The idea that cutting-edge design can only come from architects who remain untouched by the constraints of business or finance is now obsolete. In fact, contemporary practice has shown that although excellence of design is necessary for success, it is by no means the only requirement. Business acumen and management know-how now play a key role in the success of an architectural practice. The Master in Architectural Management and Design bridges the gap between advanced design and the management skills that are essential to succeed in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry today. This multifaceted program is designed to cover the specific needs of professionals who already have a sound working knowledge of theoretical and applied principles, and now wish to acquire and apply business expertise in the field of AEC. Today, many professionals in architecture, design and in other creative fields are inhibited from progressing and expanding their influence due to their inability to effectively use business tools and vocabulary. Furthermore, students can expect to develop their interpersonal skills through hands-on practice and extensive teamwork.

How we undertake all our daily activities is, literally, being transformed by technology. How and where we work, how and where we shop and how and where we learn have been impacted by the digital revolution. These changes, in turn, lead to new patterns of behavior, new ways of communicating, new ways of collaborating and new ways of approaching daily tasks. But the revolution doesn´t stop there. All of this has an effect on physical space. This multifaceted degree looks beyond the traditional boundaries of design-oriented programs and delves deeply into the new sociological and technological shifts that are transforming the way we define and design innovative spaces. The program is aimed at those who are looking to strategically develop peoplecentered, flexible and sustainable environments for today and tomorrow. Thanks to the combination of the Design Studio methodology, where students collaboratively tackle real world projects, with courses in technology and sociology, students will be able to see and understand the relationship spaces—physical and virtual—of people and technology.
This program focuses on work, retail and learning environments, the three main types of spaces where change is occurring and that have the greatest potential for innovation. However, the strategies employed transcend these typologies and can be applied to almost any type of space. Students will have first-hand experience and the chance to network with professionals in the field by visiting top studios and attending the IE Architecture and Design special lecture series. This program is taught in a blended format, which means there are face-to-face periods in Madrid and London, as well as an interactive online period. This format is ideal for professionals that want to combine their work with study to enhance their knowledge and skills.

THE FABLAB
20 / 21
The Fab Lab is a fundamental part of what we call the culture of making. It is a place where students can experiment with digital and traditional woodworking tools. Throughout their studies, students will have the opportunity to experiment with di erent materials in order to understand how they t together.
For design students, it is essential to know how to bring an idea to life. Their proposals are tested through the creation of prototypes to ensure that they have work as intended. There are two parts to the Fabrication Lab: one uses digital tools (CNC router, laser cutters, 3D printers) and the other which uses more traditional carpentry and shop tools, allowing students to make their ideas tangible.
IE School of Architecture and Design
Students will participate in workshops where they will acquire a wide variety of technical abilities and learn how to use di erent machines and tools safely. Our sta will be available throughout the process, advising students as they develop their projects and guiding them through challenges.
