Relimachine Learning and High Criticality for Autonomy in the Aerospace Domain Dr. Giacomo Gentile, Collins Aerospace Location: On Line Event Dr. Giacomo Gentile, from Collins Aerospace, will talk about machine learning and high criticality for autonomy in the aerospace domain.

he became a safety engineer at ALSTHOM, where he studied rail station equipment. The main focus of his job was to bring the software to the highest certification level (i.e., SIL4) for Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and INTERLOCKING applications (railway traffic control in stations). After working in the rail transportation industry, he moved to automotive by joining Magneti Marelli. While working there, he introduced processes like Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), Software Process Improvement and Capability Determination(SPICE), and ISO26262 certification, adopting requirement engineering as a development paradigm. Currently, Dr. Gentile is a Sr. Manager at Collins Applied Research & Technologies Center (part of the Raytheon Technologies group) and his research focuses on the safe deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in aerospace systems. Dr. Gentile will illustrate the current and future work of the working group “EUROCAE-WG-114 / SAE-G34”, whose objective is to deliver a standard for the development and certification/ approval of aeronautical safety-related products implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI). The scope of this work encompasses ground-based equipment and airborne vehicles, including Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) products. The standard delivered by this group will provide practices for showing compliance with regulations, and it will help companies develop and meet their internal standards. The impact that this work will have on everyone’s life is enormous. For instance, pilotless aircraft could soon become a reality that people Location: On Line Event can trust the same way they trust traditional airplanes today.
