ON GIVING YOURSELF A QUARANTINE HAIRCUT

by Aya Aboshady

Staying at home this summer but can’t help thinking that you need a haircut? Are you usually used to getting your hair trimmed and cut at the beauty salon but can’t visit one now due to the pandemic? Well, we too know the struggle. And that’s why we decided to give you tips on how to give yourself a “quarantine” haircut at home; listing down what you should have by your side and the steps you need to follow!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

1. Towel 2. Comb 3. Scissors 4. Blow Dryer 5. Hair Brush 6. Mirror

HOW TO:

Step 1: Wet or Damp Your Hair

In order to cut your hair, having it damp or a little wet is essential. Cutting dry hair is so much harder than you would think. So stay on the safe side and wet your hair before the big action. You got to make sure it’s clean as well with no leave-in hair products, just the shampoo and a little bit of conditioner, then wash well!!

Step 2: Air Dry It

It’s true that cutting your hair while wet is crucial. However, you should wait for a few minutes before digging into it, just so the water is not all over the place after towel-drying!

Step 3: Comb It

Once it’s only damp and not so wet to the point that water is still dripping, thoroughly comb it and make sure not to have any knots so you don’t mess up the length and style while cutting.

Step 4: Part Your Hair and Section It Off

After combing, start sectioning off your hair. It’s better to divide it in parts so you could easily cut it in the same equal length. However, don’t clip any parts while cutting; this might lead you to forget the exact length you desire as end result as well as the length you already cut some parts into!

Step 5: Start With the Front

Take the front of your hair and separate it from the rest, then have it right in front of your eyes and start trimming carefully in a vertical direction with the scissors. It’s so risky to cut the front of your hair in large portions, so make sure you’re only trimming it.

Step 6: Be Very Cautious With The Hair Portion Cut

Moving on to the rest of the hair, you’re not really going to be trimming at this point. Giving yourself a haircut requires actually cutting a good amount. However, still, being careful is crucial and starting small is very important. It’s like you’re tiptoeing around it to test the actual length you want to cut the rest of your hair to. Focusing on the exact length with your eyes and in the mirror is a necessity.

Step 7: Carefully Go On In A Vertical Direction

After starting small, you’ll gain confidence in what you’re doing and the end result you’re aiming for. So take it from here, while still being careful, and continue cutting your hair in a vertical direction. Totally avoid cutting it horizontally. Some hairdressers do it but since it’s very tricky and hard, let’s leave this to the professionals. Vertically cutting your hair is your only option now!

Step 8: Blow Dry and Brush!

After following the steps and ending up with the results you were aiming for and the trim or length needed, brush your hair, lightly blow dry it for a few seconds, then brush it again to see the accurate and final look in the mirror.
