Gearing up for LNG2019

Gearing up for LN G2019

Preparations are well underway and registration is open for the 19th International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas which will be held in Shanghai, April 1-5, 2019. By Mark Blacklock

“LNG2019 is expected to be the largest LNG industry event ever held in China,” says Wang Zhehong, Deputy General Manager of Shenergy Group and Executive Chairman of the LNG2019 National Organising Committee (NOC). “It is expected to attract 240+ speakers, 11,000+ attendees and 500+ organisations from over 80 countries and will present all aspects of the LNG value chain.”

The event will be hosted by IGU Charter Member the China Gas Society, IGU Associate Member the China LNG Association, the Chinese Association of Refrigeration and the China Gas Association with the support of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.

China is the world’s number two LNG importer and purchased 39.5 million tonnes in 2017 according to IGU’s latest World LNG Report. It is the third largest overall consumer of natural gas with extensive domestic production and pipeline imports as well as LNG supplies.

The venue for LNG2019 is the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre in the city’s expo area just east of the Huangpu River. It is served by two metro lines and buses, while the journey time by taxi from Hongqiao airport is approximately

35 minutes and from Pudong airport 50 minutes.

Room blocks and special discounted rates have been negotiated at a range of hotels within easy reach of the venue and there will be complimentary shuttle buses between hotels and official event venues. Hotels are filling up fast so book now via the registration page at www.lng2019.com.

There was a tremendous response to the call for papers with just over 400 abstracts submitted. They have been evaluated by the LNG2019 Programme Committee, a 46-member team of LNG experts chaired by Dr Nirmal Chatterjee, supported by the conference organiser, CWC Solutions.

“The LNG X series of events stands out from all other natural gas related conferences due to the depth and breadth of the commercial and technical contents of its sessions,” says Dr Chatterjee. “In the commercial area we delve deeper into the financial and regulatory aspects of market and project development, very specific new markets and opportunities, and, above all, how emerging markets and opportunities in China and Asia are changing the very nature of financial and project structuring. The technical sessions show how we are making the industry safer, more reliable, more environmentally sustainable, more innovative and more cost efficient. The presenters are all experts in their own field and we have been delighted with both the quality and quantity of abstract submissions for the 2019 edition.”

Plenary speakers confirmed to date include Fatih Birol of IEA, Seung-Il Cheong of KOGAS, Jack Fusco of Cheniere, Mark Gyetvay of Novatek, Dinan Huang of Shenergy Group, JooMyung (Joe) Kang the IGU President,

Li Yalan of Beijing Gas Group and IGU’s Vice President, Alexey Miller of Gazprom, Thierry Pilenko of TechnipFMC and Mike Worth of Chevron.

A technical tour will be offered on April 1, 2019 to the Yangshan LNG terminal and the Lingang gas-fired power plant, both run by Shenergy Group, while there will be a full range of social and networking activities.

Having successfully run each LNG X exhibition since LNG 12 in 1998, Exhibi

tions and Trade Fairs (ETF) is again part of the team managing LNG2019’s exhibition. It is anticipated that there will be 30,000m2 of exhibition space with exhibitors covering the entire spectrum of the LNG industry, including specialist pavilions showcasing Natural Gas Vehicles (NGVs) and Marine Technology.

Companies outside China interested in exhibiting at LNG2019 or in sponsorship opportunities can contact Jason Berman of ETF at jberman@etf.com.au. For China headquartered businesses, please contact Jackie Tan of Shanghai International Trade Promotion Company at jackietan@itpc.com.cn.

The LNG X conferences started in 1968 as the world’s leading liquefied natural gas forum. Owned by IGU, the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) and the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR), they have settled into a three-yearly cycle. The series is the only LNG event owned by the industry and run for the industry. www.lng2019.com is the first stop for more information and for conference enquiries please contact info@lng2019.com. The technical tour will include a visit to the Yangshan LNG receiving terminal.

Access to reliable energy means empowerment and increased living standards. With an estimated 16% of the world’s population, that’s 1.2 billion people, still having little or no access to electricity and with around 80% of these living in rural areas, global energy demand is predicted to increase by around 30% between today and 2040. At the same time society is committed to transitioning to a low carbon energy future and, without rethinking our energy balance, the two are simply not compatible. The challenge therefore is to produce a lot more energy without worsening air quality conditions. While focusing solely on renewables will deliver the second part of the equation, the associated technologies are not developed sufficiently to deliver all the energy required and, as the cleanest burning fossil fuel, natural gas is fundamental to this transition.

LNG is natural gas that has been refrigerated to -162°C (-260°F). It is a clear, colourless, non-toxic liquid reduced to 1/600th of its original volume making it easy to transport and store.

Chart is a key player in the development of small-scale models and the associated infrastructure across the value chain; liquefaction, distribution and storage, that are revolutionising the LNG

landscape and delivering economic solutions bringing power to off-grid locations, displacing distillates for a range of high horsepower applications in industry and as an alternative transport fuel to heavy polluting diesel and heavy fuel oils for trucks, ships and even railway locomotives.
