Welcome Message IFMSA-Egypt President Dearest IFMSA Friends, Guided by our sole aim to empower, inspire, and support medical students all over Egypt, we, IFMSA-Egypt, have always sought contribution and integration in the international medical students’ community. To that extent, we have set an example, not only for medical students in Egypt, but also for medical students in the whole world. Taking another step along our path of contribution, it is my pleasure to invite you all to IFMSA-Egypt’s 5th SubRegional Training, “The Cleopatrain”; the successor of four previous prosperous ones. IFMSA-Egypt is a non-political, non-religious, and non-profit student-lead organization that represents more than 80,000 Medical Students all over Egypt. IFMSA-Egypt is a full National Member Organization of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA). IFMSA-Egypt is represented through more than 4,500 active medical students in 25 Local Committees in all Egyptian Medical Schools. On our 50th Anniversary, IFMSA-Egypt is preparing you an exquisite organizational marvel. We are creating an opportunity for medical students all over the world to meet in one place to exchange knowledge, culture, and experience; an opportunity for all medical students to gather to discuss issues of public health, medical education, sexual and reproductive health, human rights and peace, and much more. On behalf of IFMSA-Egypt Family, Mahmoud Masoud, IFMSA-Egypt President 2018-2019

About IFMSA-Egypt In 1969, IFMSA-Egypt was founded by a group of exceptional, aspiring, and bright medical students. Our founders sought a single aim: the empowerment of medical students all over Egypt. Over the years, each generation has spared no efforts to assist IFMSA-Egypt’s flourishing, development, and expansion. United under that one aim, IFMSA-Egypt has endured 5 decades of solidarity and effectiveness in the tasks of empowering medical students and utilizing them to serve the Egyptian society in the fields of Public Health, Medical Education Improvement, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Human Rights and Peace. After 50 years of nothing short of hard work, we are harvesting the fruits of our predecessors: IFMSA-Egypt is representing more than 80,000 medical students, of which more than 4,500 are active members in their Local Committees, in 25 medical schools in Egypt. Succeeding our predecessors’ path, our members are working tirelessly, to empower medical students and serve the society, by more than 150 local projects and 14 national projects, and handling more than 300 Exchange Students annually.

Our History of International Hosting On the international level, IFMSA-Egypt’s organizational talent has always been unsurpassed. The Egyptian work ethics of the Pyramids’ masons have aided us throughout our long journey of international hosting. Our long list of international hosting started with IFMSA AM in 1980, followed by the Exchange Meeting in 1996 (later on named March Meeting), passing through IFMSA AM 1998, EMR1, IFMSA AM 2005, EMR5, EMR11, and most recently the remarkable IFMSA MM 2018. Furthermore, we have also managed to organize four SRTs and PRETs in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2017.

Snapshots of Our Previous SRT Our participants were representing all the five regions of IFMSA as following:

Workshops PRET The PRET is an international meeting of the IFMSA’s Local Exchange Officers, Local Officers on Research Exchange, National Exchange Officers, National Officers on Research Exchange, and anyone else interested in exchanges. There will be three days of exchange-related sessions, small working groups and trainings with the main objective of developing SCOPE and SCORE through improving your skills as an Exchange Officer, solving common problems, getting to know IFMSA, sharing experiences, meeting new people, getting super motivated, and, of course, having a lot of fun.

PHLT The PHLT is one of the main capacity building workshops of SCOPH, which aims to develop public health leaders who are able to implement plans and activities that help in reshaping the future of the health of this world. The PHLT works mainly on three pillars: Activity Management, Leadership, and Public Health. Those three pillars aim to capacitate the members and equip them with the adequate knowledge and skills that enable them to carry out their public health mission. This workshop aims to bring people from different backgrounds, all of whom share a common love for public health and a vision of making this world a healthier place. This workshop being part of our SRT is an excellent opportunity to raise the levels of the SCOPHeroes on national, regional, and international levels. Our members in Egypt, the EMR region, and in other regions should take the chance to build their public health capacities by attending this workshop.

TMET Making young voices heard is one of the cornerstones of IFMSA, as we are the official voices of medical students worldwide. Training our members in student representation and medical education helps shape, not only the quality of our future doctors, but also the quality of healthcare. In this light, this SRT in Training Medical Education Trainers will focus on empowering participants to initiate peer education based trainings on a local level, to guarantee the implication of their members and make sure their organizations’ voices are heard. This will help us continue to increase our impact, not only towards our members at the General Assemblies, but also at the national and local levels IFMSA has a dedicated organ that aims to implement an optimal and efficient learning environment for all medical students around the world – the Standing Committee on Medical Education (SCOME). As medical students are directly exposed to medical curricula, they should rightfully be assumed experts on their educational system, and should therefore have an influence on the creation of innovative curricula. From IFMSA’s experience, often the medical students are the strongest proponents for adapting their education to the needs of their community. Having said that, we -as medical students- lack (to some extent) knowledge, and the resources to deliver it to others. This is why, before we can lobby for the highest standards and change in our education, we require extensive capacity building for medical students. We need to become aware of many topics such as curriculum design and development, assessment, research, learning methods, and how to be a part of the medical education system. We need to know what to change and how to make the change. IFMSA is an organization that counts mainly on its members and medical students worldwide. Therefore, capacity building and non-formal education are two main ways to achieve the needs, vision, and mission of IFMSA. SCOME is there to provide its members via peer education, and to call in the expertise of the international level. The workshop is considered the first step of a series of workshops directed towards flourishing Medical Education and Student

Representation among medical students. The participants of this workshop who intend to become active as Medical Education Trainers will organize more workshops.

IPET International Peer Education Training is an IFMSA training that delivers extensive content on Comprehensive Sexual Education, and helps learn from it, as well as explains how to disseminate this knowledge to peers and to the public. In a country like Egypt, adolescents have almost zero access to any sexual education, and even reproductive health is addressed in a very limited way. This is why two years ago we started working on an adolescents’ project targeting high school students to be part of ending this ignorance. We would now like to provide IFMSA SCORAngels the opportunity to improve their skills and develop even better ways to deliver Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. The IPET aims to empower medical students to develop their skills further in communication and group dynamics while exploring values, attitudes, and knowledge in the fields of sexual and reproductive health and youth programming.

TNHRT The Training New Human Rights Trainers Workshop (TNHRT) is the international training on human rights in IFMSA created by the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace (SCORP). This workshop is created in the light of our mission to raise human rights awareness among medical students as well as to empower the youth to take action towards human rights in their communities. The TNHRT Workshop aims

to create ambassadors for human rights and humanitarian values within the healthcare and broad communities. This training will give the knowledge and tools to advocate for human rights, soft skills for training, inspiring, and empowering others. The training will consist of 3 working days based on a peer-to-peer approach, non-formal educative techniques, and different types of interactive activities and sessions, with the aim of making the workshop engaging and enjoyable as well as informative. During the sessions we will go through the basic knowledge of human rights, their history and development, the rights to health, peace and conflict resolution, refugees and migrants, children's rights, intercultural understanding, stigma-free healthcare facilities, and health care in danger. This training will provide a unique platform for medical students from different NMOs to receive the proper tools and skills to create and implement a Human Rights education program in their local communities as well as nationally and internationally if they wish. The workshop is considered part of a series of human rights related activities offered by SCORP, and is directed towards flourishing human rights education among medical students. Following completion of this workshop, participants will be expected to conduct a Human Rights related graduation training session, after which they will be encouraged to organize more sessions and become Human Rights educators and advocates in their local community.

TNT Do you want to know the ancient secrets of training? Explore the mysterious world of trainers and feel the vibe to train like a pharaoh? Then this is the workshop for you. The sessions delivered will be tailored to empower the trainers with the obligatory skills needed to deliver sessions and workshops. The TNT will sharpen their skills, and equip them with employment tools and knowledge, thereby increasing their awareness and empowering them. This workshop provides a unique platform for attendants from different backgrounds to receive the proper tools and skills, with which they will raise the bar of trainings at their respective local committees. In our special 5-days workshop, we will make the best trainer out of you. All of this is done while maintaining a touch of suspense coupled with fascination.

Theme Event

Go Green Our theme event this year will be ‘Go Green’, considering the grave environmental changes occurring and the dangerous global warming phenomenon that risks destroying our world on the long term; it seems like the perfect theme for our event! Go Green means to pursue knowledge and practices that can lead to more environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible decisions and lifestyles, which can help protect the environment and sustain its natural resources for current and future generations. We have reached a point in which we have affected our environment like never before: Oceans are heavily polluted, the temperature is rising, toxic waste dumps are everywhere, and the green areas are reducing in size. If the current generation does not put an end to the practices that endanger our ecosystems, the future generations will have a wasteland to live in, not a habitable planet! In our event, we will discuss how our generation can effectively handle this situation, how we can stop the harmful practices that damage the environment, how to change our behavior into an environmentally friendly one, and most importantly how to teach others to do the same!
