TecPlata receives new equipment
TecPlata S.A. (TecPlata) recently took delivery of four new quay cranes (QC) and seven rubber tired gantries (RTG), which arrived on board Zhen Hua 20 last 7 December 2013. The new QCs and RTGs were manufactured by Chinese heavyduty equipment manufacturer ZPMC. TecPlata is the manager and operator of the La Plata Container Terminal.
AGCT cited for contribution to maritime economy Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) was one of the awardees during the recent celebration of Seafarers’ Day in Split, Croatia organized by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure. The ministry recognized AGCT’s key role in the development of the maritime economy due to the expansion of AGCT’s container terminal estimated to cost €30 million and the increase in terminal capacity because of new equipment worth €23 million. PICT wins 3rd Fire & Safety Award Pakistan International Container Terminal Ltd. (PICT) won the third Fire & Safety Award jointly given by the Fire Protection Association of Pakistan and the National Forum for Environment and Health last 17 December 2013 in Karachi, Pakistan. PICT also won the second Fire & Safety Award in 2012. CMSA bids for ISO certifications
Contecon Manzanillo, S.A. de C.V. (CMSA) has undergone certification audits for ISO 9001, 14001, 28001, and OHSAS 18001. CMSA hired LRQA to conduct the audits and verification, which are mandatory prior to getting certified. The certification process, which covers quality, environment, safety, supply chain and occupational health, was rolled out last 20 May 2013. CMSA manages and operates the Specialized Container Terminal-2. (Pamela de la Vega)
ICTSI completes sale of Cebu subsidiary International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) completed the sale of its subsidiary, Cebu International Container Terminal, Inc. (CICTI), to Cebu Asian Rim Property and Development Corp. (CARPDC) Hongkong Land (Philippines) BV (HKL) last 13 January. ICTSI and CICTI’s other shareholders as sellers and CARPDC and HKL as buyers executed a Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) last 28 November 2013. CICTI is the registered owner of a parcel of land with an area approximately 200,000 square meters located in Mandaue City, Philippines. ICTSI previously owned 51 percent of CICTI.

Blessing of HIPS’ new equipment and facility Hijo International Port Services, Inc.’s (HIPS) new mobile harbor crane, reach stacker and Port Powerhouse were blessed in Madaum, Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Philippines last 21 November 2013. Among the 32 key officers, guests and staff present were Rosanna Tuason-Fores (center), Hijo Resources Corp. (HRC) President and Chief Executive Officer; Jose Manuel de Jesus (right), International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) Vice President for Business Development-Asia; Atty. Cheryll Ann Chamen, HRC Legal Services Vice President; Jacqueline Luy, HRC People Management and Administrative Services Vice President; Armando Pineda, HRC Operations Vice President; Roberto Solitaria, HRC Leisure and Tourism Vice President; Juancho Sabban, HRC Security Services Vice President; and Allan Templa, HRC Port Development Consultant. Fr. Kim Muñez, Madaum Parish Priest, officiated the blessing. In November 2012, ICTSI entered a joint venture with HRC, and established HIPSI to develop and manage the Hijo International Port. ICTSI supports PHL footballers’ campaign in Special Olympics ICTSI Foundation, Inc. (ICTSI-FI), the corporate social responsibility arm of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with The Henry V. Moran Foundation, Inc. (THVMF) to support the campaign of the Philippine Specials football team to the Special Olympics Asia-Pacific Games in Newcastle, Australia. “We are grateful to have the ICTSI Foundation as our partner in the regional campaign of the Philippine Specials team. This is a very important game as this is the qualifying round for the Los Angeles Special Olympics in 2015. We are glad that the ICTSI Foundation and THVMF have aligned advocacies in youth and sports. The support of ICTSI has not only boosted the morale of the players, but has added prestige to the team as they are carrying with them ICTSI, a Philippine global brand,” says Daniel Moran, THVMF Chairman and President. In reply, Narlene Soriano, ICTSI-FI Executive Director, said: “We believe in this very worthy cause. The Philippine Specials has all the elements that the ICTSI Foundation supports: the youth, the marginalized, and the athlete representing the country. We are proud to be the lead-benefactor together with THVMF as the team will compete overseas and carry the Philippine flag. They are a source of inspiration and proof that the mentally challenged can contribute to society.” The MOA was signed by Mr. Moran and Filipina Laurena, ICTSI-FI

The special footballers are under the care of Elsie Gaches Village and Nayon ng Kabataan Center, institutions under the Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development. The team also has five footballers from the Baguio City Special Education Center. In the MOA, ICTSI-FI committed to provide financial assistance for the air travel of 15 footballers to and from Manila and Sydney. The players of the team are defenders Marlon Estares, Ricky Caridad, Rusto Mulle, Jeremiah Tundagui, Jerry Sanchez Jr., Rommel Bautista and Andrew Milo; strikers Raymond Elona and Jovel Banunot; mid field Paul John Nicolas, Delmer Tawatao, Marlon Lumokso, Michael Jordan; and goal keepers Raymund Galiste and Leonardo Limbaga Jr. The coaches are Jess Landagan and Abner Reacacho from Manila and Maribeth Javarata from Baguio. The Special Olympics 2013 Asia Pacific Games will gather 32 countries from across the Asia Pacific region. Over 2,500 athletes, 6,000 officials and supporters locally and abroad, and 200,000 spectators will converge in the Newcastle-Hunter region for the duration of the games. Special athletes will compete across nine sports: aquatics, athletics, badminton, basketball, bocce, cricket, football, table tennis and ten pin bowling.

ICTSI Foundation aids Mindanao schools By Jes Vinson
ICTSI Foundation, Inc. (ICTSI-FI), with its continuous commitment to support and maximize the growth potentials of the youth through various channels such as education, recently implemented projects in its beneficiary schools in Davao City and General Santos City in the Philippines. In partnership with Davao Integrated Port and Stevedoring Services Corp., the Foundation renovated F. Bangoy Central Elementary School’s existing Alternative Learning System (ALS) classroom. ICTSI-FI also provided a new multimedia projector to improve integration of technology in the ALS curriculum. On the other hand, F. Bangoy National High School’s Technology and Livelihood Education Culinary Arts Room was also renovated and provided with culinary arts tools and equipment like gas ranges,
ovens, power blenders, baking tables, cabinets and baking tools. This will benefit over a thousand students enrolled in the school. In General Santos City, the Foundation, in partnership with South Cotabato Integrated Port Services, Inc., installed a total of 12 Reading Nooks in four elementary schools. The beneficiary schools of about 1,000 kindergarten students were Balunto Elementary School, Salundin Anas Elementary School, P. Kindat Elementary School and Labangal Elementary School. The Foundation also donated a risograph machine to the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) Division of General Santos City, which will be used in the reproduction of educational materials for the implementation of the K to 12 curriculum.

ICTSI-FI staff, ICTSI volunteers hold Christmas outreach
By Marie Bernadette de Guzman Last December 2013, ICTSI Foundation, Inc. (ICTSI-FI) staff, together with International Container Terminal Services, Inc. employee-volunteers, conducted its annual Christmas outreach, which benefited a total of 1,740 abandoned, abused and differently-abled children, young adults and elderly from five institutions under the auspices of the Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), City of Manila and an international religious organization. Christmas packs comprised of food items, hygiene kits, laundry and cleaning materials were distributed to the residents of Elsie Gaches Village, Nayon ng Kabataan and Graces (formerly Golden Acres) under the DSWD; Manila Boys Town under the Manila Department of Social Welfare, City of Manila; and Missionaries of Charity under a private international religious organization. During the day-long outreach, the volunteers entertained the residents, held fellowship activities and games, and provided lunch to all the participants. The Foundation’s annual activity was called Handog Salu-Salo at Regalo sa Pasko (Feasting and Gift-giving this Christmas), which reached out to the marginalized sectors of society during the Christmas season.

ICTSI-FI holds Handog Salu-Salo sa Pasko (Christmas Sharing and Feasting)
For the last 2 years, ICTSI Foundation, Inc. (ICTSI-FI) implemented the Handog Salu-Salo sa Pasko, a Christmas party for children in the 10 day care centers of Parola, Isla Puting Bato in Manila and the two Rosauro Almario Elementary School Annexes in the area. In 2013, ICTSI-FI continued this tradition by providing “kiddie” meals to 1,962 children of the day care centers and elementary school annexes. ICTSI at Oregon potato trade meet International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) was among the resource organizations for a meeting organized by the Oregon Department of Agriculture and the Oregon Potato Commission for Philippine potato importers. Held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Makati City, Philippines last November 2013, the meeting was part of a three-city roadshow, which included Taipei, Taiwan and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, promoting Oregon’s thriving potato trade. Potato trade between the Philippines and the United States has strong potential, and ICTSI Philippine ports and Terminal 6 in Portland, Oregon are well positioned to handle this trade. Roberto Locsin of the Office of the Asia Regional Head discussed the Philippines’ logistics value chain and terminal operations and efficiencies at ICTSI’s flagship Manila International Container Terminal. 10

ICTSI at PROMEXICO Investment Manila International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) recently participated in the PROMEXICO Investment Manila meet organized by the Mexican Embassy in Manila and the PhilippineMexican Business Council. Roberto Locsin of the ICTSI Office of the Asia Regional Head was among the resource persons. Mr. Locsin discussed, among others, ICTSI’s investment in Mexico, through subsidiary Contecon Manzanillo, S.A. de C.V. and its plans for the Specialized Container Terminal-2 (SCT-2) at the Port of Manzanillo in Colima Province, Mexico. He underscored the importance of the SCT-2 in its network of terminals in the Americas in the light of a booming Mexican economy and the regional NAFTA economy. The PROMEXICO event was held at The Peninsula Manila last September 2013.
AGCT presents key developments in Slovak Republic
Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) was invited as a special guest at the annual conference of the Association of Logistics and Forwarders of the Slovak Republic held last 13 November 2013. Phillip Marsham, AGCT Chief Executive Officer, presented recent developments such as terminal expansion, new equipment acquisitions, and Croatia’s membership in the European Union, which have increased the interest of the Slovak market in AGCT. This presentation was a part of the AGCT Commercial Department’s strategy of opening new markets and making the terminal a gateway for eastern and central Europe. All the logistics companies in Slovakia are members of the association. (Iva Roman)

(YRDICTL) welcomed the new Japanese Kanto route operated by Qingdao Marine Noah’s Ark Shipping Co., Ltd., and serviced the 2,760-TEU Conti Brisbane during its maiden call last 8 December 2013. ICTSI Oregon, Port of Portland attend TPM Asia Conference
Officers and executives of ICTSI Oregon, Inc. (ICTSI Oregon) and the Port of Portland recently attended the TPM Asia Conference held in Shenzhen, China where they had the opportunity to listen to a series of in-depth sessions with senior executives focusing on the container trade and logistics in the Trans-Pacific Market from an Asian perspective. They also had the opportunity to network with other industry people on a range of urgent issues affecting container shipping in the Trans-Pacific Trade. After the conference, ICTSI Oregon and the Port of Portland traveled to South Korea and Taiwan where they made sales calls at various ocean carriers such as Hanjin, Hyundai, Evergreen and Yang Ming to secure new business for Terminal 6 in Portland, Oregon in the United States. In addition, they made sales calls at both existing and potential importers and exporters who do business in Oregon such as Federal Tire, Hansol Paper and Fred Meyer / Kroger Stores.
