IGNITECON AIESEC VICTORIA

Regional Induction Conference 2015 13 - 15 March

Ignite your future

WELCOME Hey AIESEC! Welcome to AIESEC Victoria’s Regional Induction Conference 2015! The purpose of this conference is for you to gain a more in-depth and holistic perspective into our organisation, what we do, and why we do it. Conferences are integral to our culture and is one of my favourite things in AIESEC! You have the opportunity to make new friends, learn new things, and immerse yourself in our unique organisation. But really, the magic happens in those conversations that you have with others. Last year, I was fortunate enough to represent AIESEC Australia at Asia Pacific Conference in The Philippines. There, I had a very interesting conversation with one national committee member of AIESEC Indonesia. We talked about our country, our aspiration for it and all. It made me realise that I haven't done a lot for my country and inspired me to change and do more. Since then, I have started volunteering again with a local NGO in my hometown and have been trying to expand operations of the alumni network I started a couple of years ago to increase English literacy in the city. I hope this conference will give you the opportunity to have powerful and insightful conversations in order to ignite a change. However, more importantly, have plenty of fun! AIESECly yours, Felix Lau (OCP)

CARMAN’S KITCHEN My passion for food started in 1992 when I was an 18-year-old first-year university student. My part-time job was making homemade muesli for a very small business that supplied a few cafes and delis around Melbourne. It's amazing where life can lead you‌ One day I was told that I was going to lose my job as the business was to be sold. I immediately thought, "You could buy this little business! You love the muesli and you make it already!" My offer of $1,000 was eventually accepted and Carman's was born. It was a life changing decision. Finishing my degree proved challenging as I made deliveries before morning lectures and balanced the books in the library during lunch breaks. Twenty years on, Carman's muesli, muesli bars, rounds, oats, porridge and clusters are now available in all major supermarkets across Australia. We still supply all of those same delis and cafes as before, as well as exporting to over 32 countries around the globe. As a mother of four young children, my passion for real food with real ingredients is stronger than ever. I am so proud of what Carman's has become. I hope you share my passion and enjoyment of Carman's too!

PANCAKE PARLOUR The LOVELY! Lady says: “Pancakes should be made to the following standards and never vary. The batter is lightly beaten and left slightly lumpy to trap air in the mix, so that it rises on the hotplate, producing a light, fluffy, golden-brown pancake. This is achieved by pouring the pancake mix onto a lightly oiled 190° hotplate. After 90 seconds, bubbles should appear and dry edges form. The pancake should then be turned with a wide spatula and left for a further 60 seconds cooking the centre to perfection." THE STORY OF THE LOVELY! LADY The image of a girl holding up a fork has become synonymous with The Pancake Parlour restaurants over the past four decades. Artist Peter Von Czarnecki adapted a woodcut from a long-defunct British magazine advertisement for “Harleen for the Hair.” Von Czarnecki replaced the comb in the lady’s hand with a fork and underneath emblazoned the simple word LOVELY! The LOVELY! Lady logo was born and seen on such unlikely places as the helmets of the US Soldiers in Vietnam, the snowmobiles of the Australian contingent in Antarctica and the giant hot air balloons of Roger Meadmore in the skies over Europe during the world championships.
