Story so far… The iron fist of the New Order regime has declared all magic banned from society, and sibling teenagers Whit & Wisty Allgood are on the run, hunted by its leader, The One Who Is The One. While aiding the children’s resistance movement in Freeland, they learn of the N.O.’s plan to invade and control the mysterious Shadowland dimension. Whit leads a recon mission to The City Of Progress. There, they discover the secret of the techno-magic devices enabling the invasion, but not before The One murders their friend, Maritza. Meanwhile, Wisty uses her magic to repel an N.O. scouting party, in the process catching glimpses of other, more dangerous dimensions. Whit and Wisty subsequently cast a powerful spell, placing a curse on the devices. They then join the battle in Shadowland, aided by their friend Morris, and his fellow half-lights (ghosts of kids killed by the N.O.). The curse finally takes effect, driving Shadowland's fearsome Lost Ones—soulless creatures hungry for the warmth of the living—to the troops, forcing them to abandon the cursed devices. Savoring their small victory, the siblings are nonetheless aware that The One is nothing but ruthless, cunning, and, above all, patient.
