research center+ landscape preservation
Architecture, Urban and Landscape design studio Politecnco di Torino
Supervisors: A. Armando, E.C. Cattaneo, M. d’Ambros, P. Simeone With: Marco Moccia, Anna Gloria Moschetti The island of Pellestrina is mainly perceptible for fences that organize the island longitudinally according to two axes and prevent any crossing. These margins, which mark the boundary between public and private paradoxically hide a context of abandonment of objects and buildings, in which wild vegetation is the protagonist. The project aims to investigate how the public-private dichotomy can be articulated. Working trought heritage ecology, the landscape project proposes to preserve the rare endemic vegetation of the island and the architectural project proposes to work on the margins and on an already cemented but abandoned ground. These two aspects have led to the project of a research center with its field of experimentation, which would allow the island to be repopulated in a sustainable manner and generate both knowledge of the surrounding environment and maintenance of the territory. The landscape is tamed by a pergola, as well as the vegetation, on an ecological grid and acts as a threshold between the public space and the private space of the research center, the latter divided by a new edge with an oblique cut that breaks the orthogonal system of the island.

GREEN STRIP DORA public spaces + microclimatic devices
Architecture and Construction systems studio Politecnco di Torino
Supervisors: Nicola Russi, Andrea Levra Levron With: Anna Gloria Moschetti The project stems from an environmental and morphological analysis of Vanchiglietta: the district seems a peninsula divided by road axis, but unified as a whole by the green system. In this context we identified a quadrant with a different character, made up of residual and fragmented spaces. The purpose was to characterize this dial with the natural appearance that surrounds it, allowing the enhancement of the river and a diversification of uses. This happens through a strong action of pedestrianization and the interference of two main figures: a green strip and an urban forest. The strip arranges the disorder of the forest, becoming the cornerstone of an innovative urban and environmental system. At the same time, forestation and the design of permeable pavements become microclimatic devices that improve the quality of the public space, protected from the main road by a tree-lined filter, and decrease the “heat island” effect. The relationship between public and private space is studied through the reuse and hypothesis of new uses of the empty ground floors of the buildings on pilotis that characterize the area.

DE-LAYERING PALLADIUM exhibition + interior design
Interior Design studio Politecnco di Torino
Supervisor: Pier Federico Mauro Caliari With: Francesco Metafune, Anna Gloria Moschetti Published in: www.caliari.academy.com The studio required to design an exhibition on Palladium’s treatise on Architecture through the interpretation of a modern architect: Carlo Scarpa. The goal was to design the exhibition in its collection and its arrangement through the design of each single object and its exhibitor in the Basilica Palladiana, an iconic space for the exhibition itself. In our project we decided to use “de-layering” as a method to develop the exhibition. The layering process starts from Palladio’s own books, as they can be seen as a simple object that acts as a support to what is written inside, or they can be seen content of informations. The support and content of the treatise can be both analyzed and divided, the first in layout and representation aspects of the drawing, the second in the architectural elements and typologies aspects. We proposed a transversal reading of the 4 books in which the treatise consist of. ASSONOMETRIA

CO-HABITER LA VILLETTE co-housing + building design
Architecture and Technology studio Politecnco di Torino
Supervisor: Daniele Campobenedetto, Roberto Giordano With: Simona Belluscio, Ahmed Mansouri, Anna Gloria Moschetti The project experiments a modular way of living through elements conceived as both residential and distributive, through an internal distribution in height that distinguishes spaces with different functions. Modularity then becomes structure through an element whose two long sides have a load-bearing function, which allows the lot to be distributed according to a constant, regular and systematic structure. The same module, articulated on several levels, defines the common distribution, within which the landing spaces can also be used as places to stay. The façade envelope is made of a patchwork of sheets for the housing units, while the concrete beam is used for the common areas. The private spaces are denounced on the façade, while the beam denies the relationship between common and external spaces, defining a community developed in the co-housing itself: physical place of relationship and sharing.

DESIGNING IN RAREFACTION operational strategies for shrinking territories
Master thesis in Urbanism and Territorial Development Politecnco di Torino
Supervisors: Francesca Frassoldati (PoliTo), Gabriele Pasqui (PoliMi) With: Anna Gloria Moschetti Published in: www.webthesis.biblio.polito.it The project aimes at analysing the housing distress generated by territorial inequities, that worsen the environmental risks yet caused by climate change. It attempts to study in shrinking territories the relationships between underemployed built capital and its environmental surrounding, as woods and rivers, in order to conceive operative strategies able to consider the activation of new circular processes starting from the available resources. The built capital and the natural one are overlapped throughout re-use strategies as well as controlled ageing strategies. The emerging system aspire on one hand to generate employment, on the other hand to have a repercussion on the maintenance of the territory, in the possibility of recover ecosystem services. The innovative forms of job find a primary input in the woods and a physical place in the underemployed built capital. The whole project considers who can act in this process and is shaped up to be read as an handbook for actors and investors.

The resilience of the territory can be increased by building networks around local production hubs, sustainable energy production, production of knowledge about the territory.
The activation of a circular economy can allow connections between defense-inhabited centers-territory.
Forms of associative management of agrosilvopastoral land allow economies of scale and recovery of buildings for collective use.

s12
Areas at risk (e.g. river flooding strips) can be rethought by encouraging the transfer of volumetries on land already built, but underused.
The outdated buildings from a functional point of view, that no longer meet current needs, can be divided in more spaces to host new tenants
The redevelopment of existing obsolete buildings can be encouraged by linking to the forest supply chain

The abandoned and ruderized buildings that create danger for the context are demolished and the soils restored.
According to the condition of the building it can be reused in a minimal way in order to make the abandoned artifact infrastructure, adaptable support for temporary uses or different future scenarios
The building can become “urbanized material” and be reused in a circular perspective by distinguishing the various “layers”.

SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP NFF workshop
Norman Foster Foundation Sustainability Workshop 2021 Madrid, October 2021
Tutors: Norman Foster, Vishaan Chakrabarti, Jan Boelen, Marcos Cruz, Jacqueline Glass, Guillaume Habert, Mina Hasman, Kieren Jones, Christoph Lindner, Gil Penalosa More info: www.vimeo.com; www.normanfosterfoundation.org
The aim of the workshop was to address the issue of sustainability in its multiplicity, from material, molecular, architectural, urban aspects, to aspects of systems and communities. We had five days to work collecting input from numerous tutors and developing a sustainability constitution that could tell what it means to think and design in a sustainable way. The constitution took shape when we defined its principles and according to these we collected 10 projects in the pilot of a website, measuring their impact in terms of sustainability. The designed website is able to collect projects at every scale and in every place, relating the projects to each other according to the sustainable principles they stick to, and by collecting many, it can also become a platform for spreading a wider culture on sustainability. The website page is currently under development.

INCOMPIUTO SICILIANO workshop
Unfinished swimming pool: alternative Re-Use proposal Matera, July 2019
Tutors: Alterazioni Video, Fosbury Architecture, Failed Architecture, Urbz
In Matera we worked on the unfinished area of the Serra Rifusa district. The project dates back to 1990 and is spread over 3 areas abandoned for almost 30 years. After surveys we talked with the inhabitants and it emerged that most of them did not know the existence of this space. Through a radical bottom-up approach, using a philosophy linked to minimal intervention and flexibility of uses, we decided to reactivate only one area with an incisive mark on the urban landscape, leading people to know the spaces that surround their daily lives and recognizing the potential of the entire unfinished complex for future uses. We designed an installation with a duzzle motif that run throughout the complex, then the park was opened organizing an event to show the installation and illustrate to the inhabitants the potential of space, starting a sustainable process.
