Karin Akesson

All Kinds Of New

Moose Allain

Born in Sweden 1978, Karin studied Illustration at Brighton University from 1998 to 2001. She also obtained MA in Communication Art & Design at the Royal College of Art. Karin now happily lives and works in London as a freelance illustrator, exhibiting her work though-out the UK and creating designs for a huge variety of clients from various disciplines, allowing her to be experimental and progressive in her creativity!

All Kinds of New is a Londonbased blogger, illustrator and talent scout for all things satisfying and exciting to the eye… With knowledge and history in design dating back to the early 90’s. By day an industry creative, by night a seeker of design eye candy.

Moose has enjoyed a wide variety of jobs, from turfing a ha-ha for the National Trust to creating cartoons for Alton Tower’s “Kid’s Club” magazine. He has lived in London for many years and worked as an architect specialising in urban regeneration, consultation and participatory design projects and even contributed to the UK’s successful Olympic bid. In 2006 he and his wife moved to Devon to bring up their young boys by the sea. He gave up his full time architecture career to concentrate on art. He now has pieces in private collections all over the world. Moose fills his playful drawings with tiny narrative incidents, fine details, words and phrases along with a cast of curious characters. His work is about positivism, a celebration of humanity.

Ben Allen

Deborah Azzopardi

Richard Barrett

Working in a multitude of media and materials, Ben Allen’s influences include comic book art, skateboard culture, surfing, travel, Japanese graphics, the Mexican festival “Dia de la Muerte”, typography, nature and the human condition. His paintings and prints are in private collections worldwide. He has worked with Levis, Virgin, Channel 5, The Hoxton Hotel and has exhibited his mixed content paintings in exclusive venues and galleries internationally as well as selling to celebrities.

Deborah Azzopardi’s provocatively flirtatious paintings have such universal appeal. Her vibrant palette of heightened colours, which are predominantly primary and contained by outlines reference her earlier work for The Walt Disney Company. While her colours serve as the initial bait to gain the viewer’s attention, it is her subject matter that hooks you and keeps you captivated. The often ambiguous compositions allow for individual interpretation, letting the viewer read as much or as little as they like into each painting.

“There’s a little bit of someone you know in every animal you meet”. This has become the philosophy behind Richard’s observations of our furry and feathered friends. The belief really came into being when the artist met a special cat. “I was totally convinced that this cat was the reincarnation of my Aunty Joan... except that my Aunty is still very much alive”. Which leads to the only logical conclusion that all creatures are in-fact little people in fur coats!

Sarah Beetson

Lara Bowen

Nick Boyce

Sarah graduated in 2002 from Falmouth College of Arts, Cornwall UK, and won the Pentland Prize for Fine Art that same year. She spent the next 4 years in London working in fashion, illustration and design in-house at Yellowdoor, Pop and The Face magazines and completed a 7 month print design internship at Stella McCartney. Since then, she has built a career as a freelance artist and illustrator, exhibiting work in London, Paris, Portland, New York and Melbourne; she is now based in Australia.

Born in Brighton in 1970, Lara studied art at Hastings College and Oxford Brookes University. Since graduating she has worked as an art teacher, writer, illustrator and gallerist but more recently Lara has concentrated on her own artistic practice turning her attention to formal gardens and allotments, and landscapes. Lara previously worked in the medium of stained glass and aims to bring similar elements to her paintings. Working in oils she uses a mixture of brush and palette knife to build layers of colour and texture. Lara finds inspiration in a variety of places, from textiles, floral illustrations, the Impressionist and old masters’ still life paintings, to ceramic and glass design and even Dulux colour charts. Lara now lives in London with her partner, baby boy and long-suffering cat.

Nick is an art school dropout with a passion for fusing art and technology. In 2004 the Adelaide Fringe selected his programmaticallygenerated image for their festival poster and awarded him a flight to Europe. Maria Dahlgren

Jeremy Dickinson

Christopher Farrell

Maria Holmer Dahlgren is a recognised designer of products. The philosophy to her work has always been that beautiful art is all around us if we only open our eyes to it and this has led her to create imagery which has appeared on luxurious hand tufted carpets to trays and souvenirs. Born in Helsingborg, Maria first became recognised for her work with stationery company Ordning & Reda of which she was cofounder. Since then she has had the pleasure of designing for the stylish hotel “Rival” in Stockholm, which is owned by ABBA’s Benny Andersson. Her work at this exhibition celebrates the colour and sounds when visiting London.

Born in Halifax, Yorkshire in 1963, Jeremy Dickinson studied Fine Art at Goldsmith’s College, London, graduating in 1986. He has exhibited widely since then, with one-person and group exhibitions in the USA, Europe and Japan. In 2004, a ten-year survey exhibition of his paintings was shown at Horsens Kunstmuseum in Denmark, and a comprehensive catalogue was published to coincide with the exhibition. Toy cars have been the principal subject of his paintings since the mid 1990’s. Earlier works depicted toy buses, which he had kept since childhood. All show much evidence of past play with chips, dents, rust and missing tyres. The backgrounds are always abstracted, so the vehicles appear stacked in imaginary junkyards or lined up in pretend car parks. Jeremy Dickinson lives and works in London.

Born in London in 1971, Christopher Farrell graduated from De Montfort University, Leicester in 1993 with a first class Honours degree in Visual Arts, then gained a Post-Graduate Degree at the Royal Academy School of Art, London. Influenced by the city and everything about it, he is fascinated by the diversity of the contemporary and traditional architecture in London and it has become an ongoing theme in his paintings and digital work.

Jane Foster

Gregoire Ganter

Jess & George

Jane Foster is a Brighton based artist who enjoys screen-printing and making items from vintage fabrics. She is strongly influenced by Scandinavian design from the 50’s and 60’s and has a huge collection of fabrics and ceramics from these periods. Jane loves bold, simple, happy designs, which appeal to children and adults alike.

French-born and native New Yorker from the age of 10, Gregoire was educated in politics, economics and business management at Kenyon College and NYU Stern School of Business, finding success in treasury banking before turning to photography full time. Gregoire uses his camera to explore the diversity and forms that make the urban environment unique. His collages capture the city’s constant evolution and pulsing energy. Ganter’s collages are now printed as digital C-Prints in editions of 25.

Jess & George graduated in Fine Art from Kingston University, and joined forces in 2008 to exhibit their paper-cuts with the East End Arts Club. They have just moved into a shiny new studio and are looking forwards to creating lots more work. When not cutting paper, they enjoy making films, planting vegetables and travelling. They currently live in South London with their two cats.

Blanca Gómez

Trudy Good

Ruth Green

Blanca Gómez is a successful illustrator and graphic designer who currently lives in Madrid, Spain. After graduating in Advertising and Graphic Design in 2001 she has gone on to develop her career as a graphic designer, but she currently spends most of her time illustrating and generally getting her hands dirty. Blanca enjoys making small things with care; her website ‘cosas mínimas’ means ‘tiny things’ in Spanish. Along with art heroes such as Picasso, Calder, Sempé and Quentin Blake, simple things inspire her work, which has been described as ‘colourful,’ ‘playful’ and ‘whimsical.’

Trudy Good began her training at Winchester College of Art, but much of her development has been self-driven. She has become a well-known and loved figurative artist, whose subtle and elegant work is now much sought after. Her sensitive and evocative use of pastel and charcoal in rendering the female form appeals to a diverse audience. Trudy’s portraiture is full of common human emotion. The sheer beauty of a single line, the way the light plays on hair, the feelings conveyed by body language in an unguarded moment- these are things that inspire Trudy time and time again.

Ruth Green achieved a BA (Hons) degree in Printed Textiles and went on to gain a Masters Degree in Textile Design from the University of Central England in 1999. Upon graduation, she worked as freelance textile designer and, in 2003 she received a grant from The Arts Council of England and used the funds to develop her print-making and painting skills. Ruth is a big fan of design from the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s and she collects ceramics and glass which are often a starting point for her work – Lucienne Day, Terry Frost and Barbara Hepworth are her particular favourites. Ruth is also passionate about gardening and says that this also plays a part in her paintings. She has an allotment and is currently studying for a general certificate from the Royal Horticultural Society.

Marianne Groennow

Julene Harrison

Megan Hess

Marianne was born in the south of Sealand, Denmark. In the early 80’s she moved to Copenhagen where she was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Marianne’s meditative imagery begins in an elemental, mystical universe of natural creation and bursts into a nearly psychedelic, wildly colourful and ornamental world of simplified shapes. She achieves this through repeated gestures with spray gun and calligraphic brushes - or as in lithography by using several stones - adding color in numerous transparent layers. Her work can be found at the National Gallery of Denmark and various private and public collections. Currently she lives and works in Copenhagen with her partner Sola and mini-pincher Nor.

Julene has a First Class Honours degree in Fashion and Textiles from Manchester Metropolitan University. After graduating in 2001 she worked as a constructed textile designer for fashion in London and Italy. In late 2008 Julene began making paper cuts as one-off gifts for friends, and after starting to get numerous commissions for her designs she has since set up a website and blog madebyjulene.com to deal with the demand. A passion for the precise, a background in the design of textile patterns, and the customisable nature of her pieces have combined to make Julene’s style of paper cutting a runaway success. Julene was born on the South Coast and lives with friends in South London.

Megan Hess began a career in graphic design which transcended into art direction for some of the world’s leading advertising agencies. In 2008 Hess illustrated the New York Times number one selling book, ‘Sex and The City’. She has illustrated for some of the world’s top fashion and interior publications as well as worldwide ad campaigns. Most recently her skills have been deployed by Bloomingdales, New York, to create a signature look for the prestigious department store. Hess’s signature style can also be found on private art commissions from New York to Tokyo. Megan states her inspirations as being fashion, art, travel, Hitchcock, Hepburn, Ghetto Bling, 70’s cocktails, great coffee, fragrance and mountains and mountains of chocolate.

During the course, Kareem developed an appreciation for collage and explored a rich and diverse array of mixed media techniques. Claire Rollet left her native France in 1995 to study in London. Claire began her love affair with the city by drawing the buildings and streets around her. Her portfolio has since expanded to include cities around the world such as New York, Tokyo and Paris with her drawings depicting a fresh view of these urban landscapes. Her working process begins by drawing using a nib and Indian Ink, with the architectural idiosyncrasies of the cities then being highlighted digitally by touches of colour. Apart from a keen interest in architecture, Claire’s other inspirations include the works of the Japanese woodblock artists, her favorites being Kuniyoshi and Hiroshige.

Born in 1939, Colin Ruffell became a professional artist at the age of 26. He qualified at a top London Art College in painting, design and printmaking, and the OU in psychology and aesthetics. In the early sixties Colin was one of the first British art students to use the then revolutionary medium of artist’s acrylic paint and he has advocated its use ever since. In the nineties he spotted the potential of giclée printmaking and the internet as exhibition space. His enthusiasm led The Fine Art Trade Guild to elect him ‘Master of The Guild’ in 2008. Colin presently enjoys living and working in Brighton. His published works are found in private and corporate collections world-wide and he exhibits globally painting in many styles, from amusing childlike images, to traditional landscapes, cityscapes, or abstractions.
