- Spirituality of Space and Human’s Feelings -
EDUCATION
- MANIFESTO -
One of the biggest problems of modern life is the abstraction of human existence by a consumerist ontology which objectifies the individual. Virtual life and intruding technologies have replaced the traditional triad relationship between human-human, human-nature, and human-objects. Therefore, we need a nurturing architecture that enhances our spirit through sensual temperament and spatial affect. To recover its identity, this architecture must be constructed nude as newborns humans, as nature provide us. This architecture must transform mankind from the inside out, not outside in. This architecture must be a reflection of the people’s will at a given time, truthfully translated into physical forms. The relevance of its form relies not in its appearance but in its ability to symbolize humanity’s history.

EXPERIENCE
This architecture is concrete, experienced through our feelings in contact with corporeal objects. This architecture is thus a rational replication of nature’s behaviors and patterns, meticulously adopted inpractice. As an object, this architecture establishes a silent communication to its occupants through humanly proportioned forms. As designers, we are responsible for finding an equilibrium between the techniques of spatial production and potential atmospheres, which are the meaning and feelings that we want to transmit to the occupants through the space. Finally, this architecture, as well as humans, has values to respect in order to promote a better environment, such us the importance of place, the celebration of human history, the reflection and conservation of nature, the considered use of tectonics, and the reflexive use of technology. Beauty comes not from form but from an affectual experience shared throughout a space which elevates people’s mind toa state of awareness called “spirituality”. Therefore, architecture is meaningful when it produces spiritual experiences that not only enhance but also challenge our existence

TARGET MARKET
THE SITE
THE DESIGN
The current project is an integrated hub that comprises research, exhibion space and accommodaons. As a well ranked research campus, the chosen target market is vising scholars and researchers at the University of Illinois, more specifically in the Colleges of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES).
The selected site is located in the Energy Farm, in Urbana, IL. In this locaon, interdisciplinary research within sustainability, energy and environmental needs is developed in the following areas: solar climate soluons, energy transions, building sustainable infrastructure, water and land stewardship, nature secure and sustainable agriculture.
The design aims to harmonize and integrate with the agricultural nature of the surroundings, therefore, the building’s form alludes to the tradional agricultural structures of the Midwest from which the form originates (greenhouses, farmhouses, barn-like structures).

STRIPS - ORGANIZATIONAL PRINCIPLE This is why we proposed to organize the house in bands of activity. The first band is the service area made by a kitchen, laundry, bathrooms and changing rooms. This band was placed on one side of the house that was next to the neighbor.
SCHEME - 3 STRIPS service
circulation The second band is the circulation that connects social areas with rooms and services and gets sunlight in the building. Finally, the third band is shaped by rooms and living room. Just this area has windows opened to the park in front of the house.
