Brief and strategy analysis The ambition of my thesis project was to challenge the traditional corporate campus by experimenting and manipulating circulation in the workplace, need for privacy and access control. Objectives: • Personalized Brief development • Research on: Management Strategies, Management Hierarchies, Workplace design, Corporate Architecture • Create an operating manual, design based on a selected architectural element, design a campus for a speculative company, critically assess the codependent roles between technology and workplace and determine the role of architecture in relation to both.

I designed the workplace based on my analysis on workplace environment. Guided by the communication needs of a workplace between departments i allocated the departments in the campus with determining factors being the need for physical interactions and privacy.

Rules of management: 1. Empowering communication and collaboration between each department 2. People must want to work there 3. Management support employees 4. Flexibility

Architectural Representation - Interiors Workplace design As the client is a security A.I. company i have followed a futuristic approach on my design. Focused on surveillance and access control, i have placed a surveillance and control room at the advantageous point of the middle of the courtyard. One sided mirror glass allows for continuous one-sided observation with the aid of state of art technology equipment furniture.

Amenities Part of the management strategy is for employees want to work in the campus. I have designed amenities housed in the campus as an example of employee benefits.

Architectural Representation - Exteriors Choosing an architectural element My goal was to give fluidity to the design, making the workers feel like vital members of a living breathing organism . By placing a connecting element in the middle of the campus I created the illusion of an open and inviting �environment for the workplace that serves both as a link between the various spaces and departments as well as a viewing platform to be enjoyed. The long span of the ramp forces those that traverse it to interact with each other while enjoying the promenade before reaching their destination of a more focused on work space. The organic shape of the campus and the strong imposing entrance to the court gives the impression to the visitor that once they cross the threshold they enter a world separated from the rest .

Rendered Section Section cut through key points of the campus to show the interior spaces of inhabited offices and the communal restaurant, as well as the use of the court and the ramp connecting the different departments, as well as suggested materials used.

Sustainability plan and location Based on my research I have decided on a sustainability plan as follows: • recycle materials found on site upon excavation either for the construction of the building or for use in production • use of locally found timber where needed • relocation and reuse of plants on site on the green roofs designed on the building use of recycled steel for the metal structure of the facade • natural ventilation/natural lighting • renewable energy sourced from photovoltaic films that can be applied on the facade of the building • underground parking • use of shuttle to/from local train stations and the nearby airport to discourage car exhaust fumes • walk paths and bicycle routes provided • uninterrupted views • plant orchard trees for shade and engage in nature

Lidlington is a village near Milton Keynes. The location is ideal for technology companies that focus on R&D, away from the prying eyes of intruders. The site placement is ideal for views the employees can enjoy. It is also near the Windsurfing Club for Brogborough Lake. The area is welcoming regeneration so the construction of the campus as well as its location near the windsurfing club is a step to the future Milton Keynes is heading for.

MUZA - AUBERGE D’ITALIE Project introduction In this project the objective was to create an addition to the existing building with respect to the historical importance of the existing architecture and on a low budget.

Proposed additions for the new National Museum of Fine Arts A new entrance (ramp/stairs) to the museum All public spaces and galleries to be designated and considered within the existing building Augment circulation/access as required An additional floor to the building to house Contemporary Art A “mask”, i.e. a volume/skin/projection surface to the flank wall A structure or structures (masts, poles, grafts or similar) to house projectors, lighting etc.

Urban design - A contemporary approach

For the skin to cover the bland wall i designed a metal gridshell that covers it and partially engulfs the corner of the existing building. The skin of the gridshell is composed of ETFE modules that fit in the gaps of the grid. The reason for that is to allow partially the light in so that the exhibition space of the roof of the existing is naturally lit. The modules allow natural ventilation so the air inside is continuously renewed. The modules can be custom made to have different levels of transparency so the surface can be used for light mapping or other kinds of projections.

interiors For the interior exhibition space I followed a minimalistic futuristic approach with rich materials that do not distract the eye from the exhibits but instead enhance and compliment the pieces of art to be housed inside.

Exteriors For the exterior of the new museum i aimed to design a dramatic entrance that would be impressive and inviting for people. Valletta is a city rich in history and art so my goal was to create a venue that people would want to visit as well as house interesting modern exhibitions.


repĂŞchage - wild card project Industrial design

As a wild card project i wanted to focus and research further the organic shape design. Based on the development of the MUZA project I experimented further on the architectural piece i designed for the entrance to push the limits further on the industrial design. Inspired and affected by the materiality and structural process of the complicated design I focused on the aesthetic outcome of a more accented eccentricity to test the limits of functionality in curves.

Valletta 2018 Infrastructure Project Is-Suq tal-Belt - The Covered Market

Urban design - Regeneration plan Is-Suq tal-Belt is an old market in the heart of Valletta in Malta. In this project the task was to design a cultural event space to replace the roof of the existing 19th century cast and wrought iron structure. Requirements: • Respect the historical character of the site and Valletta’s credentials as a World Heritage Site and future European Capital of Culture. • Replace the roof with a self supported inhabitable structure • New lightweight structure mast be adaptable to a variety of events related to the Valletta 2018 programme, serve as a viewing terrace and accommodate a column-free event space min.125 m2 • Augment circulation system • Retain the Grade 1 Scheduled building masonry walls and 19th century iron structure

The proposal My proposed regeneration plan is a public library placed on the top floor of the existing building, replacing the existing roof but keeping the existing iron structure. The library platform is a self supported space that is held up by the added tri-column in the heart of the atrium of market .

The new roof also serves as a viewing platform and an outdoors cafeteria. It is accessible by the added elevator and the wooden staircase that wraps around it. The walls of the staircase are made of wood and have shelves to hold the books as well as small openings that let just enough light in to create a secluded atmosphere. The glass case separates the staircase from the rest of the market for added privacy.
