Brief Intro To The Winter Camp

IFMSA-Egypt members gather 3-4 times per year but definitely winter camp experience is always different! as it’s the greatest capacity-building event of the year where medical students from all over the country unite together for 4 years for learning, being capacitated with knowledge and new skills and what’s more important is making new friendships from different cities and unforgettable memories.

The annual IFMSA-Egypt Winter Camp is a greater version of our national general assemblies with an extended agenda offering medical students the opportunity to embark on a life-changing journey, where sessions on multiple topics are held back to back, trainings on every different skill are offered and the chance to unite medical students with a different stakeholder in health awaits us through the theme & side events. All for the purpose of empowering medical students from all over Egypt.

United For Action

Throughout the years, the Winter Camp has always had a theme that reflects IFMSA-Egypt’s priority and main field of interest for each year. Climate Change has been a rising issue over the past few decades and especially over the past few years. It is also IFMSA-Egypt’s National Priority towards which we aim to focus our action for the year.

Therefore, the theme for the 13th Winter Camp is Climate Action. 2022 has been a year of effective steps addressing and taking decisions to put a halt to the rising issue of climate change especially with Egypt hosting COP27 and COY17. As a student-led organization representing thousands of future healthcare professionals and partnering with multiple influential stakeholders, we want to play our role in climate action addressing it from our perspective in our biggest capacity-building event of the year. Due to the urgency to take corrective actions, the United Nations listed “Climate Change” as SDG 13.

Theme & Side Events

1.ThemeEvent

The Winter Camp theme event for this year’s Winter Camp will tackle the issue of Climate Change from a health perspective. This will be done through a panel discussion including multiple high-level expert panelists addressing climate change as a health hazard; its effects on the health of the population both directly and indirectly, the potential threats it causes to our well-being, and what we can do both as a youth organization and as future health professionals to combat climate change and avoid exacerbating the problem.

Climate change from a health viewpoint has not been the main concern addressed in past Climate Action events including COP27 which is why we believe that this should be the main Theme Event of our Organization’s biggest assembly of the year.

United For Action

2.SideEvents

The side events are 4-6 parallel sessions that can take variable forms including panels, movie discussions, group discussions, debates, seminars and others. Each side event will tackle climate change from a unique point of view like public health, medical and paramedical education, human rights and peace and sexual and reproductive health and rights. These side events will include our external stakeholders and partners,

IFMSA-Egypt’s Alumni who have relevant experience to the topic and active IFMSA-Egypt members. The side events serve to engage our members and involve them in the topics relevant to our theme by interacting with people with expertise relevant to our main topic on multiple levels.
