Dear Friends, We are writing to you to let you know that we have negotiated a licence for the Web of Knowledge with Thomson Reuters. As you know, we at the FECYT are working on a way to make better use of the electronic resources available to the Spanish scientific and research community. As a result, we have carried out a thorough analysis of the use of the Web of Knowledge (WOK) databases. The results of this analysis have shown that some of these databases are seldom used, in some cases varying from 1 to 7% of all searches. Given this information, we have reached a new agreement with Thomson Reuters that is more in line with the actual needs and uses of the scientific community. The new licence will be valid until December 2013 and will allow access to several of the most helpful databases used by researchers, such as the Web of Science, Journal Citation Report and Essential Science Indicators. One of the consequences of this agreement – which involves a 35% reduction in the cost of the national licence – is that as from August 2010, the Current Content Connect, ISI Proceedings, Derwent Innovation Index and Medline databases will no longer be available. However, researchers will still be able to access the historical data through 2009 contained in the cancelled databases through channels that we will make available to you. We would like to note that, thanks to the savings obtained through these negotiations, the FECYT is studying the possibility of incorporating new tools for researchers that are not currently available to all of the Spanish scientific community. In this respect, we hope to continue enjoying your collaboration in identifying these resources as your feedback is very useful to us. Estimados amigos, Nos dirigimos a vosotros para informaros que se ha llevado a cabo un proceso de negociación de la licencia de la Web of Knowledge con Thomson- Reuters. Como sabéis, desde la FECYT, estamos trabajando en un mejor aprovechamiento de los recursos electrónicos disponibles para la comunidad científica e investigadora española para lo cual hemos llevado a cabo un análisis exhaustivo de la utilización de las bases de datos de la Web of Knowledge (WOK). Fruto de este análisis se ha detectado que algunas de estas bases tienen un porcentaje muy bajo de consumo, variando en algunos casos entre el 1 y el 7% del total de consultas. Teniendo en cuenta esta información, hemos llegado a un nuevo acuerdo con Thomson Reuters más acorde con las verdaderas necesidades y usos de la comunidad científica. La nueva licencia estará vigente hasta diciembre de 2013 y permitirá el acceso a las bases de datos más utilizadas por los investigadores como son la Web of Science, Journal Citation Report y Essential Science Indicators. Una consecuencia de este acuerdo, que supone una reducción del 35% importe de la licencia nacional, es que a partir del mes de agosto de 2010 las bases de datos Current Content Connect, Isi Proceedings, Derwent Innovation Index y Medline dejarán de estar disponibles. Sin embargo, los investigadores podrán seguir accediendo a los datos históricos hasta el 2009 de las bases de datos canceladas, a través de canales que pondremos a su disposición. Señalar que gracias al ahorro alcanzado con esta negociación, FECYT está estudiando la posibilidad de incorporar nuevas herramientas para los investigadores que en estos momentos no están al alcance de toda la comunidad científica española.
