Mark My Words Highly acclaimed dental surgeon Dr Sam Mark shares a family-run practice with his brother Soheil Mark. Sam comes from a close-knit Persian family, spending his formative years in Sweden where he studied dentistry. He later went on to work in London, and was recently offered the position of head surgeon in a dental hospital in Doha, Qatar. Although the road to success was strenuous, Sam’s passion and enthusiasm for his profession is the driving force behind his progress, helping him get to where he is today. Sam’s success continues to grow as he opens new clinics across the Costa del Sol and Europe.
24
What sets AAura Dental and Mark Dental apart from other dental practices? I think what sets us apart from other dental practices is the personal attention I give my clients and how I thrive to provide the absolute best work for my patients. This has resulted in strong recommendations as I offer an extremely personalised service, and I put a lot of attention into everything I do. On top of that, I’m extremely good at my job and people want the best when it comes to their teeth which makes for a strong combination.
How has your clinic adapted to the changes brought on by the pandemic? The way we have adapted to the pandemic is not that different from before to be honest because a dental clinic always has to be sterile and clean with or without a pandemic. Perhaps the only change is that people are more careful about where they go and who they see, so to answer your question the only addition is our clients and receptionist wearing a mask whilst in the waiting area.
Why do you think Europeans do not prioritise dental care to the same level that other countries do, for example the United States? I think dentistry is seen differently in North America than in Europe. Over there, people desire to have a smile makeover like the Hollywood stars. The US is all about sales, and the way you look, perhaps, shows that you are successful, whereas in Europe we may see success differently. It’s far more superficial in the US, which is why people pay more attention to the teeth, which makes a huge difference in everyday life of course.
Why did you choose dentistry? My father chose it for me as it runs in family. I studied dentistry in Gothenburg and here I am. I didn’t take to it instantly however, the first few years was tough, but I grew into it and now I feel my passion shines through my work.
What services do you specialise in? What is your favourite aspect of the job? My speciality is implant surgeries and advanced surgeries, that’s really where my strength lies. While I enjoy the diversity of the profession, surgery is what I do every day as I am an expert at it.
“What I am most proud of is that my patients have enough confidence in me to come back, allowing me to grow and open new dental clinics”. With more people opting for aesthetic dentistry what do you see as the next trend for Marbella molars? I think the next trend for young adults, who want to change their teeth, is Invisalign. That being said, I also have many people coming to me for a smile makeover. Honestly speaking, if I don’t think it’s right, I won’t do it. You have to work on “I think the teeth, which means Invisalign is you have to glue the teeth, grind away at it, the future and and that causes some has changed the damage. So, if I have a market. Aesthetics young adult that comes and function must do you like to wind down with a crooked smile go hand in hand...” How but has nice teeth, I when you’re not working? wouldn’t do veneers or crowns on them, I recommend them to I go to the gym, and I play basketball have Invisalign. I think Invisalign is the or sometimes I just have some time future and has changed the market. for myself. I’m surrounded by people Aesthetics and function must go hand ten hours a day, if it’s not the people in hand, otherwise, it simply doesn’t working around me, it’s my patients. work in the mouth. I’m in continuous communication all the time, so sometimes it is nice to just Can you tell us about the proudest moment be quiet for a while.
in your life? My proudest moment is when I had my baby boy, Damien, and seeing him grow into a loving child. In my professional life I don’t think there is just one proud moment. What I am most proud of is that my patients have enough confidence in me to come back, allowing me to grow and open new dental clinics. In this profession in Marbella the community is very small. The most important thing is doing everything in a good, healthy, and correct way so that people recommend you and choose to come back to you.
You are known for your charity endeavours, are you planning any further charity work in the near future? We are, we did a lot of charity work before the pandemic but more recently it has been impossible, or at least a lot harder, to travel. As soon as the borders are open, and we can move freely, we are going back to Peru. We have been there once before with a team of plastic surgeons and as soon as we can we will do it again.
What is something you wish you knew when you started working in the dental industry? Things change all the time and even if you keep up with the developing technology everyone is unique, their teeth are different, their perception of pain is different, and their expectations are different. So, if I knew everything I wouldn’t be where I am now. I must adapt and understand that out of ten patients that come in five of them are totally different, some of them think the same but expect a different result. Their situations are different too; being able to adapt to all those things I think has made me a much better professional.

MALIBU RISING by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Malibu Rising is a story about one unforgettable night in the life of a family: the night they each have to choose what they will keep from the people who made them and what they will leave behind. A family chronicle set in glamorous Malibu following the Riva clan from 1956 when Mick and June first meet to 1983 when the children are all grown up and trying to come to terms with their parent’s mistakes and carving paths for themselves. A complex perspective on family, love and fame and what it takes to start over.
LAYOVER 2 THE by Lucie Waldon After ten years as a flight attendant, Ava Greene is poised to hang up her wings and finally put down roots. But an unexpected tropical layover with her archenemy, the ever-so-arrogant yet breathtakingly handsome pilot, Jack Stone, turns Ava’s life upside down in this witty, breezy debut romantic comedy about life and love, 30,000 feet above the ground.

SURVIVE THE NIGHT by Riley Sager
It’s November 1991. George H. W. Bush is in the White House, Nirvana’s in the tape deck, and movie-obsessed college student Charlie Jordan is in a car with a man who might be a serial killer. A game of cat-and-mouse played out along roads and in neon-lit car parks, during an age when the only call for help can be made on a pay phone and in a place where there’s nowhere to run. In order to win, Charlie must do one thing… survive the night.

MAROON 5 – Jordi
This month welcomes Maroon 5’s newest album Jordi including their single ‘Beautiful Mistakes’ featuring Megan Thee Stallion. To celebrate the release Maroon 5 has partnered with American Express for an encore virtual performance on the 4th of June featuring music from the new album. The record is the follow-up to 2017’s Red Pill Blues and includes the singles ‘Memories’ and ‘Nobody’s Love’ and was produced by J Kash.
MARINA – Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land
Marina’s fifth album, Ancient Dreams in Modern Land, the follow-up to 2019’s ‘Love + Fear’ is released this month. The self-written album sees her co-produce six tracks alongside songwriter/producer James Flanigan. The album features the new single, ‘Purge the Poison’; an upbeat return but as ever there is a rich potency to Marina’s lyricism and the already released track, “Man’s World.” Written solely by Marina in reaction to the startling statistics that only two percent of producers and three percent of engineers across popular music are women, “Man’s World” was produced by Decilveo and co-produced by Marina, and engineered by the first-ever female Grammy Award winner for “Best Engineered Album, NonClassical,” Emily Lazar.

TOM ODELL – Monsters
Monsters is the follow-up to singersongwriter, Tom Odell’s 2018 ‘Jubilee Road’ and will feature the previously released ‘Numb’. His latest song, ‘Monster V.1’ is also included, which is the first of two versions and was created while Odell was recovering from his own mental health issues. “In 2019, my anxiety got so bad that I had to stop making music for a while,” Odell said of the song. “There was a period when it felt like I couldn’t leave the house without having a panic attack. I wrote this song, monster, about trying to overcome my struggles with those mental health problems.” He continued, “It makes me super sad to listen at moments because it brings back some tough times, but I am super proud of it and hope it resonates with people who are dealing with similar struggles. This first version is the song in its purest form, which I wanted you all to hear first, as the lyrics mean so much to me.”

MORGAN FREEMAN
d l o g e r u P
T
he youngest of five children, Morgan Freeman was born on June 1st, 1937, in Memphis Tennessee. His father, Morgan Porterfield Freeman, Sr. was a barber, and his mother, Mayme Edna Freeman, a schoolteacher. Raised in Chicago and Mississippi in a low-income home, Freeman spent a lot of time scraping money together to see movies, admiring actors such as Gary Cooper, Spencer Tracy and Sidney Poitier. At 12-years-old, as a punishment for bad behaviour at school, Morgan was ordered to partake in the school’s drama competition. To his surprise, he was a natural and took home top honours in the program. However, it was flying where his heart lay and in 1955, after turning down a partial drama scholarship, he joined

the U.S Air Force. The military proved a lot different than his expectations and instead of zipping across the skies, he was consigned to on-the-ground activity as a mechanic and radar technician.
“I had this very clear epiphany, you are not in love with this; you are in love with the idea of this.” In 1959, after realizing life in the Air Force wasn’t for him, Morgan Freeman embarked on an acting career, moving to Hollywood to see if he could make it. It wasn’t an easy life. He took acting classes and struggled to find work. In
the early 1960s, he moved again, this time to New York City, where more billpaying day jobs and night-time auditions followed. His big career break came in 1967, the same year he married Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, when he landed a part in an all-African American Broadway production of Hello, Dolly! starring Pearl Bailey. Some national exposure followed in 1971 when he was cast in The Electric Company, a public television-produced children’s TV show. When The Electric Company was cancelled in 1976, his frustration at not being able to break into movies heightened. His personal life was hurting, too. Long before the show ended, Freeman found that his marriage had started to fall apart, and he began drinking too much. Freeman and Jeanette divorced in 1979.

“Success comes when it comes”
Bruce Almighty and the sequel Evan Almighty saw Freeman take on the ultimate role as God. In 2005, he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Clint Eastwood’s Million Dollar Baby with roles in Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, The Bucket List and Red continuing his success. In 2009 Morgan teamed up with Clint Eastwood again to play the role of South African President Nelson Mandela in Invinctus, a role that earned him an Oscar nod for Best Actor. At the 2012 Golden Globes, Freeman received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.” Action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen, sci-fi movie Oblivion, comedy Last Vegas and other popular hits saw Morgan on our screens regularly over the coming years before he returned to TV to star in Madam Secretary, for which he was also an executive producer. In 2016 President Obama presented Freeman with a National Medal of the Arts. At the ceremony, President Obama said Freeman was being honoured “for his outstanding work as an actor, director, and narrator. His iconic stage and screen performances have brought to life characters from the whole spectrum of the human experience, moving audiences around the world, and influencing countless young artists.” More recently Morgan reprised his role as Allan Trumbull in the third instalment in the Fallen film series, following Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen, before appearing alongside an ensemble cast in George Gallo’s crime comedy The Comeback Trail and most recently Coming 2 America, a sequel to the 1988 film.
Parts in the Robert Redford film, Brubaker in 1980 and in Paul Newman’s Harry and Son in 1984 followed. In 1987 Freeman’s luck changed when he was cast in the film Street Smart. The role proved to be a huge success even earning him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Two years later, Freeman’s triumphs continued with a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and a second Oscar nomination, as the kind-hearted but stubborn chauffeur in 1989’s Driving Miss Daisy. That same year he also starred in Edward Zwick’s critically acclaimed Glory, a drama about the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, which was one of the first recognized African American units in the Civil War. By the 1990s, Freeman was starring in big-budget films such as 1994’s The Shawshank Redemption, Seven in 1995 and 1998’s Deep Impact.
While he may have been a late bloomer, Morgan Freeman certainly made up for lost time. “I had a career for 30 years; a 30-year career is not bad. I often think I’m probably lucky that I wasn’t a wild success early on, coming up through the 1970s. I could have very easily burned out.” He continued, “Success comes when it comes,” and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere any time soon.

Their success was in large part down to Rusty Russell, a legendary high school coach who shocked his colleagues by giving up his privileged role to coach at an orphanage, but what many didn’t know was that Rusty was an orphan himself. Recognizing their strengths Rusty developed innovative strategies that would come to define modern football.

The capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, offers a breathtaking and unique cityscape, blending both ancient and futuristic architecture together in a heady brew. Famous for its its medieval walled old city (inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000), housing the vast Palace of Shirvanshahs and captivating Maiden Tower, the city nevertheless avoids the throngs of tourists less scenic destinations experience. Nearby Gobustan offers the otherworldly sight of bubbling, oozing mud volcanoes and 20,000 year old petroglyphs, then it’s back to Baku for some of Europe’s best nightlife.
After more than a year in which most people have barely left their postcode, let alone the country, many of us may be itching to broaden our horizons past the latest Netflix offering. Though travel to and from many destinations is still restricted or at the very least discouraged, with mass vaccinations well under way, some semblance of normality is beginning to creep back into life and the prospect of a foreign holiday might soon be more than just an outlandish pipe-dream. Nevertheless, the idea of jostling elbow to elbow and camera to camera with hundreds of other recently released tourists is probably not high on anyone’s bucket list so the track less-beaten may be the one worth taking. If you’re lucky enough to be in a position to travel in the near future, you might want to investigate one of these destinations.

Nestled in the Julian Alps in verdant northwest Slovenia, you’ll find the stunning municipality of Bohinj. Awarded the EDEN prize for best sustainable European tourism destination by the European Commision, Bohinj represents one of the continent’s most beautiful national parks, resplendent with breathtaking places to hike, ski, horseride, cycle and swim. The Triglav National Park, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, features some 7000 animal and 1600 plant species and the entire region’s commitment to sustainable tourism and eco-friendly development make it the perfect place to appreciate as we emerge from the wreckage of the
Enjoying the types of stunning scenery which wouldn’t look out of place in Middle Earth, Norway has a lot to offer travellers who appreciate epic. In the Geomagma park near Eigersund in the south of the country, you can hike among rock formations created during the last ice age some 10,000 years ago. Perhaps the most notorious, Trollpikken (Troll’s Spike), a faintly comical (if you’re immature) protrusion of rock from the cliff face, the phallic formation hit the headlines a few years back when vandals managed to lop the tip off. Restored by local efforts, the rock is a magmatic variant also found on the moon.
Most travellers have heard of the Azores of Portugal, but nestled in the northernmost part of the archipelago, the island of Flores (Flowers) is one less visited by tourists. Nevertheless, it’s a nature lover’s paradise, featuring natural pools, waterfalls, lush canyons, picturesque beaches and of course the bountiful flowers from which it derives its name. Enjoy fantastic diving, whale and dolphin watching, then feast on the local guava produced by the island’s subtropical microclimate. Be warned though, whilst winters are mild and summers generally dry, the island sees its fair share of annual rainfall. But then, what’s a little rain when you’re sat shoulder deep in a natural thermal pool? If you haven’t piled the pounds on over lockdown you may feel secure enough to visit Italy, where it’s quite the norm to order a pizza AND pasta dish at dinner... then grate extra parmesan on both.

Existing in Lombardy, in the north of Italy, and surrounded by three 900 year old artificial lakes, the city of Mantua was in 2016 deigned the Italian Capital of Culture and the following year named the European Capital of Gastronomy. Add to that the UNESCO World Heritage Site status of its old town and Sabbioneta district and it’s easy to see why it’s popular with Italians. Nevertheless, it remains relatively undiscovered by the foreign tourist hordes, meaning you might have some of the incredible spots to visit all to yourself. Highlights include the breathtaking Teatro Bibiena, whose stage was graced by a 13 year old Mozart and the imposing Ducal Palace, home to the long-ruling Gonzaga family, who presumably employed cleaners to maintain their 600 and something rooms. Resplendent with superb architecture, art, music and food, Mantua is an absolute feast for the senses. Croatia’s popularity with tourists has certainly grown in the last decade, with travellers flocking to Dubrovnik, Split and
Hvar, but the island of Korčula remains something of a hidden gem, relatively speaking. One of the largest islands of the 79 Dalmations (22 short of Disney’s best), Korčula’s centrepiece has to be its stunning medieval walled town, perched on the picturesque Pelješac peninsula in the Adriatic. Featuring numerous small villages, olive groves and densely carpeted pine forests to get happily lost in as well as pebbled and sandy beaches to turn accidentally red on, the island is alive with folk music and traditional dance. What cements its status as a go-to destination when flights start a-flying is its reputation for producing arguably the best of all Croatian wines, using the uniquely native “grk” grape. Don’t try to pronounce it until you’ve had a few large glasses and then it’s a sound which will come naturally. With numerous wine tours to choose from, including boozy bike tours, rest assured any vices you might have leant into a little harder this last year need not disappear along with the face masks.

on’t find yourself stepping into September like…”what have I been doing for the past two months?” or “is it over already?”, let’s make this a summer to remember - one hopefully not confined, restricted or bound to specific rules and regulations. Of course there will be bbqs, pool parties, beach lunches, dinner soirees, and the like - this is Marbella after all - but how about also getting active as well as retreating from the collective? Let’s make the most of being released as well as the beautiful place in which we are so lucky to be.
Marbella’s younger, more sporty cousin lives just over the border in the province of Cádiz and sits majestically on the cusp of the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. Here you can experience a whole different kettle of fish (literally) to the heady, relaxed vibe of Marbella - Tarifa is vibrant, active, and boasts one of the most stunning dune-lined coasts in Europe. You will be subjected to all the elements here and fun is definitely not shy in Tarifa. Go kite-boarding, surfing, roll down the dunes, wander the old town boutique stores, and eat lots and lots of delicious seafood. Tarifa, 11380, Cádiz,
In and around Marbella there are countless retreats offering anything from surf to yoga and sometimes a combination of activities. Healthy-eating, plant-based courses, natural health courses, mindfulness and meditation, etc. You get the picture. The plus side on top of potentially learning something new, getting far from the madding crowd and plunging in to new experiences is added to by Marbella being blessed with some of the most incredible properties offering such getaways. Andalucía is home to some of the most famous, picturesque ‘white villages’ in the whole of Spain. Having lived in a few of them I can attest to each one creating its very own sub-culture and attractions. CASARES, for example boasts being host to a world-renowned ‘ruta gastronomica’ beginning in the village and extending as far as the coast. Vent Victoria, Arroyo Hondo, and Venta Garcia being a few of the many incredible must-try restaurants peppered along the route. Wander around the village, take to the walking trails, or hike up into the hills. Casares also sits close-by to the ancient Roman baths, built on a natural sulphur spring, that are said to have been graced by Julius Cesar himself. Visit www.andalucia.org/en/gastronomic-routes to discover your ultimate Andalucían gastronomic tour.
Take a day off from the crowded, noisy beaches and enjoy some personal, peace time by the lake. Obviously no one can guarantee there’ll be nobody else with the same idea but generally the lakes conspire to offer a more tranquil setting, and this is respected by most. Again, bring a picnic because there aren’t any chiringuitos on offer, but you could also venture up into one of the many white villages lining the hillsides to enjoy a traditional Spanish, inland lunch. TURTLE LAKE - Yes there are turtles in it, plenty of them to allow sightings - though you will more than likely only see their little noses peeking up. At turtle lake you’ll find a kids play park which lies families as there is also decent parking and picnic benches. You might want to avoid swimming here in summer months as the water has been known to be a little unclean, however this does not detract from the beautiful, peaceful setting. You can also take walks from here, kayaks, stand up paddle boards, etc. and explore the inaccessible sides on these easily navigable waters. Lago de Las Tortugas, Urbanizacion N Andalucia 8H, 18, 29660 Marbella, Málaga ISTÁN LAKE - or as it is officially known ‘Embalse de la Concepcion’. Although also being man-made this is a truly stunning stretch of water which boasts plenty of natural wildlife and flora. Take a kayak, stand-up-paddle board, or small row boat and really immerse yourself in the secluded beauty. Embalse de la Concepción, 29660 Marbella, Málaga
Take on the iconic Marbella mountain landmark and climb LA CONCHA! It’s not as hard as it looks; it takes a few hours to get up and less to get down, unless your knees are like mine and groan on the downhills more than the up! Drive up to Refugio del Juanar and instantly get that feeling of leaving the madness behind, become immersed in the natural surroundings, forests, birds, and mountain life. Kids can totally achieve this climb, so can you! Make a day of it, take a picnic (not a heavy one) and have lunch at THE most picturesque point in Marbella. Did you see your house from there? Every time you look at the little nipple on top of that mountain after that you will feel a sense of achievement and a new relationship with your towering friend. El Juanar, Arroyo de Juanar, Málaga

As we hit middle age one of the things we’ll need to deal with is the onset of menopause. Now men, before you stop here, a couple of important points: understanding what’s going on for the ladies is going to help you in your relationships with them men undergo a form of menopause too, known as the andropause, so keep reading! For both men and women there are a number of hormonal changes taking place which have physiological and psychological effects. Before we get into the symptoms, take a look at what’s happening in the body, and more importantly look at what we can do to work with our changes rather than against them, let’s look at some key differences between the female and male menopause. For women menopause effectively marks the end of their ability to reproduce. Ovulation (the production of eggs) ends along with the monthly cycle. Various hormone levels decline quite drastically in a relatively short period of
themidlifementors.com team@ themidlifementors.com
It’s fair to say that physically and emotionally there is a more pronounced change for women than for men. In fact some men may not experience the symptoms aligned with the male menopause, despite going through it. For men, levels of the sex hormone testosterone are declining from around the age of 30 onwards, at the rate of around 1% a year. The decline is gradual, but by later midlife the symptoms (again physical and emotional) will be more evident for some men.
For both sexes there are numerous symptoms and the main reason for the majority of these is declining levels of sex hormones (oestrogen for women and testosterone for men), more on this shortly. Just a few of the common symptoms include: • Loss of muscle mass (and so strength) • Decreased bone density • Slowing metabolism • Increased body fat (particularly around the abdominal area) • Decreased energy levels • Loss of libido • Depression and/or anxiety • Nocturia (increased need to urinate in the night)
46
time, leading to a number of symptoms.
• Insomnia or trouble sleeping • Reducing head and body hair • Decreased motivation • Decreased confidence • Brain fog In addition women commonly suffer with hot flushes. This is by no means an exhaustive list, nor will everyone suffer from all of these, but they are common. So why is this happening?
FEEL-GOOD FACTOR
As mentioned most of theses changes are a direct or indirect result of falling levels of our sex hormones, which aside from their role in sexual function also play a role in many other areas of our bodies and brain. For women testosterone production ceases completely and oestrogen and progesterone production decline. For men the main changes are due to the compounding of that gradual testosterone decline. With falling or no testosterone muscle starts to breakdown, and we lose strength and muscle mass, which means our metabolism (the rate at which we burn calories) also falls. We’re also more likely to lay down fat around our midsections, so there’s a double whammy. Low testosterone has also been indicated with low mood, anxiety, brain fog and depression.
When we factor in the physical changes with these psychological changes, then throw in low energy levels and low libido it’s no surprise many find this phase of life challenging. Both sexes also experience falling levels of Human Growth Hormone (HGH), which plays many key roles in the body. HGH peaks in adolescence, then falls gradually and by age 55 is probably around one third lower in most people than in their twenties. HGH plays a role in helping maintain an overall healthy body, build new tissue, ensure regular sleep cycles, and helps regulate insulin and your body composition. So falling levels are having physical and emotional effects as well. That’s what’s going, but what can we do about it?
1. Exercise, in particular resistance training to maintain muscle mass and improve bone density 2. Decrease sugar in the diet as much as possible as it’s linked to inflammation and depression in some midlife studies 3. Get your stress under control 4. Get plenty of good quality sleep 5. Focus on a diet of whole foods, cutting out processed foods where possible 6. Get some sun to boost your Vitamin D which helps testosterone production 7. Work on your mindset to build a positive outlook, being present and having more fun in your life
Many women now opt for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to keep oestrogen levels elevated, and many men are now embracing Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) to keep
testosterone levels high, and this will work, but should be undertaken under the supervision of a medical doctor. There are a number of lifestyle changes we can make to actually not only alleviate the symptoms but work with our hormones rather than against them. On the training side there is a wealth of research showing that moving your body not only provides numerous health benefits but is in effect a way of “future proofing” it.
Make sure you get in some cardio training like runs, walks, classes, HIIT, swimming or cycling. It’s crucial you do some sort of resistance training, as this helps preserve muscle mass, and improve bone density. Now, resistance training doesn’t have to mean lifting weights at the gym, it can be at home with your bodyweight or simple kit. Resistance training helps temporarily boost levels of HGH and testosterone, so regular training will help keep your base line elevated, plus you’ll burn those excess calories. On the nutrition side cut out processed foods as much as you can, and cut out as much sugar as you can. At this age we’re becoming more insulin resistant so we want to fuel our body with whole foods when and where we can. Don’t neglect your mental and emotional wellbeing. Doing the above will actually help elevate your mood, but a good practice is to start working with affirmations, and daily gratitude to help build a more positive mindset.

I wouldn’t teach advanced Pilates to a client who hadn’t yet mastered the basics, and just as the old saying goes; “you have to be able to walk before you can run”! When it comes to nutrition we need to master the “how” before we dive into the “what”.

FEEL-GOOD FACTOR
Let’s explore these two components a little deeper ...
Appetite awareness Appetite awareness is “the ability to recognise physical hunger or fullness; to be able to distinguish “I want to eat” from “I need to eat, and to eat the right amount for our physiological needs”. In today’s world smells of freshly baked croissants fill our nostrils at every street turn, foodgasmic foodporn snaps splay our insta feeds and food is more accessible than ever, so it’s no surprise that food is always on the mind and appetite can get confused with hunger. Let me ask you a question, generally speaking, do you eat because you’re hungry, because there is a physical need or for any different reason? Throughout our day we eat for many reasons from wanting to gain energy or wanting to wind down, eating for pure pleasure, for societal norms (like eating because it’s breakfast time), to gain muscle post-training or to find comfort from emotional distress. Unlike appetite, hunger is a “feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by lack of food”. There is a physical sensation mild or strong rather than just psychological. This could be a belly
rumble, feeling of an empty stomach, low energy or a slight headache. Even if your goal isn’t weight loss it’s important to be aware of our own hunger cues. Many of us today (women especially) have unlearned or lost touch with the practice of noticing genuine feelings of hunger and satiety. For clients who have a desire to lose weight, need to lose weight or are trying to improve their gut health I suggest they ask themselves “Am I physically hungry”, more often than not there is more of a desire than a need... If we only ate when we needed to our total caloric intake would reduce dramatically, and at the end of the day, energy output (how much energy the body uses throughout the day) needs to be higher than energy intake (how much energy is obtained via food). For a healthy gut and to keep energy levels high it’s recommended to leave an absolute minimum of two hours between meals, ideally three to four! Overloading the gut prohibits the detoxification process and can leave us with a heavy or sluggish feeling, and yes you guessed it can prevent us from shifting those pounds.
Mindfulness “The ability to pay attention, to be selfaware, to be thoughtful of our choices, and to be present at the moment”. On the contrary, if we’re eating while working, watching TV or anything else we can turn into a mindless muncher! If we’re not mentally present while eating it becomes easy to overeat and to eat too quickly all while reducing our food satisfaction. I don’t know about you but when I’m eating my dark chocolate in the evening I want to remember and savour every bite! Not remembering your treats or the food which is preventing you from reaching your aesthetic desires is truly pointless! There is a saying in my house “food in the mouth fork on the plate”! Not sure if you eat quickly? Well, time yourself it should take a minimum of 15-20 minutes to eat a full meal (depending on the
meal size of course), this allows feedback from your stretch receptors in the gastrointestinal tract along with hormonal responses to nutrients to send signals to the brain saying “I’m full”. If you want to lose weight then take eating mindfully and slowly seriously, these are not soft skills! Eating without devices, distractions and enjoying each bite can really make a difference to both your enjoyment and waistline!
The overall goal is to build awareness about your own behaviours and habits with food, with awareness comes knowledge and with knowledge comes power! But not only power, empowerment, giving you the skills and confidence to shift from external “rules” about what to eat toward internal “principles” and self-regulation. Let’s move away from diet culture, let’s learn how to trust and honour our incredible unique bodies, and finally move away from that one-size-fits-all approach.

From POLITICIAN to BRAND FOUNDER Multi-faceted powerhouse Elise Dünweber is a member of The Conservative Party and is also a fervent patron of the Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation. For a period of 3 years, she had significant involvement on the Parliamentary List and in 2015 she was a candidate in the General Election. After being deeply involved in politics and animal welfare over several years, she can now add Creative Director of lifestyle brand ELSKERLIFE to her many other prominent and noteworthy titles.
You are the founder of Elskerlife, a lifestyle and fashion brand that embraces comfort and simplicity. Was creating your own brand something that you always had in mind? No - not at all in fact! I went to drama school, worked in the acting industry and then after that came politics for ten years. I had no experience in the fashion industry whatsoever but I have always been very creative and resourceful, and I know what I like. After one of my best friends passed away five years ago, I decided to take the sadness I felt and focus on thinking about the engaging spirit she had and how I could encompass that zest for life into something positive. I am proud of what we have created and delighted that in doing so I have been able to harness one of my main passions - and hers - Animal Welfare. “Elsker” is Danish for Love and so it’s all about loving life and living it to the full which sadly my dear friend could not.
What makes Elskerlife different from other leisure and lifestyle brands? We keep it simple and each new product includes unique and original artwork by our in-house artist (my eldest daughter Shannon, also a freelance yoga instructor). Our products have been very successful in the yoga market, as there is a very
52
positive and zen-like feel to Elskerlife. We want people to feel good with our products - if you feel good, that shines through in your aura and then you look good. With Elskerlife, people also get something really lovely at a decent price point. I think people appreciate and value good quality and authenticity.
What has been the most rewarding part of building your brand? The feeling that people are enjoying it. Knowing that customers are happy and come back to buy gifts for their friends and family feels rewarding. A friend recently sent me a press article of a well-known actress wearing a scarf I had designed while travelling, it was like seeing your artwork on display in a top gallery!
Were you always clear that Elskerlife would be a family business? How does being a family business reinforce the brand’s values? No - it just evolved this way... One way or another everyone gets involved in whatever the family is doing. When I was growing up and my father was putting on a production, everyone got involved whether they wanted to or not, but we all embraced it and enjoyed being a part of it. I suppose I have carried that ethos with me, and I love having everyone involved. Of course, it’s my own project and they are all equally busy doing their own thing but Elskerlife is definitely something they are involved with and have been since the start. Art & design are created by my eldest daughter, and marketing, modelling and shoot co-ordination are handled by my younger daughters Jasmine & Francesca, which is great as they are
digitally very savvy and have strong ideas on what works and what doesn’t. My son Harison is in international business and my husband is in finance so they always have something to say! Doing things together has always been important to me, and family is the core of life.
What are your favorite products from your brand and how do you personally use them? I love the bamboo sweatshirts; they are so soft. I wear them all the time, either walking the dogs, after a workout or just relaxing at home. I also adore the new dresses for summer (pictured page 48). They are perfect for the beach, poolside or relaxed summer lunches. They are feminine and
“ELSKER” IS DANISH FOR LOVE AND SO IT’S ALL ABOUT LOVING LIFE AND LIVING IT TO THE FULL...
elegant but also practical, which I feel is so important especially when travelling or in the heat. They don’t crease, which is really important to me. If a fabric creases, I don’t want it! The most precious thing in our lives is time and I don’t want anyone to waste time ironing especially in the summer. The masks are brilliant too. Obviously, I would rather not wear them at all but rules are rules and I would rather be in something fun and comfortable than look like a dentist and dry out my skin with a disposable mask. It really upsets me seeing
how many of those things end up in the sea and littering our coastline.
Elskerlife donates 20% of profits to support International Animal Welfare. Are there other ways you intend to implement philanthropy into your brand? I am always looking for ways to incorporate philanthropic causes. Animal Welfare has always been and always will be hugely important to me and I will prioritise that as much as I possibly can. I

There is also consideration of reforms to provide greater assurance that microchip database information is checked appropriately, for example in cases where healthy dogs are presented to vets for euthanasia, as campaigned for via the ‘Tuk’s Law’ movement. Our Cofounder met with a Defra Minster on this issue with the Tuks Law founders in 2019 to press for this measure.
What role do you think Covid-19 has played in the development of animal welfare?
am sent new projects and initiatives on a regular basis and there is so much more I wish I could do.
How would you describe your personal style? Comfortable elegance. My mother is French and she always gets it so right. I have to be comfortable, and if I can make that look good as well, then I’m happy. I used to be in smart & sensible clothes all the time and then one day one of my daughters said “Mum you have left politics, stop dressing like a politician, you are still young enough to look a bit sexy!” It’s nice to dress up when I am not in sportswear or “dog safe” outfits but I have to say I am all for age-appropriate clothes... Probably not a popular comment but I do believe that there comes a time when some outfits should be left to the beauty of youth, as one of my best friends recently put it - we have passed the baton to our daughters for the head turning. I see some women in their fifties trying to compete with the twenty and thirty-year-olds which is quite unnecessary really. Having said that, I do hope to be wearing a bikini for as long as possible so perhaps I am a bit hypocritical...

Since 2010 you have helped achieve many notable achievements in animal welfare. The ConservativeAWF just recently helped deliver tougher prison terms for animal abusers, what plans are there to further protect animals and pets? We have pushed for this measure since 2016, have handed our animal welfare manifesto to No10 and Ministers in January 2017 and 2019 and are delighted that many of our proposals are included in the Government’s Action Plan for Animal Welfare. These include recognising animals as sentient beings in UK law, a ban on trophy hunting imports of wild animals, banning primates as pets, introducing a close season for brown hares, ending glue traps and looking at ending the use of cruel snares, end the import and export of shark fins and a ban on advertisements promoting low welfare tourist experiences abroad such as riding Asian elephants. Concerning pet animals, we have always pressed for mandatory cat microchipping, and a crackdown on puppy smuggling via new legislation. We welcome the Govt taskforce to tackle the dog theft crisis. The Government will review improvements for racing greyhounds and for equine identification to be introduced. We also welcome recent Govt action to stop the
Covid-19 has shown us that the pandemic has had a devastating impact upon animal charities and presented deep challenges to their provision to care for vulnerable animals. Many zoos have been at crisis point to fund the care of their animals. The Government provided funds to help with this. There have been distressing reports in the media of animal charities and shelters being overwhelmed by unwanted dogs whose owners bought them during lockdown as companions but no longer wanted the responsibility of dog ownership and all that entails. Coronavirus has undoubtedly created unprecedented problems for the animal welfare sector yet it has provided an opportunity to address key animal welfare issues concerning the link between wild animals and the spread of zoonotic diseases. This pandemic has caused us to examine our relationship with animals both in the wildlife trade and on industrial farms where animals in overcrowded caged systems provides the ideal breeding ground for dangerous new strains of the virus to mutate and infect humans. We have all been appalled by the huge culling of 17 million mink on industrial fur farms in Denmark over fears of a mutated form of coronavirus being passed onto the public. The UK has tens of thousands of vast intensive farm units, where farm animals are kept in units so overcrowded and
stressful, they can provide ideal breeding grounds for pathogens to mutate and spread. This pandemic has made it evident that our health depends on the health of animals and our shared environment, and we must drive forward a new relationship with nature to prevent the emergence of disease and future pandemics.
In what ways does the UK’s departure from the EU allow the Action Plan for Animal Welfare to have a more assertive role on the world stage? Leaving the EU has presented key opportunities for the UK to ban live animal exports for slaughter and fattening which we could not do as a member of the EU. We hope that other countries will follow our lead and example and ban live exports across the world. We can also go further than the EU and ban cruel foie gras imports and fur imports. We will lead our own farming policies and reward farmers who adopt higher animal welfare systems, such as ending pig farrowing crates and cages for egg laying birds. We can act as a world leader on the world stage on our farming policies to farm in ways that restore natural resources, soils, water, biodiversity, reduce farm antibiotic use and ensure that our farming and
diets contributes to combatting Climate Change. We can end advertisements promoting unethical elephant related tourist attractions and encourage other countries to do the same. We can end cruel trophy hunting imports to protect vulnerable and endangered species abroad. We need to end industrial factory farms which treat sentient animals as products.
goes on across the board if it wasn’t for all the digital sharing. It’s about strength in numbers and raising awareness in a positive manner.
Homelessness, disabilities, personal journeys, mental health, life-limiting conditions, care for the environment - a little goes ...WE MUST DRIVE a long way, and if we all work together, we can FORWARD A NEW achieve so much.
RELATIONSHIP WITH NATURE TO PREVENT THE EMERGENCE OF DISEASE AND FUTURE PANDEMICS.
Your social media profile often showcases your projects with Animal Welfare. Do you find that social media helps bring awareness to important causes and has caused a shift in people’s feelings towards charity work?
Absolutely. Social media can be so positive for good causes and I have had a lot of feedback from people appreciative of what I share. Equally, I think it is a powerful tool for many other charities. I have sponsored people doing all sorts of weird and wonderful things to help causes they are passionate about and I would never have known about the great work that
What do you enjoy doing in your downtime?
There are never enough hours in the day to do everything I truly love to do (I get cross when I hear people say they are bored - what a luxury!) My favourite things when I make time are: hiking with my hounds & the triple A gang (pure bliss), beating my husband at backgammon (equally satisfying), spending time with my children laughing until our sides hurt doing impressions, preparing food and enjoying our own weird language (every family does that right?!), practicing my Spanish, reading books (3 friends, my father & my godfather have all written books recently - I shamefully can’t keep up!), Pilates (a must) and drinking fine wine while putting the world to rights with my wonderful friends... http://www.elskerlife.com @elskerlife & @elisedunweber

When
Igor
met
Natasha Igor Chapurin hails from a family that revitalized the textile industry after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and his inevitable fashion career was catapulted into success in 1992 when he won Nina Ricci’s Young Designer Award in Paris. His first haute couture collection, To Russia With Love, was presented in 1995 and his first boutique in Moscow opened in 1998, marking the birth of his eponymous label. Over the period of his career he has been granted with accolades such as the Golden Mannequin, which is the most prestigious award of the Russian High Fashion Association, and was also named the winner of Harper Bazaar’s Style Award.
Chapurin has expanded to include seasonal prêt-à-porter skiwear, home furnishing, accessories, bed linen collections, and capsule collections for prominent Russian brands. Chapurin is attuned to the fact that the fashion scene in Moscow is actively developing and Russian brands are gaining global recognition, however, he also understands that the major fashion capitals remain the same and feels privileged to have participated in Paris Fashion Week as an international designer. Over the years, Chapurin has been worn on the runway by supermodels such as Sasha Pivovarova, Lara Stone and even the iconic Naomi Campbell who opened his show in Paris in 2009.
organised by Nina Ricci. This led to my first haute couture collection in my native Russia in 1995, and the CHAPURIN brand was born.
the founder of the brand, I am gifted a bracelet before each haute couture show; I have so many memories associated with this jewellery.
As the Moscow fashion scene is developing, Russian brands are gaining recognition from buyers and celebrities around the world, which I find interesting to observe. Despite this, the centre of the fashion world is still located where the all the fashion weeks take place. My brand participated in Paris Fashion Week, it is also where I forged a place as a world-famous designer, so this city is very special to me.
I’ve always loved Katherine Hepburn’s style, although, I dislike the term ‘style icon’ - I feel as though it has been overused in modern times. Over the years we have worked with many top models, including Lara Stone, Vlada Roslyakova and Sasha Pivovarova but the number one model, for me, has always been Naomi Campbell, who opened our 2009 Paris show.
My talisman accessory is the Stephen Webster bracelet, as I am friends with
IGOR CHAPURIN A career in design was inevitable for me, my family worked in the textile industry, so my choice of profession was unsurprising. I attended the Vitebsk Technological Institute, specialising in women’s clothing design. My career began when I won the International Festival of Young Designers competition in Paris,

Chapurin is the only Russian fashion designer that has collaborated with Bolshoi Ballet Productions, and his inherent passion for theatre was what first inspired him to design costumes and stage designs for numerous ballet, operette and drama productions.

BULL FIGHTER Motoring author, racing driver and photo-journalist Ian Kuah reports on the Novitec Torado Aventador
75
Torque Talk
Imagine a place where uniquely tuned Ferraris and Porsches are so commonplace that the locals hardly bat an eyelid when they drive past. Monaco? Marbella? Newport Beach? We are in fact in deepest Bavaria, near the town of Stetten where Novitec Rosso plies their trade, turning already spectacular supercars into automotive haute couture for wealthy enthusiasts. Today however, ears accustomed to the scream of a flat-plane crank Ferrari V8, or the wail of a Porsche flat-six prick up as an unfamiliar soundtrack permeates the country air. Resonating with a distinctly different intake and exhaust note from a Ferrari V12, the deeper voiced, more guttural growl of a Lamborghini V12 turns heads as our pearlescent white Aventador streaks past. Eyeballs are riveted to its futuristic visage as the interloper from Sant’ Agata Bolognese passes through their world. So radical is the basic Aventador in both shape and detailing, this might as well be a craft from another galaxy. Because the Lamborghini flagship comes with a wow factor of eleven as standard, onlookers seeing an Aventador for the first time would never guess that this car had been fettled by an aftermarket specialist. However, Lamborghini owners and car enthusiasts know the difference. Enter Novitec Torado, the Lamborghini offshoot of Novitec Rosso, renowned specialist in Ferrari personalisation.
76
The Lamborghini programme came out of numerous requests from Novitec’s dealers and clients around the world. “In the past, Ferrari and Lamborghini owners were different people,” says Dirk Moersdorf, Novitec’s sales manager. “However, these days it is not unusual for clients to own both, and a client who has a couple of our Ferraris recently took delivery of the 1,000th Aventador to roll off the production line.” “In fact, Novitec founder, Wolfgang Hegedorn used to own a Lamborghini Diablo as well as a Ferrari himself, so there is a precedent for both these Italian marques within our company,” he said. Torado is an unusual name and I asked Dirk how it came about. “It is a fantasy name,” he explained. “We sat around brainstorming one day, and came up with something that sounds Italian and suitable for a Lamborghini tuning
company. Some of our clients guessed that it is a combination of Toreador (bullfighter), and Tornado, but that is just a coincidence.” Bespoke wheels always make a big first impression even if you do nothing else to a cars, and the Novitec Torado scores with their NL1 three-piece forged alloy wheels. Featuring five double-spokes and a visually pleasing deep offset at the rear, these wheels not only look good on the car but also allow plenty of cooling air to reach the big factory ceramic brakes. The standard Aventador comes with 255/35ZR19 and 335/30ZR20 Pirelli tyres on 9.0J x 19 and 12.0J x 20-inch wheels. Novitec go up one size on each axle, using 9.0J x 20-inch and 13.0J x 21inch sizes, shod with 255/30ZR20 and 355/25ZR21 Pirelli PZero rubber.
Torque Talk
the Novitec Torado aero kit there purely for looks, but otherwise, a plethora of visible carbon-fibre parts replace or add to the Aventador’s aggressively angular shape. The new carbon-fibre sill covers draw your eyes rearwards where the larger side intake scoops and side window scoops direct more cooling air into the engine bay. You can either have an all-new engine cover with air ducts, or use the original engine lid with extended air outlets. A roof mounted air scoop funnels more cooling air into the engine bay, while side rear window intake scoops also channel more air to the engine bay, as do the extended side intakes, each featuring an extra louvre. While these wheels are available with silver or black centres, you can also have them colour-coded, and even have the edges of the rims coated in carbonfibre to match the look of the aero components. Owners after a simple suspension upgrade can have a sport spring set that drops the ride height by 20mm. However, if you require full adjustability, the KW aluminium coil-over sport suspension as fitted to this car has a full range of bounce, rebound and ride height adjustment.
SO RADICAL IS THE BASIC AVENTADOR IN BOTH SHAPE AND DETAILING, THIS MIGHT AS WELL BE A CRAFT FROM ANOTHER GALAXY.
Most supercars look unfinished without a rear wing, and the Aventador is no exception. Here you have the choice of a single or double rear wing, whose downforce is aided and abetted by a single or double underbody diffuser. Meanwhile the air outlet ducts in the rear bumper are extended for smoother airflow.
The Novitec Torado Aventador looks sensational even at rest, and when you walk around it you realise that some of the 16 visible carbon-fibre aero parts take their styling cues from the factory equivalents, but are extended for both visual and physical effect. “The air intake scoops in the nose grab more ram air for the radiators, while the front spoiler lip, which fits to the factory front bumper looks like a larger version of the factory one, and produces the extra downforce over the front axle required to counterbalance the larger fixed rear wing. A centre strut between the original bumper and the extended spoiler lip supports this extra downforce. A new front luggage compartment lid features working air ducts that also help to create negative lift. If you do not go for the replacement lid, you can add extended air outlets on the standard one. Unlike the rest of the components, which come in visible carbon-fibre only, the new front lid can be ordered in glassfibre, carbon-fibre or visible carbon-fibre, with the GRP and carbon-fibre version painted in body-colour. The visible carbon mirror covers are the only part of

“There is a lot to be gained by addressing the ECU mapping and lowering backpressure with our freerflowing exhaust, which use 100-cell sports catalytic convertors,” Dirk explained. Strangely, Novitec Torado annotate their conversions backwards, so that Stage 4 rather than Stage 1 is the least powerful conversion. So, from the bottom, Stage 4 is an exhaust only conversion that relies on the latitude built into the ECU to compensate for the lower backpressure of the Novitec exhaust.
In many cases, form follows function, but over the years it has become painfully obvious that some tuners either put aesthetics before practical issues, or are simply unaware of the technical reasons why a manufacturer does certain things. A case in point is the protocol built into the factory ECU that deploys the factory rear spoiler by 20mm below 110km/h to ensure adequate engine bay ventilation when the car is idling in traffic, or driving at speeds too low to generate meaningful cooling airflow. Most tuners who add a rear wing disable this all-important function, which can lead to engine overheating in very hot climates such as the Middle East and Far East where many of these cars live. The Novitec Torado Cantronic ECU allows the factory 20mm lifting of the rear wing up for ventilation, and this also avoids the ECU showing a fault code.
78
The company has even gone to the trouble of devising a module for their dealers that locks the spoiler in the up position when the car is at rest with the engine off. This makes it easier to remove and replace the rear bumper during installation of the sports exhaust. “We always research the reasons why the factory does certain things with their active and passive air cooling systems, and then ensure that we enhance rather than remove some of that cooling capacity with our parts,” Dirk explained. “This is vital because the extra power we extract from the engine produces more heat.” On that score, Novitec Torado offer four stages of power increase to unlock more of the inherent potential of the 6,498cc V12 that comes from the factory with 700 hp at 8,250rpm and 690 Nm (508.9 ft lb) of torque at 5,500rpm.
Weighing 18 kg less than the factory exhaust, and therefore taking a significant chunk of mass out of the rearmost part of the car, the stainless steel exhaust has no standard flap regulation to alter its decibel level for town and country. Its 100-cell metal sports cats reduce backpressure sufficiently to boost power by 22 hp and 14 Nm making for 722 hp at 8,200rpm, with 704 Nm at 5,400rpm. Options to this spec, and indeed the other three, are flap regulation, high temperature heat protection, or the use of Inconel in place of stainless steel, for a further saving of 2.0 kg.
Torque Talk
Stage 3 adds catalyst replacement pipes and Novitec’s Tectronic coding to avoid an error indication from the catalytic convertors. This conversion pares a further 2.0 kg from the weight of the exhaust system, and takes power to 728 hp at 8,200rpm, with 709 Nm at 5,400rpm. Optimising the fuel and ignition curve of the ECU together with the hardware from Stage 4 results in 743 hp at 8,100rpm, together with 716 Nm of torque at 5,400rpm. As with Stage 4, this is the preferred conversion for EU countries and Switzerland where emission controls are more rigorous. It is also therefore the default conversion for California for the same reason. Stage 1 is the ECU optimised version of Stage 3, and releases 748 hp at 8,100rpm with 722 Nm of torque at 5,400rpm. This significant boost in output and weight saving shows just how restrictive, and indeed heavy, the stock exhaust system is. Even without the full re-trim in fine leather and Alcantara to an owner’s individual requirements, the cabin of the Novitec
Torado Aventador looks more complete and esoteric thanks to the extra carbonfibre parts on the steering wheel, instrument panel cover, centre console, armrest, door panels and footboard. However, the more important side of the conversion becomes apparent when you flip up the red ‘safety’ cover over the start/stop button and fire up the big V12. The sound of air and fuel combusting sounds even more explosive than usual, and the growl that accompanies the rock steady idle is an octave deeper and even more menacing. The extra power and torque is not apparent at normal road speeds except in terms of the crisper throttle response, which is a by-product of the lower exhaust backpressure and the more aggressive low rpm ignition curve programmed into the ECU. However, when the last village is showing in the rear view mirror and a wide country road roads open up ahead, I am finally able to use all the revs in second and third gears and look for the enhanced top-end.
As the revs build, more instruments join the orchestra, adding extra layers of induction, combustion and exhaust noise to the soundtrack. The greater incisiveness of the throttle response and the extra horses at the top end make themselves felt as the rev counter needle rockets past 6,000rpm towards the heady 8,500rpm redline. The screaming V12 crescendo that Lamborghini fans will clearly recognise as one of their own is obvious, but it is on steroids here thanks to the freer breathing Novitec exhaust system and sharpened response. The spectacular looking Lamborghini Aventador presents itself as the quintessential major league supercar. This also means that it is not unreasonable to see another Aventador or two cruising your patch. For owners with a strong individualistic streak and a penchant for one-upmanship this is a problem, but one that Novitec Torado are very happy to help you fix.

MONEY MINDSET
International businessman and founder of MMS Academy Joseph James is based between London and Ibiza and is also the host of Money, Mindset and Strategy podcast. MMS Academy offers private and group programs with mindset coaching and business mentoring that have been created to show how to release limiting beliefs about money, generate multiple streams of income, promote your brand in an authentic manner and other relevant tools that are crucial to succeed in today’s business climate.
What is money mindset? Your money mindset consists of the beliefs you hold to be true about yourself, money and what is possible and achievable for you. A person with a healthy money mindset is very comfortable charging well for their services, has clear goals and boundaries and runs their life and business in a manner that works for them. On the contrary, a person who has a limited money mindset probably undercharges for their services, doesn’t have clear goals about where they want to be, isn’t comfortable talking about money and most likely has only one stream of income.
Can you share some tips on how our readers can start to upgrade their money mindset? Absolutely! The first thing I would suggest is to be very clear with what you want to accomplish. I run an online school called MMS Academy and one of the first exercises people get when they join is what I call a “sacred goal setting ritual”. Create a special environment for yourself or go somewhere meaningful and write down some goals that are meaningful for you. Give yourself permission to claim what you really want. Next, ask yourself “What would I need to believe about myself for that to be true for me?”
80
Your life is the result of your beliefs so we always must start with the mindset. Next, map out some practical steps you can take towards your goals. Another important part of cultivating a healthy money mindset is using empowering money language (I teach this in depth in MMS Academy as well). Notice where you would use apologetic or negative statements and flip them into a more empowering way of communicating. For example: “Sorry, I don’t work for free” becomes “Happy to help with that, I’ll send over a link to book some time with me and we can get started” Or “Sorry, I need to send you an invoice” becomes “I’ve sent over some paperwork to get things booked in, looking forward to working with you!”
One of the best ways to increase your wealth is to create multiple streams of income, so you can make receive money from different sources simultaneously.
What advice would you give to business owners who are navigating the current market?
If the last year and a half has taught us anything, it would be the importance of being in control of your income as much as possible. I teach this in several ways through my private coaching and also my online school. Here are 3 examples:
Create multiple income streams- This simply means having more than one way that you or your business generates income at any given time. Any business can create multiple income streams, it’s simply about thinking bigger. One of the best ways to increase your wealth is to create multiple streams of income, so you can make receive money from different sources simultaneously.
Sell packages- Any service can be built into a package. I teach this in depth in MMS Academy and clients are having amazing success with it. Packages have the potential to help your client more than a single service or session, as well as strengthen your relationship while allowing you to charge a much better fee. It’s about creating what I call “mutual abundance”.
Offer VIP programs- A portion of your current client and customer base will naturally want a VIP offer but people are not going to upgrade themselves, you have to make it available and suggest it when you feel it’s a good fit. What would a VIP package look like in your business? What would you love to charge for it? In terms of marketing, now more than ever we need to be tapping into what people really want and highlighting clear benefits that we can bring to them. It’s about building trust and connection with your audience, especially now.
You’ve been called “The ultimate business coach for serious entrepreneurs” How did you get started as a money mindset coach? I was a publicist for ten years, I worked on some amazing global brands and campaigns and ways found myself naturally coaching people. I started to notice that you could give two people the exact same business strategy and they would get completely different results, largely down to their money mindset and how they feel about themselves. A client I was doing PR for actually watched me as I was coaching without me realizing it and ended up passing clients to me and our relationship grew from there. Now I run an online Academy, have a podcast, a boot camp, coach training and have a private coaching practice with some amazing clients around the world. I love coaching my clients and help them achieve their goals, especially the ones who felt their dreams were unattainable. Joseph’s office
What type of clients do you typically work with? In MMS Academy, we have clients from around the world in many different industries. Similarly, in my private coaching practice, I work with people who want to grow their brand, upgrade their money mindset and take things to the next level with their pricing, income streams and offers. We work on things like: Setting exciting goals, releasing limiting beliefs, mapping out exciting new offers, raising pricing, upgrading marketing messages and creating a customized plan that works with their personality and intentions. Everything we do in MMS private coaching is fully customized to the client’s needs.
How can people work with you? The first thing I would suggest would be to subscribe to the podcast, have a listen through the episodes so you can get a feel for my style and way of coaching. __________________________________

Building for without endangering
TODAY TOMORROW Sustainable homes are “tuned in” to the natural environment incorporating eco-friendly building materials and processess. They also offer far-reaching social, economic and environmental advantages. We talk to BRIGHT to see how Marbella’s first luxury passive home, Villa Alcuzcuz, is being certified. There are many advantages to owning a sustainable home – here are the top five:
1 2 3
Sustainable homes are energy and water efficient. Energy efficiency is at the core of sustainable home building - as a homeowner your energy costs are dramatically reduced. Low operating costs - Enhanced natural light, solar heating/cooling and environmentally-friendly lighting are just a few of the money-saving benefits. You’ll also spend less on maintenance over time due to the use of durable materials. Reduced Carbon Footprint Sustainable homes reduce emissions that impact climate change.

Increased Property Value – Numerous industry studies show that sustainable homes hold their value and are selling much faster than their counterparts. In terms of investment potential, they are the future. Healthier and Happier living A feeling of well-being at all times with regard to air quality, temperature and comfort.

Windows not only allow daylight to enter rooms, but also make use of the sun’s energy to warm the building. In cool temperate climates, Passive Houses have noble gas-filled, tripleglazed panes with well-insulated frames. During the winter, such high quality windows allow more of the sun‘s thermal energy into the building than they let out. During the warmer months, and in warmer climates closer to the equator, the sun sits higher in the sky, resulting in reduced solar heat gains just when they’re needed less. Appropriate shading is also of prime importance. At a more detailed level, Passive House certification requires exceptional efficiency in insulation, using thermal bridge-free design and construction to create an airtight building envelope. It is therefore essential to have wellinsulated window frames and glazing, while ventilation is achieved with highly efficient heat or energy recovery. This means mechanical ventilation with a heat recovery and bypass system involving air inlets and outlets, filter units, frost protection, post heating coils, a duct system and air valves for supply and extraction.

HOW TO HOST AN
outdoor Boho Chic PARTY
Text by Dominique Alexandra Forsström Special thanks: Rafael Sanchez del Aguila
As Summer temperatures rise and the light fades later each evening, I began dreaming of an alfresco event to unite my friends and family to take in the beauty of the season in a magical setting, and what better excuse than on my 30th birthday! With that in mind, I started to plan a Boho Chic party that was elegant and playful with attention to detail, hints of blush and nude tones, and, in essence, an event that would convey the feeling of barefoot luxury. So, this month, I’m sharing exactly how I put this look together so you can plan your own bohemian soirée!
Go Local
I try my best to support local businesses, so this was super important for me when deciding which companies I wanted to work with. I invited my good friends from Sunbeads Marbella (@sunbeadsmarbella) to present their new Summer collection of sunglass chains at my birthday! I kindly asked them to provide a discount code for my lovely readers so that you can get your beautiful chain in time for summer! Use code DOM30 to get a 30% discount off your purchase during the month of June!

Interior Designer, Fashion Editor & Model, Dominique Alexandra Forsström, is founder of Alexandra Studio, a platform created to share a passion for interior design and all things beautiful. This month, Dominique gives us an insight into how she planned her very own boho chic party to celebrate her 30th Birthday. With feminine touches, attention to detail and an elegant setting, the event showcased her personality and style while still conveying a laid back and natural vibe. Keep reading to discover the steps she took to make this day truly magical, and tips that you can apply when planning your next unforgettable event with family and friends this season! 1.The firstDEFINE THE CONCEPT step in hosting a party is defining a concept or theme you love! This is an essential part because you can’t really plan anything until you’ve chosen your theme. The tool I enjoy using the most when I’m searching for inspiration is Pinterest, as there are plenty of creative ideas that you can be inspired by. I dedicate some time over a few days pinning images and ideas that I like onto a designated board, and thanks to this brainstorming process, the concept normally matures and evolves to something even better than the idea I initially had in mind. After collecting all this information, I normally pinpoint a small selection of the images that I like the most, so the future steps align with the overall aesthetics and style. This step is especially fundamental if you will be counting on others to help you materialise your event, as communicating your ideas can sometimes be a bit tricky and having images to show the look you’re going for makes it a lot easier!
2. DETERMINE YOUR BUDGET Next, decide how much you would like
to spend. This is important because this way you can prioritise which elements you would like to splurge on, and which ones are not so important to you. If you want to go all out, keep in mind that you will need to dedicate a large portion of the budget to rental material like chairs, tables, tableware, flowers, a decorator, a caterer... With a budget in mind and after settling on the basics of the event, you can decide if you would like to go the extra mile to include a beautiful photocall or different wine pairings with the food.
3. WHERE, WHEN & WHO? There has been a recent increase
in the demand for home gatherings and throwing your party at home is a good idea especially if you have the space and are looking for a more intimate setting. Setting a date is also important, as depending on the time
of the year you will need to make sure that it isn’t too hot or cold to host outdoors, and in this case remember to plan accordingly to include heaters or cooling fans. Finally, send your invitations out on time with an RSVP date so you are certain of the number of guests attending to enable you to organise the quantity of rental material, food and beverages. One to two months in advance is a good timescale to work with.
4. ORDER YOUR BIRTHDAY CAKE If you’re planning a birthday party, you mustn’t forget this! Order it a couple of weeks in advance to make sure it’s ready on time, especially if it has a special kind of aesthetic or theme. I wanted to have my favourite type of cake, which is carrot cake, so I sent Deseos de Azúcar (@deseos_de_ azucar) the inspiration images of what I wanted the cake to look like, and we agreed with the flower decorator to create the final touches. Make sure you also purchase nice candles that suit the overall colour palette!
during the party or rushing to make the food in time for the event. In this case, I looked to Grupo Alabardero (@alabardero_catering_oficial), who provided excellent service and food. I had the pleasure of including some of my favourite appetisers like oysters with mango ceviche, homemade guacamole with nachos, as well as a fine selection of Andalusian cheeses. For the main course, I wanted an authentic Andalusian rice, so trusting true local specialists in paella was a natural choice. Another great idea for a party is to hire a profesional chef to cook for you at home and really give the food a centre stage, creating a true sensorial experience for your guests.
5.
PLAN YOUR PARTY FOOD
Unless you are a great cook or enjoy cooking, if there’s one thing I highly recommend enjoying on this special day it’s the luxury of a caterer. This way you can focus on being present and enjoying the day, instead of worrying if everyone has enough to drink

6. TIME TO DECORATE I find this to be one of my favourite
parts of planning a party! I knew that the table was going to be one of the areas we were going to spend the most time, so I really wanted it to take centre stage. I trusted Cecilia Correnggia and her team (@ceci_correnggia) to help me find all the decor items for the party and make a beautiful and harmonious masterpiece. Here are some of the decor elements we used to create this beautiful boho chic table setting:
WILDLY BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS In my opinion, this is the decorative element that will dress up any table and create that wow effect! Natural flowers are my alltime favourite option, but you can opt to combine with dry flowers for that authentic bohemian vibe, placing them along the whole length of the table.
Tip:
Remember that keeping your flowers low allows your guests to easily see each another across the table!
HANDMADE CANDLES As you might already know, candles are one of my favourite accessories to decorate any setting. The lovely team at Angelina Candles (@ candlesbyangelina) created these stunning artisan candles made with energetic crystals especially for the event! I kindly asked for a discount code for my readers, so that you can enjoy them too! Use code DOM30 for 15% off your purchase during the month of June!
AN ECCLECTIC TABLESETTING We created an eclectic tablescape with layered fabric and crêpe runners mixed with an assortment of dishware. I chose a mix of organic ceramic plates and placed them atop detailed transparent chargers with rose gold flatware accents on either side. A pop of colour with a coloured glass for water, combined with a ribbed wineglass added the perfect balance of elegance and charm. The splash of colour provided by a blush toned delicate table runner was exactly what was needed to bring the whole look together.
Tip:
Mix and match your dishware and glasses freely to create the perfect eclectic look on your table.

7Designing . MENU DESIGN your custom menu is a great way to really tie everything together. On this occasion, I designed the menu keeping in mind the general feeling I wanted to create. I chose a beautiful and casual calligraphic style font for the headers, and a more elegant and structured font for the descriptions.
Another point to keep in mind is if you would like free or designated seating. I opted for designated seats for my guests, so I also created custom name tags which we used later in the event for another interesting purpose!
8. ENTERTAINMENT Apart from the food, it’s important to
think about what kind of entertainment you would like to have at your party, whether it’s a live band or a dance floor! I opted to send my guests a playlist where they could add their favourite music to enjoy on the day.
A lovely highlight that we will all remember was the Manifestation Ritual that my sister organised which took place as the sun went down. Each one of us wrote down on our name tags something positive we wanted to manifest on the day, and then we placed them all in the fire to send the message out to the universe!
9. DRESS CODE Setting a dress code was a great way
to really bring the boho chic vibes to the party! Most ladies appeared wearing their favourite long flowy dresses paired with comfortable wedge espadrilles, and the men stayed cool in their fresh linen shirts. This style of clothing ensured everyone was feeling good and comfy the whole evening, and it transitioned perfectly from the warm temperature in the daytime, to the pleasantly refreshing sea breeze at night.
10. ENJOY YOUR EVENING As wonderful as it is to create a beautiful
setting for your guests, they have come to see YOU, so be sure to enjoy your time with them. No one will notice if the napkins aren’t perfect or certain details that didn’t go exactly to plan. What they will remember is the experience they had in your home, so make sure that your focus is more on really being present, going with the flow and spending quality time with your family and friends!
FINISH WITH A SIGNATURE COCKTAIL Incorporating a signature cocktail is a great way to jazz things up and add a personal touch to your party! If you decide to skip a barman, a fun idea is to create the cocktail mix together with some of your friends before the party. I assure you that it will make it even more special, and laughs are guaranteed! I absolutely love passion fruit, so I chose the Pornstar Martini to be my signature cocktail. According to its creator, Douglas Ankrah, this cocktail is described as daring, elegant and playful. To make this zingy passion fruit cocktail, which is perfect for celebrating with friends, you will need:
2 ripe passion fruits, halved 60 ml vanilla vodka 30 ml Passoa liqueur 1 tbsp lime juice 1 tbsp sugar syrup Serve with a shot of chilled Champagne on the side

The Marbella style, which has become the hallmark of a UDesign house, travels well, in this case all the way to the Cayman Islands in the western Caribbean. There is no greater pleasure in life than relaxing in your own sitting room and looking out to sea. Unless, of course, the sea happens to be the Caribbean and you can look out from almost every other room in the house as well, and the house happens to be one of the best designed and most beautifully

decorated luxury villas in the Cayman Islands. “As with all of our projects, natural surroundings and in this case, the sea, was the inspiration for this house,” says Jason Harris, Creative Director and CEO of UDesign, the architecture and interior design group responsible for the design of the villa. “All our colour schemes and most of our
materials have been chosen with this extraordinary location in mind, where almost all the rooms have clear views of the sea.” The Cayman Islands is a self-governing British Overseas Territory of three islands in the Western Caribbean, south of Cuba with Jamaica on one side and Central America on the other. Its climate is tropical, with little
seasonal temperature change. The first Europeans to settle there were a colourful mix of pirates, shipwrecked sailors and deserters from Oliver Cromwell’s army in Jamaica. The islands are now considered to be as close to tropical island paradise as one can get. The villa, both in its architecture and its interior design, is classic UDesign.

The view looking in is almost as good as the view looking out. That means an inside/outside layout, by which the difference between both is minimalised, with windows sliding into walls and uninterrupted flow from the interior to the terraces. Simplicity, rather than cold minimalism, is the key to the overall design, which is contemporary in style. “The house is not huge”, says Jason, “but it feels very spacious, especially with its five-metre-high ceilings in the sitting room and its large bedrooms and light, open spaces. We work as much with intangibles as tangibles, and light plays an important part in our scheme of things. One of our trademarks is the way we use light, and in this design, light is brought into the house in every way possible, including an open courtyard in the cortijo style, allowing for a semi-outside space largely protected from the elements.”

The abstract painting, by local artist Owanto, was the starting point for the design of this living space.

The villa is almost all about the view, but not quite. The view looking in is almost as good as the view looking out. “The inside is filled with colour, set off against fairly neutral tones in the structure. The floors are natural stone rather than polished marble, with a lot of wood,” Jason tells us. “The emerald sea constantly changes colour, and everything there seems brighter and greener. We wanted to reflect that in the interiors, and that’s exactly what we did, as one can see in the photographs. We needed the neutral tones to properly see the artwork, which echo the lush exterior. But the interior courtyard, for example, also shows nature in the raw, because this is a place of rich and varied vegetation.”
lounge, the space probably most used in any contemporary home. Those of us whose work involves communicating with a computer for hours on end would certainly appreciate this.
The interior layout and design makes for easy communication between different areas of the house. The office is close to the main living area, because the client wanted a working area that would not be completely cut off from the social centre of the house. In fact, located as it is with magnificent views of the sea, it is also within talking distance of the kitchen/
“Some of us dream of paradise,” says Jason, “and some lucky few wake up every morning in paradise. We set out to design a villa that would do justice to these extraordinary surroundings. We expect our clients will never grow weary of the views, or of the house they are privileged to live in.”
Dining room, or any room, may not be the most accurate way to describe the different inside spaces of the house, given the open-plan layout in which one area flows into another without traditional doors that open and close. A child on a tricycle whose parents are looking the other way would love this house, its free flow honing the skills of a future Tour winner. The dining area is defined by it having a dining table and chairs, rather than a door that opens on to it. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that this is the dining room, with its UDesigned table and chairs as much The vegetation begins at the entrance, design features guiding one as a place for inside from “Some of us dream of having dinner. the street, and paradise,” says Jason, “and Artworks, pink the views out cushions, yellow to sea begin some lucky few wake up every hanging lamp, immediately. COSTA CUISINE
REGEN AGRICULTURE... Bettina, our resident foodie, offers her insider knowledge on plant based cuisine and takes us on a culinary journey as she travels the world in search of gastronomic inspiration.
What is it and why should everyone be talking about it? We are currently in a world where we not only want to know about what is happening to our world, but we want to do something about it. However, with anything, you always have to sift through the mud in order to find the right and factual information. There are a lot of misconceptions about sustainable agriculture and regenerative agriculture; the word sustainable has been over-used and is now, I believe, being misused. Being used as a key buzz marketing word rather than for its initial purpose. So, before we get into what you came here for, I think we need to have a bit of a recap lesson.
What is Sustainability? Broken down into its basic form, sustainability means that something is at the ability to continue to be maintained at any given level or rate. Basically, it means meeting, providing and fulfilling our own needs without disrupting or compromising anyone else’s – now – or in the future - to be able to meet their own. This works on both a social and an economic level and is attributed to all resources one needs to survive and thrive.
So how does that translate to agriculture? This attributes by adding a loose set of rules and practices farmers have to follow in order to sustain the viability of their land and working within the natural processes ability, rather than working against or
110
destroying them. As I mentioned earlier, this has now become more of a term favoured among those in higher positions to show that they are following the best practices and ticking the right boxes on consumer products to satisfy the population. As long as they are ensuring that the yield they are creating, whether that be tomatoes, or potatoes are benefiting the environment more than the amount they are creating they are good to go – but… it’s not quite that simple. Being sustainable isn’t quite enough anymore. Certain companies who are able to be labelled as sustainable due to following the practice outlaw of benefiting more than they are taking, may often be using excessive force and uneconomic practices alongside such as, by using fertilizers and pesticides; that’s where Regan Agriculture comes in.
Okay ~ So What is Regan Agriculture? Shortened from Regenerative Agriculture – this method of farming is a combined system that includes both the principles and the practices of farmers to ensure that they are doing everything sustainable mentioned above, but going one step further – by also doing all they can to enhance and rehabilitate our ecosystem.
Hold on ~ Break That Down a Little More, Please. It may sound confusing, but it’s basically a levelled-up system to that of the sustainable one. Making sure that they are not only maintaining the systems without degrading them but also helping to regenerate them too, while trying to

reverse the damage from climate change. This takes into consideration helping to increase and enrich soil fertility, increase the biodiversity and improve watershed. All in all – it wants to reverse the current and previous damage and control any further damage before it happens. This system works across the entire board – above and below the soil, and is more of a dynamic and holistic approach than that of its sustainable sister.
years, goes one more (but one very important) step further to ensure that they are improving the land, too.
But How Does It Work?
So why is it so Important?
Without getting too technical, the Regen workers incorporate all of the best bits from organic, sustainable and permaculture farming to improve the well-being of our environment. This includes crop rotation, composting, cover crops, conservation tillage, pasture cropping and at the top of it all – increasing topsoil.
This type of agriculture goes way beyond sustainability. It’s practices not only maintains and controls the resources its working with but also helps to improve them at the same time. This ‘do no harm’ sustainable attitude which has been adopted across the Globe throughout the
Each practice laid out by this system helps to improve the natural resources and restore a natural balance so there’s no need for additional and man-made products that aggressively disturb the soil such as the fertilisers and pesticides mentioned earlier.
Unlike its description, to adapt this format is actually pretty simple. You just need to become more aware of what companies you are purchasing from. Support regenerative farmers and agriculture advocates. Grow you own food at home or in a community garden and put in these practices yourself. Help the soil renew by composting your own waste to regenerate your own land and educate yourself on the differences and the difference it makes.

Sitting in the living room of our Brighton home last night I was telling my fiancé I wasn’t sure what to write this month’s articles about. I usually draw inspiration from scientific advances, global news, cultural and social foibles etc. but nothing had jumped out at me recently. Gamely, she began brainstorming. It went something like this:
112
GEMMA: Something pandemic-y? ME: I want to avoid that really, keep it light. GEMMA: You’ve just built a deck in the garden. Could you do something about decking? ME: “Errr, I’ll keep that one in my back pocket” GEMMA (stroking the dog): “DOGS!! do something about dogs.” ME: “Did that a few issues back” GEMMA: “Hmmmm... (sips her wine) Ooh, the pubs are open again!! 10 best pubs in Brighton!?” ME: “Spanish magazine.” GEMMA (eyes darting desperately round the room and settling on the window): “Errrr..... condensation” ME: “What were you saying about decking?” GEMMA (walking to the fridge to get more cheese): Cheese??... ME: It’s a proper magazine darling, they have Lady Gaga on the cover. I can’t get away with 900 words about cheese.” GEMMA: You did that article about drunk animals.” …...
Did you know cheese (pronounced ch-eeeeese) was likely being produced some 7 ½ millennia ago? Strainers coated with milk fat molecules unearthed in Poland suggest cheesemaking may have taken place long before those classic doodlers the Ancient Egyptians confirmed it with some good old tomb graffiti around 2000BCE. In the years since, the yellowy wonderstuff has gradually taken the world by storm, boosted by the world’s first factory for industrial cheese production in Switzerland in 1815, then turbocharged by the rapid expansion of large scale production in mid 19th Century America. Today, we can’t even eat pizza without covering it in the stuff and such comfort foods as “cheese macaroni” and “toast below cheese” are ubiquitous staples of British homes. Ok, I’ve decided at this point the rest of the article will basically be cheese facts but some of the facts won’t actually be facts, they’ll be nonsense, carefully disguised as facts with brilliant writing. See if you can work out which are which. Winner gets some cheese.
There are estimated to be nearly 2000 types of cheese. Several of them are in my fridge right now.

The 1987 action film Tough Cheese starred Steven Seagal as New York cop Rock Powers. Estranged from his wife and young son due to his alcoholism and unerring refusal to cut his ponytail, Seagal’s character nevertheless finds redemption whilst battling a marauding army of disgruntled dairy cows. At the film’s culmination, Seagal flicks a match into his liquor cabinet, detonating his house, his dependence on booze and with it the herd of stampeding Bessies. The line, delivered to deadpan perfection as scorched beef rains down, “I forgot to say..... I’m lactose intolerant” was apparently ad-libbed by Seagal. Although one of the actor’s better films, its release was overshadowed that year by Predator, because that one had Arnie in it and the bad guy wasn’t a cow.

As a wedding present, Queen Victoria (1819—1901) was gifted a gigantic wheel of cheddar cheese weighing some 450 kilos. Half a ton! With the wedding occurring just six weeks after Christmas, one presumes there was already a fair bit of cheese still knocking about the gaff so the gesture seems even more excessive. Calculating the amount of crackers needed to polish that off and taking into account their extremely low density and substantial surface area : weight ratio, you can see why these toffs need such big palaces.... That’s before you even get into all the chutneys and other accoutrements.

such, cheese is classified as mildly addictive and users may even feel withdrawal when cutting it out. So, don’t just go cold turkey... Stick a slice of brie and some cranberry in there too.

The holes in Swiss cheese, once thought to be signs of imperfection are now intrinsically identified as desired characteristics. Probably the work of the same marketing genius who convinced us Polo mints and Curly Wurly chocolate bars were more fun than their rivals even though you’re essentially paying to enjoy a substantial absence of the thing you’re buying.

Scientists (really weird, gross ones) successfully created cheese using human bacteria gathered from belly buttons and toes. In the words of Jurassic
Park’s Ian Malcolm but about dinosaurs, not cheese. “...your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” They shouldn’t.

industry told us ciggies weren’t harmful, sooooo... But then I suppose if you fall asleep quicker there’s actually less time to buy cheese so why would they lie...? Hold on, if you fall asleep quicker, you should wake up earlier the next day as other studies show earlier nights result in better quality sleep, so actually more time awake to buy cheese. Those sneaky cheesy bastards. I bet it was them that made it addictive too.

The moon is often jokingly referred to as being made of cheese. The earliest record of the fallacy is a medieval yarn in which a cunning fox convinces a pursuing wolf that the moon’s reflection on a pond is a submerged wheel of cheese. The greedy fox then drinks the entire pond to get to the food, bursting with the effort and allowing the fox to go free.... It’s a frankly ridiculous story, littered with plot holes, and the fact that centuries later it led NASA to spend billions sending a ravenous Neil Armstrong on a 240,000 mile trip to bitter disappointment is frankly embarrassing for the US.

Ridiculous “articles” about cheese don’t get published in glossy magazines. Their writers get told to buck their ideas up and submit something worth printing.

Contrary to claims that cheese gives you nightmares (belly-button-toecheese has to), a study by the British Cheese Board reports that eating cheese before bed actually aids sleep, the high quota of the amino acid tryptophan sending you off quicker. Of course, that’s the

Marbella Council has renewed agreements with charities Bancosol and Crece, and has doubled the amount being given to €100,000 to help support vulnerable families. Bancosol, a food bank, had an increase in funds from €32,000 last year to €57,000. They will now be able to continue to serve five associations in Marbella, and they have notably been able to distribute a total of 61,000 kilos of food since January. Crece is an association dedicated to the attention and integration of children with learning disabilities. With the increase in the funds granted to €47,000, the president, Mariluz Martínez, highlighted that the help that the Council has given will prove to be useful after a difficult year for their users, mainly children with disabilities, and that the funds will be used to run the association’s day-to-day operations. “Essential oils are aromatic, concentrated plant extracts that are carefully obtained through steam distillation, cold pressing, or resin tapping. The Meliá Marbella Banús hotel reopened on May 13th, after closing at the end of last season with only 35% of its workforce. Now that it is open once again for the summer season, that number has doubled to 70%, and the hotel expects to have the entire workforce back by the middle of next month. Expectations have been exceeded with the figures of the Hotel Gran Meliá Don Pepe, and summer 2021 is anticipated to be a drastic improvement from the previous year. The ‘Stay Safe with Meliá’ programme has been enforced since last summer, with cleaning, hygiene and social distancing measures intended to protect employees and clients with minimal contact involved. For many people, social media can become a space where we turn to stay informed with what’s happening with the world and our friends and family. Unfortunately, it can get to a point where comparisons get the best of us. As social media platforms are regarded as a fundamental part of our daily lives, it becomes an unhealthy obsession that can lead to low self-esteem, isolation, depression and anxiety, or can even affect us physically by making us neglect basic needs such as sleeping and eating. At Marbella-based rehab Villa Paradiso, social media addiction can be combatted through in-patient treatment sessions with their trained team. After the treatment has been completed, the patient will be checked up on over a 12-month period with one-to-one sessions and recovery support groups. As a result of this treatment, many people have recovered from their intense addictions and are now social media-free.

The Marbella Design Academy graduates of June 2021 organised a fabulous fashion catwalk event on 7 May to exhibit their final collections on the lovely terrace of the Academy. From the audience, select local industry leaders, media, friends and family members admired the show from the audience. Despite being faced with complications arising from the pandemic, the Academy ensured that students were able to produce and showcase their final collections at a live event, not a digital runway. This year’s graduating class has shown that with passion anything is possible, and these challenges have made them more equipped for their professional futures. Congratulations to the class of ‘21!
