n 2014, Antonye (Tone) Hart and Carlesha Wilder decided they wanted to change the world for the better, so they founded an organization and called it Thee Next Generation (TNG). Hart is adamant that the group is “to empower people to be the best person they can be.” “It’s a positive group,” added Wilder, “we promote positivity, and want to show the next generation that there is a lot more to this life than what they see.” Determined to make changes around the local communities and reaching out around the world, Thee Next Generation has several different departments branching out to reach people where they find their heart’s interests, some which include music, administration, event planning, dance and media.

“We do everything with no vulgar language,” said Hart, “we want to impact this generation and guide them in the right ways, which is almost a dying breed.” At a grassroots level, the organization is run mostly out of their homes, but Hart says God has given him a vision for TNG to go far beyond even his own plans. “I’m wanting an organization that will help build careers, teach about financial responsibility and dealing with income considerations,” he said. Over and over he stated, “We’re a no judgment zone, we just want to help people become the best person they can possibly be.” Wilder added, “We want to show that there’s more to life than gang-banging and party crews. We want to be that positive difference in people’s life.” Wanting to bring that positivity into the local neighborhood TNG, cont. on next pg.

The infrastr ucture crisis lurking in the shadows

California, like many states, faces an infrastructure crisis, but not just the one affecting the roads we drive on, water systems we rely on, and the electricity that powers our everyday lives. As critical as it is for state and federal policy makers to focus on the resiliency of the state’s infrastructure, we also need to focus on a critical element that often is overlooked: the people who know how to build, maintain and operate the infrastructure we use every day. As the American Society of Civil Engineers noted in its most recent Infrastructure Report Card — in which the U.S. received a D+ — the country currently faces a $2 trillion infrastructure investment gap. Here in California, the situation is only slightly better. In its recent report card on the state of California’s infrastructure, the group gave the state a “C-,� or below average grade, noting that much of California’s infrastructure needs significant attention and investment to reverse decades of underinvestment. The issues cited by the engineering group are ones most may be familiar with, including major challenges to the waste and drinking water services Californians depend on every day. California’s ports need billions in new investments to withstand the expected rise in sea levels and earthquakes. In many places, the group said, the complex system of pipes, pumps and filtration plants that provide drinking water to the state’s citizens “are nearing the end of their useful life.� These challenges are significant and it is beneficial to highlight them to the general public. But voters and their representatives should not ignore the fact that not enough attention is being paid to the millions of people we will need to make these systems better, ensure our levees are secure, and that the roads and bridges remain in good conditions. The U.S. is already facing a significant level of unfilled jobs: there were more than 7.1 million positions left open through February, including 1.6 million in the West region that includes California, per the Labor Department. This includes hundreds of thousands of construction, utility and municipal jobs that remain unfilled. And as researchers have noted, the U.S. will need to replace more than 2.7 million infrastructure workers in the next few years to keep pace with demand.

A number of factors are contributing to the problem. For decades, our educational institutions have focused their efforts on baccalaureate programs instead of technical certificates. This infatuation with “higher� education has sullied the once proud notion of learning a trade or embarking on a career in a nondegreed profession. The irony is that now is an ideal time for highly-skilled young infrastructure workers to enter the workforce. As large number of infrastructure workers get nearer to retirement, there is a growing need to pass on a generation’s worth of institutional knowledge to new workers. Demand for workers who can take on this role now for the future will only be on the rise. So what can be done? First, we all need to recognize the critical role infrastructure – and the employees who make it work – play in keeping our country and economy running efficiently. From engineers to scientists, technicians and construction workers and wastewater operators, a significant number of Americans toil every day to make our infrastructure systems work. Second, we need to ensure that we are actively encouraging the next generation to enter the infrastructure workforce. As research has shown, infrastructure jobs tend to offer more equitable or above-average wages, with long tenures and lower barriers to entry than many other careers. Finally, the private sector needs to do more to attract and train a new generation of workers. Whether it’s partnerships, scholarships, grants, or handson cooperative educational opportunities, the goal needs to be showcasing these opportunities as viable pathways for the future. We also need to emphasize that infrastructure workers are stewards of the environment; if there is one thing that universally motivates younger workers, it is the notion that they are inheriting a challenging environmental. The good news is that there are at least some signs that Washington is listening. The recent pledge by the White House and Congress to pursue a $2 trillion infrastructure package is a welcome development, though follow through and execution will obviously be critical to the passage of a measure that will actually address our U.S. infrastructure challenges. If we really want to revitalize manufacturing and compete in the 21st century economy, we must reinforce the bone on which to rebuild that muscle. That means not forgetting the workers, because why invest in a best-in-class water treatment system or electrical grid if there’s no one who can run it?

A litany of state laws aimed to alter the 2nd Amendment have descended trespassing other amendments as well, permitting “police-led searches� of our social media, thus effectively “abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press� constitutionally protected in the First Amendment. Disagreeable speech is labeled “hate speech.� Presently at least 179 counties in the country and three states, Alaska, Idaho and Kansas, have declared Second Amendment sanctuary status as a result. The movement for sanctuary status includes any federal or state law that threatens the Second Amendment as written by the Founding Fathers. In New Mexico that includes requirements for firearm storage and background checks for private firearm sales. In New York, it includes banning bump stock devices. In Washington State it is I-1639, which “classifies semi-automatic rifles commonly owned for recreation and self-defense as assault weapons and prohibits young adults under the age of 21 from purchasing them.� These violate principally the Second Amendment “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.� But the issue that has lit the sanctuary revolution most recently is “red flag� laws as they violate other amendments as well. These potentially allow thousands of innocent citizens to be punished only upon the fear that a crime might be committed. Secret lists of innocent people are created by family, acquaintances, and potentially disgruntled ex-lovers or spouses. Any one that can approach a judge with the claim that someone is a danger to himself

and/or others, the sheriff is sent to disarm and confiscate his weapons. Those identified are punished without having committed a crime. All this without a shred of evidence of unlawful behavior. As reported, state “red flag� laws are driving sheriffs and county commissioners to seek Second Amendment sanctuary county status to defend their people from them and to uphold the Constitution they have sworn by oath to protect. In no state is that more evident presently than in Colorado where 60% of the counties have declared sanctuary status which basically means “the law is null and void in this county.� Officers either have to refuse to follow orders or defend the Constitution. When county commissioners declare sanctuary status, sheriffs do not have to stand alone. Standing alone is still constitutional as sheriffs are the only elected law enforcement agents in the United States and each must swear an oath of allegiance to the U.S. Constitution to hold that trusted office. Constitutionally they can only be removed by the people in their districts as they specifically represent only them— not public opinion outside their district, the state or the federal government. They understand that a law from either Congress or state legislatures cannot undo an amendment to the Constitution— only another amendment and that requires the support of 3/4ths of the states, none of which has happened for any “red flag� law in any state. As such they should be null and void at passage. “Red flag,� laws, distinguished from other anti-gun laws, are based entirely upon the assump-

We might also wish to remove their automobiles, knives, hammers, or medicines they MIGHT use to harm themselves or others. Heretofore “probable causeâ€? was based upon evidence, not opinion. Again, there exists no crime! Amendment V reads in part: “No person shall be‌deprived of‌property, without due process of law.â€? Due process is denied thousands under “red flagâ€? laws. None were charged with a crime, arrested or convicted before gun confiscation. Amendment VI. None were “informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defence.â€? None of these four required conditions, prior to confiscation, were met as no crime had been committed. The targeted had no opportunity to resist confiscation. Finally, Amendment XIV. “No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.â€? “Red flagâ€? laws totally deny “due process.â€? Thus “red flagâ€? laws violate the following constitutional amendments: I, II, IV, V, VI and XI— half of the Bill of Rights. No wonder sheriffs and counties are bailing. How serious is this threat to the Constitution as written? Presently 15 states have them in place and 13 more are processing them, potentially 28—more than half of the union. istory has accurately recorded the survival and development of our ancestors. Whether you endorse the evolutionary theory or creation theory, the existence of humankind is amazing. Dr. Richard Calling, Ph.D. is a renowned scientist. In his book, Random Designer, he describes vividly the uniqueness of the male sperm that is so designed to out survive hundreds of other sperm to fertilize the egg. All religions depict the survival instinct of mankind. The Hebrew Bible is basic for Christianity and Islam. All three picture human survival from Adam and Eve. Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, Ester, Ruth, David, Daniel.

To be sure, Bart Starr was not cut out to be a great football player. A mere 6 feet 1 inch, he was drafted 200th by Vince Lombardi. Lombardi gave Starr a shot and he fulfilled every expectation. He led Green Bay to championships in 1961, 1962, 1965, 1966 and 1967. He was best known for his motivational skills. I’ll never forget watching the 1966 game. It was known as the “Ice Bowl” against Dallas. The temperature was 36 below in Green Bay and Starr was behind 17-14 and they were 70 yards from the goal line. Sixteen seconds to play and two plays fell short. Starr plunged over the goal in time for a touchdown. What a game, what a player, what a man. Bart Starr, to his dying day, lived a life that fulfilled every human potential possible, (1934-2019.) Then there was Bill Buckner. He was a great baseball player. But he will be remembered for one fateful play in game 6 of the 1986

World Series. He played for the Boston Red Sox against the Mets, when he fumbled a grounder-between his legs- and the Mets won the World Series.

He received death threats in spite of his greatness as a player. He moved his family to Idaho to escape. In 2007 after the Red Sox won the World Series he was named by the Sox. (1949-2019.) Henry Ward Beecher said, “God asks no one if they will accept life. That is not their choice. Man’s only choice is what will they do with the time they have on earth.” I have a list of scores of names of people that persevered to live a great life in spite of difficult times. At the least of this list is Pete Buttigieg. His full name is Peter Paul Montgomery Buttigieg- pronounced Boot-edge-edge. He was born on January 19, 1982 in South Bend, Indiana. Currently he is the youngest (37) mayor of a city over a 100,000 population. A graduate of Harvard University, he served as a Naval Intelligence Officer in Afghanistan. Psychology is my avocation, second only to the Biblical studies. My mentor in psychology are Viktor Frankl and William James. Frankl was born in 1905 and died in 1997. In the 80’s he lectured for several months in the United states. When I was at Claremont Graduate School and Long Beach University where I took several of his classes. He was an inspiration to me. He was with his wife, his parent and a brother by Hitler and sent to Auschwitz. He alone survived. A Jew, he was a native of Vienna, Austria, along with Sigmund Freud. Frankl was beaten several times and received 31 plus wounds. He contemplated suicide but he credited Kopfring Benchers with saving his life, “He implored me to get over my pessimism.” He spent three years in the death camps. Until his death he experienced nightmares about his tortures.

A few years after the war he married again and they had a daughter. He used his abilities to the fullest. In 1947 he became the Executive Director of the Viennese Neurological Health Center; he received 29 honorary doctorates; wrote 30 books; he lectured at 209 universities all over the world and served on the Harvard University Staff. I’ll never forget the following statement he gave in a lecture. He said, “I realized that a person is most likely to survive an ordeal if he finds a reason to live.” This was the motivation for his bestselling book, “Man’s Search for Meaning.” It has been translated into more than 24 languages and reprinted into over 73 times. Over 25 million copies have been printed. Viktor Frankl, Ph.D., M.D. survived the death camps, suffered the grief and suffering of losing his family and achieved unbelievable acclaim throughout his life and it continues. The three greatest heroes in my mind were; Helen Keller, John McCain and Viktor Frankl. Amen. Selah. So be it.

niversal Technical Institute-Rancho Cucamonga is now accepting applications for Ignite – a free summer program for high school juniors interested in exploring high-tech, high-demand careers as auto, diesel and motorcycle technicians. Participating students receive intensive, hands-on training and the opportunity to earn credits toward a UTI program. Ignite will be offered at UTI-Rancho Cucamonga and each of UTI’s campuses nationwide. “We’re seeing strong continuing demand across the transportation industry for qualified, well-trained automotive and diesel technicians. These are highly-technical and rewarding jobs with great earning potential, upward mobility and stability – and employers can’t fill them fast enough,” said Migdalia Vazquez-Valle, campus president of UTI-Rancho Cucamonga. “Our Ignite program is a free, fun way for young people to learn about the opportunities that exist in the transportation industry and skilled trades. We look forward to offering this unique and important training at our campus again this

iddle College High School scholars are full-time students who engage in honors-level coursework on the MCHS campus, while taking transferable college classes at SBVC every semester. Upon graduation, these students earned not only a high school diploma, but also college credit, giving them a head-start to success. Dozens of hard-working students were first honored during the Senior Crossing on May 17, where

several outstanding students received awards and scholarships. The MCHS Graduation Ceremony was held on May 22, and celebrated the achievements of the graduating class of 2019.
