Welcome to the EBSCOhost Advanced Search, Guided Style tutorial, where you will learn about the key Advanced Search screen features,, from limiters and expanders, p , the abilityy to save searches,, set up p Search and Journal Alerts, search Publications and browse Indexes, to how to manage search results in your personalized My EBSCOhost folder.
CONDUCT SEARCH: Guided Style searching allows you to simultaneously search for different terms in varying article citation fields fields. Begin by entering a search term in the first Find field, field and then select which field(s) to search, from the drop-down list, such as Subject Terms.
Guide your search using a second term, such as a publication name, and select the SO Journal Name field. You may y enter a third search term and choose the All Text field to have EBSCOhost look within the full text of all articles for your term. Note: You can conduct command line searches using the appropriate field tags, e.g., SO for Journal Name, in front of the search term in the Find field.
SET LIMITERS: Under the Search Options, the Advanced Search Screen offers additional search limiters for increased result refinement refinement. For example, example you can limit results to Full Text articles within a specified date range. Click Search to view the Result List.
RESULT LIST: You can sort the Result List by Date, Source, Author, or Relevance using the drop-down list at the top. You can also view results sorted by any subject shown along the left of the list. Results can be saved in the temporary session folder by clicking on the Add to folder icon.
To p place a link to the search in yyour p personal folder,, click Alert/Save/Share. From the resulting g menu, choose Add search to folder. From this menu, you can also create an alert or an RSS feed, copy a persistent link (Permalink) to your search, or add a bookmark to your web browser favorites.
My EBSCOhost PERSONALIZED FOLDER: To save results beyond the current session, log in to My EBSCOhost, where saved items will remain until you delete them. SEARCH HISTORY/ALERTS OPTIONS: Click the Search History/Alerts link under the Find field to access Search History options. From here you can rerun a previously conducted search by marking the check h kb box iin ffrontt off it and d clicking li ki Add. Add Or, O you can Print P i t your Search S h History, Hi t R Retrieve ti S Searches h or Al Alerts, t Save Searches or Alerts, or Clear your Search History via the corresponding hyperlinks.
SAVE SEARCHES by clicking on the Save Searches/Alerts link after you have conducted a search you would like to save in your personalized folder folder. This function always applies to the most recently conducted search.
Fill in the fields and choose the radio button in front of the Permanent or Temporary Saved Search option, and then click on the Save button. Your search criteria will remain in your personalized My EBSCOhost folder until you delete it.

Fill in the Alert form and choose how often you want it to run, the period from which you want articles included, how long you want the alert to run, and to what e-mail address you want the results sent. Click Save to complete the Alert setup process. Your alert will be saved in My EBSCOhost until you delete it.
PUBLICATIONS can be searched directly using the Publications authority file button along the top toolbar. Click on it to see an alphabetized list of every publication represented in the database.
JOURNAL ALERTS can be set up using the same Publications authority file button. Click on Publications to see the alphabetized list of publications available, choose the one you want to set up as an alert, and click on the hyperlinked publication name.
Click on the Alert/Save/Share link in the upper right corner of the resulting publication details page and then select Create an Alert.
Complete p the form by y indicating g how long g yyou want the alert to run,, and where yyou want the results sent. You can customize the Subject line to ensure that when the alert arrives, you will recognize it. You can also customize the alert e-mail From address to accommodate e-mail virus protection, which might otherwise block messages bearing the default From address shown here.
INDEXES: You can browse a list of indexes for a specific database. Click on the More link along the top toolbar and select Indexes. Select a field within which y you want your y search to take p place,, such as Journal Name, and then enter a corresponding search term, such as Time. Click Browse.
EBSCOhost returns a list of all publications beginning with the word Time, which are represented in the current database. database
To search within a publication from the list list, check the box in front of it and click the Add button. button The publication name and its field code are now in the Find field. Click Search.
The Journal title will appear in bold in the result list. Click on an article title to view the article citation.
