Just looking at this bag is enough to put you in a good mood and, naturally, it feels just as good to wear. Ticking off three cool trends – cork fabric, fringed tassels and the cross body bag – this brilliant bag is guaranteed to liven up your outfit. What’s more, the detachable strap converts it from colourful daytime carry-all to girls-night-out clutch. Cork fabric is easy to work with, so beginners will find this project simple. It’s sturdier than cotton, doesn’t fray and is hardwearing enough to survive even the liveliest of summer festivals. 01 Using the templates on page 149, cut a gusset piece, bag front and a bag back from the cork fabric. Mark the bag flap
line and tab placements onto the right side (RS) of the bag back using tailor’s chalk and the template as a guide. Cut two 3 x 6cm (1 x 23/8") rectangles from the remaining cork fabric. 02 Fold the bag back piece along the marked bag flap line with wrong sides (WS) together. Slide one of the D rings onto a fabric rectangle, positioning the straight edge on the wrong side (WS) of the fabric. Fold the fabric in half along the length with WS facing and pin the tab in place on the bag back. 03 Repeat Step 2 with the second rectangle, then sew them both in place with a small rectangle at the base of the tab, as shown. 04 With WS facing and aligning the long raw edges, pin the
gusset to the bag back, starting at the flap line, then working around the base and up the other side. Sew using a 0.5cm ( ") seam allowance. 05 Repeat Step 4, this time pinning and sewing the other long edge of the gusset to the front of the bag. 06 To make the strap, cut a 3 x 126cm (1 x 51") length of cork fabric. Pin to the coral faux leather with WS facing, leaving 2cm ( ") of faux leather overlapping at either end. Sew along both long edges using a 0.5cm ( ") seam allowance. 07 Use the pinking shears to trim away the excess seam allowance on either side, being careful not to cut into the seam. Round off both ends of the faux leather.

If you love craft, you’ll know all about trying to find storage for your ever-expanding stash. So what better way to combine the two than with these gorgeous baskets designed with contrasting prints and rolled cuffs. The little-and-large duo look great anywhere and are reversible, while a bit of clever folding gives them a square-based structure, keeping them neat and roomy. Pack yours with whatever you like from toiletries or scarves. FYI: the smaller basket is just the right size for stashing whatever craft project you’ve left languishing beside the sofa…
Large basket 01 Press both fabrics before starting. Mark out a 95 x 59cm (373/8 x 23 ") rectangle on both Fabrics A and B, then cut them out with a 1cm (3/8") seam allowance. If the fabric print patterns are directional, bear in mind the shorter measurement will be the height of the baskets. 02 Using the fabric as a template, cut a piece of iron-on interfacing. Position the interfacing rectangle with the shiny side facing, then place the Fabric B rectangle on top of the interfacing, right side (RS) up and aligning the edges. Press to seal the two layers together.
03 Next, fold the fabric and interfacing piece in half along the length, with the fabric sides together and aligning the short edges. Position the folded edge to the left, then pin the opposite edge and the bottom edge, leaving the top edge open. Repeat this step with the Fabric A rectangle, RS together. Sew the pinned edges using a 1cm (3/8") seam allowance. 04 To create the base of the bucket, flatten out one of the corners of the Fabric A piece, aligning the seams to create a point. The side seam should be running in a straight line away from you.

A smile-shaped necklace in sunshine yellow definitely has the power to turn a frown or two upside down. You’ll only need a little bit of fabric for this project, so scrap happiness is guaranteed. Dig out those prized prints from your stash and let them shine, keeping it fresh with just one fabric, or playing mix and match to highlight the twists. 01 Press the fabric and place it wrong side (WS) facing. Find the bias by folding the fabric diagonally from the top corner with the left hand edge
meeting the top edge. Mark where the fold is at the bottom, then open it out and join that point to the top left corner. 02 Measure and mark three 25 x 5cm (97/8 x 2") strips on the bias. Cut them out with the rotary cutter. 03 Press the three fabric strips, stretching each one as you go to create a smooth finish. 04 Pin a strip around the cord with right sides (RS) together, aligning the long edges and leaving 25cm (97/8") of the cord end uncovered. 05 Using an adjustable zipper foot, make sure the needle
