IT Training Digital Training Services

Digital Training Services (DTS) offers and organises IT (Information technology) training for all staff members of the European Commission as well as enables the access to IT information through its IT library. What DTS does for you? • Management of end-user and IT professional training; • Management of the training catalogue in order to cover the training needs of the European Commission in terms of product, information systems and new IT technologies and methods, in line with the product management policy; • Implementation of on-line training (e-Learning) in the Commission; • Loans, to Commission staff members, of books, magazines, and electronic subscriptions to IT related publications. • Coordination of IT training with REFOIs (IT training managers in DGs) and organisation of meetings of the IT Training Working Group (GTFOR – “Groupe de travail de la Formation informatique”). • The activities of DTS are aligned with the Commission’s Strategic Learning and Development Framework adopted each year by the Commission. • DTS also accommodates participants from other European Institutions, on the basis of bilateral agreements with HR. Who is it for? Digital Training Services offers IT Training for end-users and IT professionals for all staff of the European Commission, Agencies and Other Institutions.

Prerequisites? For some courses the application workflow is simplified, meaning that the invitation to the course is immediately sent to you after the application has been created. For other courses the validation of the hierarchy and/or REFOI is needed.

Training and E-learning

Digital Training Services aims to be at the forefront of e-learning's newest technologies and developments. We strive to deliver an ever more effective and engaging learning experience. Learning on demand, performance support, social learning, mobile learning, video training, 'bite-size' and 'just-in-time' learning are only a few of the latest trends in the field. More than ever, e-learning fits into a blended perspective which combines both face-to-face training and e-learning.

Self-paced Learning

E-learn at your own pace! E-learning is often associated with self-paced learning. This approach allows you to study at your own pace and to access learning resources from different locations. It also includes online interaction with instructors, tutors and peers within a community of practice. You may enroll and start a course at any time. A coach will be available to assist you with the course contents, as well as a helpdesk in the event of technical problems.

Blended Learning

Make the most of both e-learning and face-to-face training! Blended learning is a mix of self-paced learning and classroom training. The proportion of face-to-face training may vary from one course to another. Typically, a classroom session will be scheduled at the very beginning of the course, another at the end, and perhaps one or more in between. The online course will remain accessible during the whole time frame.

E-learning solutions

Interested in developing an e-learning solution for your DG? In most organisations, e-learning is now a key component of internal training strategies. If your DG plans to offer e-learning courses, you may be interested in our booklet E-Learning @ the EC. This downloadable booklet describes the use of e-learning at the Commission. It contains useful information for DGs and Agencies which wish to develop their own e-learning projects. The information package has been prepared by Digital Training Services with the collaboration of its stakeholders (DG HR B.3, DG DIGIT B.4, DG DEVCO, DG COMM, U&I Learning, SYNAPS, Blackboard). Virtual classroom

Be ready to interact without leaving your work environment! This approach is more recent and is similar to videoconferencing and webinars. In a virtual classroom, you may actively participate and interact with the instructor and the other participants. Virtual classrooms enable you to attend a training session without moving away from your working environment. They are a valid and cost-effective solution to provide training to staff based in different locations. Live sessions are scheduled and participants need to make sure that they are available at the given date and time. You will need a headset with microphone, and possibly a webcam to communicate with others. The sessions are recorded and made available online, so that contents remain accessible for further consultation.
