Scuba Diving: Equipment Explore a whole new world full of thrill and mystery by joining a team of scuba divers led by a professional guide. Scuba diving is gaining more favor amongst all the other water sports as it opens the gate to a world which has not been explored much by general public. People are dubious over the risks involved in this activity but these are only excuses. With the advent of scuba diving equipment and gears, practicing it has become safer than before. Listen instructions, understand them well and implement while practicing. Some of the must have equipment are as follows: Mask: Scuba mask helps the diver to see clearly underwater. Lens used must be made of tempered glass or from a top-notch composite material for more safety and should be low profile for easier and faster clearing of water. Corrective lens can be used for individuals wearing specs which can be bought from the diving store. Mask should not be too tight as that could cause air leakage. Adjustable strap helps to keep the mask steady on the face. Scuba Cylinder: Scuba Cylinder is one of the most important equipment as it allows the diver to survive under water for a long period of time by supplying oxygen. If you are going to try it for the first time and considering it quite expensive, then it is suggested to rent it rather than buying. The cylinder is available in various components but is most preferred in steel or aluminum and consists of a valve which controls the outflow of air from the cylinder. An o-ring helps to lock the regulator with the tank. Wet suit: Wet suits can also be called exposure protection suits as they not only protect the diver from change in the temperature but also safeguard them from cuts or bruises which would sting more underwater. The thickness of wet suits depends on the temperature of the water that the diver is going into with 3mm being most common for warm water and 7mm for cold water. The suits are made of neoprene material and should fit the body snugly but not too tight as that would restrict the diver. There are three different styles available – Shorties: they are thigh/knee length short sleeves suits with 3mm thickness, Full body suits: they cover full arms and legs and are available in various thicknesses, Two piece suits: they provide double insulation to the body which makes them most popular among the divers for cold water. BCD: BCD is an abbreviation for buoyancy control device which helps the diver to control their buoyancy underwater so that they can float on the surface or drift along mid-water or maybe stand on the bottom under water. The basic features that BCD consists of are – over-pressure valve, oral inflation mechanism, tank holder and back plate. Scuba Diving is one of those rare activities which provide humans with an insight on life that do not survive on land. It opens the gate to the beauty that earlier we were not privy to and as such should be enjoyed by each and every one if given a chance but with proper precautions.
