Paving Analysis The carpet was chosen as a motive because it gives a personal expression and signal homely values and cosiness – as a wellknown internal images reminding of a classic living room scene where the dining table or the sofa group are situated on a carpet on the parquet floor. The “carpet” pattern is inspired by the many carvings and ornaments seen on the housing façades in the neighbourhood, Østerbro, Copenhagen, but through a carefully customized work it has gained its own unique and modern identity.

The main concept of the whole new block was forming a fluent ground floor with public functions, involving the surrounding open space into it. Another intention on higher levels was to divide the longish shape, making structural and visual segmentation and let through the pedestrian cross traffic towards the river and the promenade. On the east and north side of the building there is mostly pedestrian and vehicular traffic space, while on the south side there is the neighboring building site. Public functions like recreation, cafĂŠ terraces, sauntering along, having a little piece on a bench or lying on the grass, could be placed on the west side of the building towards river Danube. The designers covered these functions with a frame structure, which can form various spaces while being constant and fluent visually. Another aspect was to design a landscape which has its own ground floor look and gives an interesting sight from above the relatively high office building.
