Regain that Uncover the youthful Skin oflook Your Youth What makes your skin look older?

What does Fraxel do?

Over the years, your skin is exposed to sun, air pollution, stress, fatigue and lifestyle factors such as smoking, which can affect your skin’s texture, color and tightness.

• The Fraxel laser uses patented technology to target aging and sun damage with microscopic laser columns that penetrate into the skin.

Your skin contains two proteins, collagen and elastin, which keep your skin youthful and tight. But as you age and get more sun exposure those proteins break down faster than your body can rebuild them. As a result, your skin may start to sag and show damage like wrinkles, deep frown lines or sun spots.

• T he laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, leaving the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes rapid healing.

• T his stimulates your body’s own natural healing process, replacing the old and damaged cells with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.

Fraxel DUAL has the unique advantage of two treatment modes: 1550: penetrates deep into the skin layers, specifically targeting concerns such as wrinkles or acne scarring. 1927: effectively targets sun spots, age spots and tone and texture, which are more superficial signs of aging. The treatment will be tailored to your desired outcomes and can even be combined so that you receive the added benefits of both a superficial and deep laser treatment.

What should I expect on the day of treatment?

Is it safe?

There is no pre-treatment skin care regimen. On the day of your treatment, here is what happens:

As with any laser treatment, there are some potential side effects. The most common are swelling and redness, which are typically minimal and subside quickly. Other side effects may include:

•A fter cleansing your skin, anesthetic ointment is applied 60-90 minutes prior to treatment.

•Y ou may also receive other medications as the doctor prescribes.

• T he anesthetic is completely removed. The treatment takes approximately 20-25 minutes for a full face.

• Immediate post photos are taken.

Does it hurt?

•M ost patients describe an increased sensation of heat, or prickling, during the treatment.

• T o minimize discomfort, topical anesthesia is applied before the procedure and cold air is used on the treatment area during the procedure.

•A fter the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn, which usually diminishes in 1 to 3 hours.

• Minor itching, dry skin, peeling or flaking

• Bronzed skin appearance

• Risk of infection or scarring

The intensity and duration of side effects depend on the aggressiveness of treatment and on your particular healing characteristics. Please see the Commitment to Safety at the end of this book for a list of all potential risks.

What will I look like after the procedure?

Is there special post treatment care?

Each patient’s skin will react differently, though generally patients report a sunburned feeling.

• T here is no wound care after treatment. Generally, patients can return to their normal routine. You may have peeling and flaking for 2-7 days depending on your specific treatment.

•Y ou will be able to put on your make-up and continue your skincare regimen as instructed.

•W e recommend wearing sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher and avoiding direct sun exposure for at least 3 months after your last treatment.

•D epending on your tailored treatment settings, you may appear pink or red for 1-3 days.

•Y our skin will naturally “bronze” over the next week or two. As you continue treatment, the sunburnedto-bronzed appearance will repeat after each treatment.

•A s with a sunburn, your skin will flake and exfoliate normally. Use a moisturizer to reduce the appearance of dry flakes as instructed.

How many treatments will I need? Everyone’s skin is different, but typically patients will benefit from multiple sessions, depending on your desired outcomes. These sessions are generally spaced 2 to 6 weeks apart.

•D epending on your condition and schedule, we may choose to space treatment sessions further apart or perform additional treatments.

• T his timeframe and treatment structure allow for complete healing and the production of new collagen and elastin to replace damaged tissue.

Can other areas of the body be treated? Yes, with Fraxel 1927, we can treat multiple areas of skin in a single session. So as well as treating sun spots on your face, we can treat your hands, neck and décolleté.
