Welcome to our new issue, as usual full of temptation on all pages. Whether you’re planning a whole new winter wardrobe or just want to top up with some great accessories, we’re here to help. We feature some of the moment’s top trends, plus some ambitious street fashion and, wait for it, we’re channelling the return of the Teddy Boy vibe. It may look unfamiliar but don’t dismiss the trend; it’s an easy one to adapt to your own style. By contrast we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the uber glamorous film of Truman Capote’s celebrated novel. Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly is a fashion icon whose style is as relevant now as in 1961. You could go to a party today in one of her little black dresses, accessorised with ropes of pearls, kitten heels, long black gloves and a beehive hairdo.

STAR QUALITY Fifty years after the opening of the iconic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Audrey Hepburn and her Tiffany’s style continues to charm and inspire

f there could be a patron saint of fashion, the ultimate gamine Audrey Hepburn would fit the bill. Her gift to womankind, with a bow to Coco Chanel, was the simple black dress that looked perfect both at a cocktail party or just hanging out outside Tiffany’s. Remember the scene? Audrey’s character, Holly Golightly, sweeps out of a yellow cab in New York’s Fifth Avenue, casually holding a croissant and coffee, dressed in a full length backless dress, accessorised with a little rhinestone tiara and elbow length satin gloves. Or the one where guests arrive for a party and she welcomes them in a Grecian style toga fashioned from a bed-sheet, before changing into an impeccable little black number. Created as always by Hepburn’s style guru, the brilliant Hubert de Givenchy. Remember the loops of pearls, the 2 foot long cigarette holder, the beehive updo, the enormous black sunglasses? By adding a feathered hem here or a broad brimmed hat there, Holly changes the look of the LBD and makes style on a budget seem easy.>

Feature READ IT,SEE IT THE BOOK Breakfast at Tiffany’s The Official Companion has been published by Pavilion Books to celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary. It’s compiled by Sarah Gristwood who says: “The iconic images in Breakfast at Tiffany’s are as engaging today as they were fifty years ago. Audrey’s little black dresses by Givenchy, her long cigarette holder and bejewelled behive are as timelessly influential as the film itself.”
Breakfast at Tiffany’s changed the way women looked at fashion, accessories and jewellery and the influence remains fresh today. The film is an elegant classic with great humour and sizzling romance. Audrey Hepburn took on a role in which the character could have been annoying and neurotic but she made Holly into someone everyone would like to be. A true beauty and a great actress of her time and ours. Fashion designer Mary Quant said it all: “Audrey Hepburn was the most stylish woman who ever lived.”

Look before you cLick Still nervous about shopping online? Follow our guide to the websites and apps that help make internet shopping a fear-free zone. By Emma Wills
T
he instant benefits of online shopping, having a wealth of inspiration to refer to and a huge range of designers at your fingertips, often makes the web a first stop for modern fashionistas. Yet online shopping can sometimes be daunting. Recently, a range of applications and websites have cropped up specifically designed for ease of web navigation, plus various sites offering consumer discounts on particular products. These networking sites and technological developments in the form of nifty applications have now made sourcing, purchasing and deciding what to wear easier than ever before. Fashionlista, a fashion social networking site was launched in 2010 to help online shopping enthusiasts share their greatest fashion finds with other members, or 'fashionlistas’. The concept is simple. Create an account and download the 'Love' button as a browser bookmark, allowing a user to start 'loving' various garments and accessories found across the web. Once an item has been 'loved', other users will be able to see and give the garment more love. Items which have gained the most love will be displayed as 'trending' items on the Fashionlista website. Users can also follow
Fashionlistas whose style they admire. Polyvore, a similar fashion sharing site has gone one step further in the bid to create the ultimate social shopping experience. Users mix and match products with Polyvore's virtual styling tool, to create ‘sets’ which can then be shared via other social platforms such as Twitter, Facebook or Blogger. Inspiring 'set' makers gain more followers, using inspirational pictures as a backdrop for the products. The resulting collages made by savvy Polyvore users look like they could feature in a glossy magazine. In short, it completely takes the hassle out of online shopping. Find a look you like, enlarge the collage and click the items to be taken to the webstore. Another major benefit of using a platform such a Polyvore to source an outfit is the ability to price compare. Typing 'yellow shorts' into the search box produces a wide selection of suitable garments, which can be further filtered into price categories adapting to any budget. Due to the growing popularity of websites such as Polyvore, consumers can be in complete control of their purchases more than ever before. Away from the pressures of traditional shop environments and the presence of pushy sales people, online shoppers can decide in their own time > ifashionmagazine.com 31

The quirky fashionista’s best kept secret, specialises in indie designers that simply can’t be found anywhere else. The Lower East Side store was opened in 2006 by Magda Pietrobelli and Gaelle Drevet, who were inspired by the edgy and unique fashion found at the likes of London’s Portobello Market. A website soon followed, enabling a wide mix of underground brands to be sold to an international market. From New Zealand label Stolen Girlfriend’s club, to Swedish designer Carin Wester, the Pixie Market aesthetic is cool, contemporary and edgy. Every item sold has been picked carefully for its rare and distinct appeal, taking Pixie Market far away from the realms of a homogenized high street store. A great platform for both up and coming designers and die hard fashion fans, Pixie
Market endeavours to continually update the product selection. Often, items will sell out in a matter of days, so if you see something you love don’t hesitate to buy. The website is also a great source of inspiration; showcasing nifty styling efforts and slicker than your average models. Current webstore highlights include; a leopard collar shirt, studded pink collar, red batwing blouse by acclaimed Australian label Mink Pink and our personal favourite, Senso glitter boots. As owner Gaelle notes: “Whether it’s girly or edgy, Pixie Market tries to give the fashion girl on a budget something to get excited about.” We’re certainly excited by this online treasure trove. ifashionmagazine.com 51

lare Moore, who also owns Blue Lawn boutiques in Chelmsford, Essex and Dedham on the Essex/ Suffolk border, has a highly tuned instinct for what her customers want to wear now, and we reckon her easy little day dresses, cashmere sweaters and luxury boots will just march out of the shops. She is targeting a youngish but grown up woman who wants to look trendy and stylish but not as if she’s tried too hard. No gimmicks but well-made clothes in gorgeous fabrics that fit and flatter. Clare is drawn towards French and Italian designers and has tried hard to choose labels that are not available elsewhere in the High Street. Her designer darlings include Vanessa Bruno (and her diffusion line Athe), European Culture,Twenty/8Twelve from Sienna Miller, Future Classics, Paige jeans and Chinti and Parker (for great cashmere). But her best seller at the moment is the very British and very fabulous Vivienne Westwood. There is a highly desirable selection of of her Red Label line…brilliantly tailored jackets and coats plus dresses and separates that are distinctive but also easy to wear. Blue Lawn’s jewellery range is particularly important for the dressing-up season with a brilliant choice of silver necklaces, engraved bangles etc. from Jade Jagger, Juliana Cassandro and Danielle Draper. You could solve all your Christmas present problems here in one go! It’s a great season for boots and
there’s a good range of ankle boots in suede and leather, adding the finishing touch to the chic little jersey dresses which will see you through the winter. Just in, as we go to press, are the fabulous range of boots from the Italian designers fiorentini + baker. Whether you’re looking for a completely new wardrobe or a single item, Clare or one of her colleagues will help you find your fashion identity in a friendly, non-pushy environment. So come in and be tempted! You can also browse and buy online at bluelawnonline.co.uk
