Jericho Season Four picks up right where the exciting conclusion of Season Three left off: Civil War is looming between the East and West, the resistance against the Allied States is thriving in Kansas, and John Smith, the mastermind behind the September Attacks, has become a citizen of Jericho. With Jake Green and Robert Hawkins back home, things in town are not as our heroes left them. Hawkins is distraught to learn that his daughter Allison has left for the volatile front lines of the East, to work as a volunteer. Jake is forced to tackle new domestic challenges head on, when he realizes that Emily wants to move things forward in their complicated relationship. And unbeknownst to the resistance, Valente of the A.S.A. has dispatched his right-hand man, Adam Palmer, to infiltrate Jericho. But the biggest piece on the chessboard for Jake and Hawkins continues to be John Smith. Now that he's at the disposal of the resistance—along with The Precipice (Smith's flash-drive that contains invaluable secrets about J & R and the A.S.A.)—Major Beck wants to integrate him into town under a cover identity. Working as a local schoolteacher, who works side by side with Emily, Smith can remain anonymous and off the radar of the A.S.A., which allows him to continue to aide the resistance in their fight. Hawkins and Jake, too frightened to tell others the truth about Smith, lest they have a riot on their hands, must stand back and watch as John Smith makes Jericho his home.
