Compare Communities
1. LOCATION
Pick a state or choose to live abroad. What region? Coast, Inland, Mountain, or Island? Next choose a city. Start with a place that you have vacationed for years or one that you have always wanted to visit. Or, you can be more methodical in choosing based on taxes, cost of living, and quality of life considerations. You may want to consider proximity to services that you will need such as healthcare, shopping, entertainment, recreation, travel, education, community involvement, and family.
2. COMMUNITY TYPE
Each master-planned community has a different feel. For example, there are active adult/55+ communities or multi-generational communities, if you like the sound of children. Golf communities are incredibly well maintained, and even attract those who don’t play. Or, maybe you are interested in gated, waterfront or mountain communities. The point is that there is a community type for everyone.
3. AMENITIES
While the most popular amenity is walking trails, the fastest growing sport among the 50+ age group is pickleball. Some golf communities have from one to six golf courses, or maybe there is a golf course near the community. Community pools, athletic clubs, equestrian facilities, or boating might be more your speed. Choose how you want to spend your life, and find a community that has the amenities that meet your needs on the following pages.
