77.000 sq m of Denmark become UN territory On 7 December, the UN assumes control of a chunk of Denmark. For 12 days, 77,000 square metres of Bella Centre's premises in Copenhagen will cease to be Danish - instead they will be the world's. The climate summit is the biggest event of its kind by far to be held in Denmark, both politically and practically. When Bella Center hands over the keys to the UN on Friday 4 December, it will be the culmination of several years of planning and eight weeks of hectic build-up. "Over the past few weeks, we have had more than 400 tradesmen involved in building several hundred offices and meeting rooms, laying 900 km of cable for computers and TV installations, preparing 5,500 workplaces, renting 15,000 extra chairs, building 14,000 square metres of new pavilions etc...." - Planning started 2 years ago. Build-up for COP 15 takes place over 8 weeks - 1,000 km of extra cable are being laid for computers and TV stations - 75 IT support staff will be on duty to look after the network during COP15 - 5,500 computer workstations will be set up - In addition, 9,300 extra electrical sockets will be installed for recharging laptops and mobile phones - So far, 60 large TV transmission trucks have booked space and more than 2.000 reporters have been accredited. Who, What, Where........

- TDC and Telenor are extending coverage so that 25,000 simultaneous calls can take place in Bella Center - An extra 14,935 chairs, 3,727 tables and 111 sofas have been ordered - Plus 50,000 sq m of carpet (the equivalent of more than seven football pitches) - In addition to Bella Center's 263 toilets, 93 extra are being installed - COP15 has grown beyond Bella Center's 63,000 sq m of conference space. Therefore, new pavilions are being erected covering 14,000 sq m. All in all this corresponds to 11 football pitches - About 100 meeting rooms are being established for which 2,500 meetings have been booked - The cloakroom will have space for 8,000 coats and jackets - 23 airport security scanners will be able to screen 6,000 people an hour - In the past two years, Bella Center has had 26-28 employees working full-time on preparing COP15 in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, the police and the UN - In the weeks preceding the summit, the number of Bella Center COP15 employees will grow from about 100 up to 1.100 - In the kitchens, 80-100 chefs will wield pots and pans making food for about 200,000 servings - Bella Center's kitchens will primarily be serving chicken, lamb and vegetables which can be eaten by all nationalities with a wide range of faiths. As Scandinavia's leading trade fair, exhibition and convention organiser, it is Bella Center's policy to consider the environment in all activities. Our policy is to use energy, water and raw materials as efficiently as possible. In building up exhibitions, trade fairs and conventions, we place considerable focus on safety and the environment. It was Bella Centers first aim to reduce its CO2 emissions by 20 per cent from 2007 to 2009 and 25 percent by the end of 2015. Bella Center A/S is Scandinavia's leading trade fair and congress centre with annual revenue in excess of DKK 430 million, and serves as a venue for everything from trade fairs for fashion, food, cars, boats and holidays to parties and large events such as the MTV awards and Danish and international congresses such as the UN climate change conference COP15 and the IOC Session and Olympic Congress.
