IDEA. The idea for the housing block structure was influenced by a park near the territory. The building principle in the old town should be a perimeter structure, but in this case a visual connection with the park would be lost. So in order to comply with these conditions, the flat volumes were lifted above the ground and only common use rooms were left on the ground floor. In this manner the visual connection between the
IDEA. Different and floating spaces for diverse music performances. A new building in the city’s old town is proposed. The building is based on existing visual axes and physical connections with a respect to the oldtown’s spatial structure. Inside the building, spaces with diverse characters are created, offering a clear segregation of visitors’, musicians’ and staff movement paths. inhabitants and the park was maintained and at the same time a physical barrier was created between the inhabitants and passers-by. The strength of this project is a combination of the private space for inhabitants (private terraces and common yard) and the visual openness to the surroundings.
with an underground connection to the square scene are offered. The building itself and the spaces inside express constant movement and change. The additional functions such as exhibition hall, teaching classes, restaurants enrich the usability of the building during times when no concerts are taking place. A new attraction space for the citizens is provided in order to evoke the old town’s revival .
connection is basic //2010 FINAL MASTER THESIS Redevelopment of the territories of Paupys and Paplauja in Vilnius The final thesis examines the historic suburb of Paupys and Paplauja in Vilnius’ urban spatial structure and the associated urban development problems. The qualitative, functional system development of urbanized cores’ in the central part of Vilnius is examined. A survey of historical urban development is made. Existing valuable elements of spatial structure are identified. Areas of reconstruction are located and the possibilities of further development are analyzed. The visual impact of the potential development to the identity of the central part of Vilnius is evaluated. According to the analysis of the territory’s image as a potential host, strategic alternatives of urban spatial structure development in the territory are proposed. A review of the problems and opportunities of conversion of industrial sites
revealed the concept of the urban development of territory and multi-center. Two separate urban structures were connected through a speedway thus creating a dense urban node. Also they were connected with surrounding structures by creating a system of paths and bridges combined in the green and public spaces system. Further work was made based on the compositional quality of urban spaces and the details of the multi-center. The thesis consists of 90 p. text without appendixes, 55 pictures, 1 table, 30 bibliographical entries and a graphic part.

actions, concerts, performances and other events could take place. The square has a simplified image which represents fights for freedom. The materials of the square are iron (a solid, unforgettable matterial, an allusion to weapons) and black stones for the square pavement. These materials were chosen in order to express a solid mood of the square. The symbol of Gediminas Pillar at night enlightens the square and the perimeter of trees nearby.

The quarter was designed with a respect to it’s surroundings and a neighbourhood of a park. The ground floor will be used for parking and commercial purposes. The other three floors will be for residence.

business whirl //2008 BUSINESS TRIANGLE Competition of area redevelopment in Vilnius 1st place The “Space of Flows” defines the cultural abstraction of space and time and it’s dynamic interaction with the society in the digital age. Manuel Castells developed this concept in order to name the new possibilities of the space arrangement. This is a typical model of spatial logics in a modern city which reflects dynamic processes of the development and the innovations that are accelerated by the flows of information, capital and ideas. Following this idea a business center full of life was created. It will
offer a place not only for offices, hotel, restaurants, conference rooms, but also for a shopping centre, new city square and a quay. These functions would provide leisure zone for visitors in the square during the evenings when office center is closed. One of the most intriguing focus point of the new landmark is the sculpture “Whirl” placed in the square. It is a reminiscent of glass sand clock which represents an intense city life and time flow.

meeting @crossroad LIBRARY PROPOSAL FOR BAUSKA IDEA. This winning proposal for the library was dictated by low-rise surrounding buildings and wish to save valuable heritage on the site – old trees and historical building. In order to harmonically integrate into the environment, it was decided to divide the building into a few small volumes instead of a single large building. We proposed a building which would provide a flexible and interactive space for people not only to read
books, but participate, learn and get involved. The functional program of the library was decomposed by different groups of target users. Each functional group got a volume. These small elements were connected by an irregular, adjusting to the trees volume – common space. The library building volumes form semi-closed yards. Each of them has different function: entrance yard, calm yard, yard for children and car parking.

art courtyard SCHOOL EXTENSION
//2012
A proposal for a school in Antwerp is done by creating an environment where the students and the school itself can develop, where students are challenged, inspired and which they can be proud of. By demolishing not valuable existing building a new building is created. Two courtyards for a school are proposed in order to ensure liveliness and activity. The large courtyard is the heart of the building and plays an active role in the daily life of the school, it is a meeting, a theater, a place for ceremonies and festivals, a market or just a great emptiness. The small courtyard is the opposite of the large courtyard, it is a place of rest. A tree provides shelter and shade in summer. The new building seeks in subtle ways a contrast with the original building. The visual connection to the park is kept lifting a south wing of the new building.

social and small SOCIAL HOUSING A social housing area in Netherlands is proposed in order to create a sustainable, cheap and highly efficient new typology of houses. The prototype of a house is a traditional farm. The houses are arranged so that the characteristic openness between the church and the countryside is preserved. The main characteristic of the masterplan are six distinct public spaces: the Promenade, the
//2012 Boulevard, the churchyard and Chapel Court, the Playground and the Schoolyard. These public spaces are all different in character, have different materials and plants. The proposed public squares and green spaces enhance the quality of the environment, the value of the area and the involvement of residents.

pattern of activities SCHOOL EXTENSION A strategy for extension of existing art school is done by activating surrounding landscape. The proposal is to divide the site into three zones: forest, stripe and heather. These zones represent different activities and usage for school pupils. The “Forest” zone is the first area which is experienced by the visitor and is formed as a tree buffer zone from the village. The “stripe” zone is formed for intense usage by concentrating main activities there. It connects existing buildings into one structure called art rooms. The “Heather” zone is a calm
//2013 zone for observing the landscape and quiet activities. Additional dormitories buildings (“anchors”)are provided in all the landscape to activate it and force visitors to use all area of the school. The goal of the project is to increase the possibility to experience a modern architecture.

The central room is devoted for celebrating the sun and is paved with light reflecting stones.

bright world end //2011 SCANORAMA FILM FESTIVAL Scenography and lamp project for the opening ceremony European Film Forum Scanorama is a festival that takes place every year in November in three biggest towns of Lithuania (Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda), comprised some of the most distinctive cultural events of the autumn in Lithuania. The opening film was “Melancholia” by Lars von Trier. The main theme was that of a giant planet approaching the Earth, and in the end colliding with it. This idea was the inspiration for the scenography of the opening ceremony. A mystical atmosphere was created with a help of dramatic lightning and monochrome colors. The shape of the lamps and the mystical lighting was an allusion to a planetary collision. All the lamps were made by the author.
