s hot as July…so the song goes…not wrong in the case of Gibraltar, that’s for sure. And with the hot weather come Sun, Sea and Sangria… Chiringuitos, Beach clubs and lots of parties. Here at B Mag this month we have to welcome on board the very well know makeup brand Revlon, who had to decide on one magazine to use for Gibraltar and the chose us. Our Editor and her team will be trying out the Revlon range of products over the course of the year giving you a genuine valued opinion for our readers.

few months ago, as I was walking by a newsstand, the headline of a particular woman’s magazine caught my attention. The big bold headline read “How to Have the Perfect Body.” I immediately picked up the magazine, flipped to the “perfect body” article, and skimmed through it. The secrets behind the so-called “perfect body” were a number of exercises meant to help you obtain the flat tummy, the tight butt, the tone arms, and the shapely legs.

Publishers Letter

We have been busy again this month covering many events for out Gib Social Scene pages, including a fantastic show put on by Urban Dance at the Alameda open air theatre. What a show that was…I really find it hard to believe that Yalta Pons puts in so much work for a one night performance. And on the note of Yalta….Don‘t forget to turn to our centre fold main write up on this amazing woman. Its actually amazing how much I thought I knew about women…and since we started producing the magazine…I’ve come to learn how little I know, especially on the side of beauty, fitness and fashion. Thankfully B Mag has become the sounding board for the women in our community on all those issues and more. The amount of positive feedback we receive is amazing. We are sorry we can’t answer all your emails, thanking us for producing the magazine, and telling us to please continue. What I would like to do is reassure you that B Mag will be here for a long time to come. I want to personally congratulate our Sonia Golt and her team for the excellent work they did on the production of the Bosom Buddies show, even though we have congratulated her in the Gib Social Scene pages. A Little dickey bird told me that THE BOSS…THE GODFATHER of football will be gracing Gibraltar next month. That’s right, the one and only Sir Alex Ferguson will be here to inaugurate the new Manchester United social club. As a staunch Man U supporter all my life...recalling my trips to the stadium sometimes alone and sometimes with my friends, by train from the young age of 13 to 20 and walking up Warrick Rd to what used to be then an all standing Streford End…you can be sure that B Mag will be there to cover the event. Just as Bianca has done, I would also like to show my respects and sincere sympathy on the loss of the great Michael Jackson, love him or not, there has never been since Elvis an artist that has influenced so many people around the world in many different ways, from fashion, to music to creating the start of the mega concerts in football stadiums and the start of the movie style music videos… all thanks to this genius of a man. One thing is sure, as the saying goes…A person has never really gone, until that person has been truly forgotten. In the case of Michael Jackson, I really can’t see that ever happening. On a personal note I want to use this opportunity to congratulate the Chief Minister for banning smoking in all government departments as from the 1st July. I look forward to seeing the CM pass legislation hopefully in the not too distant future. Well done, you have more support than you can ever imagine on this issue, including many smokers.

But let’s face it, nobody’s perfect! However, we all have this picture of exactly how we would like to look. The media pushes the tall, slender size ‘8’ model, which for most women is totally impossible to achieve. Meanwhile, we strive to achieve a more athletic, lean, toned, shaped and trained look.

Editors Letter

For this summer season, whether you’re looking for a great new summer outfit for the “White Party”, experimenting with new makeup or trying to “Create Fabulous Straight Hair”, you will also want to have the “perfect body” to go with it. The “perfect body”...We dream about it, we do crazy things in pursuit of it and, despite all of the hard work, we rarely achieve it. But this month B Mag brings to you “The Body Issue”. Within our exercise and fitness, and diet and nutrition pages you will find helpful articles that really work to achieve that body you always wanted. From getting rid of your flabby arms to getting that perky bikini bum, this is the body issue you have been waiting to read. You can still get the sexy, toned stomach you want. But the key to it all is being happy with yourself. Everyone can improve and continue to improve, but it all takes time and patience. Make the most of what you have got! There is no point saying ‘I want to look just like Gisele Bündchen’, if you’re 5ft 6 inches tall like myself (she is about 5 ft 10). In every magazine you buy it will tell you, how to lose weight, lose body fat and gain that shapely body of your dreams. There are hundreds of fad and new crazy diets, all very commercial and money making, but at the end of the day it’s down to healthy eating over a period of time. Generally, be consistent and patient. I’m sure you will have heard women say ‘I want to lose a stone so I’m going back to the Slimming Club - it always works for me’. If it worked that well, why have they gained a stone! Fact is, diets don’t work but healthy eating together with regular exercise does. On another note I would like to express my deepest sympathy on Michael Jackson’s death. He died on 25th June 2009 at the young age of 50. The King of Pop was a global style icon influencing stylists, fashion editors and designers as well as fans. Next month on “Men We Love” we will be paying tribute to Michael Jackson. He was a musical legend and his music will live on forever. May he rest in peace. Enjoy the issue and enjoy your summer. xBx

Exercise & Fitness

M U B I N I K I B Squats Summer’s here and it’s time to bare your body but gravity, hormones, age and gaining weight are all reasons why our shape changes. This is also why bums start to head south and lose their firmness. If you’d like a firmer bum, and let’s face it, who wouldn’t, then follow our easy workouts to a better bum. There’s one simple, harsh truth about the perfect bum; it’s hard to achieve. If it were easy we’d all be strolling around in hotpants, even in December! Toning your glutes muscles (they’re the ones in your butt) takes some dedication but it’s amazing what a few short moves every night can achieve. Often people will complain they aren’t noticing any difference having followed toning exercises religiously, but this can be because you are still carrying excess fat around the area. If you spend some time on cardio exercise then you’ll be burning fat and all your hard work will show through.

Now on to the ultimate bum workout... 14

If you really and truly want a better bum, then the squat is your best friend. Squats are the best exercise for shaping not only your bum, but also your thighs. The problem with squats is that people tend to find them too hard, or they put too much pressure on their knees causing them pain. (If you have any trouble with your knees it’s best to avoid squats). For a basic squat, it is a good idea to do squats against the wall, with a Swiss ball resting between your back and the wall. You then lean back against the Swiss ball as you squat down, and while you push yourself back up. The Swiss ball modifies the exercise to make it a lot easier on your back and knees, but it will still workout your bum and thighs. Varying the width of your feet will change the emphasis of the exercise. The closer together your feet are, the more you will work your quads (the muscle on the front part of the thighs). As you move your feet further apart, you’ll feel the exercise more in your hips and bottom. While performing the squats it is important to stand up straight, and have your feet shoulder width apart. You should keep this posture during the whole squat. Also you should never let your knees go over your toes, i.e. you should always be able to see your toes. The key to this exercise is to go slowly. The slower you squat down and the slower you stand up again the more your muscles will work. The 3 second pause in the middle is also important. Start by doing 20 of these squats four days a week. Add another set of 20 squats per day over the next four weeks, so that by week four you should be doing 4 sets of 20 repetitions four days a week.

Bikini Bum

Doing as few as 20 squats a day will help give your butt definition and stop you feeling quite to scared about getting naked. You will notice a significant different in your bum after four weeks of these exercises, and best of all they will only take minutes of your time.

For a variation on the squat try the following... Stand with your back against a wall with your feet planted hip width apart, a foot from the wall. Slowly slide your back down the wall until you knees are in line with your ankles and level with your hips (it will be like you’re sitting but without a chair). Hold for 60 seconds or as long as you can manage, before slowly rising back up. Repeat until you can’t take the burn anymore!

Pelvic Lift

This is a great exercise for your bum, lower back and your pelvic muscles (good if you need to tone up your pelvic floor after having a baby). 1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. 2. Keep your arms down by your sides and slowly lift your bum off the ground and push your pelvis toward the ceiling. Make sure you don’t use your shoulders or your back to pull yourself up. 3. Stay in the position for a slow count of 10. You should feel the stretch and burn in your thighs, bum and pelvis. 4. Lower yourself down slowly, using your thigh and bum muscles. Repeat up to 15 times.

Straight Bum Squeeze

If you’re feeling really lazy and tired from the exercises so far you could do this exercise in bed! 1. Lie on your stomach, with your head resting on your arms. 2. Keep your legs together and slowly lift your legs up, pointing your heels towards the ceiling. 3. Hold your legs in this position for three to five seconds, then slowly lower legs back to the starting position. 4. Don’t worry if you can only raise your legs an inch or two off the floor, this is quite a tough exercise. Repeat up to 10 times.

Our fave butt move is the Glute Squeezes on all fours: Lunges

Lunges are another classic bum toning move and whilst all trainers recommend the classic lunge, there are so many versions of lunges you’re certain to find one you can tolerate, if not fall in love with. The lunge exercise is very versatile because you can take it as far as you like, hold the lunge position for increasing amounts of time and really give those legs and buttock muscles a healthy workout. You can do lunges while watching your favourite telly programme or a DVD, so there’s no excuse! This drop-knee version is the most basic lunge...here is how to do it:

1) Step one leg forward by about a foot. 2) Put your hands on your hips, bend your legs and lower yourself until your back knee nearly touches the floor. 3) Tighten your bum muscles throughout the exercise. Repeat 20 times on each leg OR alternatively exercise each leg simultaneously.

If you want to make this exercise tougher hold some hand weights too. Use the back of a chair or a table to help you with your balance with the lunge exercise if you need to. Remember, always stay in your own comfort zone during the exercise and keep good form, move slowly and with smooth movements.

1. Start on all fours, make sure your back is straight, pull in your tummy and keep it firm. 2. Lift one leg up, keeping your knee bent and your foot flat, so that the sole of your foot points towards the ceiling. 3. Bring your leg back down and stay in the position but swap legs. 4. Do the same with your other leg. If it feels too easy, you’re not doing it right, take it slowly and you’ll feel more of a burn. Repeat on each leg 10-12 times.

“If you really want a big difference in your bum and thigh area, it is a good idea to pick an exercise such as swimming, running, walking fast, biking, gym classes etc. If you can do cardio exercises every day for at least 20 minutes, and get your heart moving, this in turn will start the fat burning process.” Cardio also is the best way of getting rid of cellulite. Daily exercise and a good diet will lead to a decreased amount of total fat in the body, and will make cellulite become less noticeable. Cellulite on the bum and thigh area can also be helped by massaging these area’s daily, as cellulite is often a result of a build up of toxins. Body Brushing daily before you shower will not only help tone up flabby areas, but will also help with cellulite. Another easy way to make a difference to your bum is the bum clench. This can be done anywhere...while watching TV, sitting at your desk at work, driving in the car. It is a very easy exercise and can make a difference to your rear, but only if done regularly. To perform the bum clench, you need to stand or sit and then concentrate on squeezing your butt cheeks together and up. It is not a big movement but you should be able to feel it. Hold each bum clench for 5 seconds. Aim to do 20 bum clenches twice a day to see results.

Excercise & Fitness

“ONE SIX PACK TO GO” Wouldn’t it be great to walk into your local gym and say, “I would like to order one six-pack of abs to go, please,” and then receive your order of nice, lean, cut, and defined abs. If only it were that easy to obtain. Very popular by desire but very hard to obtain is the famous “sixpack” of fitness. You’ve seen what I am talking about. It’s the nice, cut, lean, well-defined abdominal muscles that you see on many models and celebrities. Well-defined abdominal muscles are what most people refer to as a six-pack, but the correct name is the rectus abdominal muscles. The six-pack is one of the most sought-after and very elusive goals that many women have tried to obtain throughout the years. What most people do not realize is that they already have a six-pack.

“Everyone, under those layers of fat, has this group of muscles; we just have to work really hard to uncover and define it.” There are several considerations when going through the process of developing your abs to the point of gaining a visible six-pack. One is to remember that women will normally find it harder to lose body fat from around their stomach, because that extra fat helps protect the female organs, and women are designed to carry a little extra for this purpose. This is why you don’t see it leaving your waistline as quickly as you see your body fat leaving other areas of your body. Another factor to consider is genetics. Everyone is designed a little differently, and, therefore, will lose and gain body fat at different amounts and rates of speed in all areas of their body. Increasing your metabolism through some form of vigorous activity will be necessary to burn away body fat. Commitment to an aerobic activity such as speed walking, riding a stationary bike, jogging, or similar exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes a day, six days a week will increase your metabolism and, in turn, burn off unwanted body fat. You must also perform abdominal exercises daily and follow a healthy, low-fat and low-carbohydrate diet. Choosing to follow only one or two of these steps won’t work. A combination of all these steps will be needed in your quest for a six-pack. With dedication and discipline, though, you should be able to achieve noticeable improvements in your midsection. Read on for some helpful tips!

One Six Pack To Go

Curb your cravings

Don’t run over to the cookie jar or candy dish every time your sweet tooth begs for something delightful. Make sweets a special treat and do what you can to avoid eating them all the time.

Avoid eating after 8 o’clock

Set a deadline for all your snacks and stick to it. An occasional miss due to a special event, party or unexpected late dinner is all right, but don’t make a habit of it.

Get your heart rate up

Aerobic exercise contributes greatly to toning muscles and improving body appearance and functioning. Jog, power walk, run, swim, jump rope, do sets of jumping jacks, bike, roller-blade - do something active!

Oblique Crunches

Lie on your back with knees bent, hands behind your head. Keeping lower back pressed into the floor, lift your shoulder blades off the floor and then curl your upper body diagonally across your body towards your right knee. Contract your abs and obliques as hard as you can at the top of the movement. Lower back down and repeat on the same side before switching sides. Repeat 20 times.

Plank

Begin by placing elbows on the floor and resting body on the knees. Pull the abs tight to hold your body in a straight line from head to knees without sagging in the middle, eyes looking naturally forward. Hold this position for as long as you can, relax and repeat 3 or more times.

Drink lots of water

Sometimes your stomach feels a pang and immediately you decide you want food. Instead, try pouring yourself a glass of ice water and see if you’re still hungry after drinking that. To stay healthy and replenish all the fluids your body uses, you should be drinking a good amount of water each day.

Work out

Odds are that your abs won’t surprise you on their own. You’ve got to put a little muscle into it, whether that means engaging in a routine of crunches or trying yoga on for size. Experiment with different methods and discover what works for you. Here are some examples: The following exercises are basic moves targeting the abs and back. Always avoid any exercises that cause pain and, if you feel lower back strain, modify the move to a comfortable range of motion or place a rolled up towel under your hips to support your lower back. • Check with your doctor if you have any injuries or medical conditions • Warm up with some light cardio before this workout • Do each exercise slowly and relax for a moment between the exercises • Make sure the lower back stays well supported • Allow enough time for a good stretch/cool-down period when you are done

Back Extensions

Lie face down with hands either behind the back or lightly cradling the head. Lift upper body off the ground a few inches, keeping head and neck in alignment. For a challenge, then lift feet off the ground keeping legs straight (knees don’t have to be together), hold for 2-4 counts and lower. Repeat 10 times.

Basic Crunches

Lie on your back with your hands crossed across your chest or with your fingers on the sides of your head. Place your feet on the floor with legs bent. To begin the exercise, lift your torso, lifting shoulder blades off the floor and crunching your rib cage towards your lower belly. Hold for two counts, then lower slowly to the starting position. Repeat 20 times.

Reverse Crunches

Lie on your back with knees bent, feet a few inches off the floor. Slowly contract the abdominals, focusing on rotating the pelvis up and bringing your knees towards your rib cage. Concentrate on letting your abs do the work. Hold at the top then slowly lower your knees to the starting position. Repeat 15 times.

Now that you know how to jumpstart a campaign to a trimmer, tighter stomach, what are you waiting for? There’s no time like the present to start working your abs into swimsuit shape. Follow the steps as outlined and add your own special touches. Try healthier snacks like raw veggies and fresh fruit. Find an exercise buddy and challenge each other to work out to the best of your ability. Stay positive, stay motivated and you’ll notice great changes in no time! 17

Diet & Nutrition

You hate them!!! You know the type... the ones who never flutter an eyelash when it comes time to order lunch or dinner. Ask them their weight and they probably can’t even tell you - they don’t know it. THEY are the women who don’t give weight watching a second thought. And that’s the very reason they’re at a happy, healthy weight. They are naturally thin people - the enemy to anyone who’s ever battled extra pounds. But please don’t hate them... You too can be one of them. Sometimes we think, ‘when I’m thin enough, I’ll be happy’. A naturally thin person knows how to be happy first, beyond weight success. It’s freedom to enjoy your life. It’s about healthier relationships and being able to achieve the goals you want for yourself professionally. It’s finding the time to enjoy some pleasures in life, like the holidays you always wanted to take or the personal goals you always wanted to achieve. It’s having the energy and desire and ability to follow through on these things. It’s a fuller, richer life. What it isn’t, is obsessing over every pound shed, minute spent exercising, calorie eaten, etc. Somewhere there has to be a happy medium between the apathy and the obsession. That’s where the seven secrets of naturally thin people come in. We’re all born naturally thin; however, it’s the way we think that takes away this mentality. There’s a big difference between being thin and being a naturally thin person. There are those who struggle with anorexia or rely on starvation to avoid weight gain. These people are engaging in unhealthy physical and mental behaviours. When it comes to weight loss, one size does not fit all.

7 SECRETS OF NATURALLY THIN PEOPLE

42

Before you can even get started on a healthy approach to dealing with your weight, it’s important to get in the right state of mind. This month in B Mag we share with you the 7 healthy secrets of naturally thin people that can help you get one step closer.

Secret 1: Weight Maintenance

Naturally thin people have a stable weight and don’t worry what it is. Naturally thin people don’t weigh measure or otherwise keep track of their bodies’ dimensions. You won’t even find a bathroom scale at the naturally thin person’s house. They don’t need to weigh themselves, because they trust their bodies to regulate their own weight. Sure, it is easy for people not to worry about their weight when it never changes.

7 Secrets of Naturally Thin People

Secret 2: Attitude

Naturally thin people have a positive view of themselves and their lives. People who have never had a weight problem know that the key to happiness is in how they perceive themselves and their lives. They have a wonderful self-image because they have not allowed society’s pressure to influence them. Besides appearance, some people criticise themselves for their thoughts, feelings, behaviours everything. How they see their bodies is a reflection of how they tend to see their entire lives.

Secret 6: Exercise

Naturally thin people enjoy a variety of fitness activities in reasonable amounts. They exercise on a regular basis without going overboard. There is consistency without compulsivity. They use exercise guidelines, but in a way that honours their bodies’ needs. Some exercise for longer durations than others, and some work out at more advanced levels than others. Their bodies just seem to know how much exercise is right for them. Regardless of their level of conditioning, they all have some level of commitment to making fitness a part of their lives. They focus on what they really enjoy: running, cycling, swimming, aerobics or whatever.

Secret 3: Know Why To Eat

Naturally thin people eat when they are hungry, but for other reasons as well. They eat because their bodies need fuel, but they also eat sometimes even if they are not hungry. People eat to fulfil physical need, physical desire and emotional desire. The key is proportion: to be attuned to the body’s signals of what it needs, but also to eat once in a while out of desire. This involves using the body’s inner wisdom. It’s fine to eat something because you want to, or occasionally because you’re having a bad day. Enjoy that piece of cheesecake from the dessert tray, simply because it looks so good and you want to taste it. Have a custard-doughnut, because it’s your favourite comfort food and you’re feeling really stressed. Just be aware of what you are doing. Pay attention to why you are eating and make your choices in a conscious, proportioned way.

Secret 4: Know What to Eat

Naturally thin people eat exactly what they are hungry for. They seem to have an inherent sense of what they really need. They’ll go out of their way to get what they are hungry for, even if it means making a shopping trip. If that’s not feasible, then they substitute another similar food. While eating, they are in tune with whether or not the food is satisfying their need, and they make adjustments in their intake accordingly.

Secret 7: Live Life

Naturally thin people have truly fulfilling lives (and it’s not because they are thin). Thinness is part of their experience, but it is not the source of their fulfilment. They have meaningful relationships with others. They enjoy significant experiences in both their professional and personal lives. They focus far beyond the number on the scale. Their focus is on enjoying life, exactly as it is, and making the best of things, exactly as they are. With this attitude of gratitude, they seem to attract more good into their lives automatically, without having to chase after it.

Secret 5: Know How Much to Eat

Naturally thin people stop eating before they get too full. They often leave food on their plates when dining out, because the typical restaurant portion is more than a body needs. When dining at home, they often finished what is on their plates if they served themselves, because they are in tune with how much food their bodies will need and only put that much on their plates. A naturally thin person can even take a spoon and eat right from the container - then put the container away when they’ve had enough. Eat slowly, pay attention to how you feel as you get full and learn how to recognise fullness cues. 19

8 Minutes to Get Rid of Your Chicken Wings The Workout

Exercise 1 - Chest and Shoulders Lie on your back and grasp your weights with the palms of your hands facing up, and your arms outstretched to the sides. With your elbows slightly bent, lift your arms above your chest until your hands are almost touching. Return to starting position and repeat. Exercise 2 - Chest and Shoulders Lie on your back and grasp your weights with the palms of your hands facing up, and your arms outstretched above your head. Grip your weights and bring them over your head and down to your hips, by your sides - a semi-circular motion. Lift back to starting position and repeat. Exercise 3 - Chest and Back Sitting with your back straight and legs straight out in front of you, hold your weights in at your chest with your elbows out to the side (parallel to the floor). Push your arms out straight in front of you then pull them back in. Repeat. Exercise 4 - Back and Shoulders Stand with feet shoulder width apart and arms by your sides, gripping the weights with palms facing outwards. Making sure your movements are slow and concentrated, tense your shoulder and upper back muscles, then slowly move them up and down.

8 MINUTES TO GET RID OF YOUR CHICKEN WINGS

F

labby arms are embarrassing especially if you like wearing strappy dresses or sleeveless tops. Tone up flabby arms for good and feel sexy again.

Whether it’s the little black dress in winter or, for men, stripping down to your shorts in summer, those wobbly bits around the upper arms, chest and back can easily spoil the look. Here’s our 8 minute body toning workout to banish your chicken wings. Equipment Needed Any exercise aimed at toning your body needs something to provide resistance for your muscles to work against. Most of the exercises below use hand-held weights to provide resistance: these can be as simple as water bottles (or even tins of food) you can grip comfortably, or dumbbells in the range of 1lb-5lb/0.5-2kg. Timing and Repetitions 10 reps of each exercise should take about 8 minutes. As with all exercise you should warm-up first. Marching or jogging on the spot for a few minutes interspersed with some gentle stretches will do the trick. Caution Body toning exercise can be a pretty painful experience if muscles have lain dormant for a while. The problem is, it’s not until 24-48hrs after your workout that you’ll realise you’ve overdone it! Body toning exercise should not be painful while you are doing it - if it is you’re using too much weight. If you’ve not been exercising your muscles recently it’s best to start with a weight that feels “very easy” and build up gradually from there.

Exercise 5 - Shoulders and Upper Arms Stand with feet shoulder width apart and arms raised straight up above your head, grip your weights with your palms facing behind you. Slowly bring your arms forward and down, without bending at the elbow, until level with your shoulders. Lift back to starting position and repeat. Exercise 6 - Upper Arms, Shoulders and Back Standing with feet slightly apart, grasp your weights and bend at the waist until your torso is parallel to the floor. Extend your arms towards the floor with palms facing outwards. Lift your arms out to the side, keeping them straight, until parallel to the floor. Return to the starting position and repeat. Exercise 7 - Upper Arms, Shoulders and Back Standing with feet slightly apart, position your arms straight down in front of you almost against your body - with your weights almost touching. Bend your elbows and lift your weights towards your chin, bringing your elbows out to the side, in line with your shoulders. Return to the starting position and repeat. Exercise 8 - Arms and Chest The classic push up. With your hands shoulder width apart, place your palms on the floor. Stretch out your body with either your knees on the floor, or if you’re feeling ambitious, your toes - so you are supporting your body weight. Keeping your back straight and using your arms lower yourself gently toward the floor until you are hovering just over it. Push yourself slowly back to your starting position and repeat. Remember - don’t lower yourself to the point where you come into contact with the floor, it’ll be much harder to push back up. Exercise 9 - Arms In a sitting position with your back straight, relax your arms in line with your body. Grip your weights with your palms facing upwards and curl them up towards your shoulders, then back down again. Repeat. Keep your torso still and back straight, let your arms do the work. Exercise 10 - Forearms Holding your weight with your arm outstretched in front of you, tilt your wrist up and down repeatedly. Try doing this with both an overhand and underhand grip on your weight. Do one arm at a time. Results The secret of successful body toning is regularity. If you do this exercise sequence every other day you’ll start to see results in a few weeks.

Catwalk Report

CATWALK REPORT Born on May 11, 1932, in the town of Voghera, to the south of Milan, Valentino Garavani studied at the prestigious Accademia dell’Arte in Milan followed by the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, as well as the French capital’s Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture.

While in Paris, Valentino studied under some of the world’s best in fashion. Taking his first job with couturier Jean Dessès in 1950 as an apprentice and continuing on under Guy Laroche, Valentino quickly learned what it takes to be one of the best. It wasn’t long before Valentino decided to try and build his own fashion house.

Valentino is synonymous with magnificence, extravagance, and drama. In business since 1960, Valentino Garavani made his mark early with intricately detailed, luxurious gowns and tastefully bodyconscious silhouettes - even perfecting his own shade of Valentino Red – a particularly distinct shade of red, that he customised himself.

Valentino left Paris and opened his own fashion studio in Rome in the late 1950’s. Naming the fashion house Valentino, after himself, he began to design for his first fashion show. In 1962, Valentino completed his first runway fashion show. It was with the tremendous success of this show that the fashion world first began to take notice of Valentino and his designs. His house was on its way to becoming an empire. His black and white gowns became ultra-fashionable, and remain so to this day.

Valentino Garavani’s life began in Italy in 1932 in a small town north of Milan. Even as a child, Valentino had an eye for fashion and often dressed in only the finest of clothing. Valentino also had a desire to become a fashion designer, an extraordinary designer, a dream that he took with him to Paris to study fashion design. He was barely seventeen years old.

The year 1968 introduced the groundbreaking White collection as well as the now-iconic V label. Thanks in part to the entrepreneurial skill of Giancarlo Giammetti, Valentino’s long-time business partner and ex-boyfriend; the brand is still among European royalty, American socialites, and celebrities craving a touch of class. Though his new creations get a great deal of attention - and requests, especially

VALENTINO around red-carpet time - his vintage dresses continue commanding attention. With his trademark “V”, Valentino has designed haute couture fashion, and made it the passion of beautiful people all over the world. He has dressed such stars as Sophia Loren, Greta Garbo, Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, J.Lo and Halle Berry. One of his most famous clients, Jacqueline Kennedy, requested that the Italian maestro design the dress for her wedding to Aristotle Onassis. The year was 1968, the dress a white lace mini. Valentino’s design was seen all over the world, on magazine covers everywhere. His house had now reached iconic status.

It was in 1989 that Valentino expanded his empire with boutique chain openings in the United States and Japan. Since then, dressing the bold, the beautiful, and the uber-rich in luxurious clothing all over the world has become the brand’s main preoccupation. In 1990 Valentino and Giancarlo, created the organization called L.I.F.E., which supports AIDS related patients. It was with the support and help from another famous friend, Elizabeth Taylor that this organization was created.

In the 1970’s Valentino began designing his ready-to-wear collection for both men and women. He opened boutiques with his readyto-wear collection in both Milan and Rome. Valentino continued to design, not just dresses, but also ties, accessories, shirts and jeans. The success story grew in strength with a perfume and interior de’cor line. Valentino had truly become fashion’s “It” man.

Gisele BüUndchen owards the end of the 90’s the supermodel concept had largely been declared dead. That was until Gisele appeared on the catwalk. The stunning Brazilian brunette, with her tanned limbs, perfect curves and piercing oceanblue eyes, has brought glamour and sex appeal back to the fashion industry.

Claiming not to be bothered by her celebrity, she nevertheless has a hard time when she returns to her native Brazil where she is a national hero. “The last time I went home I had to take five bodyguards when I went dancing,” she said. “Even then, guys were jumping over them to grab my butt and screaming: ‘Gisele, marry me!’ I had to leave.”

Gisele Caroline Bündchen was born on July 20, 1980 in the Brazilian town of Três de Maio and grew up in Horizontia, Rio Grande do Sul, a region whose population is largely composed of Brazilians of German descent. Gisele is of German ancestry from both sides of her family, which is integrated in Brazilian society for many generations.

She was married to American football star Tom Brady on 26th February 2009 in a small Catholic ceremony in Los Angeles. For the ceremony, Gisele wore a dress and veil designed by no other famed fashion designer John Galliano. Gisele and Tom had been dating since late 2006.

Parents Vânia Nonnenmacher, a bank clerk pensioner, and Valdir Bündchen, a university teacher and writer raised 6 girls: Raquel, Graziela, Gabriela, Rafaela, Gisele and her fraternal twin Patrícia, Gisele’s junior by five minutes and, Gisele as a schoolgirl, never turned heads. “I was taller and skinnier than everyone else and they called me Oli, short for Olive Oyl,” she recalls. But a trip to São Paolo as a 14-year-old changed her life. A model scout spotted the leggy teenager in a shopping centre eating at McDonald’s with her friends and suggested Gisele go for a career in fashion. At first she refused, having set her sights on being a volleyball player, but then, thinking that a bit of extra money might not be such a bad idea, she reconsidered and in 1996 Gisele moved to New York City to begin her modeling career, debuting at NY Fashion Week. A bit of money? According to Forbes Magazine, she is the most successful model of all time. Gisele is the highest-paid model in the world and also the sixteenth richest woman in the entertainment world, having earned $33 million in 2006, $35 million in 2007, $35 million in 2008 and $25 million from June 2008 to June 2009, adding to her estimated $150 million fortune. She is also listed on the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s richest supermodel and has appeared on more magazine covers than any other model. The catwalk queen’s Victoria’s Secret deal is the biggest in the industry (even though she ended her contract with VS on May 1, 2007) while her other lucrative advertising campaigns include Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren, Valentino, Balenciaga, Versace, Givenchy, Bvlgari, Zara, Michael Kors and Ebel watches. Sales of the model’s own ‘Ipanema’ footwear range have also boosted her earnings with sales topping 100 million since 2001. The cover girl of choice for countless magazines including Vogue and Elle, it wasn’t long before Gisele caught the eye of pin-up actor Leonardo DiCaprio. He bombarded her with a charm offensive, and the two became showbiz’s hottest item. They split briefly in 2001 after a series of arguments about Leo’s partying ways but he wooed her back. However, their on-off relationship finally came to an end early in 2006 with speculation that a third party was involved. Gisele has juggled her modelling commitments with exciting new acting projects. Although she once turned down a role in Charlie’s Angels because of her busy agenda, she is keen to develop a film career. She made a venture into the film industry, starring as the leader of the bank robbers, Vanessa, in the 2004 remake of Taxi. In 2006 she started opposite Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada and also Asterix at the Olympic Games alongside Gerard Depardieu and David Beckham. When she finds time to relax, the horse-mad star loves to escape to her country retreat in upstate New York where she goes riding. Her burgeoning property portfolio includes a penthouse apartment in Manhattan, a mansion in Los Angeles and a hotel in the south of Brazil, The Palladium Executive. 28

men we love...

SIMON cowell H

e can’t sing or play an instrument, doesn’t know how to use an iPod and prefers watching TV to listening to CDs - yet it’s the music industry for the past 28 years that has made Simon Cowell his fortune. Even though with a few bumps along the way...

Born in Brighton, East Sussex on 7th October 1959 and brought up in Hertfordshire, Simon Philip Cowell had what he describes as a comfortably well-off childhood with parents Eric and Julie. His dad was on the board of directors for record label EMI, running the company’s property division. The family also included his three halfbrothers, Michael, John and Tony, a half-sister June and younger brother Nicholas. Early signs of Simon’s famously critical eye came, he remembers, at the tender age of four when he looked at his mother’s white fuzzy pillbox hat and remarked, “Mum, you look like a poodle”. After he dropped out of school at 16, Julie - whom he says he takes after and is famously close to - got him his first step on the ladder in the music business. He had been working as a film runner when she saw an ad for a job in EMI’s mail room and filled in an application for him. He got the job and worked as a post boy until his father’s connections got him re-hired as an assistant in the artist and repertoire division - responsible for scouting new talent and artist development.

Parlaying this into a career as a record producer, he left EMI during the early Eighties to form independent label E&S Music. This folded within a year, however, forcing him to return temporarily to his former employer. But in 1985 he was off again, to form Fanfare Records with business partner Iain Burton. The company enjoyed a string of successes with artists like Sinitta Malone, who was Simon’s girlfriend at the time, but in 1989 Fanfare, too, folded, leaving Simon bankrupt, deeply in debt and back home living with his parents. Rather than feeling embarrassed at his misfortune, however, Simon said it was in fact “a relief”: “Everything went - my house, my Porsche, all the things I thought were important. I had nice food every night at home. I was quite happy, really.”

Later that year he became a consultant for BMG, going on to sign a number of hit acts through his S Records label including Curiosity Killed the Cat, Sonia Evans, 5ive, Westlife and Robson and Jerome - whose version of the Righteous Brothers hit Unchained Melody became the top-selling single of 1995. Simon also managed to corner the market for novelty records, signing the music rights to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Teletubbies and the World Wrestling Federation. While some in the industry may have looked down their noses at his choices Simon says he’s not snobbish about music, insisting he has mass-market tastes. “My talent is for creating things the public will like,” he says. “I’m interested only in making money, for myself, and the people I work for. I mean, that’s absolutely the only criterion I attach.” In 2002, he set up another label, Syco Records, which would later become part of Columbia Records and Sony BMG Music Entertainment. But while he’s had success since with artists like Will Young, Gareth Gates, Leona Lewis, Carrie Underwood, Grammy Award winner Kelly Clarkson and the classical group Il Divo, it is with talent TV shows that he has made his mark - and the majority of his fortune. Together with Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller, he created Pop Idol, serving as a judge for the first season in 2001. The show was a huge success, largely thanks to Simon’s acerbic contribution. With his derogatory comments and insincere catchphrase “I don’t mean to be rude, but…” not to mention his penchant for tight t-shirts and high-waisted trousers, he became a national celebrity overnight. Simon’s attempts to sell the show in America were initially less successful, although Fox eventually picked it up in June 2002. US audiences loved it and Simon was instantly propelled to A-list status across the pond. Over 26 million viewers were tuning in at the end of the first season when Kelly Clarkson was announced the winner. A canny businessman, Simon also released Idol related records, while Simon Fuller owned part of the show and managed winners’ careers. The two fell out in 2004, though, and were locked in a legal battle after Simon launched new UK talent competition The X Factor which Fuller claimed was based on the Pop Idol concept. The lawsuit was settled with Simon Cowell agreeing to return to Idol for five more seasons. The X Factor has won a BAFTA award for two years running and has also won Entertainment Show of the Year at the National Television Awards. The talent shows have swelled his bank balance considerably. In 2006 Simon agreed to remain as a judge on American Idol for the princely sum of £20 million per series for another five years, while in the UK he signed a three-year “golden handcuffs” deal with ITV worth £20 million. He’d first become a multi-millionaire back in June 2003 when he sold his half-share in S Records to BMG for $42 million. He went on to augment his stable of hit reality shows with American Inventor, America’s Got Talent and Celebrity Duets. And in 2007 his production company launched a UK show to find stars for a new stage version of the musical Grease. His indulgences are houses and cars, of which he owns several, and the hard-working vegetarian takes just one holiday a year usually to Barbados. Simon has always declared himself unwilling to settle down and have children. “I don’t think I would be great marriage material. I don’t think I’m that reliable,” he told one US publication. 29

lean career wise but banking had always appealed to me so when an opportunity arose at a local bank I took it and quickly rose to Assistant Manager in the Administrative Department. Office politics reared its nasty head and it became very uncomfortable and difficult a place to work in. I had never known staff morale could go so low due to miss-management at the highest level and it was a frustrating period for me but I learned a lot about human nature and ambition.” “I returned to the insurance industry which was not a particular industry that I enjoyed but thought that my stress levels could tolerate it better.”

Louise Roberts was born in Gibraltar during the Spanish frontier blockade. She remembers her childhood as one of freedom and safety although she was always curious about what lay beyond in the outside world. “When my eldest sister moved to live in Marbella, at the age of 13, I started to travel by boat or in yachts to visit my sister and spend enjoyable summers meeting new people. This opened my eyes to the world outside Gibraltar.” Louise says that she was not a keen student and actually wanted to leave school and work but her mother encouraged her to do one year of Commercial Studies to get the basics to work in an office. “This was probably the best advice I ever received. I met my mentor Mrs. McGillivray who was Head of Commercial Department and became a big influence. She was ahead of the times in her thinking – practiced Yoga, originally from Jamaica and therefore “different”– and I listened to her views on many matters in relation to the future of Gibraltar and the outside world.” Louise left school at 19 with the objective of working and living in London. “There I got my first insight into office politics and the importance of work colleagues and of course Insurance. I left for London in April 1986, a month short of my 21st Birthday. I found myself in Chiswick, West London. I had a wonderful job where I met new people many of them still friends to this day. I worked in the Personnel Dept so was involved in the provision of Pension, Medical Insurance and Payroll for the 500+ employees of the firm. The head office was based in London and the company built Airships, which were kept at the Cardington Hangers in Bedford. I quickly offered to distribute pay slips once a month personally in Bedford where I would drive up by myself and spend the day meeting all the staff in the Hangers. It was a fascinating job. I was also lucky enough to fly, on a number of occasions, in the Airship over London which again was an experience in itself.” She had always wanted to explore the possibility of working in the City as it had its obvious appeal but on attending an early morning interview and travelling in the tube, she decided to discard the idea, as this was not what she envisaged doing every day. “The horror of travelling every day in a tube across London and being forced to walk at the same fast pace of my fellow travellers, made me realise that the fast life irrespective of the benefits was not for me. I found a job in my surrounding area and worked for the French Company Grosfillex, which distributes Garden Furniture in the UK. Being a French company with offices all over Europe and beyond I was given the opportunity to travel to Head Office in Oyonnax France and other offices in Switzerland and Holland as part of both my IT and Accounts training.” Love appeared in the horizon and a relationship flourished with the man who is now her husband. Due to personal circumstances, they decided to move to Gibraltar. “It felt very difficult to re-adjust but bought my apartment –got married and eventually had my two children. I did not know which way to

9 months later a colleague made a personal decision to start up his own small Insurance Intermediary firm and as he needed help on the Administration side Louise offered to work on a part time basis for him as this suited her family commitments at the time. “After 12 years with this firm and on reaching 40 I decided I could do it for myself. I had over the years explored several other businesses’ but raising finance was difficult and finding the right place in Gibraltar is very costly but it was obvious that the previous 14 years in the Life Insurance Business meant I knew exactly what was required. As my experience lay mainly in Life Insurance Plans I thought it appropriate to name the firm Lifetime (Life and time being the now and the future, which is what one, needs to protect by way of insurance.). However initially I was going to set up the firm by myself but had known Elizabeth for a number of years and although we had never worked together directly – indirectly I knew her to be hardworking and responsible and very experienced in General Insurance and some Life Insurance. She jumped at the chance, we started the project on a joint basis, and that is how Lifetime Insurance Consultants Ltd started trading. Being our business we have no sales target as such no pressure sales, so our relaxed manner when we sell any type of insurance becomes apparent to the clients to whom we dedicate time to explain particular clauses to, whether this relates to Travel Insurance or Contents Insurance or Boat Insurance. I am proud that our business concept has developed to reflect our honesty, integrity and quality service that defines our personal and business objectives.” “I have received the support of my husband during the first two years of my business setup but we now have different objectives in life and have recently moved apart. I have two wonderful and loving children and because of their ages, it is now much easier to combine both work and home. During their early years I was always there for them and working from home to be near them which I believe is important to create a secure and loving environment.” Do you believe women are SUPERWOMEN still in today’s society? “I would say that indeed a woman who works and has a family has to have an element of superwoman label – multitasking seems to be a more appropriate word. My business partner Elizabeth is one such Superwoman! I have been very fortunate in that my husband has always helped with both the housework and the children so life has been easier for me in that respect than most women I know.” What is your typical working day? “It starts by ensuring my children are ready to leave home on time for school – I am not an early starter and hate stress so once they have left I tend to get myself ready whilst listening to the news to ensure I am up to date on worldwide events especially Financial news. By 9.30, I get to my office and combine meeting clients with administration and management of the office. Lunchtimes I tend to spend in the office. My son tends to come round to see me at lunchtimes. We spend ½ an hour together, which is nice, and this is exactly what I like about Gibraltar. The fact that I am able to combine both work and my family duties, unlike the outside world where it is all about work from the moment you leave the home until the evening when you get back leaving very little time for family life. By 6pm I try to leave the office and depending on the children’s activities that day I take time for myself playing squash meeting friends or spend it with my children ensuring homework’s are completed. I wish I had free time – time is what I can never find nowadays. I still have ambitions to work and travel outside Gibraltar, although I love Gibraltar and the safety and family life it offers but there is a big world out there that I still wish to explore!” 33

In Gibraltar there are not many women called Yalta, this already shows how unique she is, her immense personality, great gregarious character and her versatility in both business and creative artistic things are part and parcel of this attractive lady known to many as Yalta Pons. “When I was a young girl I was brought up within a closed frontier, we didn’t have the freedom or perks that we have nowadays, we had to get creative and improvise to have fun. I lived in the best neighbourhood ever “La Laguna” where I would get plenty of exercise playing in our patios. Even at a very early age, I was challenging the opposite sex by playing football with them and giving them a good run for their money! I loved the freedom that we had when we played, it was more sociable, and the youth seemed to move together as we had limited places to go to so we were all seen at the same spots, e.g. cinema, El Med, La Caleta and others and we expressed ourselves through games, FA Cup tournaments, rescata etc.” Yalta’s father was a Union Activist who took home with him many of the Union’s rights and passed them on to his family.

“We were brought up with the ethos of standing up for your rights and fighting for what you believe in, on a daily basis.” Even at a very young age I immensely disliked how sexist everything was, it was expected for young woman to get married, have children be a housewife and at most have parttime jobs, you couldn’t be a jury member (until a few years ago), women weren’t allowed in the army, there was so much political incorrectness. Happy to see that we have come a long way, but there are still some dinosaurs around, and believe- you- me, I have come across some amazing specimens.” I tend to agree with Yalta and her way of thinking because even today we still live in a male dominated society although it is less obvious than it was year’s back. I always feel we do not have enough women in politics and this cannot possibly be because of the brainpower, as I know many women out there who would do a better job than some political figures we have around… “Talking about women, I admire my mum enormously, she had to provide for 3 daughters with a peanut budget, this is were I get all my creativity, I grew up seeing my mother make amazing outfits, knit school uniforms and feed us, she really got creative to survive. We have been brought up to be grateful for what we have; my parents are the most un- materialistic people I have ever known.”

What do you recall of the 70’s and 80’s? “Oh yes, the 80’s hair! frizzzzzzzy! Thankfully, Serum came along in the 90’s to rescue us from the entire frizz, but we can blame our lovely levanter for that. I spent most of my free time (or all of it) dancing, I danced with the late Alfred Ramirez at the old Adventure playground hut, and with Lionel Perez at the Bayside drama studio, this was how I started in my dance career. Where did you study dancing? “I obtained a 2:1 Bachelor of Arts degree in dance and the creative arts at the Manchester Metropolitan University. The course covered contemporary, ballet (yes! I did ballet), choreography, dance production in the community and others. I have always been very creative and dance isn’t my only passion, I love the arts, this degree was very integrated, it covered so much stuff related to the arts, that I believe that my versatility in my work comes across because the vast genres that I covered including photography, cinematography, creative writing, music, modern art.” Why out of so many creative things did you choose DANCE? “Dance, is what I know and what I live for, I was born to do this. I enjoy every aspect of my work, the classes at the studio, the other team members Jolene Gomez and Darion Figueredo, the dancers, organising the shows, the stress, the tears, the laughs, aching muscles. At the time when I decided to study dance, I was young, I did not seek advice it was clear to me that this is what I wanted to do with my life. Friends of mine chose what they were going to study through peer pressure or what they thought would bring them financial security and not what they felt passionate about. I am a true bohemian, and an extremely happy and content one. Parents, who have to give advice to their children on what they would like to study at University should make sure that it has to be what makes their sons or daughters be happy later in their life and this is only possible by thinking of what their hearts will hold and not their pockets.” I said before many things about Yalta but I forgot to mention too that she says what she feels and does it in a way that shows empathy for those less fortunate; she is a just woman and one to be admired for her outspokenness within such a small community. Tell me about your work? “If you had asked me the same question a few years ago my answer would be totally different. The last few years I have seen the positive results that my work can achieve and it has nothing to do with dance. I may be a highly experienced & qualified dance teacher, but I see myself more like a leader than a teacher. I have seen the group developing as a team; so much that we are more like a family, we have seen many of our dancers grow up into special people, with open minds, very tolerant and achieving great things that no one else would have imagined. Darion, Jolene, and myself are always there for our dancers, when they’ve had personal problems, exam stresses, we have given them informed choices on employment, what they could study and where. They come to Urban Dance studio’s for various classes, they might learn different dance techniques like commercial, Hip Hop, contemporary, lyrical, MTV styles, funky etc, but, what they learn mainly, is how to work in a team, feel part of a team, always respecting each other with no discrimination whatsoever. The group makes newcomers feel welcomed in seconds, if you are in Urban Dance then; you are open confident and an approachable person. I make sure our members understand what hard work entails. They see the good side to dance but also the bad.”

Totally Exposed “We take it all very seriously and professionally and expect the dancers to do so too. I tell them if they want to achieve something in life, they have to be tough. We have our own code of conduct and child protection policies and try to keep up to date with youth work and child development courses. When I am giving them the “Boot camp” treatment (this is the sort of training that got us to the World dance championships), they should not feel down or give up, but, stick it out and wait for the result to see what they can achieve. I keep on reminding them that they cannot go through life expecting everyone to treat you like a “princesita” and have everything laid out for them.” Urban Dance has performed, on a variety of occasions locally also at Bahia Park & Tivoli World in Spain and they work closely with the ‘Academia de Baile Eva’ from La Linea. They do a lot of charity work and workshops to empower the dancers to learn to do things by themselves, it is all part of a young persons development and character building and a great thing to have locally for the younger generation to benefit from. Tell me about URBAN DANCE? “We’re very busy. We where very fortunate to represent Gibraltar in Riesa Germany last November at the World dance Championship, an amazing experience that even brought our group closer together. I was so proud of my dancers, they’re an amazing bunch, I worked them to the ground all year, and they made me so proud, when we found out that we made the next round, it was a moment that none of us will ever forget, we just didn’t expect to get that far so it was total exhilaration. We partied like crazy, we did not win but for us it was as if we had won the main title, for me, my dancers are the best in the world and that is what really counts. Soon we will be leaving for Italy to take part in the world Dance Convention in Bari. Summer is our busiest time of the year and when all the shows are happening.” Where do your ideas come from? “My ideas can come from anywhere, choreographies are basically the result of listening to a particular song or music that motivates

36

me, or I have an idea for a theme, we do mainly commercial and modern stuff so we do what’s really happening at the moment, but I do love some old school too. So many things inspire me but I generally tend to choreograph the piece on the spot, I go with the energy the dancers are generating and the piece moves according to the vibes that the dancers are giving me back, most cases they motivate me to do wicked choreographies. When Darion and I produce together we have brainstorming sessions that work.” Can dancing be a form of protest? “Absolutely, dance is an art form that helps you express yourself to put a message across. I have done things like that, 1999 I did a piece about the slaughtering of the whales and now I have choreographed a song which speaks about freeing your mind so as not to discriminate or judge people before you know them well! My aim is to put my work out there and express how modern commercial pieces should be done - boldly, energetically and with lots of attitude. My motto is expression!” What would totally expose YALTA? “Every show that I do exposes a little bit more of who I am.”

The White Way Sporting white can make a big statement. Wearing white is no longer seen as boring. Rather, it is sexy, demure, or sophisticated depending on the where and how. You can personalize an outfit of white to give it a personality that will stick out in anyone’s memory. If you decide to wear something with volume, try to pair it with a slimmer item to avoid the totally sloppy look. After all, once you get the attention that you are craving, you want to be able to maintain it. A slightly oversized bag makes more sense than a large satchel that’s big enough to hold half a dinner set of dishes. White accessories, while blending in, can add a sparkle and shimmer that can liven up an outfit. Embellishments from beads and tassels to ribbons and lace can add an exciting dimension to the already perfect outfit. Instead of worrying about white becoming dirty quickly, purchase something that’s easy to clean such as cotton or stretch cotton. Or simply be bold and wear your whites with zest and the confidence that at the moment, the outfit looks fabulous. After all, we love to add to our wardrobe constantly, and chances are, you will only have to replace part of an ensemble if the worst does happen.

Wearing white promotes a look that captivates the sightseer of fashion. It almost mesmerizes to the point of distraction. The fact, that many celebrities now choose to wear white all year long, adds to the glamour of the colour. Steer away from the typical “hot” colours of red and black for your lingerie. The colour white can inspire your mate and give you an almost untouchable look that will send him burning with desire straight into your arms. The crisp and clean look of white can give an appearance of newness, of innocence, of simplicity. Soft, sheer, and frilly can add a touch of romance. Puffy sleeves, bits of ribbon, and trimmings of lace can lend themselves to the feminine side of your nature. Fitted jackets and blouses add a sense of professionalism.

Whatever you wear, make it white, and make it yours! 3939

Whether it is summer or not, you should always keep a pair of sunglasses with you and wear them whenever you are out under the sun. Beyond making you look trendy and stylish, sunglasses have another, more important function - and that is to protect your eyes from ultraviolet rays.

Sunglasses can be used as finishing touch to woman’s wardrobe. In order to get the right look, choose a frame that will complement your facial structure. The shape and size of the frame matters, it should be proportionate to the size of your face. Frames are usually made of plastic, nylon, metal or metal alloy. For a round face, a square shape frame will look best. If you have Square face, choose a round frame. Long narrow face can use wrap around oval frames. Some sunglasses have mirrored coating on the outer surface. The colour of the mirrored surface is irrelevant to the colour of the lens. These types of sunglasses are called mirror shades.

If you have a, Square face choose a . round frame

Always buy sunglasses with UV Protection. Wearing the wrong kind of sunglasses, one that does not provide any UV protection, is more likely to cause damage to your eyes rather than protect them. Now, why is that? When we wear sunglasses, the coloured tint of the lenses blocks the light from our eyes. It causes our pupils to dilate in order to get more light from the surroundings and to continue seeing properly. If the lenses do not have UV protection, these rays will pass right through the lenses and into our eyes. This is worse than not wearing sunglasses at all. Prolonged exposure of the eyes to UV rays can cause various eye ailments like corneal sunburn, cataracts, even blindness. And so it becomes imperative for us to make sure that the sunglasses we wear have nothing less than 100% UV protection. You can do this by checking its OSHA label. When buying sunglasses, better opt for one that is close-fitting, wrap-around or have larger lenses. This will prevent light from getting into your eyes. You may also want to bear in mind that just because a pair of shades are quite pricey, it doesn’t mean that you will get the UV protection you want from it. The more expensive types of sunglasses count more for style or durability rather than UV protection. Sunglasses are more than mere accessories that showcase our fashion sense. They are shields that protect our delicate eyes from the harmful sunshine. Keep one with you always, regardless of the season, and safeguard your eyes.

Hair

7 Steps to Create Fabulous Straight Hair Are you one of those women who have been blessed with natural long straight hair? You must count yourself lucky because a lot of women envy you and would die for your hair! But for those of you, who weren’t born with it, there are only 7 easy steps that stand between you and your fashionably straight hair! Step 1. Know Your Hair … Is it straight? Slightly straight? Wavy or curly? Thick hair that is straight but wavy in the end is the easiest to work with. Fine, curly hair with little body in it can be a struggle to style. You must know what kind of hair you have to be able to figure out how to deal with your hair. Step 2. Wash It Clean … Straight hair should always start with a clean shampooed hair to keep it from looking oily rather than shiny. Wash with Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner to keep your hair healthy and looking light and bouncy. Step 3. Slightly Dry Your Hair … Partially dry your hair while using a wide-toothed comb to get rid of all the tangles and excess water. You can also do this with a fan if you think a blow dryer is too hot. Step 4. Use Volumising Products … Spread a handful of mousse or spray a volumising tonic to your hair from tips to ends for that extra oomph! This will keep your hair from looking limp and hold the style over time.

42

Step 5. Blow Dry Your Hair Straight … Pin hair up and blow dry small portions of hair. Use a big, round brush and brush underneath from roots to tips. Keep the tension without tugging too hard. Let the blow dryer follow the movement of the brush. Continue until hair is completely dry. Step 6. Iron Your Hair Straight … Iron your hair only when it is completely dry. Never iron with a slightly damp hair as this will damage your hair. Section your hair into manageable section and iron from the roots to the tips. After each draw, comb hair straight and continue until all your hair is straight and smooth. Step 7. Spray Gloss or Serum … Use a small amount of gloss or serum and smooth over hair to remove any frizz and finish off your look. Keep the bottle in your bag to retouch and manage your hair every once in a while. If all else fails and you really, really, really want natural looking straight hair…have a professional straighten your hair and keep it manageable for about 6 months. We see wavy hair come in and out of fashion – but straight hair is always fashion forward and even more now.

Make-Up

COLOUR COMBOS A

lright ladies, some women (who shall remain nameless you know who you are) have such a regimented beauty routine, they could do it in their sleep. During the winter months, you can blame the dull weather for lack of inspiration, but now that it’s summer, it’s time to play! Don’t be afraid to ditch that dark brown eye shadow...here are some tips for trying out a great summer combo:

Gold and Green 1. Soft cream gold shadow with dark, forest green eyeliner. Smudge liner softly for a sultry effect. 2. Using a neutral eye colour or a soft gold shadow as a base, line the out three quarters of the eye with green liner. Line the innermost part of your eye with a gold pencil and blend into the green liner. 3. For a sexy gaze that’ll catch anyone’s eye, try lining the top of your lid with a soft gold shadow and line the inner rim of your lower lid with a green shadow. 4. For a more dramatic look, try a traditional smoky eye with a gold base all over the lid and a dark green shadow in the crease. Blend, blend, and blend. Tip: For more intense colour, line your eyes and draw over the line with the matching shadow. The shadow grabs hold of the liner and intensifies the colour.

44

Try all different shades and shimmers to find the one that best suits you. Just remember three things whenever you’re experimenting with colours: 1. There are no rules to makeup. 2. If you’re already outside by the time you notice that you’ve overdone it, that’s what sunglasses are for! 3. Most importantly, have fun with it!

Instant Hydrating Lotion... Immediate Hydration for the day!!! Tried and tested by the B Mag Team

I hate waking up in the morning and my skin is looking really dry and lifeless. I looked around for something to use that could be applied quickly and would last all day. I had tried a few products but didn’t like them, and then I found “LOCION HIDRATANTE PERFECTA” from NATURAL HONEY. After I have my morning shower, I spend a couple of minutes applying the lotion. Immediately my skin feels smooth and radiant and no longer feels or seems lifeless. I am good to go and continue with my busy day ahead. I feel cool and fresh and that feeling stays with me throughout the day…..even in this heat. After using the Instant Body Milk my skin felt hydrated and soft. It is refreshing to note that a product simply does what it is meant to do. It is light and refreshing and is un-perfumed so as not to clash with your own perfume. With everyday use, my skin now looks a lot healthier, smooth and fresher. Instant Body Milk is perfect for dehydrated or tired skin. Its ideal hydration boosts the skin’s natural moisturising system. AND LADIES, NATURAL HONEY HAS NOW INTRODUCED LOVE LOTION…immediate hydration for the night!

“Totally smooth and seductive, it claims to be irresistible to 9 out of every 10 men. “ It is guaranteed to wake up your sexy streak. Use without moderation and do not go out at night without it. Test out its guarantee of attracting any 9 out of 10 men and its boast that men are arrested by the fragrance. AND YOU OTHER LADIES OUT THERE……there is no harm in putting it on during the day! Who knows? NATURAL HONEY promises this product will be the fragrance of the summer and are shortly introducing LOVE DEO…a deodorant with the same fragrance and HOPEFULLY, the same effect. We will try it out in the future. This truly is a light, clean-feeling, non-greasy, everyday lotion. The creamy texture delivers heavy-duty hydration but with a fast sink-in factor that allows you to get dressed right away. Bianca Chiara B Mag Editor “The Instant Body Milk was really soothing and refreshing, left my skin feeling very hydrated. My recommendation with the Love Lotion is to use it daily and best used after a bath/shower when the skin is most receptive.” – Jade Garcia (B Mag Cover Girl) “Using the Instant Body Milk, left my skin very soothing, shiny and stress relieved. I felt fresh and new after a long day at rehearsals. This Love Lotion is so good.... and my skin has never felt better. I used it right after my shower, and I instantly felt clean and refreshed. I love the clean, soft and sensual scent that it gives off. My skin is completely luxurious to the touch from head to toe.” – Karess Zammit (B Mag Fashion Hunter)

S P I T P TO

Summer means lots of sun and oilier skin. That means you need to watch the heat, protect yourself from the cancer causing UV rays and adjust your skincare regime. There are no rules set in stone, but here are some general guidelines to make it through the hot summer season!

for a healthy 1

Drink plenty of water to reduce the risk of heat stroke. Start the day with at least 1 large glass of water and drink another large glass of water before stepping outdoors. It would help you hydrate your skin from within.

3 Do even-out your

tan when you’re showing some leg. There is nothing sexy about sun-kissed arms and ghostly legs.

6

Never ever leave the house without sunscreen. The most common mistake. Make sure every inch of you is covered! Use a lotion over your face and body with at least SPF 15 to ward off the skin cancer inducing UV rays. Use it liberally and reapply frequently. Besides increasing the risk of skin cancer, exposure to the sun’s UV rays damages your skin and causes premature aging. Hence the best anti-aging skin care involves the use of a sun-block.

4 Don’t forget to moisturise. Lying in the sun for extended periods of time and swimming in the ocean cause skin to dry out.

When it comes to makeup, go light. Switch from a foundation to a tinted moisturiser. It would reduce your risk of a make-up meltdown.

2

Protect your eyes with large sunglasses. Sun exposure increases the risk of cataracts so put on those shades.

5

Chipped nail polish on your toes is about as attractive as chewed nails and split ends. This is the season for your feet to shine! Don’t let them down.

8 Mix up your

fragrance. Heavy, musky scents are not summerfriendly.

9

Lighten your skin care in summer. Change your facial moisturiser; GLOSS girls know that the key times to change moisturisers are in the summer and wintertime. This is the time when your skin gets oilier and more spot prone. You might want to switch to skin care products that are water-based instead.

12

Wear a hat to protect your hair and for more shade from the blazing summer sun.

13 For night, 14

line and colour your lips with lip liner. Then go over your coloured lips with a lip gloss. This would outlast your usual lipstick, and is perfect for summer.

10

Ditch the black eyeliner. It’s summer for crying out loud. If you have to go dark, try a forest green instead. Think colour. Line your eyes with a bright coloured eye shadow like violet or turquoise. For more glamour, try coloured mascara in the same shade if possible.

During the day, used a coloured lip gloss instead of lipstick for kissable lips that are more casual.

Arm yourself with a tube of aloe vera gel. It is wonderful for healing sunburns. On top of that, it is a great oil-free moisturizer for face and body.

15 Don’t for-

get your brows! A lightly tinted brow gel will not only keep your brows in shape, it’ll add some colour to them, preventing the “Where did your eyebrows go?” inquisition. 47

Remember this is the only wedding you will hopefully ever have so make the most of it and relish every precious moment in your day. Summer Themed Wedding Roses, butterflies and sunshine are in plenty during the months June to September and certainly help towards planning your perfect Summer Wedding. Out of all the seasons to get married, summer it has been said is usually one of the best to give you the most choice from picking a venue to eating alfresco. Summer colours of cornflower blue to fuchsia pink, turquoise to white, corn yellow to grass green, as well as rose pinks and reds. The choice is endless and the combinations are many. Summer Themed Bride Brides have a vast choice of sleeveless and strapless dresses at any time during the year and summer is the one time that you won’t have to worry about being cold or having to use that fur wrap to cover your arms. Light silks, chiffon, organdie and georgette are wonderful, breezy and light. An elegant lacy parasol complete with a tied lace handbag could not only compliment your outfit, but also keep you in the shade and be used as a prop when photographs are being taken. If you are holding your wedding outside on the grass, go barefoot with ribbons tied around your ankles and toenails painted the same colour as your bouquet or bridesmaids dresses.

48

Summer Weddings Summer Themed Groom Grooms as we all know tend to get a bit nervous while waiting for their bride to turn up. What better reason to wear a light coloured suit made out of a breathable fabric of cream, pale grey or champagne.

Summer Themed Photography Getting married during the summer months with the fresh green grass, fully leafed trees and an abundance of brightly coloured flowers gives the background of your photographs wonderful scenery.

If you are going for that non formal wedding, your groom can wear just his shirt, cravat and a waistcoat. There are some stunning waistcoats that are unfortunately hidden beneath a suit.

A hot summer days will make any lake or stream brighter in colour and with luck, you could have some breathtaking skies as a backdrop.

In keeping with the summer theme the waistcoat pattern could be of flowers, bees or butterflies.

Plan how you would like your wedding album to look. It could be along the lines of a story book with comments that are a mixture of funny and wonderful tear jerking moments. Take into consideration if you plan to feed your photographer at the reception and always ask if he intends to bring along an assistant! If your reception is to be a sit down meal, arrange for a small table to be set up for them.

Summer Themed Wedding Participants Bridesmaid dresses can be short or long, backless or strapless and with the array of summer dresses nowadays, they can be purchased from any fashion outlet, saving a small fortune for many brides on a budget. Light sandals will be cooling to aching feet that may be standing around for a few hours. Pageboys can wear crisp white shirts with linen trousers and flower girls can be dressed in light cotton dresses with halos of flowers in their hair. Summer Themed Wedding Favours Favours on a hot summer day could be a gift of a silk or wooden fan or a paper parasol – a gift your guest would appreciate if the day is hot and sticky. Soap or candles in the shape of flowers, packets of summer flower seeds wrapped in ribbons matching your bouquet. Chocolate favours could be a bit disastrous with the heat, so if you are considering giving sweets think carefully before choosing.

Summer Themed Wedding Cake Wedding cakes today are truly works of art that seem a sin to slice through them. Strawberries, roses and ribbons can make a plain white iced cake look fresh and romantic, as well as cupcakes with butterflies, bees and summer flowers standing on tall pillars look fresh and inviting. Chocolate cakes adorned with mouth watering mini flakes and cherries or fresh fruit pieces such as strawberries, raspberries or similar would look vibrant and mouth watering. Summer Themed Venue Decorations Decorating your venue can be one of the biggest choices you will make for your summer wedding. You could go for the crisp fresh white look with pastels, cream coloured daisies, lemons and lime colours and that old favourite, roses! It’s amazing how a selection of balloons, ribbons, garlands and bows can change the look of a room. These can be placed on the walls and tables, around arches and windows. Coloured or plain white lights can be used if the venue is to be held outdoors, bringing that extra sparkle to your evening reception. Trees can be decorated with hanging ribbons and garlands.

49

Bridal Room Summer Themed Wedding Stationery Personalised wedding stationery is very popular and you can have a lot of fun designing your own custom made invites as well as the church service, table settings, napkins, favours and photo albums. It can be matched to the bride’s flowers, bridesmaid’s dresses or any theme you are planning to hold. Rich creams with embossed red roses and trailing ivy still seem to be the most popular for the summer, but anything goes with the vast choice of colours and arrangements from the venue to the beach. Combination colours of sharp lemons and limes or buttery creams that compliment and bring out the vibrancy of strawberry, peach, lilac or coffee. Pinks and greens, reds and white, pastels and the return of the popular black and white are very much in evidence. Wedding invitations can be adorned with pictures of dazzling summer scenery, lakes and mountains, trees or flowers that match your own bouquet, to a simple red rose, pearls and diamantes to ribbons and bows.

guidance over volume levels to ensure that everyone is kept happy. If your wedding is going to involve lots of children, a magician, face painter or a balloonist can help keep them amused. A craft table could be set up in the corner with paper and felt crafts. Glue or anything sticky would not be recommended for obvious reasons. Summer Themed Table Decorations Table decorations can be anything you wish………clear glass bowls filled with fresh lemons and limes, Victorian roses or pebbles to daisies in silver buckets. Candles that can be lit for evening reception with coloured balloons or roses scattered around the table. You can match your table decorations to your dessert menu (as in the colours of ice cream sundaes, yellow and white daisies to match your banana splits and the colour of the fresh fruit you have in the meringues). Summer Themed Wedding Flowers Wedding bouquets during the summer can be somewhat difficult to choose as there is so much choice. Fuchsia, Carnation, Peony, Orchid, Gardenia and Delphinium are just a handful of what is on offer, along with Sunflowers, Roses, Dahlias and Hydrangea. Outside venues can be set in gardens of sweet smelling Jasmine, Hollyhocks and Heather. White Lilly of the Valley, Roses, Daisies’ and Orchids can be used in stark contrast to brilliant colours as in, hot pinks, turquoise, lemons and limes to keep things fresh and attractive. Roses are the traditional wedding flower and they are still the most popular. With the huge selection of colours and sizes they are used for bouquets, weaved through hair, placed on the table and made into garlands for venue decorations.

Summer Themed Wedding Breakfast / Evening Reception Wedding breakfast can be something light as in watermelons, strawberries and grapes with freshly baked rolls and creamy butter, cheeses and honey glazed ham.

Imagine how your photographs can turn out with you sitting in a field of Bluebells, daisies and cornflowers, or bushes of Roses and Hyacinths around you and your guests.

“Afternoon or evening reception may be too warm to have a hot meal so you could opt for the summer buffet with hams, turkeys, salmon, crisp fresh salads and fruit with jacket potatoes, or for outside receptions what better than the summer barbeque!” Desserts that can compliment your summered themed wedding could be along the lines of ice cream sundaes, banana splits and meringues filled with fresh fruit and cream. Summer Themed Wedding Music Al fresco music is very much in demand during summer weddings. Live musician(s) can be ideal for your guests to listen to while you are having your photo shoots, along with serving glasses of chilled wine. After the meal, speeches and cutting of the cake is really where the music and dancing really starts. A good way to ensure that all ages are catered for at your reception if to have musical slips from your DJ or band can be placed on the tables for your guests to choose their favourite tunes/songs. The traditional love tune for the bride and grooms first dance can be replaced with one of your favourite songs with a small ‘show’ that you will have practiced beforehand, giving your guest one of many ‘wow’ factors of your wedding. When choosing a DJ / Disco for your wedding reception also remember to give him / her an indication of the music required and 50

Summer Themed Wedding Transport Hot sunshine days cry out for brides to be transported in an open topped horse drawn carriage, vintage or sports car. If your wedding is going to be held in castle grounds or have a medieval theme, what better way for your groom to arrive than on a white stead? Limousines are still the height of luxury and elegance, padded with fur and satin, or pure soft white leather, they will no doubt mark the start of your journey on your very special day. Double Decker buses can be hired to transport your guests from the church to your reception with glasses of chilled water or wine to quench their thirst on a hot summer day.

Summer Weddings The Finishing Touches Have a slice of strawberry or fruit that compliments your colours into your toast glasses. Have fresh fruit in bowls around your venue so that your guests can nibble away as it takes their fancy.

Money Saving Tips Weekends are always more expensive to get married. If you can work out that the people you really want at your wedding can take off an extra day in the week, try and go for mid week, Friday or Sunday. This will save you a substantial amount of money on the venue, photographer, band/DJ, hotel rooms and car hire.

“If you are on a tight budget, to help cut the cost of the food bill down, invite only those that you really want there to spend your special day with you. Don’t have children unless they are immediate family and choose the wording on your invite to show that no ‘extra’ guests can accompany them.”

Instead of having the extra cost of a dessert, why not use your wedding cake for this! Most guests either forget to take it home or it can get left on the table to be shoved into a handbag at the end of the night. Or if you truly want a dessert, have a light one such as ice cream with a fresh fruit selection or meringue topped with summer strawberries and cream. If possible, try and get married late in the afternoon. This can save on having a day and an evening reception, plus the cost of an extra buffet. Take advantage of the warm lighted summer evenings and serve punch bowls of light alcoholic drinks instead of costly bottles of wine for your toast.

Wedding of The Month

A

hhh young love! Starry eyes, giggles, smiles, romance and intimate moments. Ivanka’s glowing complexion, sparkly green eyes and bashful laughter give it away: she’s really excited to talk about her wedding day and the 9 special years of courtship between Shane (her husband) and herself. At one point during the interview, Ivanka puts the microphone down and pulls her wedding album out as she has trouble explaining what her wedding dress looked like, the effort her cousins put in to her cake and what her husband looks like on their wedding day. Now that the photos were in front of us, they depict the love between the couple. Lovely black and white shoots of Ivanka and Shane depicts that romantic bliss, trust and happiness continues to grow.

The walk down the aisle proved to be emotional for her father (she shows me a picture of him red faced and teary eyed) when he handed her over to her future husband. Everything was complete - her 3 bridesmaid, maid of honour, 2 page boys, flower girl, as well as Shane’s 3 best men, stood around the glowing couple for the ceremony to begin.

Every bride worries, especially when they look outside the window on their big day only to find torrential rain. It’s what they all dread. Unfortunately for Ivanka, her wedding day was blessed with a thunderstorm on 9th may 2009. Even whilst she dressed into her beautiful gown, her concern grew when she saw the rain was ruining her chance of her photo shoot at the famous Alameda Gardens. However, once she arrived at St.Mary’s Cathedral - the sun began to shine, which definitely raised her spirits.

What do you like most about your relationship? I like everything about it - the positive as well as the negative. Because Shane and I have dated for 9 and a half years it feels like we’re best friends, which means we are both comfortable with one another. It’s great because we can talk about anything! Sometimes I get annoyed with him, especially when he’s messy and leaves things about - however I know those things are normal, so I don’t get too annoyed about it.

This is where Ivanka begins her story.... Before getting into a relationship, what qualities were you looking for in a partner? I was very young when I got into a relationship, so I didn’t know exactly what I wanted. It was only when I met Shane and started spending a lot of time with him that I realised I wanted a loving, caring and understanding person in my life.

Wedding of The Month How did you meet? And where was your first date? I was at the BP petrol station with my friend who knew Shane. Whilst we were there, he drove past on his bike to work and he saw me. Minutes after, my friend received a text from him saying he wanted my number. I was really excited and agreed to meet up with him as I liked him too. We went to the cinema on our first date to watch “In too deep”. Afterwards he walked me home, making sure I arrived safely. Do you think fate brought you two together? All I can say is things happen for a reason. Before Shane inquired about me, I already fancied him. It was quite strange because for a year I didn’t see him around then all of a sudden he turned up asking me out! How and where did he propose? We went for a holiday to Riu Chiclana Hotel for a week on 16th June 2006. It was an all inclusive package with bed, breakfast and dinner. During the trip Shane was behaving strangely; he kept touching his pockets, looking nervous most of the time. When we arrived we went straight to the restaurant. The staff were extra nice, bringing us champagne, food and desserts - which again was quite strange as it was a self-service buffet. For dessert, I saw an apple flan, which Shane kept encouraging me to have. He asked me to lift up the apple to give him a piece and that’s where I saw the ring. I turned around and he was on his knee asking me to marry him. What were the wedding preparations like? Very stressful, I was still looking for accessories for my dress, (the veil, shoes, hair clips), making sure I had chosen a DJ and a month before the wedding I changed my mind about the wedding venue: originally it was going to be held in Spain but then we moved it to Gibraltar’s Central Hall. You see, my father always wished I would get married in my hometown. Another reason was I knew a lot of my guests would be having a good time, wanting to drink and be merry. I knew if I held it in Spain many guests wouldn’t be able to drink. What was the best moment? Gosh, everything! From walking into the church with my father, to the reception party afterwards - I just loved every moment. One of my friends told me when I had the chance, to sit back and appreciate all the hard work I had put in. I had the chance to do this and I felt emotionally overwhelmed. Describe the wedding cake My cousins made 5 cakes for me: 3 large, 1 medium and 1 small, all with hand made roses and butterflies in peach and lilac. All of the designs were elegantly handmade with a romantic wedding couple statue placed on one of the cakes. It was beautiful. Your dress was beautiful - where did you purchase it? Thank you, I got my dress from Pronovias in Spain. It’s an ivory coloured wild silk boob tube dress, with embroidered flowers and embellished polka dote voile on the side. I spent 1,600 euros on the dress alone. Where did you go for your honeymoon? Did you buy each other any presents? 5 days to Miami, 15 days on a Caribbean cruise, 2 days in London; we then returned to Gibraltar and went to Chiclana for 5 days. Shane bought me a gold opal pendant and ring and I bought him a gold Versace charm. You’ve been with each other for a very long time. Now that you have finally married do you feel there is a difference? We’ve been living together for 3 years now, so the marriage thing feels normal to me. I don’t feel there is a major difference. I’m just really happy to be with him and spend the rest of my life with Shane.

(July 23 - August 23)

(August 24 - September 22)

You’re in demand, so make sure you are ready to work extra hours and show those in control that you mean business. When you take on more responsibility you become the person who everyone wants to know. This is the month to move your career into top gear, you’re unstoppable. Take advantage of opportunities that cross your path, and don’t apologise for being in the right place at the right time.

News of a change at work can come through this month, however don’t make a judgment too soon, wait till all the details have been revealed. Moving too fast could end up placing you in a vulnerable position. Stand back, and look, listen and learn and if all the pieces are still not clear, then read between the lines by paying attention to what people don’t say.

Money is highlighted throughout the month and even with the current financial climate you can hit the jackpot. However, if you do receive an extra bonus, it would be wise not to go crazy. As having a healthy bank account is something that relieves stress in your life, putting some cash aside for security will help you sleep better at night.

scorpio (October 23 - November 21)

Beware of taking on too much. You might be able to handle everything, but what’s the point if you end up exhausted. Pace yourself and incorporate some life balance into your lifestyle so you can enjoy catching up with friends and have some serious fun. If you’ve been waiting for financial news, then it’s likely to come through, but it will need your proactive nature to get the ball rolling.

pisces (February 19 - March 20)

Sparks get flying at the office and makes way for action to take place. If things have been going slower than you’d like, now’s the time to take the reins and take control. Letting others work at their own pace could be detrimental to the big picture. Don’t forget you are in charge of your own life, so don’t let someone else step on your territory and try to take over.

Celebrity Cancer’s: Ashley Tisdale, Pamela Anderson & Selma Blair

(June 21 - July 22)

libra

(September 23 - October 22)

Everything at work will be just that little bit easier. Expect to be having discussions about something new and exciting. If other people are looking after your finances, keep a close eye on what’s happening. Delegating some jobs is smart, but when it concerns money, you need to stay in control.

sagittarius

capricorn

(November 22 - December 21)

(December 22 - January 19)

Be careful of being too optimistic as it can cloud your vision as to what is really happening. Be realistic and see things as they are, so there are no surprises down the track. Allowing others to make mistakes without fear of being judged can strengthen relationships of a professional nature as well as with family and friends.

If you’ve been promised some extra cash and it’s been delayed, don’t panic, it’s still on the way. Not everything is going to happen in the time that you want it to. You are a mover and shaker, someone who puts thoughts into action and makes things happen, but not everyone has the same mentality, inclination, or energy.

aries (March 21- April 19)

Be prepared to make some adjustments at work. There is no point digging your heels in trying to keep someone to their word if a situation is not within their control. Doing what’s right for you as well as for someone else can be a challenge, but if you can manage to meet half way it will be worthwhile. Getting along with others can help bring extra money to your back pocket. It’s the relationships that you build in life, which can have a profound effect on how successful you are.

taurus (April 20 - May 20)

Keep a positive attitude and you will get ahead in business. Things are progressing, and even if they aren’t moving exactly as you’d like them to, they are still going forward. Look at what’s happening rather than what isn’t, and you’ll see that there’s more good than bad.

aquarius (January 20 - February 18)

You can just about write your own career ticket at the moment, or at least influence others to your way of thinking. Don’t miss this opportunity to show the people who count that you are in control. Family business takes precedence, so don’t be surprised if you need to be on call to lend a helping hand with an urgent matter that just can’t wait.

gemini (May 21 - June 20)

Sharing brilliant ideas and suggestions of how to increase productivity will get you noticed, and could even get you a promotion or offer to do something different. Keep up the good work, this is only the beginning – you have an opportunity to raise your profile now. Money matters could need reviewing, but in the best possible way. If you’re in receipt of some good news you’ll want to reassess how you are managing your money.
