CELEBRATING CHANGE. IEAS BUSINESS PLATFORM
1.
Cătălin NEAMȚU DK Expo President
The trade fairs industry has changed in the past years, evolving from a formula of specific business events to more complex and multi-task communication platforms. International Electric & Automation Show was launched in 2005 and since then it embodied a crucial interface between companies, the interconnected markets, and key decision-makers from governmental or professional associations. The global evolutions supervened in the fields of automation, electrical equipment, and energy remain nevertheless influenced by factors as: digitalisation, growth of the Internet of Things, or the emergence of new markets. The IEAS event evolved in strong connection with these industry trends. Beyond any shadow of doubt, our transformation towards a complete business experience constituted a natural step and a response to the requests of our long-term customers and partners. The new business platform proposed by IEAS revolves around four axes: connectivity, government-educationbusiness partnership, integrated networking, and brand management. The products and technologies which are traditionally perceived as the heart of every exhibition are now accompanied by business networking events and high-level matchmaking sessions. A landmark event of the 2017 edition of IEAS is represented by the National Energy Fair, organized by AFEER/AESR. Our collaboration with one of the most important professional association in the energy area has materialized also in an innovative conference concept, approaching topics such as: energy market trends, greening of energy ecosystems or the development of sustainable energy infrastructures.
The new business platform proposed by IEAS revolves around four axes: connectivity, government-educationbusiness partnership, integrated networking, and brand management."
Furthermore, IEAS 2017 offers educational competitions such as the Student Technical Innovation Awards. The 2017 edition of the International Electric & Automation Show is placed under the label of innovation, enjoying the patronage of prestigious professional structures and academic institutions. We strive to build a better and stronger Romanian business community, acting as a valuable partner in the dialogue with the professional and governmental sector and contributing to a better economic environment and a better society. We remain faithful to our motto “Industry and Energy in motion” and we hope to contribute to the promotion of innovation in higher education, as an essential tool in creating a sustainable future.

WHERE ROMANIA TALKS BUSINESS
INNOVATION FUELS DEMAND FOR AUTOMATION IN ROMANIA
2.
Industry trends on the local market and abroad Demand for industrial automation equipment is set to grow at a global level this year, according to analysis by IHS Markit.
Ovidiu POSIRCA Senior Editor Business Review
With the industrial automation sector set to create trillions of dollars’ worth of value for the global economy in the next decade, companies in Romania are becoming more open to digital solutions that will help them build the products and services of the future. This is why the 13th edition of the International Electric & Automation Show (IEAS), taking place this September, brings together suppliers of technical solutions, companies looking for innovative solution, policymakers and experts to get in touch with the latest developments in the field. Various stakeholders will talk about how the Romanian economy can pursue a sustainable strategy on automation and energy and the main benefits for the country in the years to come. Businesses that are looking to make their operations more efficient and better suited to the digital economy will be able to find out more about the latest developments in the field directly from companies in the exhibition areas and special workshops and roundtables. Everything from automation to industrial electronics to industrial lighting solutions and energy production technologies will be covered during the three-day event.
The industrial automation equipment (IAE) market is expected to expand in 2017, reversing two consecutive years of contraction. While growth prospects vary by sector, 2017 growth – projected at 1.5 percent – will take place despite headwinds, mainly in the form of low oil prices, as well as a reduction in sales of heavy machinery, according to experts quoted by plantengineering.com. The automation of industrial processes also supports the expansion of the robots market. According to the International Federation of Robots (IFR), the worldwide supply of industrial robots is set to grow by a yearly average of 13 percent in the 2017 - 2019 period. Forecasts say that the market will have 414,000 robots by 2019. Furthermore, automated production is poised to contribute more than USD 10 trillion to the global economy by 2030, according to Accenture. “Romania has been a conservative market in the past few decades from the point of view of adopted solutions in power distribution and automation applications. However, recent innovations in various fields of automation and new generations of engineering specialists have brought fresh flavors in all industries related to automation and power distribution,” says Catalin Marius Lepinzean, business development manager at Phoenix Contact Romania, the partner company of IEAS 2017. The firm provides a wide array of products and solutions for all aspects of electrical engineering and solutions. Lepinzean explained that the company patented almost a decade ago its Push-In connection technology for DIN rail terminal blocks. “Based on the worldwide success of this special connection technology, every year we have integrated it into more and more product groups from our portfolio, starting with field and heavy duty connectors, relay and interface components, power supplies and up to our high level PLC controllers and communication technology. The extremely fast, easy and errorfree wiring of all our products with built-in Push-In connectivity offers tremendous advantages in terms of time, cost and space savings throughout the entire cabinet design and production processes. We are inviting all automation specialists to our IEAS booth, where they can discover the benefits of Push-In connectivity integrated in all our product groups,” he added.

MARKET TRENDS by
“We are seeing an increase in companies in Romania interested in harness solutions (processed cables), usually with low complexity levels. Also, the number of companies involved in the development of automation processes and the number of used industrial robots have gone up,” said Dan Ionas, Sales and Marketing Manager, Lapp Kabel Romania. She added that in Romania there is growing demand for cables that have received Construction Product Regulation certification. Demand for all industrial automation solutions is coming from various players, including those involved in urban infrastructure, machine building, energy production and automotive.
In Romania, Phoenix Contact has an extensive presence in the individual production areas, providing everything from specialized terminal blocks and connectors, marking solutions, interface and surge protection technology and power supplies to high performance controllers and comprehensive software packages. Elsewhere, Schneider Electric reports that the lighting control trend is gaining ground in office projects. Monica Bucurescu, BMS sales manager at Schneider Electric, says that 70 percent of the energy consumed by an office building is used for lightning and HVAC. “One of the key design principles for flexible offices is to have separate areas split into small modules of 25 to 50 sqm, each with its own electrical supply, its own system to manage lighting and air-conditioning, and its own utility bills. Depending on occupant needs, modules may be combined in units of varying sizes,” explained Bucurescu.
Industry set to demand more energy Schneider Electric says that demand for energy will continue to grow, based on three megatrends: urbanization, digitization and industrialization. In the next 30 years, some 70 million people will move to cities each year. In addition, over the next five years the number of devices connected to the web will grow 20 fold, which in turn will mean more traffic and greater need for storage and energy. Some 50 billion devices will be connected in the next five years through the Internet of Things (IoT), which will also be the main topic of IEAS 2017. The industrial sector currently consumes 30 percent of the total energy output and this figure is set to grow by 50 percent in the next 35 years, according to company estimates. “In recent years, the need for services has been coming from building owners and industrial end-users, who have become aware of energy consumption,” said Bucurescu. Firms are also upgrading their cabling systems in line with the developments in the automation sector.
In the case of Phoenix Contact Romania, the emerging sectors are E-mobility charging infrastructure, cyber security for industry, road and railway infrastructure and building automation. Wood processing, the food industry and wastewater treatment are some of the main business segments for Lapp Kabel Romania, which will also be present at IEAS. “We intend to build a strong dialogue platform, bringing together companies and the governmental and academic area, and for this purpose we will invest all our resources in this partnership for research and sustainable development,” concluded Catalin Neamtu, CEO of DK Expo, IEAS organizer of the upcoming event. At this year’s edition, IEAS will feature interconnected industries: HORECA, residential, oil & gas, and IT&C.

Description
BOX2M is a Romanian start-up, focused on industrial IoT, launched in May 2015 as a R&D program and bootstrapped by co-founders. The main scope of program was to check the feasibility of using IoT technologies (based on proprietary hardware, firmware and software) for replacing up to an extent the SCADA type technologies. We’ve started by talking with customers, identifying their challenges and needs, designing concepts and prototyping systems, testing those with their infrastructures and once validated, we’ve launched the commercial entity and signed the first contracts. We made an ecosystem composed by 2 main components: a hardware subsystem, able to gather, process and transmit the data from the industrial infrastructure, generically called industrial IoT device; a software platform, able to aggregate, post-process, report, notify, alert and acting as an input for business intelligence and artificial intelligence further developed modules, also able to interface with 3PP systems, in diverse ways. Both hardware and software are designed in a modular way. Hardware can interconnect different type of sensors, still focused on industrial metering and monitoring, through multiple protocols and interfaces types; it can also run local analytics rules which facilitate further integration with BOX2M software platform or other 3PP platforms (as IBM Watson, Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services or proprietary customer platforms. The main industries we do target are energy (with all sub-verticals - grid, green, hybrid, back-up power), utilities

LED-POL Company was established in 2006, at first as an economic activity of natural person. After the years and sales network development the company operates in the form of a limited partnership. In just several years a small local enterprise turned into a firm operating across Poland and Central and Eastern European countries. Such a dynamic development was possible only thanks to personal commitment, determination and quick reaction to changing market conditions of all employees of the company. The company is headquartered in Bielsko-Biała, a city friendly to modern technologies and strongly connected with electric and energetic branches through the International Power Industry Fair ENERGETAB, having a good reputation. A pillar of the company is constituted by a network of sales representatives operating in all regions and salesmen supporting them in the headquarter of the company. A modern warehouse is also located in Bielsko-Biała, ensuring continuous deliveries of our products. Since March 2013 Czech customers have been served directly from a division placed in the Czech Republic. Thanks to a long-term experience we can say that we know the needs of our customers about an ecological and economical lighting; it is an incentive to make further, permanent searches for new, innovative technological solutions.

PLCnext Technology – Open to variety, succeed through flexibility, designed by Phoenix Contact The world is changing – and automation is changing too Production processes need to become more flexible and automation solutions need to become more communicative and adaptable to remain competitive on the market in the long term. Industrie 4.0 makes classic communications in automation systems obsolete. That's why Phoenix Contact developed the PLCnext Technology. It lays the foundations for an open controller platform, with a modular software solution that is mature enough to meet all the requirements of the IoT world.
90
IEAS 2017 BUCHAREST
PLCnext Technology is the basis for technologically leading automation: because it's not the strongest who persevere, but those who are able to adapt the best.
PLCnext Technology forms the basis of the new, open control platform from Phoenix Contact. This new technology makes it easy to work in parallel with established software tools – such as Visual Studio, Eclipse, Matlab Simulink, and PC Worx Engineer – as well as creating programming code both in IEC 611313 and C/C++ and C#. Additional functions from third-party manufacturers or the open source community can be added to Phoenix Contact's automation system, merging into one complete system.

STUDENT TECHNICAL INNOVATION AWARDS & EDUCATION CONFERENCE:
Boosting innovation in Romanian Universities
At the 13th edition, the International Electric & Automation Show event launched the Student Technical Innovation Awards. This unique competition aims to bridge the gap between Romanian Universities and the companies in the strategic industries of automation and electrical equipment or in the broader field of energy. Nowadays, the global scene is dominated by trends such as: sustainable development, Smart technologies, and Greening of Industrial Ecosystems. In this context of technological and cultural change, the IEAS business platform intends to promote students and young researchers as key factors in the development of innovation policies. The Student Technical Innovation Awards were developed under the patronage of top Romanian Universities, such as: Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest; Technical University of Cluj-Napoca; Valahia University of Târgoviște, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics of the University Politehnica of Bucharest.
The Pilot edition of the competition included two sections: Start Up and Technic Innovation and was open to undergraduate and postgraduate students or early-career researchers from fields such as: Architecture, Structural and Construction Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Automation, Industrial software & hardware, Robotics, Nano-Technologies, Internet of Things, and Smart City. The messages received on behalf of our Academic partners confirm the critical role played by IEAS’ innovation project: Babeș-Bolyai University considers that IEAS innovation competition represents an opportunity to boost competitiveness in academic research and to encourage innovative approaches in Higher Education. Also, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics of the University Politehnica of Bucharest highlighted the relevance of the IEAS competition, as an authentic benefit for students and early-career academic staff to present and disseminate the results of innovation projects, often too little-known by companies and actors in the industry. Furthermore, the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest emphasized its interested in creating and developing innovative services and products, ready to be transferred and integrated into the socio-economic environment.
The innovation hub hosted by IEAS in 2017 was opened to individual applications and team projects and succeeded in coagulating a high-profile scientific community, also fostering dialogue, collaborations, and knowledge transfer. The IEAS Education Conference is scheduled for 19 September, in Nicolae Bălcescu Hall, simultaneously with the IEAS Exhibition. Partner Universities had announced provocative presentations and workshops revolving around topics such as: university-industry links and the impact on innovation, smart growth and smart technologies, educational relevance of robotic revolution, role of universities in innovation systems, or the academiaindustry technology transfer. Babeș-Bolyai University will deliver an important conference presentation entitled The importance of Human Capital for Innovation Policies, militating for a deeper understanding of innovation as an educational and formative tool. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics will also be the host of an educational workshop, where discussions will focus on the importance of UniversitiesCompanies Partnerships in promoting CDI strategies.

INDUSTRY CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS
New Industrial Ecosystems – Smart Energy and IoT
The IEAS 2017 Automation and Energy Industry Conference represents a complex and multivalent business event that will grant the companies in the energy and automation fields and in the interconnected industries access to the latest information and to local and global trends. By bringing together industry professionals, experts in strategy and development, trainers and policy makers in the governmental and academic areas, the IEAS conference aims to become an essential milestone in the genesis of the strategic development directions of the concerned industries.

IEAS 2017 BUCHAREST
The 2017 edition of the IEAS Business Conference is placed under the label of Smart Energy and covers a various range of topics, including innovation and cutting-edge technologies, best practices and policies for the greening of urban energy ecosystems, Energy efficiency and responsible development, and public-private partnerships for the sustainable development of urban communities.
www.ieas.ro
The IEAS 2017 Automation and Energy Industry Conference is supported by the Smart City Pro Association and EFdeN.
n SMART CITY PRO ASSOCIATION’S MESSAGE
n EFDEN’S MESSAGE
The Energy dimension represents a key factor in a Smart City approach. Smart Energy supply and greening of industrial ecosystems became a continuous challenge in our projects. Our Association tries to build a debate platform based on innovation, integrated and sustainable technologies for power supply and urban mobility.
Two out of three Europeans live in cities and the ratio is increasing. This means that we need better cities, Smart Cities that can only work with educated and informed citizens, cities whose processes and functions are optimized with the help of technology. This is not enough though, and we, humans, need to change our mindset and be more responsible. We believe in smart solar houses and in electric cars as the solution to urban mobility; that is why we are developing several projects such as a solar-powered charging station for electric vehicles or a photovoltaic tree which integrates in the urban environment, producing and facilitating access to renewable energy.
Reshaping the urban environment in a smart frame could reconnect us with nature. It could also represent a first step towards solving a modern dilemma - the rising tension between resource preservation and communities’ progress and development.

IEAS 2018: PERSPECTIVES OF DEVELOPMENT
IEAS 2018: PERSPECTIVES OF DEVELOPMENT. ENERGY AND BEYOND.
6.1.
The automation and electrical equipment industries confronted in the recent years with fundamental reconfigurations and changes, for the most part motivated by factors as digitalization and IoT. Yet, the, the ascent of inter-connectivity and the dissolution of classical boundaries amid industries and economy fields were doubled by a subsidiary process. This essential development trend was followed by rediscovery of the crucial problematic of energy. Previous discussion upon geopolitics, geo-economics or geo-strategy were replaced by new approaches, emphasizing themes as energy diplomacy, energy strategy, energy economics or energy governance. In this context, energy became a key quantifier of our contemporary technology – development scale.
IEAS Business platform was directly influenced by this change of paradigm and included energy industry as a new focal point of its strategy. With the 2017 edition, the IEAS exhibition and associated events included the participation of influential actors as power suppliers, renewable energy companies and professional association from energy field. We supported important events as National Energy Fair AFEER and we were honored by the patronage of governmental and professional structures. Our 2018 agenda is influenced by energy topic and objectives as: regional expansion and entrance of new exhibitors, from European landscape and Asian zone, the development of the business event component, trough high profile reunions and conferences and, not at least, the continuation of the Academia – companies partnerships, within the frame of innovation. IEAS Business Platform future projects remain connected to our founding landmarks and include the edification of a solid business community, acting as promoter for innovation, sustainable development and progress. We thank you for being our partners for IEAS 2017 edition!
