News from the 1st Radstock Scouts

1ST RADSTOCK SCOUTS

1st Radstock Scouts have had another exciting term and have not let the dark nights and cold weather stop them from enjoying a range of activities.

The Beavers have been learning about engineering by making bridges out of spaghetti and marshmallows, all structures successfully supported various vehicles! They have also been working towards their Space Activity badge with activities, including star walks and 2 weeks ‘visiting’ the International Space Station where they had a go at space walking, using robotic arms and learning Russian. The Beavers were presented with the Radstock in Bloom Chairman’s Award for their help with Southfield Community Garden.

Cubs have been Around the World in 24 hours, collecting stamps on their passports for each country they visited. They have also enjoyed a trip to the American Museum in Bath, in particular the Lego exhibition.

Finally the Scouts have been ice skating, burnt off energy at a Wii Just Dance evening and have recently celebrated Burns Night with haggis, neeps, tatties and a glass of Irn Bru!

The Group had a very busy Festive Season and would like to thank those people who attended our Christmas Fayre and also supported the Christmas Post. Along with the sectional parties the Group also had a very lovely Christmas Carol Service kindly hosted by St Nicholas’ church and led by Rev’d Ian Rousell.

Each section meets weekly during term time and is open to all young people from the age of 6 to 14 and is also on the look out for adult volunteers to help meeting activities as well as committee members. For more information, please contact Janet Turner on radstockscouts@btinternet.com
