Pieter Botman Wins Meritorious Service Award LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 27 June, 2012 – Pieter Botman has been awarded an IEEE Computer Society Meritorious Service Award for his work chairing a Member and Geographic Activities' (MGA) committee. Botman is former chair of the Geographic Unit Operations Committee (GUOC), which coordinates and supports the operations, growth, and development of more than 400 IEEE Computer Society chapters around the world. Botman is an independent consultant based in Vancouver, Canada, who has 25 years of experience in software engineering, systems integration, and quality assurance. He was previous a member of the IEEE Computer Society's Professional Activities Board and served as a reviewer for software engineering standards. He was also vice chair of the MGA between 2010 and 2011. "Pieter has been a visionary leader in bringing our global chapters communities together," said Violet Doan, IEEE Computer Society membership director. "He led the development of a robust onboarding and training program that can be tailored to any region in the world, and passionately led the creation of a platform that will enable collaboration, tools development, and information sharing across the growing network of chapters for many years to come." During his career, Pieter has delivered complex system solutions in various domains including aviation, banking, telecommunications, and image processing, and has worked with organizations such as Bell Canada, Digital Equipment, AT&T and MacDonald Dettwiler & Associates. In his current consulting practice, Pieter assists software engineering organizations with focused process assessment and process improvement activities which are tailored to their specific business needs. Botman, a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of British Columbia, contributes to the development of software engineering standards within the IEEE Computer Society and ISO/IEC JTC1 SC7. He serves on several software engineering committees and task forces at the provincial and national levels.
