Finding Community in Wendell Falls

The Raleigh metro has been among the fastest growing for many years, expanding to new satellite towns, including Wendell, NC. For over five decades, Newland has developed planned amenity communities throughout the country, including the new community of Wendell Falls, only 15 minutes from Raleigh.

“It’s the neighbors, the people you live with that makes it or breaks it. We have a real community here,” says Patti Luczak. She and her husband, Greg, were tired of the cold winters in Chicago and found their new home in Encore at Wendell Falls by David Weekley Homes. “This area is growing in leaps and bounds with retail and restaurants. We’re in the 55+ community, which is great because we're all kind of here for the same thing. We’ve worked our whole lives, and now it’s time to enjoy life and enjoy the people. There’s always something going on here.”

Greg has fully retired and is extremely active in the community. An experienced nurse, Patti has gone back to work remotely after retiring, but she is still loving life after relocating. Being a nurse, medical facilities were very important to her. She said, “I’ve never seen so many so many medical facilities in my life. Medical care just seems a lot more personalized here.”

In a very short time, the Luczaks have made quick bonds with others in the neighborhood since they moved in May 2022. When they first purchased their homesite, they met one of their neighbors who kept emailing and sending photos of their home under construction. When they moved in, the neighbor had a get together at his house so they could meet the neighbors. “When you walk outside, everyone is talking to each other. It’s like Mayberry.”

Coming from Chicago, Patti says, “It takes a little bit of getting used to, just slowing down a little bit and enjoying life.” Patti and Greg had been to several Ideal-LIVING Real Estate Shows in the past. She said, “I came home with brochures all the time and read about everything.”

Raleigh is centrally located so they can make small trips to places like Wilmington, Asheville, or Charleston. But there is certainly anything that you could want in the Raleigh area, whether it's sports, theatre, or music.
