Design Brief The site, located in Mantua Neighborhood between 36th and Wallace street is a residential block which is proposed to have adittional rowhomes with a mixed use of residential and commercial.
Design Concept Accessible The concept for the project needed to have clear and easy use of accessibility. Accessibility in a residential unit promotes the quality of being able to be relaxed or entered. Accessibility is shown by different variations of circulation such as horizontal (stairs, ramps, hallways) and vertical (elevator). Multi Unit The multi unit Row-home focuses on horizontality. It is separated by floors rather than by walls. The building is divided into three parts vertically which makeup the circulation center in the middle and two units on each end. Dividing it horizontally by floors, creates different spaces within one unit. First floor is where the living space and kitchen are located whereas the second and the third floor is where the rooms are. Each floor has a different ceiling level height in order to enhance a different feel between each room. Live/Work The live/work space is a space created to combine dwelling and workspace all in one building, It includes a mix of loft/studio/single bedroom and work space. It promotes isolation and privacy as well as open public areas meant for gathering. The first floor consists of an office space strictly for working, whereas the second floor consists of a gathering, more relaxed area where meetings could be held or lunch breaks are taken. On the other hand, the third floor consists of a residential unit held private.
