REpAIR CAFE: fixing a LL sOr Ts, frOM BaTMOBiLE s TO TaBLE LaMPs
The Keynsham Repair Cafe sees a huge variety of broken things, and this month was extra special, as a Batmobile arrived needing a bit of attention,” said volunteer, Gwen. “Whilst we couldn’t fix it on the spot, we think we’ve identified the part which is needed, so we’re hoping ‘Batman’ will return again soon and we can help get it back on the road.”
More typically, the volunteers at the Keynsham Repair Cafe – a free of charge, pop-up, monthly repair event with a cafe, at Keynsham Baptist Church on the High Street – help to fix everyday household things like toasters and lamps, sew a button onto a jacket, glue a handle back onto amuch-loved mug, as well as more unusual items.
“The team love the surprise of the repair cafe; we never know what will be brought through the door, or the ingenuity that will be needed to get things working again. Some things just can’t be fixed, others can’t be fixed by us – and we try and provide suggestions about who might be able to help.”
There are over two and a half thousand voluntary repair cafes globally, and plenty around the Bath and Bristol area. “If you have something you would like to be able to use again, why not take a look at our website, or turn up at our next event? Our ‘successful fix’ rate is more than 80%!” keynshamrepaircafe.wixsite.com/home
