AWARDS

FOR EXCELLENCE

We are delighted to announce that Chewton Glen and Cliveden House have each been awarded 2 Michelin Keys by The MICHELIN Guide. This exemplary award is a testament to both properties’ unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences. It reflects the dedication and passion of the teams, whose hard work continues to elevate every stay.

The Lygon Arms, The Mayfair Townhouse, The Chelsea Townhouse and Cliveden House were all named in the Condé Nast Traveler’s 2024 US Readers’ Choice Awards - thank you to all who voted for them.

Iconic Luxury Hotels did well in the Condé Nast Traveller UK Reader’s Choice Awards, too, with some fantastic results for the countryside properties, featuring Chewton Glen in The Best Spa category, while both Cliveden House and The Lygon Arms were highlighted in the Best Hotel, Europe category.

Cliveden House has been awarded the Best Spa Hotel UK & Ireland category in The Luxury Spa Edit Awards 2024. A prestigious accolade that honours only the very best of elite spas, clinics, wellness retreats and spa brands around the globe, so this is a testament to our incredible team for their passion and dedication.

Meanwhile in the Cotswolds, The Lygon Arms was named both Large Hotel of the Year, and Business Events Venue of the Year, in the Visit Worcestershire Tourism Awards, whilst also achieving the AA 4 Red Star Award: Inspector’s Choice.

The Mayfair Townhouse has been named as one of the top hotels in the world by Travel + Leisure Co., snapping up a coveted spot on the prestigious T+L 500 List! This recognition reflects the team’s dedication to creating unforgettable guest experiences that are curiously unexpected, yet reassuringly Mayfair.

And finally, The Chelsea Townhouse was proudly named a 2025 Fodor’s Finest Hotel, recognising the property as one of the top 100 hotels in the world. These properties were selected based on the insights of more than 750 experts, with The Chelsea Townhouse highlighted as a luxurious ‘home-away-from-home’, with spacious suites, charming interior design, and a prime location.

Dear Friends,

As an eternal optimist, I am always in search of the proverbial ‘silver lining,’ and to that end one of my favourite upsides to an exceptionally soggy summer is the most incredible, long-lasting autumn colours. If you aren’t tied to school holidays, it’s a great time to shoehorn in an extra couple of days to recharge ahead of the inevitably busy festive season, whilst the English countryside is exceptionally peaceful and often, in fact, deserted.

Don’t be tempted to procrastinate though, as the weeks will inevitably fly by, and soon the magic of Christmas will be in full swing - a favourite time for many to soak up the bright lights and pop-up markets. If Christmas shopping isn’t your thing, then gifting an unforgettable experience is easy with an impressive array of vouchers available from Iconic, from afternoon teas to spa breaks and cookery classes to Treehouse weekends. All are available online or just a simple phone call away.

If you’re already missing the sun, then at long last, we have the answer - Palm House in Palm Beach, Florida. Iconic’s first US property will be opening very soon, and I can’t tell you how excited we are to be expanding our wonderful collection of unique hotels across the pond, in such a stunning location.

Once again, it was great to have the opportunity to see so many of you over the summer months and I hope that for those of you who didn’t make it, we will have the chance to welcome you back soon. Your continued support is always appreciated.

Best wishes

THE DEEP SLEEP

Experience ultimate relaxation with our exclusive new OSKIA treatment at The Cliveden Spa and The Lygon Spa. Begin your journey with a complimentary, refreshing juice upon arrival, then unwind completely with a luxurious and soothing treatment designed to melt your stress away.

Created to help promote a restful night’s sleep through circadian syncing techniques, the treatment incorporates methodical massaging with a selection of mists, oils and balms, which include sleep-inducing ingredients such as magnesium and melatonin. The harmonious blend works to promote deeper relaxation and a sound night’s sleep, in turn, positively impacting skin vitality, the immune system and mental well-being.

COUNTING SHEEP is a new forthcoming collaboration with Oskia and Chewton Glen and Lygon Spas. A joint treatment for both an adult and child (8-16 years), the 45-minute relaxation session takes place together in a double treatment room. There will be a gift for the child to take home, and at Chewton Glen, guests can as always opt to take one of the resident Teddy Bear sheep for a walk either before or after their session!

The Lygon Spa are incorporating this treatment into an evening spa experience. Available Sunday to Thursday, it includes a 60-minute Oskia ‘The Deep Sleep’ treatment, access to the spa facilities for up to four hours (from 4.30pm - 8.30pm), and a complimentary drink on arrival.

IT’S GAME, SET, AND MATCH

for Chewton Glen with a brand-new resurfacing of the indoor tennis centre, whilst the outdoor tennis courts have been updated to include markings for the popular game of pickleball. Fast becoming one of the most popular racket sports in the world, pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Like tennis, players can play as both singles and doubles, using paddles to hit a plastic ball between them. The courts are free for residents to use, simply book at the main or spa reception. For those interested in spa or tennis membership, please visit www.chewtonglen.com/spa-wellness/membership for more information.

WALK, RUN, OR CYCLE THIS WAY...

The estate at Chewton Glen is always a pleasure to walk around in every season. Blossoms abound in spring, the branches are laden with ripe apples in The Orchard in late summer, the autumnal colours glow, and a dusting of bejewelled frost makes the grounds enchanting in winter. Now, a 3.8km trail has been created through the heart of the grounds, to be enjoyed at any pace, whether it’s a gentle stroll, energetic jog, or a pleasant bike ride.

Starting at the secluded Walled Garden, the trail leads through The Orchard and past the beehives, taking guests through wilder areas of the estate where deer are regularly spotted. The trail skirts the new football pitch and training track – a perfect place to improve personal bests – and past the newly refurbished tennis centre and pickleball courts, too. The game of pooh sticks is actively encouraged at both stream crossings, and you can always end your adventure with a leisurely game of croquet and drinks on the terrace, as you come full circle and arrive back at the house.

MONPURE AT CLIVEDEN HOUSE

The Cliveden Spa has welcomed Monpure’s unique range of treatments into their exclusive offering. The world’s first dedicated scalp and hair health brand, their products improve hair growth and scalp health, and are meticulously formulated with active ingredients like retinol, vegan silk peptides, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C and coenzyme Q10.

From Farm to throw

Chewton Glen is excited to partner with Gather, a brand born from their love of sheep. They have their own pedigree flocks of Coloured Ryelands and Black Welsh Mountains, along with a desire to produce beautiful 100% British wool blankets and products which are sustainable and traceable. Chewton Glen’s own flock of Ryeland Teddy Bear sheep were shorn earlier this year, and the fleeces processed into wool, ready for weaving. Boutique Manager Keely van Dam is now collaborating with Gather to create a unique design especially for Chewton Glen, resulting in a luxurious wool blanket made from 100% un-dyed Ryeland wool from the Chewton flock. This fabulous gift will soon be available for purchase in the Chewton Glen boutique.

Wrap Up warm

During the pandemic, Gather owners Rhian and Mark realised the potential for partnership with other smallholders when Rhian didn’t have enough of her own fleeces to send for spinning, so they joined forces with others in the same position. Gather pride themselves on paying considerably more than market value for the fleeces they procure, ensuring that working together offers a viable and sustainable venture for their partners. They work with the finest British mills who utilise traditional techniques and processes, and only the best material makes it into their products. Highly skilled weaving experts then create designs and patterns which are hand-woven into samples for review, allowing Gather to trial new ideas exploring intricate patterns and natural dyes to decide how their next collection will look.

HIDDEN STORIES beautifully revealed

IN THE LIGHT OF THE HALF MOON…

The Mayfair Townhouse lines the now illustrious Half Moon Street, in one of the most sought-after areas of London. This street played a central role in Oscar Wilde’s most famous play, The Importance of Being Earnest, satirising Victorian social hypocrisy. Published in 1899, the play was widely considered to be Wilde’s greatest dramatic achievement. In Wilde’s time, Half Moon Street was a known haunt for bachelors, colourful bohemians, and artistic types in Victorian London. Many of the townhouses were split into residential apartments for the elite to enjoy independent lives prior to marriage – The Importance of Being Earnest’s Algernon Moncreiff was one such bachelor, as was Bertie Wooster in P. G. Wodehouse’s famous comedies.

Built from 1730, Half Moon Street is steeped in history and hasn’t always had the prestige that it does today. Named after the raucous “Half Moon” public house which stood

on the corner with Piccadilly, (where Oscar Wilde spent much of his free time) the street’s historical and cultural significance is highlighted by its inspiration for, and association with, prominent figures in literature and the arts. Samuel Johnson’s biographer, James Boswell, lived there in 1768. His work, “Life of Johnson,” is considered a definitive biography in English literature. English writer, critic, painter and social commentator William Hazlitt lived at No.40, Half Moon Street from 1827 – 1829, now considered one of the greatest critics and essayists in the history of the English language, as did renowned World War I poet, Wilfred Owen in 1918, known for his hauntingly poignant war poetry. American author Henry James resided at No.7, Half Moon Street in 1868 on his arrival in London. A major novelist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, his work examines European society’s effect on the American way of life.

Nearby Shepherd Market was also built around the same time as Half Moon Street (between 1735 and 1746), by local architect Edward Shepherd. At the time, it contained paved alleys, a duck pond, and a two-story market with a theatre. During the 1920s, this was a rundown area with a red-light reputation, which lasted until at least the 1980s. The area proved popular with writers and artists throughout the 20th century, including Michael Arlen, who, like Wilde, penned satirical romances set in English smart society; he was also a dandy-styled figure, impeccably mannered and always dressed in the latest fashions, often seen driving around town in a yellow Rolls Royce. Arlen rented rooms opposite The Grapes public house and set his best-selling 1924 novel, ‘The Green Hat’, there.

Nods to Wilde’s legacy can be found in the flamboyance and wit woven throughout the décor and character of The Townhouse. His inimitable style blended rebel with dandy, reflected in his quote, “you can never be overdressed or overeducated.” From the wit that runs through the unique art collection on the walls, to the Swarovski-studded peacock, Alfie, who greets guests in the lobby (affectionately named after Wilde’s lover, the poet Lord Alfred Douglas), unexpected beauty and cleverly placed delights are found around each corner. Wilde’s championing of the Aesthetic Movement, which later also popularised the style of Art Nouveau, provided inspiration for The Dandy Bar, at the heart of The Townhouse. A fabulous place to see and be seen; with a darkly seductive atmosphere, the design of the Art Nouveau glass decoration above the bar and Dandy velvet jackets donned by the bartenders all contribute to this sumptuous sense of refined style. Even the expressive, avant-garde cocktails found on the menu cleverly nod to this inspiration, such as ‘The Dandy’ and ‘Wilde West’. Within these walls, the Dandy spirit truly lives on.

TRENDS 2025 TRAVEL LUXURY SABBATICALS...

continue to blur the line between business and leisure, adding to the bleisure trend that has been gaining traction for some time now. Originating from Silicon Valley and now popular with forward-thinking firms, companies are offering luxury travel sabbaticals for the creative talents within their numbers. The concept not only supports a positive culture of health and wellness, but employees return with a refuelled sense of purpose, vigour and revitalised creative thinking.

For those that can’t take months off at a time, it’s worth considering the rejuvenating luxury retreats offered at both Cliveden House and Chewton Glen to make the most of the beautiful grounds at both properties this autumn.

SOLO TRIPPING

is already making strong headway as a leading travel trend, offering peace and reflection, not to mention a quick recharge and refresh of the social battery. 76% of Gen Z and Millennials have planned solo trips in 2024, and this trend is set to grow in momentum. The Mayfair Townhouse offers the perfect place to explore London, with the cosy cabin rooms just right for the solo traveller who plans to make the most of the city.

Head to The Palomar, recommended by The Townhouse’s knowledgeable Head Concierge, Riyas Kallan. You can watch the chefs working their magic in the nobookings ‘Kitchen Bar’ – perfect for those dining solo. Friendly staff encourage you to experiment with the sharing menu, which blends nonkosher Levantine cooking with modern influences from Spain, Italy and North Africa.

has been a popular trend for some time now. At The Lygon Arms, you can combine a trip to the Cotswolds and take part in a volunteering day HOEF, (Heart of England Forest), or simply plant a tree to commemorate your stay or celebration at The Lygon Arms – a lovely touch to commemorate a wedding, special birthday celebration, a loved one, or as a team-building event.
