ISSUE #003// march Happy New Year! I’m still unsure when the moment for saying that it's over, as after a while it can sound a little out of place. Still, at the beginning (we are still at the beginning) of 2011, with the resolutions hopefully still in place, we at iheart want to make sure you have the happiest start to the New Year! Resolution wise, I’d be interested to see some stats in terms of how many of us are still going strong. I am endeavouring to get out running as much as possible, and making sure I get out the city more, but coming out my flat this morning to the chilly air and damp ground doesn’t necessarily appeal to the “LETS GO RUNNING!” gene. This is the season less of resolution but more of discipline I believe. Easy-as to make a decision to do something, takes a bit more gumption to get up and go! Whatever your resolutions or goals for this year: go for them, it could be a year that changes your life if you really put something into it! Helen Helen Young Editor

“Different ingredients have to be all chopped up and put together to make it what it is as a finished product before anyone is gonna want it”. It’s a fair enough explanation, if a little bizarre. I know I wouldn’t be up for eating a bowl of lentils, unless there was some sort of soupy context to them. This Silent Forest are a six piece band, led by Macdonald. They are about to release their first single Falter Discover, a gorgeous, organic blend of modern folk, jovial pop and crisp Scottish vocals that are up there with the likes of Frightened Rabbit (with lyrics just as honest). The thing that separates them from the rest is quite simply how hard they work. With a 9 to 5, Monday to Friday working week outside any rehearsal time, it’s fair to say things can probably get a bit full on at times. When I asked if it can be challenging doing things this way, Macdonald simply answers “not really, it needs to be done”. When it comes to their recording process, it becomes clear that this is a band that have an eye for excellence and a drive to do everything but ‘settle’. “We spent 53 hours recording these two songs and we have acoustic versions, instrumental versions and a remix of the single” he says, with just the right amount of pride. Pulling them even further away from the norm is the little known fact that for every copy of Falter Discover sold, This Silent Forest have decided they want to give 10p to
Nordoff Robins Music Therapy. Having studied Behavioral Science at University, Macdonald talks about his wholehearted belief that the guys at Nordoff Robins are right on the money with the suggestion that for people with communicative disorders, music therapy can enhance expressive and interactive ability. Falter Discover is released on March 7th.

I really loved going to GVR - I've tried numerous hairdressers in Glasgow since I moved here but they were amazing. The price was so reasonable and the staff were lovely. My hair is naturally very big and wavy/frizzy, kind of like a lion. This Brazilian Blow Dry has been amazing with the aftercare products I can wash my hair and when I dry it it's so straight! If I use my GHD's it makes it even straighter and so glossy. My hair is so much more manageable now.
I needed a cut and colour too and decided to go for a full fringe and copper/ginger colours - I get bored really easily with my hair! Heather did my hair and I totally love it, she was brilliant. She was telling me they do student nights too where I can get a discount - this plus the whole experience means I'm definitely going to be a regular customer there from now on!
