Course Registration
2.1. Course Registration • •
All core courses will be pre-registered (shown in AIMS from 3 August 2009 onwards) Submit paper Add / Drop Form if you have any changes on course selection (10 August – 7 September 2009)
2.2. Course Add / Drop •
Preparation Work o Activate your EID (Appendix III) o Before adding any course by checking the "Master Class Schedule" to find out if the course is WEB-ENABLED; the registration restrictions; whether there are available seats; and whether the meeting day and time conflict with your existing schedule. o Check "Course Information" from "Programmes and Courses" website for prerequisite and precursor requirements. o Write down the CRNs (Course Reference Numbers), course code, title and section numbers of the courses you intend to add to your schedule. Make sure you have included ALL components of a course, e.g. lecture + tutorial + laboratory.

Web Add / Drops o Students can add/drop courses on-line via the web in AIMS for web-enabled courses. o Check "Course Information" from "Programmes and Courses" website for prerequisite and precursor requirements. o Web add / drop period: 17 August – 7 September 2009 o Steps for Web Add/Drops Getting Started 1. 2. 3. 4. 5
Log onto CityU e-Portal. Select AIMS Click "Course Registration" menu . Click "Select Term", choose the correct term and press "Submit Term". Click "Add or Drop Classes" and you will find your pre-registered course sections under "Current Schedule".

Click "Class Search" at the bottom of the page to go to the "Look Up Classes" Menu. Enter your search criteria: (i) select one department in "Subject", then enter the course number or enter the course title as a context search; OR (ii) select one or several departments (press Control key) in "Subject", select day or evening in "Session", select any one day of the week or do not tick any box in "Days".

To add course sections, check the relevant "CRN" boxes. Go to the bottom of the page and click "Register". Course sections successfully registered will be shown under your "Current Schedule". Alternatively, you can input the CRNs directly under the heading "Add Classes Worksheet" in the "Add or Drop Classes" form, then click "Submit Changes".

Drop a Course 13. To drop a course section, click the arrow button under Action in your "Current Schedule" and choose "Web drop", and then click "Submit Changes".
Registration Errors 14. If the add request is unsuccessful, a box with the heading "Registration Add Errors" will appear below your schedule. 15. To remove the Registration Error box, click "Submit Changes" or click "Course Registration" menu and re-enter the "Add or Drop Classes" menu.
Finishing Your Session 16. After completing all web add/drops, click "My Detail Schedule" to double-check your class schedule record. 17. When you have finished, make sure that you close e-Portal before leaving your terminal.

Paper Add / Drops • To add / drop required courses and programme electives which are NOT webenabled, print the Add/Drop Form from AIMS, complete the form and submit it EF Department for approval. • Any add/drop received by the department after the add / drop period will not necessarily be approved and will be considered on a case by case basis. • Paper add / drop period: 10 August – 7 September 2009

Academic Honesty
•
You must pursue your studies with academic honesty, which is central to the conduct of academic work. You are expected to present your own work, give proper acknowledgement of other's work, and honestly report findings obtained.

Students who commit an act of academic dishonesty which jeopardizes the integrity of the learning and assessment process may be charged and be liable to disciplinary actions. You must refrain from the following examples of academic dishonest behaviour: o plagiarism o submission for assessment of material that is not the student's own work; o misrepresentation of a piece of group work as the student's own individual work; o collusion, i.e., obtaining assistance in doing work which is meant to be solely the student's own work; o unauthorized access to an examination/test paper; o use of unauthorized material in assessment; o communicating unauthorized information during assessment; o use of fabricated data claimed to be obtained by experimental work, or data copied or obtained by unfair means; o impersonating another student at a test or an examination or allowing oneself to be impersonated.

All offences in connection with University assessments, in particular cheating or plagiarism in examinations or coursework, are serious offences and if substantiated, may lead to severe penalties. •
Plagiarism
To plagiarize is "to use another person's idea or a part of their work and pretend that it is your own". [Cambridge Dictionaries Online] The most common forms of plagiarism are: o Paraphrase (i.e., put other people's ideas into your own words) without acknowledging the source o Copy sentences or passages from the Web, or copy sentences or paragraphs from a book or an article, without citing the source o Copy part of, or the entire, term paper written by someone else o Buy a term paper written by someone else and submit it as your own •
How to Avoid Plagiarism?
To avoid plagiarism, you should always provide information of the sources used, i.e., you must document or cite the sources of information which you have consulted or used in writing your paper. Therefore, it is important that you keep records of all sources that you have consulted so that you will be able to provide proper citations later. A citation refers to the basic information about an information source (e.g., a book, an article, a media resource) sufficient for identifying the source. For example, a citation for a book usually includes the author, title, publisher, and date of publication.

The term “CityU classes and examinations” shall mean teaching activities and examinations of CityU awardbearing programmes, including Associate Degree programmes held at Telford Annex. (2) Drop off at the University Circle and go along the Covered Walk Way which will lead you to the Academic Building.
