Outstanding Ofstead Pupils and staff at Meare Village Primary School are delighted with the outcome of their recent OFSTED inspection as the school was judged to be Outstanding in all areas. The report noted that ‘‘Pupils make outstanding progress from broadly average levels on entry to the school. Progress in all years is excellent’ They give high praise of the teaching at the school, commenting that ‘Teaching is outstanding. In all lessons, work is challenging and closely matched to what teachers know about how well pupils make progress. Teachers expect high standards of pupils and make sure that the work they provide is interesting and stretches them to the limit of their abilities.’ The inspector interviewed parents and children and concluded that ‘Pupils enjoy school. They are enthusiastic and stay interested and hardworking throughout the day’. Headteacher, Deborah Eveleigh was recognised for her work in leading the school
to Outstanding status and for her work in supporting other schools in her role as a Local Leader of Education, accredited by the National College for School Leadership. The reports states ‘The Headteacher provides outstanding direction for the school’s work and she is exceptionally well supported by all other staff. Staff work extremely well together, and have an accurate view of the areas they need to work on to maintain and improve the high quality of pupils; achievements’. The school is known locally and nationally for its work in Film and Media and their Outdoor Education Programme. Mrs Eveleigh said ‘We are obviously delighted with the outcome of our OFSTED inspection but this is only one measure by which a school should be judged. Hopefully, our parents and carers already felt justifiably proud of the school, as was demonstrated by the positive comments to the inspector.’

ARTS & CRAFTS DAD PHOTO FRAME
MUG WARMER
You will need:
A5 card (we used A4 and cut in half) Stickers and any other embellishments you have Glue 3 Photographs
Instructions:
Draw two D’s and an A shape onto the card, and cut out. Use a small pair of scissors to cut out the inside of the letters, too (younger children will need adult help or supervision). Decorate your letters. We simply used stickers but you can use gems, ribbons, sequins, pompoms or anything else from your craft box. Glue a photo to the back of each letter so that it fills the aperture. Trim any overhanging bits of photo away. Layer the letters so they overlap slightly, spelling out the word “Dad”, and glue together. You could laminate the photo frame to make it last, or enclose the whole thing within a larger Perspex frame.
PHOTO COASTER
You will need:
Felt Fabric paint Self adhesive hook and eye fasteners Optional, fabric glue and any embellishments you like.
Instructions:
Measure your felt around your Dad’s favourite mug. Cut out a rectangle about ½ inch shorter than the mug and long enough to fit around the mug with an inch overlap. Shape the ends of the rectangle so it will fit through the handle. Decorate the felt with fabric paint and any other embellishments (the simpler you make it the easier to wash if you need to). When the glue and paint is dry, wrap around the mug and ask a friend to secure in place with the hook and eye fastener.
You will need:
Unwanted CD, CD-Rom or DVD, Large photo, PVA glue (white glue), Pens, Acrylic varnish (optional)
Instructions:
Print out a photo onto standard printer paper large enough to cover your disc. Glue the photo to the disc (the side with the picture or writing on) making sure the central image is in the centre of the disc. When dry trim to size and add a message with the pens. To seal, paint over the image and the edges with PVA glue and leave to dry. Repeat. If you wish you can make your coaster extra-hardwearing by using acrylic varnish rather than PVA glue.
SILHOUETTES
LOOSE CHANGE TRAY
You will need:
A profile photo (it will be cut out so printing on standard paper is fine) Glue stick A dark shade of card Backing card Picture frame
Instructions:
Cut a piece of backing card to fit your photo frame. Glue your photo to the dark card. Carefully cut around the face in the photo, shaping to a curved line around the neck. Glue the cut out face to the backing card, so that the photo is face down. Frame your picture.
SHIRT AND TIE CARD You will need:
Sheet of A4 card Small piece of brightly coloured card Scraps of coloured paper Glue
Instructions:
Fold the card in half, to make your ‘card’. With the fold on your left, cut a slit about 1inch long down the middle of the card. Fold the top edge of the card over on the diagonal, from the centre cut to the top corners, to make the collar. Cut a tie shape from the bright card and decorate it with scraps of coloured paper. Glue your tie to the centre of your card. If necessary, add a bit of glue to keep the collar in position.
Is Dad forever losing his keys? Why not make him a tray to put on the hall table so that he can empty his pockets when he arrives home? Dad will always be able to find his keys and his loose change.
You will need:
A polystyrene tray - the sort fruit or meat comes on. Make sure it has been cleaned well. Acrylic paints
Instructions:
Simply paint your tray however you like and leave to dry.

Ben’s Granny is totally boring and he dreads going to stay with her as he has to eat cabbage, play scrabble and she treats him like a baby.
After several accidents it gets gloopy, squishy, slimy and sluggy and the sandwich does not look as good as it did. Badger is still so desperate to have the sandwich but will he want to eat it if he does eventually gets his paws on it? Or will it just be too disgusting?

Then ask an adult to help you mix the strawberries, rapeseed oil and maple syrup together in a blender. Pour the mushy strawberry liquid into the container. Put the container in a freezer. Leave it in the freezer for 2 hours. After 2 hours, take the partly frozen liquid out of the freezer. Scrape it with a fork to make icy lumps – this will help to make it crunchier. Now put it back in the freezer and leave it for 24 hours. When you are ready to eat it, take the granita out of the freezer. Scrape the surface with a fork to take off some granita shavings. Put the shavings in a glass (or bowl) to serve. Decorate it with the berries, basil and mint if you have some.

BEACH BEAUTIFUL
As summer approaches and we all start to put our winter clothes away (at last) and look forward to summer days in the sunshine and holidays that seem to of taken an age to come around since they were booked, we also have that all important check list of health & beauty to look at so that we can feel radiant in the summer sun. It can be hard to take time out for yourself when the weeks go by so fast with school runs, homework and after school clubs but by allowing yourself some time for a pamper will ensure you feel confident and glowing in your summer clothes.
Having a tan always makes us feel slimmer and more radiant so try applying fake tan or visit a local beauty salon for a professional tan. Avoid using too many heated styling appliances as this will dry out your hair. Treat your self to a pedicure so that your feet look gorgeous in your fabulous summer footwear. Ex-foliate and your skin will be glossy or you could visit a beauty salon One thing to make sure you do this summer is ENJOY!
Here are a few tips for getting yourself ready for summer: We would never recommend a crash diet but if you would like to lose a few pounds why not contact your local slimming consultant who can give you the best advice on how to shed any unwanted pounds. To firm up those wobbly bits visit a local gym or attend some fitness classes. Stay away from lip gloss on the beach unless you like the taste of sand in your mouth! So steer clear of anything glossy and opt instead for a lip balm instead preferably one with a SPF of 15 or higher. Try waxing, electrolysis or laser hair removal for a longer lasting de-fuzzing!

Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Foundation is a children’s health charity which raises funds to improve the quality of life for sick children is hospitals and hospices throughout the UK. The work the Foundation carries out is absolutely vital and greatly appreciated by the children and of course the families of those sick children. Every year 2.4 million children are admitted to hospital – that’s about 20% of all children under 16 in the UK. 20,000 children in the UK are suffering from a life limiting illness and will not make it to their 18th birthday. The charity was founded in 2003 and has helped 83 children’s hospitals and hospices and has given out grants totalling over £1.52 million! The Foundation funds projects that will ensure that whilst in hospital and hospice care, children can still play, socialise and

recuperate from treatment in a child friendly environment that includes arts, music and play therapy programmes; sensory equipment and facilities; respite care; state of the art equipment and parent accommodation. Wrong Trousers Day is a huge, annual fundraising event organised by the Foundation which is backed by the Award-winning characters Wallace & Gromit and this year celebrates the 10th Anniversary of Wrong Trousers Day. The inspiration for Wrong Trousers Day come from the film The Wrong Trousers where Wallace gets Gromit an amazing birthday present, a pair of Techno Trousers that can take Gromit for walks! Why not join in and wear the wackiest trousers to celebrate 10 years of raising vital funds on Friday 21st June 2013, although maybe a pair of ‘Techno Trousers’ might not be a good idea!
It’s easy to take part in Wrong Trousers Day and show your support, you can register online for a free fundraising pack at www.

A NEW CHALLENGE Is your life go go go?? What with work, kids and everything else that life throws our way, it’s amazing during the daily grind we ever find a few moments of quiet time but it’s been known to happen. Why not grab the bull by the horns and take advantage of that small window of spare time you have and do something ‘for you’. Why not take up a new hobby or even learn something new. Just because you have a small bit of spare time on your hands doesn’t necessarily mean you have to spend it cleaning or slogging it out in the gym! Why not embrace the shabby chic/vintage revival which is sweeping the nation and learn how to make some fabulous things for your home and save yourself some money at the same time. You could learn how to sew and crochet, paint and make pottery. With your new found hobby you’ll be revamping your home with all of your amazing hard work. You could join a local club to fill that bit of spare time, not only will you be enjoying yourself but will also have the opportunity to make some new friends – a photography club, a dance class or why not join a singing group. Singing has some great benefits that most of us are probably unaware of; as you take deep breaths during singing more oxygen reaches the brain and makes you more alert plus using facial expressions improves the muscle tone in your face, throat, neck and jaw thereby promoting a youthful appearance!

Hi, my name is Henry Horse
My name is Henry and I’m a horse, because I am a male horse I am called a stallion, female horses called mares. I love the fresh air and love roaming about in my field but I also like to go in to my stable at night where its warm. All horses, including me, love living with other animals as we are known as herd animals and we communicate by neighing. I love to eat grass but I also enjoy hay, oats, barley and bran and I absolutely love carrots, apples and of course sugar lumps...but I’m not really allowed to much sugar. I like to drink lots and lots of water. My owner rides me lots and I love to gallop and jump, but we do sometimes go out on roads which means have to wear special shoes on my hooves which are made out of metal and I have to have them trimmed every 4 weeks. We can live up to 30 years but there was once a horse called ‘Old Billy’ who was an English Barge Horse who lived until he was 62! Did you know that I can sleep both lying down and standing up and that I can gallop up to 27mph!? Also when foals (baby horses) are born they can stand up and walk within 1 to 2 hours!
“Don’t let your ponies get to FAT this summer! Now the grass is growing in the sun you must ensure that your pony remains a good weight. An easy way to do this is to use an Equine Weight tape (ask your vet, and find out if your pony is to fat, thin or just right!). Fat ponies are very prone to developing Laminitis, so you must give your ponies plenty of exercise, restrict their feeding/ grazing if required and regularly use that weight tape!”
