Moving Outdoors
As editor of Ideal-LIVING magazine, I have the great opportunity to speak with engaging people throughout the U.S. and around the world. These conversations lead me to value the spirit of people who choose to relocate and start a new life at retirement. Instead of staying in their current life, they have the bravery and the sense of adventure to begin anew. They tend to lead a happy, fulfilled existence where a sense of community permeates. These adventurers are able to make lasting friendships through shared experiences when they relocate. Talking with readers and people who have relocated leaves me ever hopeful for a better tomorrow and excitement about the future.
This year has brought many challenges for us all, and I hope that people have developed a better appreciation for some of the simpler things in life. One of those things is just getting out and breathing in the fresh air, and that’s a lot easier to do, especially if you live in a planned amenity community with walking trails. During the pandemic, you can get out and enjoy the open spaces and outdoor living opportunities better in these communities.
Outdoor living is the theme of this fall’s Ideal-L IVING Ideal Home in Kingfish Bay in Calabash, NC (page 48). The home is designed to incorporate the outdoors with the indoors with fabulous outdoor living spaces

that include a custom-designed pool and living space with retractable screens, not to mention a spacious interior design where the kitchen, main living area, primary bedroom suite, and upper porch, all overlooking the outdoor living space.
Incorporating outdoor living is a major theme in home design today, as you will see in the third annual Parade of Ideal Homes on page 95, where we feature top builders from around the country. This is a great place to gather ideas for your new home. The open living areas will comfortably accommodate gatherings when we are able to entertain in the home again.
And, to help our readers to escape the congestion of the big cities and find a place where they can live out an ideal life, we are hosting our first-ever Ideal-LIVING Virtual Resort & Retirement shows this September (show program on page 39). We are very excited to offer our readers the first chance to attend a virtual real estate show from the comfort of their home where they can watch informative seminars and speak with community representatives about life in their area. We hope to see you. I will be available throughout the show weekends to live chat if you have questions.
We look forward to seeing you at the VIRTUAL event and helping you find your ideal destination, life, and home this fall.
