IEEE Computer Society to Hold Training Workshops in Embedded Systems, Parallel Processing, and Project Management LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 18 September 2012 – The IEEE Computer Society will hold in-depth professional development training workshops in embedded systems, software project management, and parallel processing to help computing professionals remain current with their skills. Substantial early-bird discounts will be offered to those who register by 21 September. Group discounts and IEEE Computer Society discounts are also available. The workshops will be held at the IEEE Computer Society learning annex in Los Alamitos, California, near major Los Angeles-area freeways and a short drive from Los Angeles International Airport and John Wayne Airport."These workshops, taught by leading industry experts, are designed to provide software developers with a practical education that goes directly to work," said John Keppler, IEEE Computer Society manager of certification and professional education programs. The three-day Parallel Processing Multicore Software Strategies course will be held 2-4 October. Beginning with an introduction to dual-core IA programming, the course will cover compiler switches, Math Kernel Library (MKL), thread checkers, profilers, Windows, Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX), Open MP, virtualization, and multicore software architecture and debugging. Migration case studies, threaded programming methodologies, and scalability of threaded applications will also be discussed. To register, visit http://www.computer.org/portal/web/certification/PPMC. The one-day Embedded Systems Methods and Technologies, scheduled for 5 October, will provide an overview of basic principles of writing software for embedded systems, in particular real-time operating systems. The course will also discuss design considerations and the embedded systems development cycle. To register, go to http://www.computer.org/portal/web/certification/Embedded-Systems. The three-day Project Management for Software Professionals, set for 5-7 November, will teach concepts and techniques necessary to manage projects successfully. Closely following the Project Management Institute's Project Management Body of Knowledge, the workshop will demonstrate how to apply best practices to a typical small-to-medium sized software project. This learning experience involves extensive hands-on practice with real-world case studies. To register, visit http://www.computer.org/portal/web/certification/Software-ProjectManagement. The Embedded Systems Methods and Technologies and Parallel Processing Multicore Software Strategies workshops will be taught by Rob Oshana, a graduate software engineering adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University and director of Global Software R&D for Networking and Multimedia at Freescale Semiconductor. The Project Management for Software Professionals workshop will be taught by Dave Whitmoyer, a Senior Fellow at Construx Software.
