String Trio in C minor op 9 no 3 Adagio Winter Sunrise Divertimento for string trio in E flat K
This highly-acclaimed group brings a programme that opens with one of Beethoven’s powerful early trios and culminates in Mozart’s great Divertimento K 563, a late work that despite its title is a serious largescale composition in six movements. In between are two more recent attractive and contrasting short pieces. ...such a fine intense performance as this brings out [Mozart’s] mastery...the hushed intensity of the playing of the Adagio, beautifully sustained at its measured pace, bears witness to the mastery of the three players. Michael Tippett once wrote provocatively that one of the primal gifts of the song writer is the ability to destroy all the verbal music of the poetry or prose and to substitute the music of music. We aim to consider the transformation of referential words into musical sounds from a number of practical and theoretical perspectives, with a keynote lecture by Professor Stephen Banfield. This event is part of the ‘20th-c British Poets in Music’ festival.
