CNTD: STUDENT CONFERENCE- DESIGN CHARRETTE The Design Charrette allows four of the top students from each Campus Center to participate in a four-‐hour design competition administered by a regional design firm. Students were chosen to participate based on professor recommendation, and were senior level student members of IIDA. Student Design Charrette Participating Universities: The Art Institute Houston Texas Tech University University of North Texas University of Texas at Arlington University of Texas at San Antonio Baylor University Texas State U niversity Stephen F. Austin University of Oklahoma Oklahoma State University Louisiana State University Ziegler Cooper provided a full program, client + mission, floorplans, and guidelines for a four hour Design Charrette. Jim Hanlin, Janet Rogers, and Lindsey Kowalkowski of Ziegler Cooper, as well as M eghan Simicek from Kirksey, also spent their morning with the students, giving feedback and working through the development process. Here’s a peek at the Charrette problem and how we spent our morning! “Expressing Client Mission and Values through Design” Client: Dress for Success Program: Utilize the site plan and floor plan provided to design an indoor space that meets the program requirements and an outdoor space that expresses the client mission and educates the local community. Provide a written design concept for your solution and provide the necessary sketches, perspectives, finishes and materials to convey your concept. Your design must include space plans for both the interior and exterior spaces. All methods that students chose to communicate their design were required to fit on a 24” x 36” board to be judged and displayed at the end of the charrette.
