比起管理 706 更倾向引导成员思考和实践新的合租模式，和社群关系 Instead of "managing", 706 prefer "guiding" the members to brain-storm and truly experiment with co-living through discussion and decision making.

#嬉皮 住了多个音乐人，后来多了媒体，艺术，摄影，建筑相关爱好者，成员们自行配置CD架 音箱 吉他架 音乐书籍。隔音的房间和遮光窗帘，下一秒变身音乐会现场 A group of Hippies (musician, photography, artist, architect, media) make use of the common living area with their personal touch, they prefer non-governance, anti-rules, wabi sabi lifestyle.

#小资 996的工作白领，追求有质量的休闲时光，适合观影和闲躺的大沙发，适合三五好友一起喝茶聚餐的大桌子。 Member who stayed in this house persued good quality of leisure time. Having good advantge of sunlight view, big sofa and large table is a must for friends spending time together.

#青旅 短住客大多数第一次过来，因此进行门面改良，让你一踏进门就得到清楚的指引，物品该归置何处。 The house hosted people for short stay (mostly traveller), the foyer was painted in dark green, match with wood flooring, a feeling of warm welcoming home.
架子破旧 常年封闭 没人使用 把门板拿掉后增加架子，提高使用率 broken & enclosed rack, lack of notice took off the front board, and add in new racks

#四合院 每个房间只有2mx2m的大小，简单的布局：单人床，桌椅，绿植，衣柜 Rooms are relatively small in typical chinese 4-courtyard layout, by 2mx2m.

after : transform into bedroom, wall curtain was up for warmer touch, main hole was sealed and covered with floor carpet.

#自由职业 越来越多创业和在家办公的成员，因此重新规划空间，腾出办公区；而卧室也从4人间改造成2人间 More and more freelancer joining the house, hence working space is needed.
previous : living room is mainly for leisure, rack for wine, table for food & beverage.

after : the sofa was relocated to clear up a working space for 4, storage cabinets were placed side by side, way easier for finding.
生 活 实 验 室 发 展 简 史 Our History and Growth (2012 - 2020)

After 3 years of running event, 706 youthspace had enlarged its capacity, more rooms (sleeping areas) for those who came from far, later on 706 start running hostel service

Soon they found out the conflict between two groups of users, hostel guest wish to have more quiet private space, but on the other hand those who just came for event, wish to have more public space and noises. So a new space was rented just for living.
From hostel service, 706 started to inplement the idea of co-living, another space was rented for those youngster that work in Beijing, and willing to try living with a community.

After some try & error, first ”lifelab" was officially calling potential "candidates", in this "lifelab", members are expected to go through house meetings, interview procedure, voting system, etc, pretty much influenced by US student COOP.
Some members are fine with the chore & responsibility,but some don't, they prefer simple living, their relationship are more like family, sharing is the key point that bonds people together, 706 are interested to see more different ways of living.

More houses was rented at the same neighbourhood, 6 lifelabs + 1 event headquarter therefore formed a community and board committee, it is no longer just about internal management, but also the link with other houses.
706 had tried stepped out from the same neighbourhood, another house was rented further down the town (about 2.5km away), to go through another new experiemnt of remote management.

And 706 faced some difficulties especially remote communication, this lifelab have to be more independent compared to others who stayed close to the headquarter, hence another house was rented next to it, intended to form another community that able to self-manage themselves.
After few months of trying, two of the lifelab were not satisfied with 706 way of managing, so they decided to ask for independence, instead of relying much on the procedure and rental method of 706.

Self-management slowly became the core value of 706 lifelab, developed from the idea of co-living, while freedom of speech and open discussion were strongly encouraged. Some members even became the investor of 706 on the following expansion, another two were established at different districts of beijing, the scale had been elevated up to city scale.
Another two lifelabs were set up, mainly for university students from different proffesion, 706 tried to push the idea of living + multidisplinary learning, incorporate dwith famous speakers, workshops, mini classroom, etc

706 reached out to other cities like Shanghai, Guangzhou, there're already crews who shout out earlier, and they eventually volunteered form a team, to run the new space independently, apart from 706 main core team, this is a great big move of community growth, but still 706 is looking at if non-profit could long sustain.
Unexpected hits of Covid19, people were restricted from moving, lead to the fall of housing market. 706@beijing could bear the extra cost without the rent income, few lifelab were forced to shut down mainly due to the financial burden.
