IKER MARIN 2019
ABOUT ME Hi! I am Iker, an Industrial Product Designer who is studying at Mondragon Unibertsitatea. I am an active, positive and compromised person. Being a free time monitor and Project Orienting Problem Based Learning have helped me develop my capacity to relate with different people and profiles. My goal is to design for people. Thanks to the design thinking methodology I use, I am able to solve use’s problems using different design tools. I like to help and work with people because you can learn something new from every person. For me, design means connection between user and designer. Understanding the use’s problems and needs are key for a good design. So, my design consists on giving solutions to a problem in the simplest possible way. Understand, empathize, and create. I like surfing and longboarding, and I try to practice whenever I can. Being in contact with nature gives me calm and freedom. It is also a time that is fully for me, so it helps me to meditate and think for myself. I also like to experience powerful emotions by surfing and longboarding, is when better I feel.

Objective & approach Find a viable soltion to a daily problem. For that, the user and its problem have been analised by a trend searching in order to detect a design opportunity.
Entities
WHERE IS THE OPPORTUNITY? Trend identification Trends about health and wellbeing sais that there’s a clear consumption trend about natural and ecological products. Infusions have become one of the most drunk beverages in Europe. They also have good benefits for human bodies. Sport and ddisconnection from everyday life is primal for young and adult civilians. Personalisation and the “do it yourself” movement have gained strength in the last years. The possibility to make and dossify your beverage and the content of it is very important for the consumers.
USER
Worried about its own health and wellbeing.
It’s essential to keep the infusion hot or cold for hours.
Possibility to drink it whenever and wherever he can.
Personaliseable and dosable as you like.
IDEATION Taking into account all the characteristics defined on the Brief, some ideas have been transformed into conceptual and form searching sketches. The search of the most simple and minimalist form has been the challenge of this phase. Also, it has been decided to be a modular bottle.
Dosage The bottle is designed to give the user the possiblity to make the wished dose. That`s the reason why the bottle can be combined two ways, with a total capacity of one liter. With the innovation of puting the infuser in the middle, the user can prepare the quantity wished for every moment. The result is the saving on water and wasted space with the same product.
Cover It is made of stainless steel. Thanks to the screwed closure, the mpermeablity of the bottle is conserved.
Infuser

DEVELOPMENT
Two bodies make up the infuser bottle. The material selected is a double-glazed borosilicate glass. This material holds the liquid temperature for hours.
FINAL CONCEPT
Top of the infuser It is compound by a perforates stainless steel and silicone for sealing. With the top, the leaves of the infusion remain inside the infuser, making the bottle cleaner.
Form & shape Flaske is divided in two cilindrical bodies joined by the infuser. Each double-glazed body has a capacity of 250 mililiters. The bottle cover and the infuser are made of stainless steel, that is an excellent thermal insulator. To find the best option to seal the bottle, a traditional screwed sealing has been decided to use, as it is one of the most confortable sealing systems.
Flaske Dose your infusion and pour it up in the infuser. Seal the infuser by pressing the top.
Fill it up with water the firts body. Screw the infuser and finish filling the bottle.
Shake it to disperse the flavour. Your infusion is ready. ยกEnjoy it!

EXPLORATION Defining the user A young individual who lives alone in an old remodeled individual flat. It spends almost half of the day at home, the rest of the day is working with a fixed schedule. The user cares about the environmental issues and wants and ecological device. The consumer doesn’t care about money; wants a durable boiler. It wants the house to be warm when arriving home, and the possibility to programe it. The rest s very important for it, so a quiet device is perfect for him, located outside the house.
BRIEF
Minimalist, neutral colour design. Compact, space saving.
Intuitive interface and interaction with it from everywhere.
Outdoor condition resistant materials.
Money saving heating system.
SKETCHING Taking all the requirements into account, a sketching process has been done in order to create as much ideas as possible. As the aerothermal boiler type selected is a monoblock unit; all in one, only a one one piece product has been designed.
Powder coating Thanks to this type of coating, it can be obtained a glossy finish at any colour. Also, powder coating protects the material from corrosive substances.
Stainless steel case The case has to be manufactruable, light, recyclable and resistant to environmental hazards. The material that gathers all the requirements is an specific stainless steel.
Copper tubes The tubes has to endure big pressures and high temperatures due to the liquid that goes trough the pipes, so copper tubes have been chosen.
EVA
Basic control screen
Outside & inside EVA is a modular device designed to be outside the house, in the valcony. So, it has been decided to give power to the aesthetic because it can be seen from the street. A compact shape makes the boiler almost invisible, and its neutral colours are combinable with almost any background. As the boiler is located outside, the main control of it is going to be in a separated indoor screen. Having an indoor control suits the users comfort. In an emergency case, the boiler has an outdoor basic parameter screen.
Indoor control screen
EVApp
Comodity first It has been designed a mobile application to ease the process of switching and programing the boiler. The app is connected to the boiler every time. Thanks to it, the user can programe the day, hour and temperature to heat the house. It also has the possibility to see the boiler conditions, such as the pressure.

Teamwork Arizt GoĂąi
2019 Objective & approach Design a packaging for broth tablets that can meet the characteristics of the african market, maximizing the presence on the selling point.
3 weeks Entities
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION African market The african food market is a sector where is difficult to give visibility to the brand. The traditional markets and selling points where the broth tablets are selled are caotic and desordered looking. That is why is difficult to sell products. The approach will be to empower the presence of the brand on the selling point. To do so, it is neccesary to design an exhibitor packaging solution adapted to the african distribution market needs.
BRIEF
Designed for the african consumer and seller.
Brand graph and colour line aesthetic.
Fully reciclable and reusable materials. Cheap production.
The default number of tablets can’t vary. The distribution need to be manteined.
AESTHETICAL LINE
8 kg The brand trust is the one of the keys to sucess. The packaging designed must continue the brands trust. Yellow and red colours are going to be maintained, as well as the brand logo and stickers design. Also, the colours used attracts to the consumers because of the stricking tonality.
DEFINING THE IDEA The packaging solution is going to be divided in three levels. The first level of packaging wraps up the broth tablet. The second one gathers 48 tablets. The third package will have space for 12 second level packaging. It will have two functions, distribution pakage and exhibitor.
Open & closed It has been designed a second level pakcaging able to open and close whenever is desired to pick up the tablets remaining. The box is going to have an easy-open system with a scratch pattern to ease the opening. The open -close system allows to fasten the process of gathering and solves the problem of having disordered tablets that can’t be ordered.
Flexography The fast drying of ink, the production of large batches and the versatility of use are the reasons why these printing system has been chosen for the packaging.
Simple corrugated cardboard The cardboard is the most used packaging material in the industry. Its resistance, manufacturability, reciyclability and reusability makes this material to be the best option.
BOX
EXHIBITOR Optimization The designed exhibitor has a planning where one exhibitor fits with another in order to ease the transportation.
Duble-wall cardboard Stronger corrugated cardboard has been chosen for the exhibitor because it has to endure more weigth, hits and deformations.
Order & presence The exhibitors is designed to be seen. By using the brand strinking colours, the exhibitor gains presence in the selling point. The logo is visible and is printed on a inclined wall in order to read and be seen easier in the buying process. The distribution has been taking into account also. That is why the third packaging level exhibitor is also the distributor package. By the arranging system for transportation, less space is needed.
Flaske SOLUTION Once the box is opened, the opening cap has a graph that intensifies tha brand logo.
Thea easy-opening allows to close the box once the journal finishes.
The back flange keeps the box opened to allow the cosumer take a broth tablet.
