This Spanish-language Break the Silence (BTS) Toolkit is designed to support trainers, teachers, social workers, government officials and civil society actors to respond to issues of gender-based violence (GBV) and child sexual abuse (CSA) particularly as it affects migrant and mobile populations in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.

This BTS Toolkit has three components, all of which provide a comprehensive facilitation resource.

1 | SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS

The Situational Analysis gives insight into the plight of migrant communities in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago. It provides an overview of the movement of migrants into Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago and highlights institutional and other responses to CSA and GBV in the respective territories. It highlights the challenges of Spanish-speaking migrants and their systems of resilience in response to emerging gender-based vulnerabilities.

The Situational Analysis can be used independently in discussions with policymakers, media and students. For persons using this BTS Toolkit for training, it is essential that they review Package 1, for it provides a critical, migrant-relevant context for facilitators to guide participants through in-depth discussions that arise during training sessions.

2 | FACILITATION GUIDE

The Facilitation Guide supports facilitators during the preparation and implementation of training. The guide serves to assist them in meeting their training objectives and ensuring that participants are engaged in a safe learning environment. The Facilitation Guide includes: • learning objectives; • effective facilitation techniques; • dealing with sensitive issues and working with vulnerable populations; • implementation strategies; • workshop logistics; and • self-care guidelines.

Effective facilitation is key to providing successful training outcomes; therefore, it is important that, prior to embarking into training, all facilitators should thoroughly review the Facilitation Guide.
