, that the headlines went into overdrive. In July 2000 the couple tied the knot in Malibu, California. Sadly, in January 2005 the couple announced their separation with rumours floating around Pitt’s relationship with co-star Angelina Jolie. A short relationship with Vince Vaughan followed before Jennifer found love with Wanderlust co-star, Justin Theroux. After 15 months of dating the couple announced their engagement and married on August 5th 2015. They separated at the end of 2017. Jennifer has always supported various issues through philanthropic work but most recently made headlines by backing up her commitment to the fight against racial injustice with a sizeable donation. Aniston quietly donated nearly 1 million dollars to several charities, including Colours of Change, dedicated to the battle against systemic racism, and discrimination. On May 20th, 5 days after the killing of George Floyd, Aniston added her voice to the chorus of celebs speaking out against racism. ¨This week has been heart-breaking for so many reasons. We need to acknowledge that the racism and brutality in this country has been going on for a long time – and it’s NEVER been okay,¨ shared the actress alongside a video of famed author and activist James Baldwin. “As allies, who want equality and peace, it’s our responsibility to make noise, to demand justice, to educate ourselves on these issues, and more than anything, to spread love,” she added, “How much more time are we willing to let pass without change? HOW MUCH MORE TIME?”

And the beginning of an ab is appearing. Very pleased.’ The singer has previously spoken candidly about her past issues relating to drugs and alcohol, most notably in her autobiography My Words Exactly and her most recent album, No Shame. In a 2018 interview, Lily spoke to GQ magazine about what she referred to as her “co-dependent” relationship with alcohol, revealing that at a particular time in her personal life years earlier, things had become “really bad”, to the extent she was drinking a bottle of vodka a night. “I lost my house and my kids started to feel distant and I broke up with my husband and started to realise [drinking like that] probably wasn’t working,” she told the magazine. At the time, Lily claimed: “I’ve always been a big self-medicator… now knowing that, if I’m not feeling 100 percent, I just stay away from drugs and alcohol, basically.”

VARDY TAKES REVENGE R ebekah Vardy is gunning for revenge against Coleen Rooney launching a £1million High Court defamation lawsuit. The wife of England striker Jamie Vardy accused Coleen of defamation after Coleen made claims on social media about her leaking personal stories. Coleen claimed she posted a string of false stories on her Instagram account with restricted access, with the sole purpose of seeing if they appeared in the media. When they subsequently did, she claimed that the fake stories had only been viewed by Rebekah’s account, ending with the reveal. ‘It’s… Rebekah Vardy’s account.’ The two mums are now headed for the High Court with legal costs reportedly set to hit £500,000 on each side. Rebekah is reportedly more concerned about clearing her name and having a public apology than any financial settlement.

t is not only our cover star, Jennifer Aniston supporting racial inequality in recent months. Chart-topping musician Stormzy has pledged £10 million over the next 10 years to organisations, charities and movements committed to fighting racial inequality, justice reform and Black empowerment in the UK. His company #Merky said the pledge was “just the beginning of our lifetime commitment to financially and wholeheartedly back these causes”. In a statement, Stormzy said: “The uncomfortable truth that our country continuously fails to recognise and admit, is that black people in the UK have been at a constant disadvantage in every aspect of life – simply due to the colour of our skin. I’m lucky enough to be in the position I’m in and I’ve heard people often dismiss the idea of racism existing in Britain by saying ‘If the country’s so racist how have you become a success?!’ and I reject that with this: I am not the UK’s shining example of what supposedly happens when a black person works hard. There are millions of us. We are not far and few. We have to fight against the odds of a racist system stacked against us and designed for us to fail from before we are even born. Black people have been playing on an uneven field for far too long and this pledge is a continuation in the fight to finally try and even it.” Stormzy and #Merky added that additional information on the pledge would be announced in due course, as they urged others to join them in pledging.

Board games can in fact be traced back three times as far as the Norwegian discovery indicates, with Senet, (Senat or Sen’t) a two player puzzler known to be enjoyed in Ancient Egypt. Found in Predynastic (5500 years before Dynasty first aired) and First Dynasty (the joke

that looked a bit like a lady’s breasts. Despite its immediate failure on every intended count, the game remains extremely popular some 4000 years later.
Mehen, also originating in Egypt 4700 years ago is believed to be the earliest example of a multi-player board game, with up to six people competing not to lose their shirts or build a pyramid by themselves or lick a mummy or something. The game was named for Mehen, a snake-god, the board itself shaped like a coiled snake. It’s believed it may also serve as a precursor to the modern game, Snakes and Ladders, conceived when someone played Mehen... and there was a ladder. With 5000 candles on its birthday cake, Checkers/Draughts…./“Chess for divs” is one of the oldest, and simultaneously most popular board games. Carbon dated back to the ancient city of Ur in southern Mesopotamia (now called Iraq), you’ve likely played it at some point. It might not have taught you discipline, concentration or balance but it probably passed a couple of hours on a family caravanning holiday to Skegness in the 80’s. Your squeaky camp bed’s proximity to your nan on a chemical toilet did however take care of that fourth thing.... Today, the global tabletop game industry is worth around 9 billion US dollars annually. It’s been on a steady increase for several years. By 2023 it’s estimated that figure will reach 12 billion. Far from diminishing table-top games sales, the explosion of video gaming is

thought to have reinvigorated and for many, legitimised the idea of gaming in general. In the case of multi-player online games, many attracted in the wide-eyed early days were soon turned off by the gathering cesspool of toxic aggression, racism, misogyny and homophobia relative internet anonymity seems to cultivate. Check out some of the slander flying between strangers in a typical online game of Fortnite and you’ll realise Uncle Roger had it good on Boxing Day. You’re far less likely to be subjected to such hostility at one of the hundreds of popups, social groups or dedicated cafes which now bring people together over tabletop gaming, offering actual human connection in an increasingly fractured digital world. Of course for many, the mere idea of meeting up in a cafe right now is bonkers. The first week of coronavirus lockdown in the UK saw a 240% increase in jigsaw and board game sales as we desperately Scrabbled to
fill all that extra time indoors. What may have started as panic-buying has likely reminded thousands how satisfying offline entertainment can be; the tactile qualities, the common purpose which bring families and friends together laughing, cooperating, competing and occasionally calling each other cheating pricks. If the world continues its current free fall into the apocalyptic abyss, at least we’ll still be able to play Cluedo and Charades long after the power’s been cut off, the Xboxes, smartphones and smart TV’s rendered dumb. Monopoly money will be perfect for kindling the fires we’re forced to cook dead rodents on and Risk will help us train our raiding parties on other pockets of survivors -“Sorry Geoff and Dawn from no. 37, it’s everyone for themselves now and the near-feral paperboy caught in our snare told us you’ve got a pack of Hobnobs buried out back.”

POWERFUL HEALING BOOKS for the

I love reading books for several reasons. They help me to stay up to date on nutrition and wellness information, they force me to be in the moment, and they allow me to relax. Ever since we started socially isolating, I have been reading more than ever before. There are a handful of books that I have read recently (and a few that are timeless favorites) that I am constantly recommending to everyone in my life –
clients, family members, and friends alike. I figure since I learned so much from these books, that I should put them all together in a list that everyone can benefit from. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
How Not to Diet by Michael Greger, M.D. I am obsessed with Dr. Michael Greger. He is an internationally renowned nutrition expert, physician, and founder of the Nutrition Facts website. His most recent book, How Not to Diet, was published in December and it is a wealth of nutrition science information. It goes beyond food to identify twentyone weight-loss accelerators available to our bodies, incorporating the latest discoveries in cutting-edge areas like chronobiology to reveal the factors that maximize our body’s natural fat-burning capabilities. Dr. Greger builds the ultimate weight loss guide without promoting the common fad diets that so many of us fall victim to.
Food: What the Heck Should I Eat? by Mark Hyman, M.D. Dr. Mark Hyman is another physician who focuses on food as a form of preventative and reactive medicine along with more common western practices. I found Food: What the Heck Should I Eat? to be Dr. Hyman’s most comprehensive book yet. In it, he examines every food group and explains what we have gotten wrong about them. Dr. Hyman reveals which foods nurture our health and which pose a threat. From grains to legumes, meat to dairy, fats to artificial sweeteners, and beyond, Dr. Hyman debunks misconceptions and breaks down the fascinating science in his signature accessible style.

Revolution of the Soul: Awaken to Love Through Raw Truth, Radical Healing, and Conscious Action by Seane Corn In Revolution of the Soul, renowned yoga teacher and activist Seane Corn shares pivotal accounts of her life with raw honesty—enriched with in-depth spiritual teachings—to help us heal, evolve, and change the world. If you need a little inspiration or motivation right now (I sure know I do), this book is perfect for you.
Heal, by Kelly Noonan Gores Heal is based on Kelly Noonan Gores’ documentary by the same name and both are lifealtering. Heal follows two people on their healing journeys while combining science-backed research and real-world testimonials from experts like Marianne Williamson, Bruce Lipton, Deepak Chopra, Bernie Siegel, Anita Moorgani, Kelly Brogan, and many others, to offer hope and alternative treatments for the many people suffering from a variety of chronic illnesses.
Smart Plants: Power Foods & Natural Nootropics for Optimized Thinking, Focus & Memory by Julie Morris
Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds by Dr. Kelly A. Turner I read Radical Remission for the first time many years ago, but I have to include it on the list because it is very special to me. Dr. Kelly A. Turner is the founder of the Radical Remission Project, which uncovers nine factors that can lead to a spontaneous remission from cancer—even after conventional medicine has failed. As you can imagine, this book hits home for me as I had my own radical remission from cancer.
I always recommend New York Times bestselling author Julie Boris’ book Smart Plants to my clients who struggle with focus and memory lapses, mental fog, or stress. Boris’ groundbreaking book reveals the dietary secrets to better brain performance. It combines scientific research with the wisdom of ancient remedies, and it showcases an exciting array of cognition-enhancing plants—from everyday foods to natural nootropics (edibles that can improve memory, learning, and problem-solving).
Dr. Turner was pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of California Berkley when she was shocked to discover that no one was studying episodes of radical remission—when people recover against all odds without the help of conventional medicine, or after conventional medicine has failed. Her book follows her journey around the world as she traveled to ten different countries to interview fifty holistic healers and twenty radical remission cancer survivors about their healing practices and techniques.
Even if you are someone who simply wants to optimize your mental performance and protect your brain health, this book is for you.
I believe that everyone should read this book – regardless of whether or not cancer has touched your life.
Medical Medium Cleanse to Heal by Anthony William In Cleanse to Heal, Anthony William, the Medical Medium, has placed a vast wealth of insight and information into a one-stop resource for cleansing of all kinds, starting with his acclaimed nine-day 3:6:9 Cleanse and expanding into life-saving protocols for specific health needs-including an anti-bug cleanse, a morning cleanse, and a heavy metal detox. We are all in need of cleansing – especially at such an unprecedented time as this one. This book explains the best methods for cleansing and includes explanations for why cleansing is so integral to overall health.

want to change?
When you look outward into the world and you see the crowds and how they are, you see the news and what we do, you watch your own family and see the state they are in. Are you impressed or embarrassed? Do you think we are doing a good job overall or do you feel despair? Do you think things are just “the way they are”? Do you even care?
Do you think you could help change things or do you just accept them and repress whatever problems they are causing you personally? Maybe you feel so helpless that you tend to put your head back in the sand and try and simply ignore what’s going on. The big question is: Is the mind-tickling digital world a fulfilling enough distraction for you to bear what’s happening around you in the physical world? We are physical beings after all. Are you happy to spend your time, predominantly in the mind? How does that make you feel! Our parents before us knew we needed to change as a society and they tried everything they could think of; they voted, protested, picketed, petitioned and riotted. They achieved little, nothing really changed, at least not in the way they had hoped for. We were forced to face the abyss of helplessness in the early 2000’s when over a million of us took to the streets of London to represent our communities and families against the war on Iraq. We didn’t want the country we live in, to wage war on Iraq. Plain and simple. They had done nothing to us and we didn’t believe the narrative about Saddam Hussein and his WMD’s.
One million people. Imagine that. That’s a lot of people. One million people told the one hundred or so British government bods that we don’t want to go to war with Iraq that day. There was no confusion, no garbled messages, and we didn’t send a letter, we went directly, in person to Westminster and we told them. One million Britons told 100 Britons not to do something in our name and they did it anyway, and then got away with it without repercussions. It was an astounding result. I often wonder how many poor Iraqi citizens had their lives either ended or destroyed at the hands of those arrogant commanders that we shared a country with at the time. The lack of virtue and authenticity of our infrastructure became evident that year and the value of the way we do things as a whole came into question strongly. Any remaining trust, hope or belief we may have had in the existing status quo had been destroyed by the actions of our own government and the psychological support structure that holds up our fragile systems cracked more severely than ever before.
FEEL-GOOD FACTOR
We wanted change and we still do, more strongly than ever, but the more we whinged or tried to take action, the more the system seemed to tighten up in a defensive response. It has been tough and it still is.
Although it may be good news in the long run. As we allow more impositions, our very freedom comes into question. This only makes us individually more determined than ever to see change, and consequently more people will find the way that works. And let’s be clear, there is only one method that truly works.
Real change begins at home. You’ve got to change yourself first. Many spiritually adepts have told us this in the past and many of us have now concluded for ourselves; If we want to change the world, we have to change ourselves first.
As Jiddhu Krishnamurti told us clearly, “If we would bring about a sane and happy society we must begin with ourselves and not with another, not outside of ourselves, but within ourselves.”
Changing ourselves is not essential so that we can perceive the world differently ie. with rose-tinted glasses or in a haze of incense-fuelled meditation. It is so that we can influence our own environment. When we make enough personal changes, we begin to transform. We reveal higher versions of ourselves and we become worthy of being an influence on others. Then those around us willingly allow themselves to change. They are not being sold to or argued with. They see, feel, sample, suspect or get a sense of the benefits for themselves and then consent to change, voluntarily - this is the only lasting type of change. Real change is instigated by each individual who is changing rather than the influencer, although they are not unconscious of it. In fact, the influencer is very aware of the process and this enables them to encourage change by restraining their input, rather than hindering it with excess pressure or persuasion.
And Osho highlighted, “It is not a question of creating a different world. It is only a question of creating a different you.”
Changing yourself begins with your root, your foundation – the physical body. In order to change or sublimate some of the more subtle things we go through like anger, fear, resentment, frustration, hostility, jealousy, helplessness, hopelessness, depression, monkey mind, blocked heart etc. we must first heighten the senses of our physical body with a combination of quality nutrition and attention. This helps us find the route inward, to our interior - where all the good stuff happens. As we transform, so does our world around us. The people closest to us begin to allow change in their own lives and they transform, changing the world around them and so on and so on. We call it the ripple effect. This is how to change the world and you get the benefit of a deeper appreciation of life, full of love and purpose. And as Mingyur Rinpoche points out, it’s much less stressful to change yourself before changing the world,
“Wanting to reform the world without discovering
one’s true self is like trying to cover the world with leather to avoid the pain of walking on stones and thorns. It is much simpler to wear shoes”!

How to Enjoy Cannabinoids this Summer!
Creating your Signature TLE Cocktails
CBD is only one of the cannabinoids that is present in the cannabis plant, there are actually 152 known to date, including THC the one that gets you high. CBD is a recognised by the World Health Organisation as having health benefits due to the way that it responds to our endocannabinoid system! We have receptors that are present throughout our body that react to the phytocannabinoids that are in the plant. These help our body regulate and function normally and control three main
One of the most fun ways of enjoying CBD is by adding it to cocktails. This is not the first time that users have added CBD to a delicious beverage or food, but it definitely one of the most exciting!
To have a delicious CBD cocktail, it is important to mix the right ingredients! We have selected some other cannabis infused alcoholic beverages that can enhance your cannabis themed cocktail celebration.
Do not panic creating a delicious CBD cocktail is easy and you and your guests can enjoy these in the privacy of your own home! With a few key ingredients, you will be able to create your own impressive cocktails and enjoy them whenever you get a craving! Summer in Marbella has just got even cooler!
Depending on the recipe, you’re going to need a handful of unique ingredients, however, you are obviously going to need some CBD. There are two main types of CBD product that you can use in the
FEEL-GOOD FACTOR
cocktails, and these include CBD oil and water soluble CBD.
CBD Sparkling Summer Sangria
CBD Gin & Tonic
Not all CBD products are the same for example oil-based ones such as our own TLE tincture will most probably float to the top of the drink and not mix completely in with the alcohol. Watersoluble CBD products will blend with the alcohol, due to the fact that they are made to be absorbed easily with liquids.
HERE ARE TLE’S FAVORITE CRAZY CANNABINOID COCKTAILS If you are going to make this a truly great occasion, then some thought has to go into the purchase of the ingredients. Take a trip to the local organic market to buy the ripest juiciest strawberries and citrus fruits that the Mediterranean has to offer. These also good for you and help to stimulate the cannabinoids bringing a symphony of feelings and flavours. There are some great cannabis brands that have launched with alcoholic beverages, these are also non psychedelic and are a great introduction to cannabis and its unique flavour. We love to use MUHU Gin which was launched by a fellow Londoner this year which infuses Gin with CBD enhancing the flavour and improving the benefits to our cool G&T! You can easily purchase online at muhu.co.uk and get your cannabinoid taste buds driven to a frenzy!
Ingredients
Ingredients:
Dvine Gran Reserva
1 tbsp Fresh Lemon
4 tbsp of Brandy
4 tbsp of MUHU Gin
Fresh fruits (lime, oranges, watermelon, strawberries & berries)
1/3 a glass of tonic water
2 tbsp Honey 9 drops of TLE CBD oil In a large pitcher, combine brandy, fresh fruits and honey. Squeeze juice from one lime and one orange half into the pitcher. Stir and add one bottle of Dvine Gran Reserva!
In a wine glass, combine the MUHU Gin, lemon juice, and tonic water. Top with ice. Arrange aromatics in the drink in an aesthetically-pleasing fashion. Float TLE CBD oil on top.
Finally add 9 drops of TLE CBD to start the fun!
Loving to use unique and locally produced products, we have recommended Dvine Mist which is a cava that is produced in Spain by a company called Bio-Terps. This sparkling wine is infused with terpenes which like cannabinoids give certain health benefits and enhance the flavour. We have chosen to use the Gran Reserva as it uses one of our favourite CBD strains Charlottes Web, and gives a unique flavour to our signature sangria. The easiest way to purchase is online at www.dvinemist.com there are lots f crazy flavours to choose from! These past months have been challenging for all of us lets make the most of summer by creating a calm and cool cannabinoid themed affair! Hope you enjoy making these as much as we have!

Only in Puerto Banus would a dental clinic look like AAURA Dental Clinic. With 3 additional clinics under the Mark Dental brand, two specialising in general dentistry and one in advanced oral surgery, Mark Dental clinic is a name we know and trust on the Costa del Sol and Dr. Sam Mark’s latest launch continues to honour those traditions but with the added bonus of stunning sea views and an unbeatable location. Plus, AAURA Beauty and Wellness below means that a visit to the dentist, becomes more like a visit to a dental spa than a trip to the doctors. Imagine enjoying a massage before your implant surgery or complementing your dentist appointment with Botox or fillers, as we said… only in Marbella! Despite being busier than ever during lockdown, we managed to steal a few minutes of Dr. Sam Mark’s time to hear all about the new clinic first-hand and learn a little more about what he believes has contributed to his success.
You have achieved great success on the coast, but how would you define success? In my profession, I believe success is truly defined by your patients. Happy patients mean more recommendations, which leads to continuous growth. In the dental profession, recommendations really are the ‘golden ticket’ to success. Prior to opening AAURA Dental we have never had a need to use social media, we decided to launch an Instagram account for this premises to showcase the setting and attract the Instagram generation, but before this, it was never needed to generate business. Our patients are the greatest advertisement, and this is what I would consider a success.

How are you implementing changes to protect your team and your patients during the coronavirus pandemic?

To be honest, not a lot has changed for us as being a surgical clinic we already have the highest standards of hygiene, we sanitize everything using alcohol and ensure we follow supreme hygiene standards at all times. With regards to meeting with patients, we have kept up to date with the new protocols and adopted all requirements to protect the safety of our team and patients.
If you could attribute one thing to your success, what would it be? Patience and honesty. Why you may ask? In this industry you are dependent on other people, on the technician creating the teeth, on patients understanding the expectations etc. So, you need to have patience in order to deal with all the elements of the experience, to manage everything and to create an overall pain and stressfree experience for your patients. Plus, you have to be honest with your patients to maintain respect and mutual understanding. What is the most common type of cosmetic dentistry your clinic performs? At AAURA Dental Clinic, we focus on dental implant surgery. For anyone that is unsure what this involves, it is installing a dental implant into the jawbone to be able to anchor a future tooth in any gaps. How come you decided to focus on implant surgery? I know my strengths, and while I feel like I am at the top of my profession in many aspects of dentistry, implant surgery requires you to visualize the end result, which is my strength. In addition to this I am also an extremely clean, effective surgeon meaning I can complete surgery or any other dental treatment in a much quicker time, yet still to the highest standard. Life feels hard and as if it’s working against you, and this of course only leads to more and more frustration and struggle.
Life can be lived in a totally different way, in a harmonious way. It’s only when we’re in disharmony with life itself that things get out of balance.
Living in opposition to the natural current of life also breeds resentment and bitterness if the person doesn’t take charge of their life but instead, simply accepts the status quo, falsely believing that that’s how life is supposed to be.
Relationships doesn’t have to be unhealthy; we don’t have to feels stuck and stagnated in life or be paralyzed with worry and fear. There is no need to struggle and suffer through life.
The conditioned self-manifests fear, lack, and limitations It always creates some kind of suffering, while a shift in identity back to your original state allows you to live your life as an empowered human being. A sure sign you’re out of alignment with yourself and life, is when you experience some kind of lack.
62
It can be a lack of joy, a lack of fun, lack of passion or purpose and meaning.
Those are all indicators that life is calling you back home into alignment again.
In essence, when you feel unhappy or dissatisfied with your life in some way, shape or form, that’s a sign that you’ve come out of sync with yourself.
That’s how the universe lets you know that you have strayed away (or got lost) from your true path.
FEEL-GOOD FACTOR
One sure way to know if you are out of sync with the universe is by tuning into your intuition and gut-feeling and by becoming aware of the energy around you.
The moment the energy starts to feel bad, negative or ‘off’ somehow, that’s an indication that you’re moving out of alignment, or that something or someone that does not belong with you has entered into your energy space. You can also get this sense if you are focusing on the wrong things, meaning; if you’re doing, thinking or focusing on things that are not in alignment with you.
Living in alignment with the flow is about living in harmony with yourself and the Universe Flow alignment gives you emotional and mental well-being. It allows you to live with connectedness, effortlessness and ease, and have inner peace as well as being able to relax and actually enjoy the unfolding of your life. Alignment is when you move through life feeling calm and confident no matter what is going on, on the outside. Being in sync like this takes away pressure, stress and resistance; it falls away as you plug yourself into the universal flow. It deepens your connection with yourself and your relationship with the Universe and helps you live with ease instead of stress and struggle. This does not exclude times of intense work though, or that you will never encounter challenges again in your life! It just means you follow the energy of your own life’s flow, and that you live in accordance with your own individuality, listening to your own inner voice instead of what others or the world expects of you. No one needs to live with stress, fear, and worry, or lack. Those are all things we have learned, but they are not true and can be unlearned.
With increased awareness about these things you will quickly be able to make a new choice right then and there and shift towards that which is more aligned with you. To get back into the flow again, bring your focus back to the present moment, take a moment to tune into your intuitive sense, and make a new choice that honours the signals you receive. Become clear about what is most important to you (clarify your values and intentions), and when you are, things will fall into place for you and life will begin to work in a much more peaceful manner. The more aware you become about the energy of others, the more aware you also become when it comes to your own focus. And as soon as you get centred back to yourself, that’s when flow comes back and things starts to work and work out for you again.
We have the ability to unhook ourselves from that which brings us suffering.

Warner Brothers meets Marbella
Wow! Time has flown by! It has now been a year since I finished filming Key to Success with Warner Brothers Production. Three weeks of shooting 24 hours a day for the 10-episode series, to be shown on Scandinavian National Television – hard work but great fun. The program was in line with Donald Trump’s and Sir Alan Sugar’s The Apprentice; 12 young candidates, who had been chosen out of 860 applications, arrived in Marbella to stay in a luxury villa together with total strangers and no mobile phones - an issue which proved very hard for them all. Serious romances and strong friendships developed, which continued after the filming. After completing various tests, the chosen candidate ended up with a one-year contract as a trainee real estate broker at my firm International Marbella. The screening of the show premiered in Autumn 2019 with a Christmas Final. The show was extremely well received by the public and had a following of viewers of all ages. Originally shown on Scandinavian TV3, it can now be viewed on Dplay. As a result, we had Lilly set to join our Team in March 2020 but as COVID-19 popped its head, the contract has been delayed until the Summer.

International Marbella is looking forward to Lilly joining our Sales Team in July. Not only have Lilly’s dreams come true, but fellow candidate Josefine also found an internship with a local real estate firm enabling her to finish her Real Estate University Degree. It has been a pleasure to help young ambitious individuals by giving them the opportunity to experience Key to Success. I wish I could have offered them all a job, as they are worked extremely hard and showed promising talent.

VIEW FROM THE TOP WE ATTENDED…
the exclusive launch event for The View Marbella in collaboration with Bilba and Wilma Sierra Blanca.
WE ADMIRED…
the plans for the luxury apartments boasting panoramic views of the Golf Valley and the Malaga coastline. The design and composition of each apartment has been adapted following the coronavirus pandemic with generous rooms and spaces designed to offer flexibility for a multitude of uses from working from home, play areas for children or as home exercise spaces.
WE WERE IMPRESSED BY…
the announcement that the architectural design of the project is prepared to meet the demands of the ´new normal´. The new construction system used is believed to improve the building process in terms of quality, sustainability and speed, reducing completion times by 25%.
CONGRATULATIONS AND A BIG THANKS TO…
Wilma Sierra Blanca, Bilba and the Mayor of Benahavis, José Antonio Mena who laid the ´first stone´. We wish you all the best for your continued success with The View.

Let’s Save a Little Water for Everyone BY AMOS WEMANYA Experts say keeping good hygiene would reduce the risk of transmitting and contracting the COVID-19. Indeed clean water is our first line of defence during this time of turbulence. Access to clean water is a basic human right and no one should fear losing their life because they couldn’t practice the first line of defence, which is hand washing. Kenya faces difficulty in water supply.

Majority of Kenyans do not have access to clean water. However, this is not the time to live everything as deprivation. This is the time to promote solidarity through sharing the little resources we have. This crisis needs community more than ever and we need to do what is reasonable to keep everyone safe. Recognizing that if there is a shortage of water for communities it will be difficult to get water to wash our hands. Given the importance of handwashing in preventing the spread of this virus, there is a need for increased water-saving and sharing. To save water, let’s start by breaking the unfavourable habits of leaving water taps running needlessly while washing our hands or when washing dishes. In addition, let’s fix all the leaks in our homes. This could save a lot of water that would have gone to
ate r for
waste. Let’s also shorten our showers. Alternatively, one can install a low flow showerhead. This will help save water for everyone. We can strive to ensure that everyone has access to water during and after this time of the virus to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. In addition, it is unfortunate that water pollution is a rising issue of concern in Kenya. This pollution is largely caused by disposal of solid waste, sewage especially in the urban areas and discharge of untreated industrial waste. There is a need to stop water pollution to save the little water we have for everyone. If there is no access to clean water, the situation could worsen. Without clean water many Kenyans will be pushed to use polluted water for hand washing. The polluted water has the potential to cause more diseases instead of preventing the
all virus. Government agencies responsible for restoring water service to homes where water has been disconnected need to do so quickly. Additionally, there is a need to install public hand-washing stations to serve everyone that may be experiencing water shortages in their homes. As we all work to curb the spread of the virus, it is important that everyone has access to water for hand-washing, personal hygiene, and cleaning. Let’s all be water conscious. This is an effective way to save water. Use water wisely so that everyone can enjoy access and prevent the spread.

MOTORING AUTHOR, RACING DRIVER AND PHOTO-JOURNALIST IAN KUAH REPORTS ON THE
BMW X7
101
TORQUE TALK
BMW’s flagship SUV is a veritable comfort zone BMW’s X7 concept car has been doing the motor show circuit for about two years, during which time we have slowly become accustomed to its huge physical size and exaggerated grille. Now with the production X7 finally on real world roads the true scale of BMW’s flagship SUV is apparent. “Right at the beginning we asked ourselves if the X7 should be a longer X5 or a 7-Series SUV,” explained X7 Project Leader, Dr. Jörg Wunder. “Because extreme comfort in a flagship product was our goal, the decision quickly veered more towards the 7-Series SUV idea.” “To put this in context, while the 5-Series saloon is a great long distance car that can cross continents effortlessly, a 7-Series will always be more comfortable and stress-free,” he continued. “The X7 has the same relationship with the X5, and while the latest X5 has a seven-seat option, we aimed to turn the standard third seat row on the X7 into a real world comfort zone.” To underpin the sense of ultimate SUV luxury the X7 has air suspension as standard. Beyond that the IAS rear wheel steering and active anti-roll stabilisation, which help to make the car feel more agile and indeed ‘smaller’ on the road. These are standard on the V8-powered X7 xDrive 50i in the US and optional on the entry-level six-cylinder X7 xDrive 40i.
They are also optional on the 30d and M50d diesel models that will the staple models in Europe. “The 4WD system has very versatile electronic control with specific programming for Sand, Gravel, Snow and Rocks,” says Jörg. “While X7 owners will not likely use most of the vehicle’s off-road ability, beyond driving up to their ranch or cabin in the mountains, such intrinsic capability is expected of a proper SUV, and provides support for less experienced drivers.” “At the start of the development programme we were not sure if the sixcylinder petrol motor was refined enough, and indeed strong enough for such a vehicle,” Jörg recalled. “However, as we have a double firewall for thermal and acoustic insulation refinement proved not to be an issue. If anything engine noise was not the issue here as the keen driver expects to hear the exhaust more than the engine under hard acceleration.” As road and tyre noise are stressful over distance, insulation from extraneous road borne noise was given top priority.
“We went the extra mile to remove tyre rotational noise and vibrations from the road,” Jörg explained. “For instance during our work to optimise the suspension for the spread of 20, 21 and 22-inch wheels we found a slight vibration emanating from the front suspension as a result of a
resonance. The cure was to drill a small hole in the wishbones on each side to attach a 1.0kg steel mass damper that effectively moved this resonance frequency outside discernible levels.” Another refinement that aids cabin isolation is acoustic double-glazing all round, while the electronically actuated sound flap exhaust goes quiet in Comfort mode and takes on a more aggressive tone when you engage Sport mode for the drivetrain. That is the driver’s choice. Thanks to good proportions it is not that easy to discern the X7s actual physical size from a distance unless there is another vehicle or object of familiar size next to it. Certainly the standard 8.5J x 20inch wheels and 275/50R20 tyres help to visually balance the cars proportions.

The X7 is 230mm longer than the X5 on a 100mm longer wheelbase, with the extra length concentrated aft of the B-pillar. “The only exterior parts the X7 shares with the X5 are the door mirror cap mouldings, so it really is an all-new car in terms of exterior cladding,” said Jörg. “Once you start delving under the skin you find more common parts,” he continued. “For instance the front door innards are similar to the X5 and clad with new door skins, but the longer rear doors are bespoke.” There is no escaping that exaggerated front grille and massive air intakes in the front bumper that deliver an aggressive front with real autobahn overtaking presence.
T H O S E I N TA K E S C E R TA I N LY L O O K C A PA B L E O F H O O V E R I N G UP DOMESTIC ANIMALS WHEN THE X7 IS ON THE P R O W L I N TO W N . Meanwhile, the big, bluff nose seems to defy the reasonable 0.34 drag coefficient, although you have to bear in mind the 3.0 sq. m frontal area. The X7 is a master of the disciplines that define a luxury vehicle, particularly in its cabin, which is spacious, comfortable, refined, and blessed with extremely low levels of wind and road noise. Drivers of the current generation X5 will be familiar with the instrument pack, infotainment system, and the heating and air-conditioning controls, which
are very similar. The fact that they are in keeping with the status of the larger and more expensive X7 speaks volumes for the design integrity and sheer quality of the X5 interior. The stitched leather on the dashboard top roll, aluminium trim around the classy wood inserts in the centre console and general premium look and feel of all the cabin fittings are exactly what you expect of a flagship SUV at this level. The optional two-tone leather on our test cars was absolutely gorgeous and of very high quality, with the perforated leather centre panels facilitating both heating and fan cooling. Many of the features we have already seen in the new X5’s cabin are repeated here but some options are standard on the X7. The crystal glass gearknob, induction charger for a mobile phone in the centre console, and cup holders with cooling and heating are just some of these. While this latter feature has been seen before this is the first time that you can cool one and heat the other in tandem. Train spotters should note that the mobile phone induction charger is aligned east-west in cars with the heating/cooling cup holder feature and north-south in those with it. Versatility is the name of the game in the cavernous interior. The difference between six and seven-seat configurations lies in the centre row where you can specify either two individual seats or a bench seat for three. Folding the seats is the work of opening the split tailgate and pressing the buttons on the side of the rear compartment to activate the automatic folding mechanism. The lower section of the powered tailgate can carry up to 150kg allowing two people to use it as a seat. The full-length glass panorama roof is another great feature. Because the X7 has a third row of seats, the glass roof with its motorised sliding cover has a smaller section over the rear seats too, and the air-conditioning has a fifth zone covering the third seat row. The Bowers & Wilkins 3D audio system has additional roof mounted speakers for a more realistic sound field. With the third seat row folded flat the boot holds 326 litres of cargo, and with all the seats folded the cargo area will swallow a massive 2,120 litres, significantly more than any estate car on sale today.

Given its sheer size and weight there is no way that the X7 is going to feel as agile as its smaller siblings, but that was never the deal. As a car like the X7 is more a chauffeur driven luxury conveyance, particularly in China and the Middle East, its passenger cossetting qualities are far more important than any perceived fun for the keen driver. In suspension hardware terms the single chamber air suspension is similar to the optional system on the X5, but with some additional components and bespoke control mapping. The ride height drops 20mm in Sport mode for a lower centre of gravity. Combined with the IAS rear steering and active anti-roll bars this makes a palpable difference to agility on a twisty road with ride comfort hardly compromised.
the active anti-roll bar system. Both are also offered on the six-cylinder but were not fitted to our 40i test car, so we were able to compare and contrast the difference these systems make. The IAS certainly shrinks this big car around you and at times it felt no harder to conduct than an X5, defying the sheer physics quite convincingly. There are limits however, and what this much larger and heavier car cannot do is hurtle round bends and stop like an X5. But as JĂśrg rightly says, “It is not that kind of car.â€?
There were plenty of dips and long wave undulations on the open roads on our test route from Las Vegas to Los Angeles that took in the Death Valley area, and the X7s body control and composure was quite impressive when negotiating these at speed. This was especially so on the 50i with the active anti-roll bar system. The combined effect of the active handling assistance systems is particularly apparent from the rear seat of the X7 40i from where the physical effects of the steering inputs by the driver were felt more keenly than in the 50i.
Our X7 50i test car was fitted with optional IAS (Integral Active Steering) rear-wheelsteering, and

TORQUE TALK
As you would expect of a car vying for a top spot in the rarefied air of luxury SUVs the X7 provides a cossetting secondary ride that soothes away bumps at low speeds. The isolation from road noise and tyre thump is also impressive and makes for a very serene ride. As the X7 is tall with a high ground clearance we were surprised to learn that the side steps are not standard. “They are standard on the M Sport package but are otherwise optional,” Jörg explained. As the car can be lowered 40mm at the touch of a button inside the tailgate to aid loading some people think the steps are not required, but that is a personal thing. The V8 motor in the X7 xDrive 50i is by far the more natural partner for the X7, its effortless torque conferring a palpable sense of the waftability so important to effortless progress. It can punch the 50i to 100km/h in 5.4 sec but it is the general feeling of boundless thrust from its 650Nm of torque from 1,500rpm that makes the 4.4 litre twin-turbo V8 so appealing Despite the double bulkheads that help
106 106
to prevent unseemly mechanical noises from permeating the calm of the cabin you can still hear a faint V8 growl from up front on full throttle.
BUT SINCE AN ENGINE BEFITTING A CAR OF THIS S TAT U S N E E D S TO H A V E A U R A L G R A V I TA S T H I S I S NO BAD THING. The TwinPower Turbo 3.0 litre six-cylinder motor has 340hp from 5,500 to 6,500rpm and 450Nm of torque between 1,500 and 5,200rpm that generates a decently brisk 6.1 sec 0-100km/h time. But in the luxury world how numbers are achieved is arguably more important, and on that basis the 3.0 litre six, normally a brilliant engine in a much smaller and lighter vehicle, just scrapes over the adequate line here. While it is a smooth and willing engine the straight six soundtrack is more polite than powerful, and its mere 450Nm is not going to set the world alight when asked to haul 2,395kg (EU) with any sense of urgency.
A straight six has certain harmonics that need taming with a dual chamber rear exhaust silencer. From the rear seat those harmonics are detectable at some engine speeds, so the six is simply outclassed by the V8 in this application. While both engines will be available in the US market, Europe and Asia will only get the 40i at first, with the V8 following at some point down the road. However, European markets will receive two 3.0 litre turbo diesel variants, the 265hp 30d, and 400hp M50d with a thumping 620Nm and 760Nm torque output respectively. The M50d matches the 5.4 sec 0-100km/ h sprint of the 50i while using 40% less fuel. It will thus be the perfect balance between driveability and fuel economy for most people. On the wide US highways and byways, even a car the size of the X7 feels relatively compact compared to the hulking Chevy Suburban and Ford F150 that ply the roads. On much smaller European roads the X7 is outsized, and using multi-storey car parks where even an X5 is too big is a non-starter.

COSTA CUISINE
Home Delivery for the Discerning Diner
As a child you dream of toys, beaches and ice cream vans. As an adult, if I could describe my dream it would be enjoying my favourite food in the world tucked up in my cosy bed at home. So, when I was asked to complete my most recent assignment, for a moment, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
Great food might not be the cure to the world’s ills, but Nobu is certainly a treatment to try. 110
Nobu are offering takeaway. Yes, you heard that right. Don’t worry, I had to confirm it also. So, you’re saying I can sample Soft Shell Crab Sushi, Black Cod Miso, Wagyu Beef Spicy Ponzu Tacos and Lobster Cerviche from the comfort of my own home; hair-up, pyjamas on, no need to find a babysitter? How is this my job? Available Wednesday to Sunday from 7.30pm to 11.30pm Nobu Marbella offer a divine selection of their a la carte menu straight to your door. Yes, it is slightly more limited than their in-house offering but there is still plenty of choice, with delights such as seasonal Scallops, Foie and Vanilla Miso, Roasted Branzino with Chili Shiso Salsa, Yellowtail Jalapeño and Lobster Wasabi Pepper making the cut, along with a large array of Kushiyaki skewers, Nigiri, Sashimi and Maki. You can even wash down your Spicy Tuna with Sake or a Japanese beer. I nibbled on Spicy Edamame and Miso Chips with Truffle whilst I took it all in. The team let me go wild with the menu, and wild I went. Starting with Lobster Cerviche on Lettuce, Baby Spinach Salad Dry Miso, Tiradito and Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna, I planned to eat my body weight in Nobu’s creations. You always worry with a takeaway that it won’t taste quite like it does in the restaurant, but I can safely say, they excelled in every way. If you’re looking to kick up the spice levels a few notches, the very shareable Peruvian sashimi dish, Tiradito is topped with spicy sauce, yuzu, salt, and coriander and highly recommended.
Of course, I couldn’t not try the signature Black Cod, this is a dish that holds a special place in my heart and as always, even having travelled the 10 minutes along the coast to be with me, it was as spectacular as ever; rich, buttery and worth every cent of the 42€ price tag. If you are yet to try this, you haven’t lived. I am yet to find someone who doesn’t rave about the Black Cod the moment the word Nobu is uttered from their lips. I followed this with an obligatory selection of the sushi; from the Yellowtail to the delicious mackerel, it was an assortment to be proud of, and my taste buds were highly impressed. In addition to the classics, there are some local additions to the menu including Padron Peppers den Miso putting a twist on a local Mediterranean favourite. All in all, the food is what you’d expect from Nobu: superior quality, identifiable, clean, and to the same standard you would enjoy within the venue itself.

So, I can confirm, community spirit, gratitude and Nobu’s decision to turn to takeout; it’s official, these are the three greatest things to come out of lockdown! Great food might not be the cure to the world’s ills, but Nobu is certainly a treatment to try. marbella.nobuhotels.com @nobumarbella

How to Eat Healthy ON A BUDGET I have heard it a million times before, people still believe that going organic, eating plant based, or moving towards a generally healthier diet is too expensive. Trust me, I get it. But here is the deal; transitioning to a healthier way of eating really doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg.
Bettina, our resident healthy travel foodie, will give us tips on hidden gems in places across the globe. Food has become such a big part of travel that peole will spend hours scouring the best places to stay and eat. Here are some insider tips.
Despite what the health industry might have you believe, it certainly doesn’t have to involve a bunch of expensive ‘superfoods’ and powders that in the end only gather dust in your cupboards! Over the years, I have learned a trick or two for eating healthier on a budget, and with some smart moves eating more healthily
might even save you a few pennies! Read on for my ultimate guide to healthy eating on a budget. My tried and tested tips to eat healthily without breaking the bank.
Make your Own Plant Milks
Nut milk can be expensive to buy fresh (or impossible, if you don’t have anywhere locally that buys and sells their own). Even the long life variety in cartons and cans are either expensive or contain nasty additives, sugars, and preservatives that you don’t need. Making your own is a far cheaper option and much easier than you might think. Coconut milk can be cheap to make, and of the nut and seed varieties almond, cashew and sunflower seed are usually the most economical.
Eat More Veggies!
I always find a reason to advocate extra veggies! But it’s true, eating more vegetables is not only good for your health, it’s also great for your wallet. The high fibre and nutritionally dense nature of fruits and vegetables mean you can fill up on them and stay satiated for less money. Look for in-season produce, it’s cheaper than buying imported or out-of-season vegetables – plus they are more nutritious and taste better too!
112
Buy in Bulk
Nuts, seeds and specialised flours can be expensive when bought in small amounts so buy in bulk to save money in the long run. Find a wholesaler that sells in larger quantities and then just store everything in airtight containers and jars to keep it fresh. In the Marbella area check out La Campana, the Marbella poligono and as far as Malaga industrial area for companies that sell in bulk.
COSTA CUISINE
Buy Seasonal, Local & Preferably Organic
It can be a little more effort to hunt out a place local to you selling organic, seasonal produce, but if you can make the effort, it really is worth it. Find a weekend farmers market in your area and make it a ritual to visit – make a morning of it, it’s a lovely tradition to have with friends and children. Learn to eat eat smaller quantities of good quality produce over more oaf the not-so-good stuff. Buy things like tomatoes in bulk, make a batch of sauce and freeze. Strawberry season? Freeze them in portions and use for smoothies all year round.
Use Dry Beans & Pulses Over Canned
You’ll need to soak and cook them first, but the little extra effort will be rewarded with superior flavour and more product for less money. Cook up big bean casseroles, soups, stews, hummus, and dips to use throughout the week. I like to bulk boil two to three different varieties of beans and pulses and freeze in portion sizes so that I always have them on hand to grab when I need them.
Batch Cook
Expanding on an earlier point - batch cooking is your friend! I’ve gotten into the habit of cooking in bulk at the weekend, that way, if I get home late from work and just can’t be bothered cooking, I have a healthy meal ready to go. You can store in the fridge for use during the week or freeze in portions. This always sways me from defaulting to a takeaway, which would be the easier option if I hadn’t planned ahead. This is also a great method to have perfected for when you have hungry kids who want food NOW! Just whip out a healthy stew, reheat, and you have happy kids full up on good stuff!
Keep it Simple!
Don’t go overboard with adding toppings and extra ingredients and don’t go crazy buying specialised ingredients in the health shops. I know the nice packaging and health promises are tempting but you can make some really delicious, healthy meals with a few basic ingredients. It’s so much cheaper and makes your healthy lifestyle more sustainable, too.
